Monica L. Moore-Viant
Monica L. Moore-Viant, 32, of Geneva passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2005 due to complications from diabetes.
Born on May 23, 1972 in Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. Monica's artistic talents emerged at an early age through creative writing and drawing.
As an elementary school student, Monica's writing was singled out for recognition both formally through literary contests and informally. Monica gravitated toward activities and coursework that provided a creative outlet during her years at Geneva High School She was an Honors English student and was selected to display works at the school's annual Arts Affair art show.
After graduating in 1990, Monica pursued a Fine Arts degree at Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb, IL. Her works in acrylic were characterized by large canvasses, blending of bold, bright colors, a demonstration of her tendency to "think big."
On December 4, 1999, Monica and Bret Eric Viant were married
in Batavia, IL. They lived in Batavia and recently moved to Geneva. She and Bret were devoted to their pet dogs, Lucy, Ollie and Augie.
Monica worked for a short time as a retail sales associate for L'eggs/Bally/Hanes and took a sales position with Gordon Flesch in 1998. She was very successful in her sales territory, earning participation in the company's vacation incentive program for the past five years in a row.
Monica always made time for the family and causes she was passionate about. For the past three years, Monica and Bret had been active with the Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora, a fundraising organization for the diabetes causes. Family celebrations, and events were always embellished with Monica's creative flair and attention to every detail. When it came to creating invitations or party agendas or selecting gifts for family, Monica never held back. Though it rarely took much convincing, she often roped her spouse into her over-the-top ideas.
"Every time we went shopping anywhere, we were in the baby section of the store buying something for her nieces," said Bret. "She was so creative with crafts, home or work projects. when
everyone else chose costumes like vampires for Halloween, Monica went as Little Bo Peep and I had to go as her sheep."
In addition to Bret, her husband of five years, and her dogs, Lucy and Augie, Monica is survived by parents, Penny and Glen Moore, Geneva; sister and brother-in-law, Amber (Moore) Molander and Brett Molander, Geneva; sister and brother-in-law, Natalie (Moore) and Chris Julian, St. Charles; brother, Gregg Moore, Warrenville; nieces, Lauren and Maren Elise Molander; maternal grandmother, Juanita Bowling, Batavia, and Paternal grandmother, Cleone Moore, Dadeville, Ala.
She is preceded in death by her dog, Ollie; and grandfathers, Charles Bowling and Chester Moore.
Monica's expressiveness characterized her work more than a favoritism for any subject matter and her gifts of artwork color the homes of family and friends. Just as her "larger than life" canvasses consume significant display space, memories of Monica's emotion, vision and talent will continue to fill open space in the hearts and minds of those who love her. Donations in Monica's memory can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in lieu of flowers. or, Monica's family will accept contributions to fund a scholarship for NIU art students that will be established in her memory.
Visitation from 9-11 AM TODAY at the Yurs Whittenberg Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St., Geneva. Funeral will be private. (630)232-7337
