Randy Schaubert
GOREVILLE -- Randy C. Schaubert, 41, of Goreville, died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003, at his home with his family. Randy was born on Aug. 12, 1961, in Marion to Pola and Phyllis (Pentecost) Schaubert. He married Teri Turner on June 24, 1995, in Gatlinburg, Tenn. She survives of Goreville. Mr. Schaubert was a corrections officer at the United States Penitentiary in Marion. He was a member of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and enjoyed weightlifting. He was a member of the Marion Third Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Teri Schaubert of Goreville; mother, Phyllis Schaubert of Marion; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Jerry Almaroad of Marion and three nephews and their wives, Jeremy and Amber Ollis, Ryan and Misty Ollis and Quentin Shewcraft. He was preceded in death by his father. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Third Baptist Church in Marion, with the Rev. Jerry Ford and the Rev. Kenneth Blumenstock officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at both Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home and at the church.

MOUNDS -- Sandra Sawyer, 36, died at 3:35 a.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003, at home. Services will be announced later by Massie Funeral Home in Cairo.
Gary Sexton
CHESTER -- Gary Everett Sexton, 63, of Chester, formerly of Herrin, went to be with his Lord at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003. Gary was born on Jan. 25, 1940, in Herrin, to William Howard and Eva (Stephens) Sexton. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp. Mr. Sexton married his former wife, Linda (Verga) Gray on July 23, 1976, in Marion. She survives of Chester. Gary was of Protestant faith and a member of the Chester Eagles Aire 3252. Survivors include, former wife, Linda Gray of Chester; daughter, Jeanne Kirby of Topac, Ariz. ; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Richard Niesus of Centerville, Mass. ; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Mary Sexton of Topac, Ariz. ; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Chris Sexton of Zeigler; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Kenny Cooper of Herrin; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Doyle Conley of Charleston, sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Don Gaddis of Herrin; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Jennetta Sexton of Baldwin Park, Calif. ; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Imogene Sexton of Herrin and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Don and Billy Sexton and three sisters, Betty Farris, Evelyn Nation and Mildred Hale. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Herrin City Cemetery. The Rev. David Hale will officiate. Interment will follow at the cemetery. Military Rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin VFW and American Legion Posts. Memorial donations are suggested to the Williamson County Child Advocacy Center or to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the cemetery or at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
Donna Gray
ENERGY -- Donna Gray, 59, of Energy, formerly of Carbondale, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 26, 2003, in her residence. Donna was born October 21, 1943 in West Frankfort to Ralph and Myrtle (Odle) Gray. She is survived by her mother, Myrtle Gray of Energy; one son, Chris Nudd of Austin, Texas; one sister, Deborah Berry of Creal Springs; and three brothers and two sisters-in law, Ralph Gray Jr. of Paducah, Ky., Tom and Pam Gray of Lindenhurst and Tim and Maureen Gray of Tulsa, Okla. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sharon Ann; father, Ralph Gray; and her grandparents. Donna was an avid reader and a writer of poetry. She was a member of the Writers Guild of Southern Illinois. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Friendly Regional Church of God in Johnston City. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and was also a graduate of the William Woods College in Fulton, Mo. She was a former school teacher. Donna will be truly missed by her family and friends. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday July 30, 2003, in Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Brother Elvin Ervin officiating. Burial with be in the East Fork Cemetery in West Frankfort. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Robert Henry
SPARTA -- Robert "Bob" E. Henry, 72, died at 3:22 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003, in his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Steeleville Baptist Church in Steeleville, with Pastor Greg Sutter officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Energy, with graveside services at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Mr. Henry was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Gary, Ind., to Iley Roscoe and Lillian Alverda (Crouch) Henry. He married Erma D. Harbison May 2, 1964, in Zeigler, and she survives. He was a member of Steeleville Baptist Church in Steeleville. He was a retired repairman for Peabody Coal Company. He had worked at Baldwin Underground. For more than 30 years Mr. Henry was with UMWA Local 1820. He was active in his church is organizations such as the Men's Mission, "Brotherhood. " He was a member of the antique girls and boys club. He volunteered for several years at Lake Salateeska Baptist Church Camp as a counselor and instructor; he taught boys how to fish and he shared his testimony. Survivors include his wife; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Randy and Diana Henry of Farmersville, Jon Michael Henry of Sparta, Keith Robert and Susan Henry of Marshall and Jared Alan and Mary Ann Henry of Willisville; 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Denisha and Andy Brethorst, Tina and Darrell Titus, Donica and Gary Walker, Lisa Henry, Ryan and Linda Henry, Samantha Henry, Madison Henry, Brittany Brzezinsky, Tyler Brzezinsky, Victoria Anderson, Shelby Anderson, R. J. Anderson and Sophie Henry; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rosalee Jones of Rend City and Roberta Miller of Daingerfield, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Ricky Dean. McDaniel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
George Steinmetz
HERRIN -- George Steinmetz, 61, completed his transition from this life to his eternal home with Jesus Christ at 8:50 a.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003, at his home in Herrin surrounded by his loving family. George was born Jan. 7, 1942, in Herrin to James Sylvester and Marie (Vickery) Steinmetz. He married Ruth Sisk on Jan. 7, 1961, in Johnston City. Ruth survives. He was a retired coal miner, having worked at Rend Lake Consol Mine in Sesser. He also worked at Old Ben 25 near West Frankfort. He had previously worked at Allen Industries in Herrin for 13 years. He was a member of Word of Life Church in Herrin. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife; his mother, Marie Steinmetz Whittenberg of Herrin; one daughter, Cheryl Mayers of Johnston City; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill Steinmetz of Herrin and Scott and Penny Steinmetz of Herrin; three granddaughters, Casey Mayers of Johnston City, Lauren Steinmetz of Herrin and Halle Steinmetz of Herrin; several nieces and nephews; and close friends, Leo Porritt and Leslie Hunt. He was preceded in death by his father. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Memories of George will be shared at 6 p.m. with a memorial service. William Ervin
SOUTHERN ILLINOIS -- William D. Ervin, 78, formerly of Montgomery, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2003, in his home in New Port Richey, Fla. He was born Jan. 2, 1965, in Olmsted, a son of the late Arthur and Josie (Schultz) Ervin. He was an engineer with Caterpillar until retirement. William served his country in the Marine Corp. during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the America Institute of Plant Engineers, Industrial Management Association, Foreign Affairs Council, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and the American Legion. Family members include his wife, Freda; five sons, Doc Ervin, Gary Ervin and Bill Ervin, all of Montgomery, Dennis Ervin of Spring Grove and Dana Ervin of Plano; two daughters, Carla Brown of New Port Richey, Fla., and Darcy Capocasa of Tarpon Springs, Fla. ; a brother, Marvin Ervin of Jonesboro; two sisters, Faymel Bergfeld of Aurora and Viola Bagby of Jackson, Mo. ; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway, Montgomery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Montgomery.
Willie Mae Miller
ANNA -- Willie Mae Miller, 84, of Anna, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2003, in Oak Grove Nursing Home in Carbondale. She was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Murray, Ky., the daughter of Herman M. and Zadie A. (Wells) Bridges. Willie married Vernon O. Miller on July 15, 1944, in Jonesboro. He preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1999. She was a homemaker and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Sandy Miller of El Dorado, Ark., and Bill and Kathy Miller of Carbondale; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Joel Riddle of Mayfield, Ky. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Hileman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joe Aldridge officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

WOODLAWN -- Floyd W. "Blackie" Williams, 86, died at 2:20 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2003, in Jeffersonian Nursing Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Oddfellows Cemetery in Woodlawn. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 141 of Mount Vernon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
