DU QUOIN -- Florence Lee Hartin, 82, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:26 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in Fairview Nursing Center in Du Quoin. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Steve Bareis officiating. Burail will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials to First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.

MURPHYSBORO -- Lawrence Gallick, 82, died at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in the home of his daughter in Indianapolis. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, in First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro, with Pastor Tom Hobson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, with military services conducted by the American Legion Post 127, VFW Posts 7190 and 2605, and the Jackson County DAV Chapter 69. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Pettett Funeral Home and from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.

TILDEN -- Terry R. Ackley, 55, of Tilden, died at 6:23 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in Sparta Community Hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, in Wilson's Funeral Home in Tilden, with Father Lawrence Mariasoosai officiating. Burial will be in the Tilden City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today and from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Tilden Scholarship Fund.

MARION -- Kenneth W. Walker, 76, of Marion, formerly of Murray, Ky., died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in his brother's residence in Marion. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Schell officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Paul Murrie
ALTON -- Clifford Paul Murrie, 78, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, in Alton after a long illness. He served as a church leader and a teacher for the Alton Community School District. He was born in Johnson County on June 15, 1926. He attended Vienna High School and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1948 and 1949. He served in the 1st Cavalry Division of the Army in the Philippines and Japan from 1944 to 1946. He married Natalie Atchison on Dec. 3, 1949, in Granite City, and moved to Alton in 1950 to teach at Roosevelt School. He taught industrial arts at West Junior High School for 33 years. He is survived by his wife, Natalie Murrie; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jackie Murrie, formerly of Carbondale, now living in Los Angeles; one son-in-law, Douglas Jones of Roxana; one brother, Willard Murrie of Vienna; three grandchildren and their spouses, Daniel and April Murrie of Huntsville, Texas, Benjamin and Shawna Murrie of Alexandria, Va., and Susanna Murrie of Hukuntsi, Botswana; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Adelyn and Teagan Murrie of Huntsville. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Murrie Jones; two brothers, Wayne and Howard Murrie; one sister, Edna Faye; and his parents, Walter and Anna Murrie. A celebration of his life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, in Tri-County Church of Christ, located at 120 W. First St. in Roxana. Howard Eugene 'Geno' Ross
CARBONDALE -- Howard Eugene 'Geno' Ross, 53, of Carbondale, died at 3:02 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Geno was born Dec. 16, 1951, in Monmouth, to Chester Wayne and Phyllis I. (Miller) Ross. He married Jeanine Bulliner June 26, 1982, in Herrin. She survives in Carterville. Other survivors include his mother, Phyllis Ross of Carbondale; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Ann Ross; four nephews, Mike and Leigh Ross and Ian Ross all of Colorado Springs, Colo., Chris and Robin Ross of Chino Valley, Ariz., James Marcus and Rachel Ross of Pueblo, Colo. ; a niece, Amber and Jason Shiptanski of Colorado Springs; and several great nieces and nephews. He will miss his many friends at PK's in Carbondale. He was preceded in death by his father and a fellow goose hunter, David 'Squeak' Eagan. Geno was an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked in heating and air conditioning repair for Woodruff Services in Carbondale for several years. He attended elementary school and high school in Roseville, the Black Hawk Junior College and Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Services for Mr. Ross will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler, with Brother Larry Hallman. Burial will be Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visiting hours are from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

MOUNT VERNON -- Ethel L. Sadler, 75, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lawrence James officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday at the Jackson Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
Del Brunty
CARBONDALE -- Del Brunty, 78, of Carbondale, passed away at 1:47 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Rev. Sam Foskey officiating. Interment will be held in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Meredith Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to University Baptist Church, 700 S. University Ave., Carbondale, IL 62901, and will be accepted by the funeral home. Del was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Carbondale, to W. Owen and Loudene (Creal) Brunty. He married Elizabeth Ellis on July 3, 1944, in Murphysboro. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Brunty of Carbondale; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Sheila Brunty of Tempe, Ariz. ; two grandchildren, Tim Brunty of Mesa, Ariz., and Devin Kempster of Glendale, Ariz. ; four great-grandchildren, Nicole and Kylan Kempster, both of Glendale, and Allen Smith and Katherine Brunty, both of Tempe; and one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Gussie Brunty of Murphysboro. Del is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Barbara Brunty; and one brother, Byron Brunty. Mr. Brunty was a Christian man and attended University Baptist Church in Carbondale. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, taking great pleasure in all his grandchildren. Del served his country with the U. S. Army during World War II. During his tour of duty in the military, he saw significant combat. He was in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, including Okinawa, and received the Army of Occupation medal for Japan. Del retired from SIUC as the assistant chief plant operating engineer at the Physical Plant. Mr. Brunty was a member of the SIUC Emeritus and Annuitants Association and the SIU Alumni Association. He had been a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 525. Del was particularly passionate about the generation of power through wind machines. He was always intrigued with the design and engineering of the machines.
Ivan R. Wright
CARBONDALE -- Ivan R. Wright, 69, died at 1:38 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in Dillinger Cemetery, with the Rev. Wes Henson officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois, 1110 N. Johnson St., Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Wright was retired as a firefighter in Carbondale after 21 years in 1989. He was an U. S. Army veteran and a member of the Carbondale Eagles, the VFW and Walnut Street Baptist Church. He was born March 17, 1935, in Carbondale, the son of Raymond Wright and Carrie (McKinney) Wright. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Wright, Joann (Wright) Etherton and Ginger Wright all of Carbondale; one son, Scott Wright of Carbondale; one sister, Shelby Hill of Carbondale; two brothers, Glenn Wright of Carbondale and Darwin Wright of Wichita Falls, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Raymond John Wright.

Richard J. Kraniewski
MARION -- Richard J. Kraniewski, 81, of Marion, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, in Fountain Nursing Home in Marion. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at the Blue Funeral Home, with Dr. Joey Brent and Pastor Jeff Baker officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 27, 2005, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Marion. Military rites will be perfomed by Marion VFW Post 1301 and the American Legion Post 147 in the cemetery after the service. Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Kraniewski was born on July 16, 1923, in Omaha, Neb. to Joseph and Victoria (Starostka) Kraniewski. Survivors include his wife, Pat Kraniewski of Marion; his children, Debra J. Uhls of Sesser, Tracy Lee and Chuck Stirber of Joshua, Texas, John David and Missy Brown of Marion, Victoria and Mark Hazel of Goreville and Richard Joseph II and Donna Kraniewski of Marion; grandchildren, Kevin, Keith, Mike, Angie, Joe, Jessi, Kim, David, Daniel, Collette, Lindsey and one on the way; great-grandchildren, Marshall, Levi, Dylan, Zachary, Madison and Cole; sisters and brother-in-law, Loretta and Bernard Badura of Omaha, Neb. and Rita Wolff of Texas; and stepdaughter, Jackie Triner and her children. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lenny and Joe Kraniewski; and brother-in-law, Bill Wolff, who passed away the same day as Rich. Mr. Kraniewski was a member of First Baptist Church in Marion. He was formerly the executive vice president of Lindstrom Manufacturing in Chicago. He owned and operated Little Egypt Welding, south of Marion. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II at Omaha Beach, Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Marion VFW Post 1301. Rich had a wonderful sense of humor and he loved to play golf and fish. He was a loving father and husband and he will be missed by all.
