Velma Irene O'Dell
Velma Irene O'Dell, age 86, of Elgin, passed away on March 13, 2002 after a prolonged illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Okey O'Dell; sister, Ellie; stepson, Michael; and grandson, Marty.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue; stepson, Larry (Sheila); four grandchildren, Joe, JulieAnn, Owen and Clayten; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Theo and Isabelle residing in West Virginia; as well as a multitude of loving friends.
Velma was known for her steadfast love for God and gentle spirit. She will be lovingly remembered by family and friends.
A private memorial will be held.
Evelyn A.F. Redmer
Evelyn A.F. Redmer, 84, of Joliet, former many year resident of Dundee, died Monday, March 18, 2002 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. She was born in Chicago on July 25, 1917, the daughter of Emil and Clara Gilson.
She was a former many year member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Dundee.
She is survived by three daughters, Marlene L. Wysocki of Plainfield, Joanne Long of Princeton, WI and Sandra (Larry) Wackett of Lovell, WY; a son, Donald (Dee) Redmer of Princeton, WI; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dolly Galloway of DeKalb, Mildred Kita of Louisiana and Esther (Delwin) Plummer of Dundee.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arthur, in 1991.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. The Rev. William P. Yonker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service.
John A. Beu
John A. Beu, 85, of East Dundee died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was born in West Dundee on December 29, 1917, the son of Henry and Martha (nee Frenk) Beu. John was a life long resident of Dundee. He was a former 31 year employee of International Harvester. He was a World War II Army veteran. John was also a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Elgin.
He is survived by his brother, Henry (the late Dorothy) Beu of Florida. Also, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years, Elaine M. Gerdau Beu on July 2, 2002. They married
on May 7, 1949. Three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Calvary Lutheran Church, Elgin. The Rev. Roger Pollock will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dundee Twp. East cemetery in East Dundee. Visitation will be on Friday from 3-7 at the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Saturday in the church from 9 a.m. until time of service. Please omit flowers, memorials may be made to either the Calvary Lutheran Church, Elgin or to the charity of one's choice.
Gerard H. Doucet
Gerard H. Doucet, 71, of Carpentersville, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at the Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Born on July 7, 1931 in New Bedford, MA, the son of Gerard L. and Deneige (nee Ayotte) Doucet. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Gerard was a 34 year resident of the Carpentersville area and attended St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Algonquin.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Eleanor (nee Rezendes) Doucet; one son: Ronald Doucet of Algonquin; one daughter: Jacqueline Doucet of Carpentersville, two grandchildren, Christopher and Kaitlyn, two brothers, Robert (Mary Lou) and Paul Doucet both of Chicago, two sisters, Theresa Vaughn and Doris (John) Tracy both of Chicago, many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Rene and one sister, Jacqueline.
Family and friends will meet for Funeral Mass on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Algonquin. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-9 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Saturday in the church from 9 a.m. until time of mass at the church.
Margaret Richter
Margaret Richter, 76, of Elgin passed away Wednesday in the Heritage Manor, Elgin. She was born May 20, 1926 in Yugoslavia, and was the daughter of Johann and Maria Hutz Pfeiffer. Resident of Elgin for most of her life.
Survivors include three daughters, Rosie (Bob) Lesser of Algonquin, IL, Erika Richter of Denver, CO and Marilyn (Terry) Spradlin of Elberta, AL, one son, Gary (Lisa) Richter of Elgin, IL, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with Willow Creek Church officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Mildred Pamela Spates Sims
Mildred Pamela Spates Sims, 55, of Elgin, IL died Sunday, March 16 at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore, IL. She was born October 5, 1947 to Rev. Leonard and Mildred (Taylor) Spates.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy Sims, whom she married
on October 31, 1970; a son, Sawnhedrin Sims of Elgin; her daughters, Shimra Sims, Sapria Sims and Shawron Sims of Elgin and five brothers and eight sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
At the family's request, the services for Mildred Pamela Sims has been moved to The Living Gospel Church of God in Christ, 1515 Dundee Avenue, Elgin, IL on Friday, March 21 at 12 noon. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the time for the services at noon at the church. Please omit flowers, with memorials to her family. Arrangements were made with Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Chapel.
