Francis E. Throw, PhD
Francis E. Throw, PhD, 88, of Evanston, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001.
He was born Oct. 4, 1912 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was a Physicist at Fermilab.
Survivors include a son, Edward Throw of Elgin; a daughter, Carol (Larry) McCoy of Naperville; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Volena (nee Lochner) and a daughter, Jeannette Bacon.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2001 at Elliott Chapel, Presbyterian Homes, 3131 Simpson St., Evanston.

Henry L. Uteg
Henry L. Uteg, 75, of East Dundee died Sunday, April 15, 2001 in his home.
He was born in Dundee on April 25, 1925 the son of Henry and Charlotte Uteg.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of East Dundee. A 1943 graduate of Dundee Community High School, he received a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin in Mechanical Engineering. He was a licensed civil engineer and founded Henry L. Uteg & Assoc. in 1957. Henry was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was active in local Republican politics. Later he was a member of the Elgin Minuteman of Harmony.
Survivors include two daughters,Kathryn Edwards of Dundee and Laurel (Andy) Engelmann of Elgin; three sons, Robert (Molly) of Nashville, Tenn., Mark (Nancy) of Wheaton and John of Elgin; nine grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Marilyn) of Springfield, Ill.; a nephew, William Henry Uteg of San Diego, Calif. and his dear friend and partner, Faye Blake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald P. "Sugar" Uteg.
Memorial funeral services will be 7 p.m., Wednesday in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of East Dundee, the Rev. William P. Yonker officiating. Burial will be private.
Family will receive friends from 5 p.m., Wednesday until the time of services in the church. Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran 2000 Fund or Hospice of Northeastern Illinois.
Elvera A. Wente
Elvera A. Wente, 81, of Elgin, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, April 16, 2001 in St. Louis, Mo.
She was born April 8, 1920, the daughter of William and Emilie (Kruse) Heim in Schaumburg.
On May 11, 1947 she married
David G. Wente in Elgin. She retired as an Insurance Clerk at Sherman Hospital in 1986. She had worked at Grayline, Inc. and was very proud of her work as a legal secretary for Judge A.J. Strickman. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for 68 years and served in the church nursery for 35 years.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, David G. Wente of Elgin; children, Wayne (Doris) Wente of Seymour, Ind., Sandy (Jim) Lehn of St. Louis, Mo., Merri (Duane) Chapman of Columbia, Mo. and Lorie Mellen of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Rachel Chaney, Laura Wente, Allen Wente, Linda Ranken, Matthew Mellen, Emily Mellen, Betsy Lehn, Greg Lehn, Robby Lehn, Caleb Chapman, Nikia Chapman and Haley Chapman; great-grandchildren, Becky, Connor and Miles; and two sisters, Margaret Riedl of Hampshire and Adell (Ira) Reeves of Murphysboro, Ill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Delores and son-in-law (Ed) Ranken; a sister, Lorraine Helm; a brother, Clifford Alwin; and two granddaughters in infancy, Sonya Mellen and Rebecca Vessels.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at O'Connor and Homeier Funeral Home, 364 E. Division St., Elgin from 2-8 p.m. and on Thursday, April 19, 2001 at 9 a.m. until the time of services at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Memorial may be made in her name to the church or Sherman Hospital.
Edward H. Werner
Edward H. Werner, 84, of Elgin passed away, Sunday, April 15, 2001 in his home.
He was born May 5, 1916 in Elgin, the son of Emil and Elizabeth Volkening Werner.
He had been a resident of Elgin all of his life and was a graduate of Elgin High School Class of 1935. He was employed by Shakeproof Division of Illinois Tool Works for 32 years before retiring as Shipping Supervisor. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Elgin.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Henrietta Lichthardt Werner, whom he married
on Oct. 14, 1939 in Schaumburg; two daughters, Judith (Gerald) Behnke of Elgin and Janet Werner of South Elgin; a son, Rev. James (Nancy) Werner of New Holstein, Wis.; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Emmert, Jeffrey (Lesley) Behnke, Megan, Mary, Melissa and Melanie Werner; two great-grandchildren, Allison and Tyler Behnke; and a sister, Irene Werner of Elgin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Null.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday in the St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Elgin, the Rev. Thomas O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Tuesday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services in the church.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Elgin or the American Cancer Society.
Carl Frederick Blomsterberg
Carl Frederick Blomsterberg, 94, of East Dundee died Monday, April 15, 2002 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was born in Kolding, Jutland, Denmark on October 24, 1907. He was the son of Carl G. and Anna (nee Ravn) Blomsterberg.
He was a 32 year resident of the Dundee area. Carl was a Master Chef by trade and is well renowned within the Restaurant and Food Industry. During World War II he was employed by the United States Navy and survived the attack of Pearl Harbor. He was very active in Masonic Life. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Member of the Al-Malaikah Temple in Los Angeles.
He is survived by three sons, Carl G. (Nin) of East Dundee, Ken (Rosie) of Sacramento, CA and Jan (Judy) of Los Angeles, CA; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Cooper of Torrence, CA; eight grandchildren, Michael (Rhett), David (Tammy), Carl (Stacie), Joanna, Kimberly, Sven, Michele, Kristin and Josh; five great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Trevor, Brittany, Patrick and Destiny; also a brother, Svend Blomsterberg of Copenhagen, Denmark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice; three sisters, Elsa, Ida and Anna; also a brother, Viggo.
Funeral services will be on Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Friday from Noon until time of services.
