John A. Hodgson
MURPHYSBORO -- John A. Hodgson, 74, of Murphysboro, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Pettett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Franklyn Schroeder officiating and burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park with military services. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to TIP Health Services. John was born on Jan. 12, 1929, in Madison, to Samuel W. Hodgson and Ada (Hrabik) Hodgson. He was a Murphysboro High School graduate of the class of 1947. Mr. Hodgson was a Korean Army veteran, and a member of the American Legion Post 127 and the VFW Post 7190. He was retired from the maintenance with the Illinois State Highway Department. John is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Ardelle Hodgson of Winter Springs, Fla. ; two nephews, John Hodgson and his wife Karyn Hodgson of Lawrenceville, Ga., Brian Hodgson and his wife Jo Anne Hodgson of Dayton, Ohio; one niece, Deanna Bowling of Lake Mary, Fla. ; two cousins, Jane Purcell and her husband Joe Purcell of Murphysboro, and Lee Mitchell and his wife Joan Mitchell of Rockford; and his devoted friends, Angela Layne and her sons, Kie and Cody; Danny and Andrea Mann, Maxine Leydon, Leonard Roach, Richard Layne Sr. and family, Louie Roberts, and Paulie Caterino. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Frances Rybacki
RADOM -- Frances M. Rybacki, 91, died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in Fireside House of Centralia. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, in St. Michael Catholic Church in Radom, with Father Daniel Jurek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a rosary recitation at 7:30 p.m., and from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Campagna Funeral Home of Ashley. Memorials may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church or School and will be received by the funeral home.

Lenora Wilson
CAIRO -- Lenora Wilson, 81, of Cairo, died at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at home. She was born in Cairo on Jan. 30, 1923, the daughter of the late Lee and Rebecca Williams. She was a member of First Christian Church, the Cairo VFW Ladies' Auxiliary, Cairo American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary, Cairo Senior Citizens and the Cairo Rebekah Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard E. Wilson, in 1997. Mrs. Wilson is survived by two sons, James E. Wilson of Cairo and Alvin Wilson of Temple Hills, Md. ; one granddaughter, Rhiannon Smith, serving in the U. S. Army at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. ; two grandsons, Curt and Kent Wilson, both of LaCenter, Ky. ; one sister, Margaret Belk of Bertrand, Mo. ; one brother, Carl Dockery of Indianapolis; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Pigg officiating. Interment will follow in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds.

Nadine Scholes
PITTSBURG -- Nadine Scholes, 58, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Arrangements are incomplete at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.

Mae Merriweather
METROPOLIS -- Mae I. Merriweather, 92, died at 6:28 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, in Massac Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Mount Horeb Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Leonard Q. Duncan officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Jackson Funeral Home in Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.

Lottie Turner
KARNAK -- Lottie Turner, 93, died at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, in Southgate Care Center in Metropolis. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Masonic Cemetery in Cypress, with the Rev. Alvin Thomas officiating. Visitation will be after 10:30 a.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak.

Mary Ann (Sheretz) Zoller
MARION -- Mary Ann (Sheretz) Zoller, 88, of Longwood, Fla., passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, in Village on the Green Health Center in Longwood after a battle with lung cancer. A descendant of several early Illinois pioneer families, she was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Marion, the daughter of Charles Miller and Helene Maude (Chamness) Sheretz. She graduated from Marion Township High School in 1935 and continued her education by attending business school. She began her working career as a legal secretary for a local attorney until leaving to marry her high school sweetheart, Virgil L. Zoller, in 1938, in West Point, N. Y. The wife of an Air Force officer, she traveled the globe, living in China, Japan and Korea as well as all over the United States. Throughout her life she worked as a legal secretary and did volunteer and charity work, supporting an orphanage in Korea for many years. An Air Force transfer brought the family to Florida in 1961. Following her husband's retirement from the Air Force in 1963, the family moved to Orlando, where he was employed by Martin Marietta. Mary Ann was the glue that bound the family together through more than six decades, from the 1940s through the turn of the century. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, BriG. Gen. Virgil L. Zoller, USAF, retired; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Michael and Pat Zoller of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Virgil Jr. and Wanda Zoller and John Zoller, all of Orlando, and Steve and Judy Zoller of Seattle; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, in the Village on the Green in Longwood, with Pastor Gerald Schultz officiating. The eulogy was presented by her son, Steve, with comments of memory given by her sons Michael and Virgil. The congregation sang 'Amazing Grace' and 'Rock of Ages. 'Graveside service and interment for Mary Ann (Sherertz) Zoller will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, with the Rev. Bill Rucker officiating. Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home in Marion has been entrusted with local arrangements.

Robert Sill
MURPHYSBORO -- Robert F. Sill, 85, of Ellijay, Ga., formerly of Murphysboro, died at 11:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, in Mountainside Medical Center in Jasper, Ga. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, in Pate Chapel Church. Burial will be in Pate Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel, located on old Illinois 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro, and after 12 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Pate Chapel Building Fund.

Bobby Summers
HERRIN -- Bobby L. Summers, 77, died at 10:39 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, in Herrin Hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

James Edwin Kell
MOUNT VERNON -- James Edwin Kell, 78, of Mount Vernon, died at 10:29 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, in St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Hughey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Everett Lemay officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Kell was a railway mail clerk before becoming postmaster in Bone Gap. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Olney. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 141, the Mount Vernon Amvets, and the Mount Vernon and Olney Elks lodges. He was a past commander of the Carbondale American Legion. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Kell was an avid bowler and was active in the Senior Bowling League. He was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Mount Vernon, to John C. and Lucy (Gaskill) Kell. He first married Betty J. (Leffler) Kell on Nov. 15, 1948, in Chicago, and she died on March 16, 1994. He married Phyllis Lucille (Parker) Kell on Aug. 30, 1975, in Olney, and she died on Feb. 11, 1995. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steve Kell of Mount Vernon, Scott and Tammy Kell of Carterville, and Michael and Jeanette Kell of St. Peters, Mo. ; two daughters, Pamela Dusek of Garden City, Mich., and Patti Coate of Oxford, Mich. ; his special friend, Agnes Tapocik of Mount Vernon; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Mildred Kell of Fairfield, Ohio; one sister, Jane Campbell of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, one brother and one sister. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home or can be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P. O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, IL 62864.

Dorothy Chaney
BELLEVILLE -- Dorothy Marie Chaney, 82, of Belleville, born July 19, 1928, in Alton, formerly of Southern Illinois, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, in St. Paul's Nursing Home in Belleville. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Bonnie Chaney of Pinckneyville; two granddaughters and their husbands, Julia and John Oller of Shiloh and Beth and Patrick Albert of Edwardsville; one grandson, Jerry Chaney of Pinckneyville; three great-granddaughters, Nicole, Sarah and Megan Albert; two brothers, Albert and Wayne Eppenheimer; and one sister, Betty Hoyt. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, in Lake View Funeral Home in Fairview Heights. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Nursing Home in Belleville.