Gene B. Skelley
Gene B. Skelley, 54, of Burlington, IA passed away Tuesday, March 18 at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Sentinel, OK on August 24, 1948. He was a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and owner of Summer Street Animal Clinic of Burlington.
He was a past elder of his church, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), past president and member of New Crystal Lake Sportsman Club, long-standing member of Ducks Unlimited, an avid hunter and fisherman, on the Board of Directors of F&M; Bank & Trust, a member of American Veterinary Association and the U.S. Army Reserves.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Cindy (Collingbourne), two sons, Joe (Jennifer) and Ben; all of Burlington, his mother RosaLea of Rocky, OK, sister Diane Skelley of Mustang, OK, his in-laws Al and Nancy Collingbourne of Escondido, CA; brothers-in-law Albert (JoAnne) Collingbourne and Peter (Jean) Collingbourne, both of East Dundee, IL, sister-in-law Debbie (John) Engel of Florida, many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hervie and brother, Gomer.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 21, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 1221 Park Ave, Burlington, IA. Services will be Saturday, March 22 at 10 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for First Christian Church.
Lynn Marie Weis
Lynn Marie Weis, age 32, of West Dundee, IL and formerly of Valley City, N.D. died Monday, March 17, 2003 in West Dundee. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2003 in St. Catherine Catholic Church in Valley City, N.D. with Monsignor Brian Donahue, celebrant and Reverend Ellen Arthur co-officiating. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday evening in the church with a prayer service following the rosary. Interment will take place 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2003 in St. Michael's cemetery in Sioux Falls, S.D. A time of fellowship will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Tea, S.D. immediately following the committal service.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in St. Catherine Church and one hour before services in the church Saturday morning.
Lynn Marie Weis was born February 22, 1971 at Huron, S.D., the daughter of Frank and DonnaMae (Hoshal) Weis. Lynn attended Madison Elementary School in Huron and later moved with her family to Valley City in 1978 and graduated from Valley City High School in 1989. Lynn attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst Branch in Amherst, MA where she graduated in 1995. Lynn worked for Sears as an associate buyer of women's clothing in Pittsburgh, PA, Syracuse, NY and later for 3 1/2 years in Chicago.
Lynn was a nanny in Boston for two years. She received an award for nanny of the year. Lynn volunteered much time with Habitat for Humanity in Chicago. She also was very active in St. Catherine's Catholic Church in West Dundee, IL. Lynn was a people person and had great organizational abilities for activities regarding her co-workers and family.
Lynn is survived by her parents, Frank and DonnaMae Weis, Valley City, one brother, Douglas Weis, Cavalier, N.D. and numerous other relatives. Lynn was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Daniel and Christine Weis, Tea, S.D. and her maternal grandparents Floyd and Jennie Hoshal, Calumet, MN and other relatives.

Albert G. "Al" Keller, Jr.
Albert G. "Al" Keller, Jr., 85, of Burlington, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Alderwood Healthcare Center in South Elgin.
He was born April 18, 1916 in Henpeck, IL, the son of Albert and Elizabeth (Amon) Keller. Al married
Virginia M. Herrmann on November 19, 1938 at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire. Mr. Keller operated a dairy farm in Burlington for 30 years and had been employed by the Kane Co. Highway Department for 15 years. Following retirement, he worked part-time for the Hampshire Township Highway Department. He loved the outdoors, woodcutting, and putzing.
Mr. Keller was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, a 70 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a former member of the Kane Co. Farm Bureau and Elgin Moose.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia; five children, Albert III "Skip" (Joan) Keller of Boscobel, WI, Marcia (David) Dieckman of Ladysmith, WI, Karla (Roger) Thrun of Elgin, Roger (Donna) Keller of Crystal Lake and Donna (Mike) Block of Burlington; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Charles (Mary) Keller of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Omar Dieckman; three brothers, John, Henry and Frank; also his sister, Bette Dwyer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, March 25, 2002 at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 297 E. Jefferson St., Hampshire with the Rev. Joseph Nicolosi officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 P.M. Sunday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire with the Rosary at 1:45 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Burlington Fire and Ambulance Services.
