Dr. John B. Johnson, D.D.S.
Dr. John B. Johnson, an Elgin dentist for nearly 50 years, a member of the staff at St. Joseph Hospital since 1971, and the author of a book entitled "In the Beginning", died Thursday, February 7, 2002 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born in Wilmington, IL and raised in Oak Park. Dr. Johnson graduated from Ripon College in 1943 and from Northwestern University Dental School in 1946. He volunteered for service in the Korean War, and while on his second hitch of military duty as a U.S. Army Captain and Dental Clinic Commander in Germany in the early 1950's, he met his wife, Ingeborg. Dr. Johnson loved practicing dentistry, and was practicing semi-retired with his son, Michael, until the time he took ill this year.
He was a member of the Golden Gloves, as well as a student in the famed pilot Steve Whitman's first flight school in Oshkosh, Wis. He also maintained an avid enthusiasm for motorcycling all of his life.
He was a member of the American Dental Association, The Fox Valley Dental Association, VFW Post 1307 of Elgin and American Legion Post 57 of Elgin.
He was a devout Christian and believer in the mission of the Episcopal Church. An extremely original and active thinker, Dr. Johnson was featured several times by the Elgin Courier News newspaper for his plan to build a tunnel from North America to Europe, and for his definition of gravity and theories of meteorological phenomena.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ingeborg; six loving sons, Dr. John B. (Joanee) Johnson D.C. of Geneva, Robert F. Johnson of Chicago, Dr. Michael D. (Kiyo) Johnson D.D.S. of Elgin, Timothy C. Johnson of Chicago, David J. Johnson of Elgin and Dr. Matthew J. Johnson D.P.M. of Schaumburg; grandchildren, Jeremy, Stephanie and Mikiyo; and a brother, James Johnson of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jane Johnson; and a daughter, Dobbie.
Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, February 12 at 11 AM at St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Church, 36W957 Highland, Elgin. John will be buried in his family's ancestral plot at the Oak Lawn cemetery, Wilmington, IL.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 11 from 5 to 8 PM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.

Richard H. Miller, Sr.
Richard H. Miller, Sr., 90, of Elgin passed away Thursday, February 7, 2002 in Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. He was born October 6, 1911 in Dayton, OH and was the son of Lusious and Margaret (Kneisley) Miller.
Richard was employed with the Morris Paper Co. of Morris, IL and Bates Packaging Co., of Chicago, IL for many years prior to his retirement. He resided in Morris, IL, Palatine, IL and retired to Sun City, AZ. Richard returned to the Midwest in 1999. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Elgin.
He is survived by two children, Richard H. (Joanna) Miller, Jr. of Aurora, CO, William (Carol) Miller of Elgin, IL; three step-children, John (Sydney) Vivian of Gilbert, AZ, Joanne (Jerry) Mugavero of Harwinton, CT and Jean Ledford of Littleton, CO; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two brothers, Bill and Robert Miller; and one sister, Dorothy Durdan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Helen DeVanny Miller in 1972, his second wife Mary Vivian Miller in 1993 and one brother Jack Miller.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 11, 2002 at 11:30 am, in the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Elgin with Rev. Edward Seisser officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-8:00 pm in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, and on Monday starting at 11:00 am until the time of services in the church. Kenneth E. Williams
Mr. Kenneth E. Williams, 80, of Pittsfield and formerly of California, MO, died Saturday, February 9, 2002 at his home in Pittsfield.
He was born on July 25, 1921 in Moniteau County near California, MO, the son of Edgar and Maude Swerigen Williams. He married
Mary Leahy July 5, 1944 in Stowe-on-the-wold, England and she preceded him in death. He served in the Special Forces Division, U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He worked as a Sales Manager for Wilson Meat Packing, Frigo Cheese Co, and Tate Cheese Co. in Valley City, IL until retirement.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Burkot of Elk Grove Village, IL and Sue Foster of Elgin, IL; four grandchildren, Jennifer Burkot of Carthage Collage in Kenosha, WI, Bridget Burkot of Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, Victor Foster, Elgin Community College, Elgin, IL and Robert Foster at Emory University, Atlanta, GA.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 1 PM in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at California, MO. Friends may call from noon Tuesday until the time of Services. Friends may also call Monday from 4 to 8 PM at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Military graveside Rites will be accorded at the Mt. Pleasant cemetery, California, MO by the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Detail.

