Velma L. Banke
Velma L. Banke, age 81, of Elgin, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2001, in her home. She was born May 14, 1919, in Ft. Smith, AR, the daughter of John A. and Cora Warren Dove. She had been a resident of Elgin for over 50 years. She had been employed by the Elgin National Watch Co., and then Chicago Rawhide in Elgin before retiring. She was a loving mother to her four adopted children.
Evelyn was a longtime member of First Assembly of God Church of Elgin, and, a member of the Women's Aux. of American Legion Post 57 of Elgin.
Survivors include her four children, Donald Banke, of Roscoe, IL, James (Karen) Banke, of Elgin, Sandra (Craig) Grant, of Marengo, Michael Banke, of Ishpeming, MI; seven grandchildren; one brother, John L. (Phyllis) Dove, of Hampshire; one sister, Betty (Wayne) VanValkenberg, of Jasper, GA; and her life long friend, Amelia Lara, of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Leon A. Roberts.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 20, at 11:30 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with Rev. Larry Bradshaw officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Monday, February 19, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Research.
Philip C. Harwood
Philip C. Harwood of Elgin passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2001 in his home.
He was born in Elgin the son of Fred and Catherine Wolfe Harwood. He had been a resident of Elgin all of his life. He had been employed by Dukane Corp. for 38 years retiring in 2000. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict from 1960 to 1962 serving in the US Army. He was a member of the Model T Ford Club International, the Early Ford V-8 Club of America, the Illinois Steam and Power Club, American Legion Post 57 of Elgin, the Pierce Arrow Society and the Antique Automobile Club of America.
He is survived by his mother, Catherine Harwood of Elgin; two nephews, John Harwood of Elgin, Bill (Cynthia) Harwood of Crystal Lake; his dear friend, Marla Harris of Elgin and his sister-in-law Carol Harwood Graeff of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred and his brother Tom.
Private funeral services will be held Monday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 PM to 4 PM in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Anderson Animal Shelter 1000 N. LaFox, South Elgin or to the charity of one's choice.
Wilbert L. "Wib" Heinrich
Wilbert L. "Wib" Heinrich, 81, of rural Hampshire, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001 at the Rosewood Care Center, Elgin.
He was born Feb. 5, 1920 in Addison, the son of August and Helena (Krage) Heinrich.

Elda Dunteman on April 24, 1949 in Bloomingdale and they have resided in the Hampshire/Pingree Grove area since March of 1957. Mr. Heinrich was a farmer, operating a dairy until 1969.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Elgin where he served as an usher and as a former member of the Church council. He also served on the Kane Co. Farm Bureau Board of Directors and as a former Rutland Twp. Board member. "Wib" and Elda belonged to the Kane Co. Rural Couples Club, the Northern Illinois Senior Services and he was well known in bowling leagues in Huntley, Hampshire and Addison.
Survivors include his wife, Elda; a daughter, Audrey Henrich of Elgin; a son, Dan (Anne) Heinrich of Hampshire; three grandchildren, Christopher (fiance Cindy) Heinrich of Kirkland, Michael and Stacey Lynn Heinrich of Hampshire; a great-granddaughter, Aly Heinrich; and a brother, Norman (Lillian) Heinrich of Crystal Lake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorna Schlomann and Ann Carstens; and a brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 17 at the St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 220 Division St., Elgin, the Rev. Thomas O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in the Washington-McQueen cemetery, rural Elgin.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday in the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire and on Saturday at the church prior to services.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
Helen Pedersen Baukin Hoffman
Helen Pedersen Baukin Hoffman, 94, of Elgin passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2001 in the Rosewood Care Center, Elgin.
She was born July 17, 1906 in Elgin, the daughter of Howard and Lena Funk Gilmore.
She had been a resident of Elgin all of her life. She had been employed by the Elgin National Watch Co., Ackeman's Dept. Store and Kiddie College before retiring.
She was a member of the Highland Avenue Church of Brethren of Elgin, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 212 of Elgin, and the Sharon Shrine #26 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
Survivors includes a step-son, Charles (Susan) Hoffman of Crystal Lake; a niece, Nancy (Louis) Prescher of Hampshire; several great nieces and nephews; and five cousins, Ruth Norbraten, Robert (Joyce) Freyer, Fred Funk and Arthur (Margaret) Funk, all of Elgin and Charles (Dorothy) Schroeder of New Jersey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband,Russell Pedersen; her second husband, Charles Baukin; her third husband, Virgil Hoffman; and a nephew, James Borchardt.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Don Shank officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Sunday in the funeral home.

