Betty June North
CARTERVILLE -- Betty June North, 83, of Carterville, died at Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Dorothy Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Betty was born on June 2, 1921, in Crainville to Robert and Pearl (Crain) Boren. She married James E. Fozzard in 1940. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1945. He was killed in action while honorably serving in the U. S. Army during World War II in Bitche, France. She then married Phillip H. North on Feb. 6, 1953, in Carterville. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1989. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Greg Fisher of Baldwin, Ga. and Rebecca and Russell Brandt of Wapakoneta, Ohio; two sons and daughter-in-law, Tom Fozzard of Carterville and Bill and Jan North of Carterville; eight grandchildren, Marty Fozzard of Crainville, Terri Fozzard of Champaign, Cindi Jeffry of Royalton, Alisa Brandt of Springfield, Lucas and Sandy Brandt of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Jenny and Lee Bogardts of Snellville, Ga., Phillip North of Marion, and Douglas North of Kansas City, Kan; 10 great grandchildren; special nephew, Jack Hadfield and his wife Inge of Carterville. Betty was preceded in death by her two husbands; one brother, Ray Boren; and two sisters, Faye Stewart and Helen Hadfield. Betty was a homemaker. She retired from the Williamson County Courthouse in 1983, where she worked in the State's Attorney's Office, Circuit Clerk Office and the Jail. She also worked for several years at the Carterville Dairy Queen. She was an avid card player, who enjoyed playing pinochle and solitaire. She was a member of the Wednesday Night Pinochle Club in Carterville. She was a member of the Carterville First Baptist Church. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and loved her two cats Callie and Jimmy.

Dan Joseph Raby
BENTON -- Dan Joseph Raby, 33, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at his home in Benton. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, with Brother Mark Minor officiating. Burial will be in Masonic and IOOF Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Raby worked at Flowers by Dave in Benton. He attended the Whittington Baptist Church. He was born on April 21,1971, the son of Ron Raby and Maria Santos, in Noblesville. He is survived by his mother, Maria Santos of Guam; grandfather Albert Raby of Benton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Amy Raby of Zeigler, Jim Raby of Chicago, and Mike and Deana Raby of Cape Coral, Fla. ; one sister and brother-in-law, Tina and Curt Eubanks of Benton; seven nieces and nephews, Jessica LaCourse, Jordan Raby, Jacob and Nick Carpenter, Marina, Nickolas and Marrissa Raby; one aunt, Linda and Gail White of Carbondale and one uncle, Bill and Glenda Raby of Benton. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Mildred Raby and his father, Ron Raby.

Paul Cecil Forker
OLMSTED -- Paul Cecil Forker, 82, of Lincoln Park, Mich., formerly of Olmsted, died Thursday afternoon, Aug. 19, 2004, in the Henry Ford Medical Center in Wyandotte, Mich. Mr. Forker was born June 30, 1922, in America, Ill., the son of the late Charles Forker and Lizette (Dagner) Forker. Mr. Forker was an Episcopal. He was a specialist (firefighter) Third Class, serving in the United States Coast Guard. He was also a retired machinist with Union Carby in Kevil, Ky. Mr. Forker was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and his wife, Ann (Decker) Forker, on Feb. 24, 2004. Survivors include several aunts and cousins. Services for Paul C. Forker will be at 12:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in the National Cemetery in Mound City, with Father Arnold Koffman officiating. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery, with full military honors given by members of the Pulaski County VFW Post No. 8891 of Mounds. Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge. Jones Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lee Arthur Denbo
HARRISBURG -- Lee Arthur Denbo, 63, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, in Gaskins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Hutson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in HarrisburG. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Denbo was a laborer at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He was an Army veteran. He was born April 4, 1941, in Dahlgren, to James Kenneth Darbo and Ethel Marie Wallace. He married Donna Shewmake on June 16, 1962. Survivors include his wife, Donna Denbo of Harrisburg; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Barbara Denbo of Harrisburg, Greg and Alecia Denbo of Denton, Texas, and Jeff and Michelle Denbo of Galatia; three grandchildren, Cameron Denbo of Harrisburg, Morgan Denbo of Denton, Texas, and Mason Denbo of Harrisburg; three step-grandchildren, Brandon, Caitlin and Lindsey Williams; and one step-great-granddaughter, Ashley Williams.

Ammie Phifer
CARTERVILLE -- Ammie Lee Phifer, 73, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, in Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donnie Colson officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Peggy Green
CARBONDALE -- Peggy Green , 93, formerly of Cairo, died at 9:50 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Carbondale Nursing and Rehab Center. Arrangements are incomplete at the Massie Funeral Home in Cairo.

Michael Deming
HERRIN -- Michael Jon Deming, 45, of Mount Carmel, formerly of Herrin, died Aug. 20, 2004, at home. Visitaton will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Mount Carmel. The body is being cremated. Memorials may be made tothe Dee White Memorial Fund.

Katherine M. Black
CARBONDALE -- Katherine M. Black, 69, of Carbondale, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, in the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County. Katherine was born March 23, 1935, in Manhattan, N. Y. She was the daughter of the late James McKenna and Katherine (Maroney) McKenna, both born in Ireland. Her parents preceded her in death. Katherine married George Black of Brooklyn, N. Y., on March 3, 1962, at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Queens, N. Y. A Catholic, she was active in the Newman Center at SIUC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in the Newman Catholic Student Center at 715 S. Washington St. in Carbondale, with Father Chris Piasta officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, at Huffman-Harker Funeral Home in Carbondale. Survivors include her husband, George, of Carbondale; three children, Kathleen Buckley and husband James of Alton, Mary Black of St. Quirze, Spain, and James Black and wife Nuria Planas of Vienna, Va. ; and four grandchildren. Katherine graduated from St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, N. Y., with a degree in English and from SIUC with a master's degree in speech pathology. In 1989, she received her law degree from the SIUC School of Law. She dedicated her legal practice to ensure that handicapped children from all over the Midwest were treated equitably by the school districts they attended. Her dedication to the children will be sorely missed by the handicapped children and their parents in this area. Upon her retirement from the practice of law in 2003, she became a hearing officer for the Illinois State Board of Education in special education cases. Katherine will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and professional colleagues. May she rest in peace. Memorials may be made to the Newman Catholic Student Center at SIUC or to America's Second Harvest.

Helen Brown
MOUNDS -- Helen Brown, 88, died 5:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, in Chareau Girardeau Health Center in Cape Girdrdeau. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Robert Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery at Thebes. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Unity Baptist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Anna Anderson
CARBONDALE -- Anna M. Anderson, 84, died at 2:40 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, in Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Arrangments are incomplete at Jackson Funeral Home in Carbondale.