Nancy Gordon Brandt
Nancy Gordon Brandt, 62, died Friday, February 6, 2004 at her home. She was born in Joliet, IL and was a retired Special Education Teacher with So. Whitley Elementary School for 22 years.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Pi Lambda Theta, Phi Delta Kappa, Red Hat Society, Learning Disabilities Association and was named the 1997 Teacher of the Year by the Learning Disability Association of Indiana.
Survivors include her husband, Charles C. Brandt; a son, Charles C. Brandt III (Kathy) of Carmel, IN; daughters, Elizabeth G. Brandt and Leslie B. Small (Andrew) of Chicago, IL; a brother, Robert Gordon of Upland, CA; a sister, Betty Collins of Geneva, IL; grandchildren, Anna and Elizabeth.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Patrick Gordon.

Juan Jose Cantu
Juan Jose Cantu, 45, of West Chicago died February 8 in his home. Juan was born November 24, 1958 in McAllen, Texas and has lived in West Chicago for the last 20 years where he was a self-employed painter.
He is survived by two children, Jennifer (Joseph) Kendle, Jon "Jake" (Jennifer) Cantu; his grandmother, Sofia Escobedo; five brothers, Ricardo (Kathy), Michael, Edward (Michelle), Albert (Juanita) Cantu, and Robert Gonzales; a sister, Norma (Joe) Brennan; five nieces; three nephews; eternal friends Susan Flemmnig and Craig Bobwiec.
He was preceded in death his father, Nicoles Cantu.

Leslie Funk
Leslie Funk, 89, of Palm Harbor, FL, formerly of Elgin, died Friday, February 6, 2004. Born in Knox, IN, he moved to Florida about 20 years ago after retiring as a watch maker for Elgin National Watch Company, after 41 years of service. A graduate of Elgin High School, Class of 1933 and a U.S. Army Veteran serving in W.W.II, member American Legion Post #57, a past board member and member of Zion Lutheran Church of Elgin. Leslie was very active in Elgin's Little League and an active golfer both in Elgin and in Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Fern; two sons, James of Charleston, NC and Richard of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Julie Ash and Andrew Funk, both of Denver, CO, and Christina Lawrence of Portland, OR.

Walter Herman Geske
Walter Herman Geske, 91, of Whitewater, Wis., formerly of Elgin passed away Sunday, February 8, 2004 at Fairhaven Retirement Community, Whitewater. He was born September 21, 1912 in Fall Creek, Wisconsin the son of Henry and Emilie Stlter Geske.
Walter worked at the A & P Grocery Store in Elgin. He married
Catherine Schroeder Leanna on Oct. 23, 1986.
He owned a summer home in Eagle River, Wis. and enjoyed his time fishing in Wisconsin. He was an avid Muskie and Walleye fisherman, and a self taught taxidermist. He had numerous fish mounts in his home.
He was a 50 year member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 799 of Elgin.
Surviving are his wife Catherine, daughter M.K. Bradshaw of Elgin, son Ronald (Peggy) Geske of Florissant, Colo. Three granddaughters; Katrina Schroeder of Elgin, Beth Geske of Security, Colo. and Michelle Payne of Colorado Springs, Colo. Five great-grandchildren; Natasha, Joseph, Tiffany, Kendra and Kasside. Step son Raymond (Shirley) Leanna of Palmyra, Wis. Step daughter Karen (Larry) Magnuson of Cameron, Wis. Five step grandchildren; Randy (Anne) Leanna, Sheri (Mike) Peardon, Mary Leanna, Ron (Hope) Rendell and Rich Rendell and 13 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a twin brother, Henry at birth and five sisters.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004 at 12:00 NOON at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Woodstock. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services in the funeral home.

