Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Cobden, with the Rev. Anette Westermark officiating. Burial will be in the Anna Cemetery. SHAWNEETOWN -- Edna L. Crosley, 90, of Lancaster, Ky, formerly of Paducah and Shawneetown, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Elmwood Cemetery in Equality, with the Rev. David Young officiating. There will be no visitation. DU QUOIN -- Anton Sylvester Berg, 97, died at 12:35 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, in Fairview Nursing Home in Du Quoin. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin, with Monsignor Harry Jerome officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pyatt-Harrawood and Epplin Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart School and will be accepted at the funeral home.

MOUNT VERNON -- Gale H. Fisher, 85, died at 12 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in Mount Vernon Care Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Thurmond Cemetery in Ewing, with the Rev. BENTON -- Marietta Goessman, 89, of Portage, Ind., formerly of Benton, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, in Porter Hospital in Valparaiso, Ind. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, in Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Tony Auxier officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the North Benton Baptist Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
John Robert Adams
WEST FRANKFORT -- John Robert Adams (1930-2005) has left us to be with the Lord. He passed away peacefully at 7:20 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at home. He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Lee (Cole) Adams; his sister, Betty Jean Adams; his four daughters and three sons-in- law, Susan and John Blakely, Kathryn and Donald Downing, Karin Adams, and Sandie and Roger Hughes; and his eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie, Avery, Rachel, John Rodney, Adam Cole, Joshua and Sarah; and his great-grandchild, Jacob. John deeply loved and cherished his wife, Glenda, for 51 years. He was a patient and dedicated father and grandfather. John was always available for his family and was a devoted son, brother and nephew, as well. For those who had the pleasure of calling him their friend, he was truly dependable and supporting. John was also a devout member of First Christian Church of West Frankfort. Among his many accomplishments, John served as president of the Franklin-Williamson Human Services Foundation and SIH Hospital Board. He was also a member of West Frankfort Park Board and the Lion's Club and was an avid supporter of the FCHS band. John was deeply involved in fund raising for these organizations and started the first Bocce Ball Tournament and Breakfast in the Park fund-raisers. John Adams had the unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed and important. As everyone hopes to make a difference in his world, John accomplished much in his quiet and warm style. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Even though he is sorely missed, we know he is now present with the Lord, which gives us great comfort. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at First Christian Church in West Frankfort, with Minister Gene Fox officiating. A lunch will immediately follow at the church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. A walk-through will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home by West Frankfort Lion's and Rotary clubs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc., or to the building fund of First Christian Church in West Frankfort. Donations will be accepted at the funeral home.
Marjorie Adams Treece
CARBONDALE -- Marjorie Eileen Adams Treece, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Marjorie was born Jan. 23, 1921, in Elgin. She worked for Elgin Police Department as secretary to chief of police. At Elgin PD, she met and married Wayne Treece. She lived on Bald Knob in Alto Pass and worked as a secretary for the State of Illinois Department of Human Services in Anna and Carbondale. Marjorie was proceeded in death by her mother, Olga Fosser Adams and her husband of 44 years, Wayne Treece. Marjorie is survived by son, Tom Treece and daughter-in-law, Deborah Treece; her three grandchildren, CM1(SCW) Eric M. Treece, assigned to Naval Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit 8, Sigonella, Italy and wife Cecilia Treece, Melissa A. Drotzur, a teacher in Germany and husband Varnell Drotzur, U. S. Army, Daniel T. Treece, a mechanic in Huntsville, Ala., and wife Donna Treece; her four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Brittany Treece of Sigonella, Italy, Destiny Drotzur of Germany, and Trey Potts of Huntsville, Ala. Marjorie's closest friends include Donna Meier of Carterville and Karen Boros of DuQuoin. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville. Burial will be in Elgin.