Joan E. "Joey" (McBride) Kennedy
Joan E. "Joey" (McBride) Kennedy, 80, of Westborough and formerly of Scottsdale, AZ died on March 22, 2002 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. She was the wife of the late Harold Kennedy.
Born in Elgin, IL, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Marie (Schlager) McBride.
Mrs. Kennedy was a 1939 graduate of Elgin Academy in Elgin, IL where she made many life long friends. She also attended Colorado College. Mrs. Kennedy was a resident of Scottsdale, AZ for 45 years before moving to the Willow Retirement Community of Westborough, MA where she was a very active resident. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Arizona Desert and spend time there camping, and searching for Indian artifacts. She had an extensive collection of music from the 30's, 40's and 50's. She also collected Southwestern Indian art. Mrs. Kennedy enjoyed people.
She is survived by four daughters, Sue Abiad (Pier) of Tenafly, NJ; Janet (William) DeWolf of Southborough, Ma, Grace (Alex) Waddell of Tucson, AZ and Marie (Bob) Moeser of Lancaster, CA; 12 grandchildren, Victoria and Katherine Abiad, David, Steven and Julia DeWolf, Aaron, Thomas and Ben Davis, Kelly, James and Lauren Waddell, Eric Moeser.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 25, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mark's Church, Main Street, Southborough, MA. Burial will follow in the Rural cemetery in Southboro, MA. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 24, 2002, 1-4:00 P.M. at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough, MA.

William P. Mitchell
William P. Mitchell, age 95, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. He was born August 7, 1906 in Chicago, the son of William and Mary McFadden Mitchell. He had been a resident of Elgin most of his life and was a graduate of Elgin High School 1925. He was employed as General Manager for Elgin Coal and Oil and then was President of Brady Ready Mix from 1960 until 1976. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.
He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Elgin and American Legion Post 57 of Elgin. He was a former member of Elks Lodge 737 of Elgin and The Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 799 of Elgin.
Surviving are three children, Rev. Msgr. John J. Mitchell of Loves Park, IL, Nancy M. Shoemaker of Palatine and Terrance E. (Elizabeth) Mitchell of Carpentersville; five grandchildren, Katherine J. Shoemaker, Bridget A. (Joseph) Sabbia, John M. (Lisa) Mitchell, Jennifer L. (Jamie) Rubin and Julie E. Mitchell; three great-grandchildren, William P. and Ryan E. Shoemaker and Katherine J. Sabbia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rita Meagher Mitchell in 1999; a son, William P. Mitchell, Jr.; two sisters, Eleanor Knott and Mary O'Connell; also two brothers, Arthur and Leo Mitchell.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 25, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. John J. Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Gilberts. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin and Monday from 9:30 until the time of Mass in the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Edward High School Education Foundation.
Robert J. Mohr, Jr.
Robert J. Mohr, Jr., 52, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2002 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born January 31, 1950 in Chicago, IL and was the son of Robert J. Mohr, Sr. of Arizona and the late Elaine Brown Mohr. Robert graduated from Dundee High School and had an Associates Degree in Business from Elgin Community College. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elgin. Robert was employed by the Village of Schaumburg as a Police Officer, receiving many honors, retiring after 25 years of service. He was recently employed for 911 Data Systems Division of Lisle, where he was a Project Manager.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kristine Gangestad Mohr, whom he married
in 1971; two sons, Anthony (Kim) Mohr and Keith (Jackie) Mohr, both of Lake in the Hills; his father, Robert J. Mohr, Sr. of Arizona; three brothers, Richard, David and Steven; also many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine Brown Mohr.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 25, 2002 at 9:30 A.M. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elgin with Rev. Edward Seisser officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-8:00 P.M. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, and on Monday in the church starting at 8:30 A.M. until the time of services.