Gertrude Rohlwing, 88, of Elgin passed away Saturday, February 7, 2004 at Rosewood Health Care. She was born on April 22, 1915 in Des Plaines, IL , the daughter of Gustav and Anna Michehl Kerschke

Viola Anna Minnie Lydia Schmuggerow, age 73, of Garden Prairie, Illinois died Saturday afternoon in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after a long illness. Viola was born October 2, 1930 in Bensenville, Illinois, the daughter of Otto and Emma (Zars) Gehrke. She married
Raymond F. Schmuggerow on August 21, 1954 in Bensenville. Viola was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Belvidere, Illinois.
Survivors include her children, Carol (Milt) Dittbenner of Belvidere, Wayne (Wanda) Schmuggerow of Garden Prairie, Illinois, Kevin (Darla) Schmuggerow of Atlanta, Georgia, Brian (Chris) Schmuggerow of Capron, Illinois; grandchildren, Craig, Kimberly, Jennifer, Steven, Pamela, Jessica, Todd, Tyler Schmuggerow and Megan Dittbenner; sisters, Paula Rosenwinkle of Marengo, IL, Mildred Winkleman of Plato Center, IL, and Ann (Edwin) Meiers of Crystal Lake, IL.

Audrey J. Wilkerson
Audrey J. Wilkerson, 72, of South Elgin passed away Sunday, February 8, 2004 at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. She was born September 27, 1931 in Dahlgren, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Mary DeWitt Aydt. She had been a resident of the South Elgin area for 43 years and was employed at the Elgin Mental Health Care Center for 30 years as a Dental Assistant and Pharmacy Technician before retiring.
She attended First Baptist Church of Elgin. She was very active in church activities, the Elgin Senior Center, and she loved to travel.
Surviving are her daughter, Andrea Sue Wilkerson of South Elgin; her son, Roger (Carol) Wilkerson of South Elgin; seven grandchildren, Fred (Denise) Wick, Denise (Keith) Brins, Tresa Rose Wick, Jacob (Jennifer) Wilkerson, Rebecca (Richard) Jordan, Wesley Wilkerson, and Jordan Wilkerson; six great-grandchildren; her mother, Mary Rado Travelstead of Murphysboro, IL; a sister, Wilma (Rex) Messersmith; two brothers, Roger (Barbara) Aydt and Stan (Judy) Aydt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn O. Wilkerson; two sons, Randy Wilkerson and Michael Wilkerson; and her father.

Frank P. Aniballi, 93, of Crystal Lake died Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
He was born in Dundee on June 8, 1912 the son of Gust and Mary (Brunetti) Aniballi. He married
Joyce Wiese in 1972 in Wayne, IL.
He had worked at D. Hill Nursery for many years beginning at the age of 7. He worked with his brother at a gas station in Dundee and spent many years at Toastmaster and Haeger Pottery. His last employment was at Flowerwood in Crystal Lake where he worked for 27 years until his retirement in 1977.
He is survived his wife, Joyce of Crystal Lake; his son, Douglas (Patti) Aniballi of Lombard; two grandchildren, Deborah (Jeff) Kinney of Lombard and David (Laura) Aniballi of Darien; five great grandchildren, Steven, Matthew, Jeremy, Joshua and Jessica; and his sister, Mary Bond of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Adino, Arthur, Orfeo and Joseph; and his brother-in-law, Dr. Stewart Bond.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 11 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake from 10 AM until the time of the memorial service at 12 Noon with Rev. Arn Schaper will officiate. Inurnment will be in Dundee Township cemetery in Dundee.

Elinor J. Engelking
Elinor J. Engelking, age 79 of Elgin, died Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born in Elgin September 5, 1926, the daughter of George and Minnie (Kramer) Van Kirk. On June 1, 1945 she married
Edward F. Engelking. Elinor had been employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Co. as an operator for several more years and became a business office representative for the company for several years until her retirement. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Surviving are three sons, David (Juli) of Hampshire, Dale (Jan) of Plato Center, Douglas (Audrey) of Sycamore; a daughter, Debra Foster of Elgin; a brother, Richard Van Kirk of Round Lake, IL; seven grandchildren, Josh, Emily, Becky and Kelly Engelking, Amy McAulet, Heather Turner and Eric Foster; six great-grandchildren, Chuck Turner, Elinor, Hattie, Mitchell, Alzayda and Emmett McAuley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward on September 23, 2003; a grandson, Patrick; and three sisters, Melva Grimshaw, Mary Lou Catavu and Charlene Hardt.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 11 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 535 N. McLean Blvd., Elgin. Rev. James E. Fandrey, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Wait-Ross Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel, Elgin, and on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until time of the service at the church.