Edwin R. Johnson
Edwin R. Johnson, 75, of Elgin passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
He was born March 12, 1925 in Elgin, the son of Edwin and Amy Fisk Johnson.
He grew up in Elgin before going into the service in 1942, he returned to Elgin in 1977. He had served in the Navy and Air Force for over 23 years during WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He served on Air Force One as a Flight Engineer under four Presidents. After retiring from the Air Force in 1966 he then worked for Owens-Illinois Auto Pack Division for 10 years and then drove trucks for Car Carriers, Chamberlain, Air Temp and Lathrop Brothers.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elgin; the American Legion Post 57 of Elgin; the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 799 of Elgin; the Medinah Temple of Chicago; the Masonic Lodge 586 in Long Island City, N.Y.; the T.R.E.A.; and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 446.
Survivors include his wife, Grayce "Tomi" Johnson, whom he married
on Feb. 14, 1949; two sons, Randy(Barbara) Johnson of Arlington, Texas and Wayne (Cathy) Johnson of Sachse, Texas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert Bruce (Shirley) Fellows of Elgin andEugene Fellows of Naples, Fla.; and two sisters, Betty Peabody of Elgin and Carol (Roger) Shear of Yuma, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother and step father, Amy Johnson Fellows and Virgil Fellows; and a sister, Audrey Ewert.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tues. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Glen Arthur Halbe officiating. Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Elwood.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Monday in the funeral home.

Gloria C. Kowalski
Gloria C. Kowalski, 49, of Carpentersville died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001 in her home.
She was born in Cotulla, Texas on Oct. 25, 1951, the daughter of Jose and Elodia (nee Ramirez) Charo.
She was a 17 year resident of the Carpentersville area. She was a member of St. Monica Church of Carpentersville. She was a 30 year employee of Electro Dynamics of Rolling Meadows.
Survivors include two daughters,Annette C. Saldivar of Des Plaines and Cynthia (Peter) Calderon of Carpentersville; a son, Michael Lee Kowalski of Carpentersville; five grandchildren, Annette, Debrah, Anthony, Korina and Joseph; her father, Jose Charo of Texas; two sisters, Oralia Charo and Rafaela (Frank) Garcia, both of Texas; and a brother, Jose Charo, Jr. of Carpentersville.
She was preceded in death by her mother; her son, Robert James Kowalski; and her husband, LeRoy Kowalski in 1989.
Funeral services will be on Monday at 9:15 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee with prayers to St. Monica Church of Carpentersville for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be 1-6 p.m., Sunday in the funeral home.
Evelyn Krasnick
Evelyn Krasnick, 86, of Kalamazoo, Mich., formerly of Elgin passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2001.
She was born Dec. 13, 1914 in Elgin, the daughter of Harry and Anna (Stein) Raffelson.
A long time resident of Elgin, Del Ray Beach, Fla. and a resident of Kalamazoo the past three years. She was a member of the Congregation of Moses in Kalamazoo, Congregation of Kneseth Israel of Elgin, Temple Emeth of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; also member of Hadassah and B'Nai Brith. For 33 years she was co-owner with her husband of Community Jewelers in Elgin. On Oct. 22, 1939 she was united in marriage to Martin Krasnick who preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy; and a brother, Sidney.
Survivors include her children, Harry Krasnick of Indonesia, Judy (Lowell)Seyburn of Portage, Mich., Don (Elaine) Krasnick of Havertown, Penn.; and her grandchildren, Adam, Erica, Matthew and Alan.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Sunday at the Langeland Family Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, Mich., with Rabbi Harvey Spivak officiating. Interment will follow in Jewish Riverside cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Congregation of Moses.
Kathryn R. Lewis
Kathryn R. Lewis, 55, of Bartlett, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001 in her home.
She was born Dec. 24, 1945 in Denver, Colo., the daughter of John and Martha Rugg.
Kathryn was a Special Education Teacher in Schaumburg School District 54.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elgin and a member of Problem Based Learning Consortium
Survivors include her husband, B. Fred Lewis of Bartlett, whom she married
on March 29, 1975; two sons, Allen, a student on leave and Steve, both living at home; a brother, Alen (Suzanne Boyer) Rugg of Virginia; and her mother of Delaware.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday in the First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Ave., Elgin, the Rev. Thomas Walker officiating. Burial will be in Bartlett cemetery, Bartlett.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m., Sunday in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St. (Rt. 31), Elgin and on Monday at the church starting at 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.
Eva B. Nadler
Eva B. Nadler, 86 of West Dundee died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001 at the Rosewood Care Center, Elgin.
She was born on Nov. 16, 1914 in Dickison, N.D., the daughter of John and Elizabeth Szekeres.
She was a 25 year resident of the Dundee area and a former employee of Revcor Manufacturing in Carpentersville. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Nadler of Johnsburg, Ill.; a daughter, Beverly (Vince) Vincent of Elgin; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lena Guldner of Arlington Heights.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob in 1983; and three brothers, Andrew, Peter and John.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, the Rev. Richard Rosinski officiating. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
Visitation will be 9 a.m., Saturday until the time of services in the funeral home.
