Earl F. Tillery
Earl F. Tillery, 88, of Elgin passed away Sunday, February 9, 2003, in Asta Care Center, Elgin.
He was born July 10, 1914, in Lebanon, MO., the son of Oril and Verga Tillery.
Earl's family moved to Elgin shortly after his birth and, except for a few years during World War II when he worked in the steel mills in Indiana, he was proud to call himself a resident of Elgin. He graduated from Elgin High School and attended Wheaton College, George Williams College and the University of Chicago Business School. He worked as an accountant/office manager for various companies in and around Elgin. Never wanting to retire, he worked for H&R; Block during tax season for many years, and then for the City of Elgin.
Earl was active in many civic, religious, political and fraternal organizations, including the Jaycees, Kiwanis and served on the board of directors of the Northern Kane County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. He served on the Elgin City Council from 1965 to 1972 and the Gail Borden Public Library Board from 1989 to 19995. He also served on various other boards and commissions for the city.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elgin and served on many committees and boards throughout the years.
An avid handball player, he won many local and state tournaments, and was active in the YMCA of Elgin, working on committees that included building and membership.
Active in the Democratic Party, he was one of those instrumental in bringing presidential candidates Adlai E. Stevenson and John F. Kennedy to speak in Elgin.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Miriam E. (Toothaker) Tillery; two sons, Kenneth Tillery and friend Jan Escola, and Adrian (Joanne) Tillery; a daughter Bonnie Tillery and husband Joseph Leist; five granddaughters, Judith (Kurt) Buchardt, Ellen, Sarah, Laura and Heather Tillery; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald Tillery, who was lost while serving as a fighter pilot in World War II, and a sister, Helen Caughey Frost.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003,in the First Baptist Church, 1735 W. Highland Ave., Elgin, with the Rev. Mike Frantz officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be at the time of services only.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Earl's name to the Salvation Army Golden Diners, 316 Douglas Ave., Elgin, IL 60120; Gail Borden Public Library, 200 N. Grove Ave., Elgin, IL 60120; or the First Baptist Church.

Lois J. Williams
Lois J. Williams, 70, of Necedah, WI died Sunday, February 9, 2003 at the Mile Bluff Medical Center, Mauston, WI. She was born May 7, 1932 to Charles and Neva Koehnke in Elgin, IL.
Her children survive her: Charles (Julie) Utz of Ixonia, WI, Deborah (Richard) Gersch of LaPorte, IN, Jamie Hedmark of Streamwood, IL, Marsha (David) Thoren of Elgin, IL, Jodie (John) Driscoll of Elgin, IL, Sallie (Garey) Martinson of Necedah, WI and Peggie (Chris) Loeffler of Wake Forest, NC. Two sisters: Ruby (Lee) Warnke of Colorado and Joy (Duke) Eagle of Elgin, IL, 20 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gordon and Darwin Koehnke.
Lois had a great love for her children, grandchildren and her cat, Thomas. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Torkelson Necedah Family Funeral Home in Necedah, WI. Friends and family may call on Thursday from 5 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
Graveside services will take place on Friday, February 14 at 2 p.m. at Bluff City cemetery, Elgin, IL.

Robert "Bob" E. Barrett
Robert "Bob" E. Barrett, 75, of Aurora passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at his daughter's home in North Aurora after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 1, 1929 in Sugar Grove, the son of the late LeRoy and Alma (Schingoethe) Barrett.
Bob was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the St. Paul's Men's Club and served as an elder at church. He was a graduate of West Aurora High School, a U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce and was an avid golfer. Mr. Barrett has owned and operated Barrett Soft Water in Montgomery since 1952.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Grace M. Barrett of Aurora, with whom he would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on February 15; his two daughters: Patricia (Ralph) Mitchell and Cathleen (Michael) Elliott, both of N. Aurora; six grandchildren: Matthew (Rebecca) Potts of Oswego, Alysha and LaRi Mitchell, Stacie and Tyler Rohlwing and Mackey Elliott all of N. Aurora; two great granddaughters: Julia and Natalie Potts both of Oswego; three brothers: Donald Barrett of Harvard, IL, John Barrett of AZ and Paul (Helen) Barrett of Oswego; three sisters: Ruth Knoke of AZ, Esther (Jim) Spitz and Helen (Ralph) Gabrielson both of Aurora; one uncle: Herb (Martha) Schingoethe of Aurora and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Mr. Barrett will be held on Friday, February 13, 2004 at the Dieterle Memorial Home from 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 14 at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Orchard Campus, 85 S. Constitution Drive, Aurora. Pastor Tom Sayre and Pastor Jock Ficken will officiate with interment in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery in Montgomery. Mr. Barrett will lie in state at church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at 10 a.m.

