Bernice E. Gromer
Bernice E. Gromer, 93, of Elgin passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003 in Sherman West Court, Elgin. She was born August 23, 1909 in Elgin and was the daughter of William F. and Cordilia L. Volstorff Gromer. Resident of Elgin for all of her life, Bernice graduated from Elgin High School in 1928. She attended Northern Illinois State Teacher's College in DeKalb, IL. Bernice taught school in the Schaumburg, Glenview, and Elgin Public Schools for 36 years prior to her retirement.
Member of the First Congregational Church of Elgin, the Order of the Eastern Star #212, the Women of the Moose Lodge and the Illinois Teachers Association.
Survivors include three nieces, Gene Ann Venell of California, Carolyn Plath of Boston, MA and Mary Johnson of Arizona and many close friends.
preceded in death by her parents, her brother Earl H. Gromer and her sister, Mildred Gromer Chalupe.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with Rev. Paris Donehoo officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of services in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church or Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin.

Joanne M. Held
Joanne M. Held, 84, of Lake Villa, IL, formerly of Carpentersville, IL, passed away at Highland Park Hospital on Monday, March 24, 2003.
She was born in London, England on February 21, 1919. She was a resident of Lake Villa for the past three years, and had been a resident of Carpentersville for many years. She was active with the Lindenhurst Park District Senior Group.
She is survived by her children, Michael Korotasz of Elgin, IL, Karen (Frank) Benincasa of Pennsylvania, Tracy (Greg) Castro of Lindenhurst, IL, Gary (Susan) Held of Carpentersville, IL and Robert Held of Florida; her grandchildren, Joseph, Janet, Edward, Denise, Jeffrey, Vikki, Michael, Trisha, James, Nicole, Andrew, Mia, Amy, Amanda and Marcus; and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her children, Deborah Ortman and Peggy Real; and a brother.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, March 27, 2003 at East Dundee Township cemetery, East Dundee, IL. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 from 4 to 8 PM at RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Rt. 83 (Milwaukee Ave) (two blocks South of Rt. 132-Grand Ave), Lake Villa, IL, 60046. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Funeral info: 847-356-2146.

Ethel A. Hendrickson
Ethel A. Hendrickson of Elgin. Born July 21, 1916 in Bayonne, N.J. She died March 20, 2003 in Elgin, IL.
She was the beloved wife of the late George R. Hendrickson.
She is survived by her sons, George (Barbara), Spartanburg, S.C., Richard (Lynne), West Dundee, IL and Ronald (Gloria), North Arlington, N.J., seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Madison Funeral Home, Elgin, IL. Interment will be private in Beverly Hills, FL.

Lester K. Richards
Les Richards, 85, a native of Elgin, passed away at his home in Tucson, Arizona on Monday, March 17, 2003.
Mr. Richards was born July 8, 1917 in Chatham, IL and lived in Elgin for over 50 years before moving to Tucson in 1979.
He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran serving his country in Germany, France and Holland. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #117, Elgin since January 1953.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Monroe Richards of Tucson; daughters, Connie (Michael) Adolph of Aurora and Joan McCurdy of Elgin and Kay (Bob) Paulsen of Woodstock; a son, Kenneth (Veta) Richards of Phoenix, AZ; a brother, Bob Richards of Elgin; sisters, Hester Wiley and Ruth Bowers both of Elgin; seven grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters.
A Memorial Visitation will be held at St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Church 36W957 Highland Avenue, Elgin (the corner of Randall Road and Highland Avenue), from 2 to 4 PM on Saturday, March 29, 2003.