Mary Elizabeth Prewitt
HERRIN -- Mary Elizabeth Prewitt, 77, of Herrin, passed away at 8:36 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in the Herrin Hospital. Mrs. Prewitt formerly worked as a retail clerk for F. W. Woolworth's and the Ben Franklin Store in Herrin. She later retired after 13 years from Allen Industries in Herrin. She attended the First Church of God in Herrin. She was born May 31, 1927, in Herrin, to Eddie N. and Lavada A. (Childers) Powell. Mary was united in marriage with Lowell Prewitt on June 10, 1944. He preceded her in death in April of 1976. Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Evelyn Powell of Herrin; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joyce Mathers of Energy, Sondra and Charles Webster of Benton; uncle, Earl Childers of Herrin; several nieces and nephews and their spouses, Michael and Wendy Powell of San Antonio, Texas, Susan and Dennis Henshaw of Marion, Melody and Bob Rindfuss of Carterville, Juli Rushing of Kalamazoo, Mich., Mark May of Herrin, Lisa and Scott Warren of Herrin, Kevin and Jennifer Webster of Macedonia, Kerri and Jim Cottle of Benton; several great nieces and nephews and a very dear and close friend, Emegene Lane of Herrin. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother-in-law, Merle 'Jiggs' Mathers. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Revs. Dan Smith and Don Colson officiating. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Church of God in Herrin.
Mildred Elizabeth Palmer
SIMPSON -- Mildred Elizabeth Palmer, 87, of Simpson, died at 3:55 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, in Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. Mildred was born June 16, 1917, to the late Lewis and Eula (Rushing) Rushing, Ozark. She married Joyce Boaz on Oct. 17, 1937, and he preceded her in death June of 1943. She later married John Palmer on Oct. 23, 1944, at Golconda Methodist Church and he survives. Mildred was a cook for Shawnee Shelter Care and a member of Glendale United Methodist Church, Mary Circle and Eddyville Senior Citizens, where she loved to quilt. She is survived by her husband, John; three sons, Donald Boaz and wife Betty of LeFollette, Tenn., John David Palmer and wife Lana of Belleville and Pastor Stephen Palmer and wife Linda of Carterville; one daughter, Charlotte Palmer of Springfield; one brother, John Rushing and wife Mary of Simpson; two sisters, Carrie Wise and husband Buell of Simpson, Faye Faulkner and husband James of Granite City; eight grandchildren, Sherry Kramer, Tina Markus, Cindy Sauer, Jamie Palmer, Jeremy Palmer, Jason Palmer, Todd Palmer and Jenny Palmer; 10 great-grandchildren, Stephanie Kramer, Justin Kramer, Matt Sauer, Amanda Sauer, Abbey Markus, Josh Sauer, Corey Markus, Brendan Palmer, Sydnie Palmer and Riley Markus. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Joyce; and two sisters, Helen Phelps Emerson and Mary G. Scarborough. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Glendale United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery. Doris M. McDonnough
DU QUOIN -- Doris M. McDonnough, 76, of Du Quoin, died at 2 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Skilled Care Unit. Doris was born on March 2, 1928, in Du Quoin, a daughter of William and Grace (Keigley) Loucks. She was united in marriage to Richard Wayne McDonnough on Aug. 2, 1946, in Chester, and he preceded her in death on April 22, 1992. Doris was a homemaker and a seamstress and enjoyed cross-stitching and crocheting. She also enjoyed reading and playing Uno and Skip-Bo with friends. She was a member of the Nine Mile Baptist Church and was involved in Sunday School ministry in the Du Quoin nursing homes with her husband for 25 years. She is survived by her children, Steven McDonnough and his wife Connie of Tamaroa, Linda Woolsey of DuQuoin and Timothy McDonnough and his wife Lori of Centralia; five brothers, Gordon Loucks and Lloyd Loucks, both of Tamaroa, Bob Loucks of Sesser, Tom Loucks of Merrillville, Ind., and Gary Loucks of Watseka; one sister, Phyllis Neff of Tamaroa; five grandchildren, Chris Woolsey and his wife Morgan, Christina Kocian and her husband Frank, James McDonnough, Melissa Woolsey Bowen, and Angela Williams and husband Jamie; and five great-grandchildren, Emma, Dax, Ethan, Anna and Hannah. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers, Bill, Jack and Marvin Loucks. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Nine Mile Baptist Church in Tamaroa, with Brother Kevin Carrothers officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, DuQuoin. Visitation was Sunday at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville and will be at Nine Mile Baptist Church today from 9 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be made to Pinckneyville Community Hospital Skilled Care Unit or Nine Mile Baptist Church. The children of Doris McDonnough would like to thank Pinckneyville Community Hospital Skilled Care Unit of the exceptional care for their mother during her illness.