Juan "John" Jose Cantu
Juan "John" Jose Cantu, 45, of West Chicago died February 8 in his home. Juan was born November 24, 1958 in McAllen, Texas and has lived in West Chicago for the last 20 years where he was a self-employed painter.
He is survived by two children, Jennifer (Joseph) Kendle, Jon "Jake" (Jemnifer) Cantu; his mother, Trinidad Cantu; his grandmother, grandmother Sofia Escobedo; five brothers, Ricardo (Kathy), Michael, Edward (Michelle), Albert (Juanita) Cantu, and Robert Gonzales; a sister, Norma (Joe) Brennan; five nieces; three nephews; eternal friends Susan Flemming and Craig Bobwiec.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nicoles Cantu; and his grandfather. Jose Escobedo.

Eugene E. Stemwedel
Eugene E. Stemwedel, 62, of Elgin passed away suddenly Friday, February 6, 2004 at his home. He was born June 9, 1941 in Elgin, Illinois, the son of Elmer and Muriel King Stemwedel. He had been a resident of Elgin all his life and had lived in Eagle Heights for 42 years. He had been employed by C & R Industries in Elgin for 45 years as a tool and die maker.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Elgin. He was a member of the I.O.O. F and Rebekahs. He was active in Boy Scouts with Troop 10, the Hiawatha Dancers and was an Eagle Scout and a loyal member of the Order of The Arrow. He was Former President of Local 221 and Joint Board Manager. He helped spearhead the DARE Program.
Survivors include his son-Emmet E. (Carol) Stemwedel of Elgin; two grandchildren-Jillian and Brandon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife-Evelyn Niemeier Stemwedel in 2002.
Memorial services will be held Friday, February 13 at 12:00 NOON at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Elgin with Rev. Thomas O'Connor officiating. The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs will conduct services during the memorial services. Burial will be private in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
Margaret Mary "Mara" (Schafer) Zoellick
Margaret Mary "Mara" (Schafer) Zoellick, 46, of Menahga, MN., was welcomed into God's hands after a valiant battle with cancer on January 31, 2004.
She is survived by her loving husband, Steven Lloyd Zoellick; daughter, Stephanie Margaret (Steven) Domski and grandson, Tristan Steven Domski, all of Menahga, MN; her mother, Regina Galaher; sisters, Mary (John) Maier and Yvonne (Steven) Xagas; brothers, William (Sylvia) Schafer, John (Felecia) Schafer, James Schafer, Joseph (Debi) Schafer, Thomas (Betsy) Schafer, Brian (Anita) Melody; her loving in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in her journey by her father, Clayton S. Schafer; and step-father, Marshall R. Galaher.
Mara was a kind and gentle soul who had a smile and concern for everyone she met. Her love of people, sense of humor and caring manner made her the light of her family's life. We miss her dearly.
A Celebration of her life will take place at 2:00 PM Friday, February 20, 2004 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Crystal Lake, IL., followed by a gathering at the LaBahn-Hain House, 149 Hilltop Drive in Lake in the Hills, IL.

Harold E. Krepel
Harold E. Krepel, 86, of Elgin, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2006 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born on January 21, 1920 in Round Lake, IL, and was the son of Paul and Carrie Krepel.
Harold served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a truck driver. He was an avid roller skater and bowler and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his three children, Nancy (Bob) Kelso of Johnsburg, IL, Paul (Candace) Krepel of WI, and Ray Krepel of Macomb, IL; five grandchildren, Matthew, Ryann, Scott, Kate, and Mark; two sisters, Henrietta Peters of TX and Viola Horn of Elgin. He is also survived by a nephew, Charles (Helen) Fox of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Angeline in 2003; his brother, William Krepel; and his sister, Fern Phillips.