Cynthia Y. Burgess
Cynthia Y. Burgess, 66, of West Dundee, IL passed away Monday in the Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry, IL. She was born November 13, 1935 in Oak Park, IL, and was the daughter of John Clayton and Jean (Wilson) Youker.
Cynthia taught in School District 300 for many years. She also worked as the cemetery director at River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Cynthia also was employed at the Disney and Winslow's Hallmark stores in Spring Hill Mall.
She was a board member of School District 300.
Survivors include three children: Laurie (Doug) Benton of Crystal Lake, IL, Kristie (John) Wagner of Hawthorne Woods, IL, and P.J. (Janette) Burgess of Rockford, IL; six grandchildren: Amanda and Patrick Benton, Bailey, Marissa and Colton Wagner, and Alexandria Burgess; a brother, John "Buz" (Thirza) Youker of Fort Wayne, IN; a sister, Evelyn "Deanie" (John) Minniear of Oshkosh, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, George (in 1991).
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Laird West Dundee Home, 120 S. Third St., West Dundee, IL. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee, IL. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Alice Kossakowski
Alice Kossakowski, 86, of Wheaton, IL died March 25, 2002 in Wheaton. She was born December 13, 1915 in Chicago, IL, to Frank and Hattie (Staskiewicz) Dobecki.
Survivors include a son, Anthony; three daughters: Harriet (Roland) Karall, Angeline (John) Nemec, and Christine (Thomas) Dobbins; six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Kossakowski.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anton; two brothers, Walter and Eugene.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin with Father Dominic Cassidy officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Thursday, 9 a.m. until time of service.
Please omit flowers and make memorials to the Alzheimer Foundation.

Charlotte Keith (Furman) O'Neill
Charlotte Keith (Furman) O'Neill, 78, of La Quinta, CA, formerly of Charleston SC and Elgin, IL, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at Eisenhower Medical Center, Rancho Mirage, CA. She was born February 12, 1924 in Charleston, SC to Frank Heyward Furman and Annie May Johnson. She attended Memminger High School and The College of Charleston. She married George M. O'Neill in 1943. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, West Dundee, IL. She was an avid golf and tennis player, loved travel, literature, and crossword puzzles. "Granny" will be missed.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, George; three children, George (Treva) O'Neill, Jr. of Carbondale, IL, Furman (Patricia) O'Neill of Carpentersville, IL and Peggy (Chris) Tiger of Palm Desert, CA; four grandchildren, Breton (Rob) Fierstein, Erin O'Neill, Shannon O'Neill and Dana O'Neill.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Frances May Jordan.
Contributions may be made to the Charlotte F. O'Neill Memorial Fund at the Eisenhower Medical Center Foundation, 3900 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270.

Patricia Jean Pearsaul (Donnelly)
Patricia Jean Pearsaul, 81, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in Elgin, Illinois. Born February 18, 1921 in Normal, Illinois, of Margaret MacFarlane Donnelly (Schrader) and Frank Edward Donnelly, she has resided in Elgin since 1948.
For many years she operated Pearsaul Real Estate in Elgin. She began her career in real estate in 1956, shortly after the death of her husband. In 1964, she was elected the first woman president of the Elgin Board of Realtors and later served on the Board of Directors and numerous committees. In 1985, she was named Elgin Realtor of the Year. She was the first woman to be elected to the Elgin City Council, Where she served from 1971-1975. She was named Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Woman's Club in 1974. Active in civic affairs, she was a member of the American Association of University Women, Donors Club, Elgin Symphony League, Junior Service Board, Searchers, Sherman Hospital Auxiliary, treasurer and director of the Zonta Club of Elgin, and past president of the Elgin Junior Women's Club. She also was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree is psychology.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents and step-father, Wilbur Schrader. She is survived by her sons: Geoffrey and Gregory Pearsaul, both of Vero Beach, Florida; a daughter, Sara Pearsaul of Chicago; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on March 29, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 216 East Highland, Elgin, with burial at Bluff City cemetery in Elgin. Visitation will be on March 28 from 4-8 p.m. at the Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or to the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, 410 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60505.

