ANNA -- Clara Ruth Graham, 84, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, in Crain Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Mike Gibson officiating. Burial will be American Legion Cemetery in Dongola. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Charles William Anheuser
DU QUOIN -- Charles William Anheuser, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in Benton Health Care. Charles was a retired coal miner, last working as a face boss at Orient No. 6, Freeman Coal Mine. He was a Catholic. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Du Quoin American Legion Post 647, the Du Quoin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 513 and the United Mine Workers of America. He was born March 20, 1918, in Du Quoin, the son of Joseph and Dora (Ebegener) Anheuser. He married Pauline V. Hill Aug. 31, 1940, in Sacred Heart Rectory in Du Quoin, and she survives. He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; one son, Kenneth W. Anheuser of Du Quoin; four grandchildren, Kristina Jo Anheuser, Jeannie Marie Cook, Angela Kay McKinnies and Kenneth G. Anheuser; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Wilma Schiller of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles J. Anheuser; and three sisters. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, in Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with Monsignor Harry Jerome and the Rev. Gerald Wright officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Searby Funeral Home. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin, with military graveside rites conducted by the Du Quoin American Legion and VFW posts. Friends may make memorials to Spirit of Life Christian Church, Sacred Heart Church, the Alzheimer's Association or to the donor's choice. Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home.

ANNA -- Pauline (Davis) Choate, 94, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Anna and Lexington, Ky., died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, in Tucson. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Anna, with Gene Crosser officiating. Burial will be in the Anna Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Alice D. Baker
WEST FRANKFORT -- Alice D. Baker, 99, of West Frankfort, formerly of Johnston City, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in Helia Health Care in Benton. She was born April 6, 1905, in Crofton, Ky., to John Martin and Mary (Loveless) Martin. She was married to William M. Baker, and he preceded her in death in 1975. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Harold G. and Arlene Baker of Johnston City, and four daughters and two sons-in-law, Virginia Odle, Phyllis Grant, and Delores and Rusty Johnson, all of West Frankfort, and Wanda and Ray Rosell of Mishawaka, Ind. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Mary Fay Baker; two grandsons, Randall McCann and Michael Baker; one great-granddaughter, Kimberly Arview; four sisters; and seven brothers. Mrs. Baker was a member of Third Baptist Church in West Frankfort. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with the Rev. Joe Zbinden officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home. Billie J. Bennett
ELKVILLE -- Billie J. Bennett, 76, of Elkville, died at 10:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center Nursing Home in Marion. Billie was born in Pomona Dec. 28, 1928, the son of William T. and Amanda (Williams) Bennett. He married Martha Marcille Miller Dec. 31, 1949, in Oceola, Ark., and she preceded him in death March 26, 1986. Billie was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during World War II and the Korean conflict. He worked at Southern Illinois University Carbondale as a building custodian and enjoyed working with his livestock on his farm. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Gary Dickerson of Du Quoin; one son and daughter-in-law, Bryan L. and Debbie Bennett of Herrin; four grandchildren and their spouses, Krystal Bennett, Kimberly Bennett, Nikki and Shane Sizemore, and Landon Cucchi; one great-grandson, Gage Sizemore; and three sisters, Vera Donnelson and Genevieve Heitzman, both of Eugene, Ore., and Imogene Olmsted of Christopher. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers and three sisters. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in Pyatt-Harrawood and Epplin Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Dan McKinnies officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home. Orin Leroy Gibbons
CARTERVILLE -- Orin Leroy Gibbons, 75, of Arlington Heights, passed away at 5:35 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, in Northwest Community Hospital. He was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Carterville, son of the late Leonard and Thelma Gibbons (Anderson). Orin was a strong, loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Marylee (Kriesel). He is survived by his three children, Michael, Brian and Andrea; six grandchildren, Patrick, Matthew (Vanessa), Lucy, Kelli, Tommi Gibbons and Todd Ferguson; one great-grandchild, Anthony Garner; two sisters, De Vona (Don) Johnson, Marilyn Newman; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Thelma Gibbons and one brother, Neil Gibbons. Orin served honorably for 21 years in the U. S. Navy and retired with the rank of chief petty officer, areographer's mate. He was deeply loved and admired by all who knew him. A private service will be held for family. Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008, is in charge of arrangements.

MURPHYSBORO -- Frankie Wayne Smith, 50, died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Ava. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Evelyn Marie Woods
MURPHYSBORO -- Evelyn Marie Woods, 86, of Murphysboro, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, in the Mimosa Acres Elderly Care in Marion. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Pettett Funeral Home, with Elder David Wendler and pastor Dale Barnhurst officiating and burial in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Adventist Disaster and Relief Agency or Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc. and envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Evelyn was born on Nov. 4, 1918, in Murphysboro, to Henry Smith and Zella (Tresh) Smith. Evelyn retired from teaching school after 36 years. She started her teaching career in Harrisburg, and from there went to Belleville, Hinsdale, and Danville, and taught in Murphysboro. The last 19 years of her teaching were at Longfellow School, where she had attended school as a child. She also had a great talent for music. She played the violin in the SIU Orchestra, which paid for her tuition, which was $17 a term. Evelyn had an exceptional talent for oil painting, china painting and sewing. She painted for 950 pieces of china, and gave many of them to SIU students, who came from many parts of the world. She was a wonderful cook, making many new tasty foods from new recipes. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Du Quoin, where she had been a member for 65 years. She was a member of the Illinois China Painters Association and the Retired Teachers Association. She married William C. Woods on Dec. 26, 1956, in Du Quoin, and he survives. Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Judy Woods of Elverado, Texas and Milton and Darla Woods of Herrin; seven grandchildren, Pamela Spring and her husband Troy Spring, Melinda Colvin and her husband Ray Colvin, Clint Woods and his wife Joan, Michelle Stone and her husband Ervin Stone, Trina Young and her husband Michael Young, Julie Lane and her husband Pete Lane, and Lisa Kesler and her husband Steven Kesler; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one infant daughter Sharon Woods and her parents. We will all miss her always.