Mr. Raymond R. Schumacher "Shoes"
Mr. Raymond R. Schumacher, age 76, of Markesan, WI, died Wednesday, February 8, 2006, unexpectedly at Ripon Medical Center. Ray was born on February 1, 1930 in Chicago, the son of Louis and Madeline Pieper Schumacher.
Ray attended Dundee High School, after which he joined the U.S. Navy. On September 2, 1950, he married
Nancy Van Osdel in Dundee, IL. Shoes was a lifelong Tree Surgeon working for Davey Tree in Dundee and the last 10 years for Commonwealth Edison Customer Services. Ray enjoyed cooking and fishing. He was a member of the Electrical Workers Union Local #9.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Schumacher; a daughter, Sandra (Bill) Bauer of Hartland, WI; six sons, Raymond (Karen) Schumacher of Fox River Grove, IL, Robert Schumacher of Dundee, IL, William (Patty) Schumacher of Carpentersville, IL, Jerry (Patty) Schumacher of Stuart, FL, John Schumacher of Crystal Lake, IL, and Steve (Cathey) Schumacher of Green Lake, WI; 13 grandchildren, Paul, Steven, Aimee, Kristen, Adam, Kelsey, Ricky, Selena, Danielle, Brad, Carrie, Lindsey, and Leslie; three great-grandchildren, Jasmine, JaiLynn and Joey. Other relatives and many dear friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marlene; and two brothers, Roger and Lawrence.
Funeral Services will be 11:30 AM Friday, February 17, 2006 at the Wachholz Family Funeral Home in Markesan, with Rev. Robert Busse officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the services.

Lucille M. Gorman Stevens
Lucille M. Gorman Stevens, 72, of South Elgin, passed away Friday, February 9, 2001 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born December 12, 1928 in Elgin, the daughter of George and Frieda (Wiechert) Schlifer.
Survivors include her son, Daniel Gorman of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marion "Mickey" Szekeres
Marion "Mickey" Szekeres, 73 of Fort Atkinson, Wis., formerly of Carpentersville died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001 in the St. Mary's Hospital, Madison, Wis.
She was born on Dec. 7, 1927 in Chicago, the daughter of John and Anna Krips.
She was a 13 year resident of Fort Atkinson, Wis. and a former 29 year resident of Carpentersville.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Steven) Zaccard of Cottage Grove, Minn.; two sons, Michael J. of Phoenix, Ariz. and Thomas P. (Karen) of Carpentersville; a daughter-in-law, KatieSzekeres of Huntley; seven grandchildren, Chad, Jennifer, Brian, Beth, Jarrod, Megan and Michael; and three great-grandchildren, Katelyn Territo, Bradley and Kyle Szekeres.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter J. on May 24, 1994, they married
on June 25, 1949; a son, Peter J. on April 12, 1998; and three sisters, Florence, Annabelle and Margaret.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 12, 2001 in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Interment will follow in the Dundee Twp. East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m., Sunday in the funeral home.
Lorraine M. Bruening
Lorraine M. Bruening, 76, of East Dundee died Monday, February 9, 2004 at the Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Lorraine was born in East Dundee on December 6, 1927. She was the daughter of Ervin and Annabelle (nee Richardson) Plummer.
She was a life long resident of East Dundee and a life long member of St. James Episcopal Church, West Dundee.
She is survived by her daughter Susan (Randy) Nerge of East Dundee; two Granddaughters, Lori Ann (Tom) Wilson of Belvidere and Michele (Fiance' Scott Kasten) Nerge of Marengo; four Great Grandchildren, Matthew, Nickolas, Kristopher and Jackilynne; a Brother, Delwin "Buck" (Esther) Plummer of West Dundee. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert C. Bruening on May 1, 1987; her sister, Marjorie A. Kamp; her brothers, Lloyd, Gene, and Ervin Plummer.
Funeral Services will be on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. The Rev. James Swarthout, Rector of St. James Episcopal Church, West Dundee will officiate.