Marilou (Van Kirk) Catavu
Marilou (Van Kirk) Catavu, 71, of Elgin. passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at her home. Born March 15, 1931 in Elgin, the daughter of George and Minnie Kramer Van Kirk. She had been a resident of Elgin all her life and a former dispatcher for U46 for over 35 years.
She is survived by a son, Stanley (Kathy) Catavu of Elgin; three daughters, Judith Catavu-Richert of Elgin, Stacey Catavu of Elgin and Stephanie (Christopher) Bolliger of Carpentersville; seven grandchildren, Lisa Dublino, Troy (Samantha) Catavu, Dusty Pierrucini, Julie Catavu, Tasha Catavu, Lee Catavu and Christopher (Jenni) Catavu; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elinor (Edward) Engelking of Elgin; a brother, Richard Van Kirk of Grayslake; also a brother-in-law, Peter Hardt of Juneau, WI.
preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Melva Grimshaw and Charlene Hardt; also a son-in-law, Richard Richert.
Funeral services Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at Stout-Madison Funeral Home, 252 S. State St., Elgin. Burial private. Visitation Friday, 5 to 9:00 P.M. at Stout-Madison Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
Robert E. Dove
Robert E. Dove, 50, of Elgin died Monday, April 15, 2002 at Sherman Hospital. He was born in Mt. Vernon, IL on March 7, 1952, the son of Kenneth and Doris Dove. He was a protestant.
He is survived by a half brother, Larry (Sharon) Shaw of Wayne City, IL; a half sister, Louise Storment of Elgin; an uncle, Keith (Bernice) Dove of Fairfield, IL; a cousin, Sharon Dove of Fairfield, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be no visitation. Grave side services will be held at Bluff City cemetery, Thursday, April 18, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. Arrangements are entrusted to O'Connor & Homeier Funeral Home, (847)741-1400.
Melvin Gundersen
Melvin Gundersen, 76, of Carpentersville died Monday, April 15, 2002 at his home. He was born in Chicago on August 2, 1925. He was the son of Gus and Katrina (nee Petersen) Gundersen. He was a resident of the area for over 41 years. He was a W.W. II Navy Veteran and a member of Carpentersville VFW 5915.
He is survived by two daughters, Sally (Dennis) Jennetten of Georgia and Melody A. (Tom) Korcal of Carpentersville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Gordon (Edith) Gundersen of Addison.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-9 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home.
Marie D. Hlava
Marie D. Hlava, 82, of Elgin passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Carrington Care Center, South Elgin. She was born May 19, 1920 in Steeleville, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Ora Badgely. She had been a resident of the Elgin area since 1992.
Surviving are two daughters: Barbara (John) Vaulato of Elgin and Marilyn Schaffner of Madison, IL; a son, Terry (Diane) Stawar of Georgetown, IN; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Raymond Stawar, in 1968; her second husband, William Hlava, in 1991; and a son, Norman Stawar, in 1987.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:15 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home to St. Laurence Catholic Church for mass at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services in the funeral home.
Marian G. Kelahan
Marian G. Kelahan, 70, of Crystal Lake, IL, passed away Monday in Sherman Hospital. She was born March 7, 1932 in Fond Du Lac, WI and was the daughter of George and Gertrude Schultz.
She is survived by her husband, John Kelahan of Crystal Lake, IL; two children, Michael Kelahan of Crystal Lake, IL and Maureen (Jerry) Curran of Algonquin, IL; two grandchildren, Colin and Alexa Kelahan; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 South Third St., (Corner of Third and Oregon), West Dundee, IL 847-836-8770. Burial will be in Algonquin cemetery, Algonquin, IL. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, West Dundee, and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services in the funeral home.
Helmuth H. "Hal" Luepke
Helmuth H. "Hal" Luepke, 83, of Sleepy Hollow died Monday, April 15, 2002 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born in Courtland, Minnesota on March 18, 1919, the son of Gustav and Martha (nee Hoerrman) Luepke.
Hal attended St. John Lutheran School in Elgin and Elgin High School. In his younger days, he worked for the A and P Grocery Store and Homes Dairy both in Elgin. He was a 31 year employee of the Internal Revenue Service in the Chicago District retiring in 1975. Following retirement from the I.R.S., he worked at Gromer's Supermarket in Elgin where he worked as one of the store managers. In his final career, he worked with his daughter in the book department at the Target Stores of Elgin and West Dundee. He was a World War II Army veteran. He earned the rank of Corporal and served in the European Theater of operations under General Patton. During the service, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart, the Infantry Men's Combat Medal and the Battle Star. He was a long time member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Elgin.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy A. "Dottie" (nee Foster) Luepke. They married
on July 8, 1950; two daughters, Claudette A. (Karl) Gust and Sharon E. (John) Bero both of Elgin; five grandchildren, Pamela Olson, Jeffrey Bero, Brian Bero, Brogan Gust and Chantel Gust; six great grandchildren, Dru Olson, Kelly Olson, Ashley Bero, Taylor Bero, Eva Bero and Ainslee Bero; two brothers, Albert Luepke of Peoria and Irvin Luepke of Saybrook, Illinois. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gerhard, Waldemar and Elmer Luepke; one sister, Renata Schuett; and one great-grandchild Peyton Bero.
Funeral Services will be on Friday at 11 AM in the Calvary Lutheran Church of Elgin or Little Angels Nursing Home of Elgin. with the Rev. Richard Bellas officiating. Burial will be in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee on Thursday from 6 to 9 PM and on Friday in the church from 10 AM until time of service.