Henry "Hank" A. Richardson III
Henry "Hank" A. Richardson III, age 57, of Elgin, died Sunday, March 24, 2002 at his home in Elgin following a long battle with lung cancer. Born March 29, 1944 in Phoenix, AZ to Henry A. and Dorothy Alta (Thomas) Richardson, Jr.
He was a truck driver for Casco Industries in South Elgin. He was a very active volunteer for Easter Seals Jayne Shover Center in Elgin. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose-Elgin Lodge #799.
He is survived by his wife, Judith (Kawa) Richardson, whom he married on August 16, 1963; his son, David A. (Julie) Richardson of Elgin; two daughters, Beth A. (Dave) Wickstrom of Cortland, IL and Patricia L. Richardson of Elgin; a brother, John Richardson of North Dakota; his grandchildren, Jacquelynn and Joseph "Joey" Richardson of Elgin, Matthew Mish of Cortland, IL and Steven and Jennifer Styburski of Cortland, IL, Ben, Cory and Jason Murphy of Elgin, and Tesa, Michael and Dean Wickstrom of Cortland, IL; his aunt, Alta Wisbar of Elgin; his father and mother-in-law, George and Betty Kawa of Elgin; sisters-in-law, Luella Kawa of DeKalb, IL and Barbara Richardson of Elgin; also his niece and nephew, Joanna and Jason Richardson of Elgin, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Joan Richardson in 1999; his brother, Bruce A. Richardson in 1995 and his brother-in-law, Gregory Kawa in 1990.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 29, 2002 at 12 Noon at the Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Martha Nelson of Hosana Lutheran Church in St. Charles officiating. Burial will be at River Valley Memorial Gardens cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be on Thursday, March 28, 2002 from 3 to 9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial tributes in Hank's name be made to the EASTER Seals Jayne Shover Center, 799 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin, IL 60123. Alberta Marie Vaughan
Alberta Marie Vaughan, age 85, of Elgin passed away Sunday, March 24, 2002 in her home. She was born June 1, 1916 in Laurens, Iowa, the daughter of William J. and Mae Dougherty Homuth. After graduating from Plato Center High School, Alberta attended West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing. She served her country during World War II as a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp. Alberta worked for many years as a Registered Nurse at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, retiring in 1979.
Alberta was an avid sports fan of all levels of competition. She especially enjoyed watching her husband, children and grandchildren participate in athletics.
Alberta is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ralph "Red" Vaughan; four children, Ronald Vaughan of Gresham, OR, Ralph (Judi) Vaughan of Elgin, Sandra (Jeff) Rifken of Elgin and Nora (Gregg) Allison of Portland, OR; 12 grandchildren, Tom (Christy) Vaughan of Florida, Christine (Dan) Duffy of Texas, Mark (Mandy) Vaughan of Gurnee, IL, Barbara (Brian) Thompson of Minnesota, Monica (Sam) Calavitta of California, Melissa (Michael) Thornton of Elgin, Megan (Jeff) Turner of Elgin, Jennifer Rifken of Massachusetts, Jake Rifken of Vermont, Lauren, Hannell and Luke Allison of Oregon; 18 great-grandchildren; two dear sisters-in-law, Josephine Homuth and Lillie "Pete" Homuth; also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard Vaughan; a sister, Mercedes Seyller; also three brothers, William, Ernest and Eugene Homuth.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 28, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund, 535 Knoxbury Ct., Elgin, IL 60123.

Alpha Beth Einersen
Alpha Beth Einersen (nee Stensrud), 88, resident of Wheaton, formerly of Elgin, died March 26. She was born April 25, 1914 in Chicago, IL. Mrs. Einersen was a long time member of the Northside Gospel Center in Chicago. "Beth" enjoyed traveling, and was an avid gardener, who also loved reading whenever possible. Her family and friends knew and loved her as "a terrific mother and grandmother."
She is survived by her son Robert Joel "Robb" (Sally) Einersen of Lombard, her son in law Tim Baergen of Glen Ellyn; her grandchildren Stephen (Donna) Einersen of Chicago, Derek (Sue) Einersen of Morton Grove, Daryle (Jennifer) Einersen of Villa Park, Carolyn (Tom) Evans of Lombard, and Jeffrey, Mariel, Christopher and Kamarie Baergen of Glen Ellyn, and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Jill Baergen of Glen Ellyn.
A visitation will be held Friday, March 28, 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Wheaton, with funeral services following at 1:30 p.m. Interment at Wheaton cemetery. Memorials may be given to either Moody Bible Institute, 820 N. LaSalle Drive, Chicago, IL 60610 or AWANA Youth Association, 1 East Bode Road, Streamwood, IL 60107-6658.
