Billy Story
OLIVE BRANCH -- Billy D. Story, 48, of Olive Branch, died at 11:34 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003, at St. Frances Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born July 15, 1955, in Anna, the son of Billy Dean and Shirley (Beasley) Story. He married Kimberly Arthur on June 29, 1974, and she survives. Mr. Story was the owner and operator of Story Construction. He was a member of the Cairo Lodge 237 AF and AM, International Order of Operating Engineers Local 318 and the Alexander Pulaski County Sportsman Club. He is survived by his wife Kimberly of Olive Branch; one son, Michael (Tera) Story of Olive Branch; four Grandchildren, Raelyn, Melton, Jenna, and Billy Dene Story all of Olive Branch; two brothers, Mark Story of Cairo, and Steve Story of Wickliff, Ky; one half sister, Deana Story of Thebes; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Earnest Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Olive Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with Masonic service being conducted by the Cairo Lodge 237 AF and AM at 7:30 p.m.
Mavis L. Wright
WEST FRANKFORT -- Mavis L. Wright, 86, died at 12:05 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003, in the Frankfort Care Center in West Frankfort. She was born March 16, 1917, in Paragould, Ark., to Herman and L. Merle (Copher) Flota. She was married to Wayne R. Wright on Dec. 23, 1937, in Arkansas and he preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1991. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles G. and Linnette Wright of West Frankfort and James Bradford Wright of Washington, D. C. ; six grandchildren, Charles G. Wright Jr., Deborah Woolard, Arnold Wright, James Wright, John Wright and Shawn Wright; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Fann of Du Quoin; and a brother, Therman Flota of Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Wayne. She was a member of the Orient Church of ChriSt. Mrs. Wright was very active in various clubs and organizations. She was a girl scout leader from 1946 to 1966, and a member of the West Frankfort Woman's Club, where she served as president in 1951 and 1968. She was the founder and the first president of the Frankfort Area Historical Society. In 1971 she was West Frankfort's citizen of the year. She was a member of the Illinois Historical Society and was vice president in 1976. In 1981 she was awarded the title "Kentucky Colonel" by the governor of Kentucky. In 1983 she was Southern Illinois Woman of the Year, and in 1986 was awarded "Mother of the Year" for the State of Illinois. Services for Mavis Wright will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003 in Parker-Reedy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ed Pool officiating. Burial will be in the Denning Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Frankfort Area Historical Society.

MARION -- Adeline Pledger Fischer, 94, of Marion, died at 4:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday Aug. 3, 2003, at the Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with the Rev. Larry Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 2, 2003, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Herrin Senior Citizens Center. Adeline was born on May 3, 1909, in Johnston City, the daughter of Sam and Ada (Hendrickson) Allen. She married Oscar Pledger in 1926, who preceded her in death in 1958. She later married Ed Fischer in 1968, who preceded her in death in 1973. Adeline was retired from the State of Illinois. She was a member of the Herrin Senior Citizens and a member of the Herrin Eagles Auxiliary. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Johnston City. She is survived by one daughter, Louise Valco of Marion; one grandson, Mike Valco of Marion; two granddaughters, Teresa Valco of California, and Nadine Auton Boyd of Washington; one brother, John Allen of St. Louis; one sister, Esther Hart of Mount Vernon; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Genevieve Campbell; one son, Lawrence Pledger; one brother and five sisters.

MURPHYSBORO -- Mildred Lucille Riley, 80, died at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003, in Rehab and Care Center in Murphysboro. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, in Hatcher and Sadler Funeral Home in Glascow, Ky., with the Rev. Dean Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Hiseville Cemetery in Hiseville, Ky. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today in Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava and from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Hatcher and Sadler Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Research. She was born Tuesday, Jan. 9, 1923, in Parma, Mo., to George Washington and Hettie Mae Reames Adams. She married William Franklin Riley Jan. 21, 1939, in Charleston, Mo. He passed away March 12, 1969. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecost faith. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Cheryl Riley of Campbell Hill, Frank and Di Riley of Murphysboro, and Sam and Jan Riley of Anna; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Wayne Nemitz of Wisconsin Dells, Wis., Nellie and Jim Engelhardt of Pinckneyville, and Ellen Riley and Dallas Patterson of Anacortes, Wash. ; 21 grandchildren, Pam Maloof, Melanie Denny, Cheryl Vessels, Debbie Wray, Michael Riley, Bonnie McPherson, Frankie Hamlin, Milton Hamlin, Pat Collins, Cassy Lee, Jesse Riley, Abe Nemitz, Heather Nemitz, Zach Nemitz, Cathy Troue, Patrick Riley, Heath Riley, Nick Riley, Christine Miller, Alan Engelhardt and Talitha Engelhardt; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Cletis and Norma Adams of Makanda, one sister, Juanita Stephens of Cambria; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Adams of Cobden and Barbara Heern of Makanda. She was preceded in death by her parents, three stepdaughters, Pearl Riley, Bessie Riley and Maggie Hamlin, one stepson, Jim Riley, three brothers and three sisters.
