SPARTA -- Kaye Jackson, 49, died at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She was born Feb. 6, 1953, in Belleville, to Earl Thompson and Helen Barttelbort. She married Steve Jackson on Aug. 30, 1980, in Belleville. She was a reading specialist teacher for Unit District 140. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sparta. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the SIU Alumni Association in Edwardsville, the National Reading Recovery Association and the National Reading Association. She is survived by her husband, Steve Jackson of Sparta; one daughter, Stephanie Kay Jackson, at home; one son, Scott Allen Jackson, at home; and two brothers, Michael G. Thompson of Aviston and Don Thompson of Jefferson City, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sparta, with Pastors Karen Knodt and Ray Morton officiating. Burial will be in Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, and from 7:30 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Kaye Jackson Reading Recovery Memorial Fund or the donor's choice. McDaniel Funeral Home in Sparta is in charge of arrangements.
David E. Workman
CARTERVILLE -- David E. Workman, 43, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Riggins- Pillatsch Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stephen Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Willowrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. He was born July 3, 1959, in Clarksburg, W. V., to Ernest F. and Geneva Workman. David is survived by his family, Amber L. Howerton and her children, Cattie and Sydney, of Carterville; mother, Workman of Stonewood, W. V. ; two sisters, Brenda McCourt of Wallace, W. V., and Shirley Skidmore of Farmington, W. V. ; Ernest Workman of Richmond, Va. ; grandmother, Juanita Brooks of Hampton, Ky. ; extended family, John and Sarah Geiselman of Carterville, Kelly, David, Dan, Nick, and Reagan Conklin of Salem and Sarah Beth, Aaron, Cole, and Camille Sizemore of Carterville. David was a self-employed auto mechanic. He loved working with cars, going four wheeling, and fishing with his family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to David's family.

GOREVILLE -- Reavis J. Palmer, 80, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Fountains Nursing Home in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Blue Funeral Home, 812 S. Broadway, with Reverend Ron Ferguson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Busby Cemetery in Goreville. Mrs. Palmer was born on June 2, 1922, in Chicago, to Robert C. and Bessie B. (Burke) Johnson. She married William George Palmer in 1960, in Corinth, Mississippi and he survives. Survivors also include son, David and Tiffiney Palmer of Goreville; step-son, George Raymond and Loraine Palmer of Humboldt, Tenn. ; son, Jim Schram; and son, Danny Kline; grandchildren, Julie Tripp, Stacey Coonce, Jason, Josh, and Bobbi Jo Kline, and Scott, Wendy and Cindy Palmer; six great grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Johnson of Carson City, Nev. Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker and attended Goreville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Thelma Elizabeth Conner
CHESTER -- Thelma Elizabeth Conner, 91, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at her daughter's home in Chester. She was born July 22, 1911, in Franklin County, the daughter of Quincy and Laura (Hall) Drummond. She married Vernon Conner on Nov. 5, 1927, and he preceded her in death on July 8, 1997. Mrs. Conner was a member of the Rescue Free Will Baptist Church in Whittington. She is survived by one daughter, Betty Lou Bowlin of Chester; two sons, Del Lavern Conner of Midland, Texas, and Jimmy Lee Conner of Green ville, Texas; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton, with Brother David Shores officiating. Friends attending the service are requested to go directly to the cemetery on Thursday. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc., and will be accepted at the cemetery the day of the service, or at the funeral home at any time. Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton is in charge of arrangements.

HERRIN -- Myranda K. Hartman, infant, of New Albany, Ind., died on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Ind. Myranda was born on Dec. 8, 2002, to Jeremy E. and Jessie K. Price Hartman. They survive. Besides her parents, survivors include two sisters, Tiffany Hartman and Alexis Hartman, both of New Albany, Ind. ; grandmother, Beverly Warren of New Albany, Ind., grandfather, Frank Spond of New Albany, Ind., grandfather, Jerry Hartman of Fairfield, Ind., grandmother, Melodie Hartman of Hurst, grandfather Jesse Price of Hurst and grandfather, Kevin Payne of Hurst; great-grandparents Vin and Shelby Grover of Eddyville, Ky. ; great-grandfather Paul Price of Energy and great-grandmother Pat McKinney of Fairfield. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at Herrin City Cemetery. Rev. Frank Price will officiate. Friends and family are to gather at the cemetery prior to the service. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.

STONEFORT -- Roy H. Brown, 93, died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, in Carrier Mills Nursing Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Walnut Grove Baptist Church in New Burnside, with the Rev. Gordon Smith officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, at the church. He was a maintainance foreman at University of Illinois and a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. He was born Oct. 28, 1909, and he married Gertrude Cooper, Edith Gay, and Finnie Taylor. The all preced him in death. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dean Cramer of Festus, Mo. ; a son, David Brown of Creal Springs; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wives; a brother; and a daughter-in-law, Maudetta Brown, on Nov. 23, 2002.

Bob Dickerson officiating. He was superintendent of Christopher Elementary School and a member of First Baptist Church. He was born Aug. 8, 1936, in Qulin, Mo., to Garland Johnson and Izora Boswell. He is survived by children, Lisa and Kevin Green wood of Mulkeytown and Glenda and Keith Medley of Christopher; siblings, Delaine Johnson of Little Rock, Ark., Nelda McComb of Piggott, Ark., and Janie Lack of Wisconsin; and four grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.
