Lora L. (Kellum) Donovan
Lora L. (Kellum) Donovan, 46, of St. Charles, formerly of Elgin, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2002 in Sherman Hospital. She was born January 21, 1956 in Elgin and was the daughter of Richard and Jean (Pryde) Kellum.
Lora had worked for AT & T for 23 years. She had attended the Fox Valley Christian Church of Batavia, IL.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel Donovan of St. Charles, IL; four children, Matthew (Danielle) Romero of South Elgin, IL, Jeremy Romero of St. Charles, IL, Angela Richter and Michael Richter both of St. Charles, IL; two step-children Bill and Melanie Donovan of Evergreen Park, IL; one granddaughter Kayla Estes of South Elgin, IL; her mother Jean (Thomas) Carrick of Elgin; sister Kathy (Tony) Kellum Szpekowski of Aurora, IL; two nieces Jennifer (Joe) Kendle and Alison Musaraca and one nephew Jake Cantu.
She was preceded in death by her father Richard Kellum and Grand Parents Paul and Ruth Pryde.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 11, 2002 at 10:00 am in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-9 pm in the Funeral Home. For information please call 1-847-741-8800.

Walter A. Filson
Age 82, of Poplar Grove, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2002. He was born on January 4, 1920 in Castalia, OH to Jesse and Mary (Mears) Filson.
Walter married Eva Robertson on April 7, 1951 in Chicago. He was a Letter Sorter for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. He was also in the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific during WWII.
Walter is survived by his wife, Eva; three daughters, Mary (David) Butts of Genoa, Helen Minnick of Loves Park and Gayle Heckel of Garfield, AR; one son, Thomas (Janice) McPhillips of Poplar Grove; three sisters, Virginia Stawick of Joliet, Harriet Bryant of Joliet and Marion (Robert) Mitchell of Tucson, AZ. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, February 11, 2002 in the Chapel of Memories in Highland Garden of Memories, 9700 Route 76, Belvidere, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Heart Association would be appreciated. Arrangements made by:

Dr. John B. Johnson, D.D.S.
Dr. John B. Johnson, an Elgin dentist for nearly 50 years, a member of the staff at St. Joseph Hospital since 1971, and the author of a book entitled "In the Beginning", died Thursday, February 7, 2002 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born in Wilmington, IL and raised in Oak Park. Dr. Johnson graduated from Ripon College in 1943 and from Northwestern University Dental School in 1946. He volunteered for service in the Korean War, and while on his second hitch of military duty as a U.S. Army Captain and Dental Clinic Commander in Germany in the early 1950's, he met his wife, Ingeborg. Dr. Johnson loved practicing dentistry, and was practicing semi-retired with his son, Michael, until the time he took ill this year.
He was a member of the Golden Gloves, as well as a student in the famed pilot Steve Whitman's first flight school in Oshkosh, Wis. He also maintained an avid enthusiasm for motorcycling all of his life.
He was a member of the American Dental Association, The Fox Valley Dental Association, VFW Post 1307 of Elgin and American Legion Post 57 of Elgin.
He was a devout Christian and believer in the mission of the Episcopal Church. An extremely original and active thinker, Dr. Johnson was featured several times by the Elgin Courier News newspaper for his plan to build a tunnel from North America to Europe, and for his definition of gravity and theories of meteorological phenomena.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ingeborg; six loving sons, Dr. John B. (Joanee) Johnson D.C. of Geneva, Robert F. Johnson of Chicago, Dr. Michael D. (Kiyo) Johnson D.D.S. of Elgin, Timothy C. Johnson of Chicago, David J. Johnson of Elgin and Dr. Matthew J. Johnson D.P.M. of Schaumburg; grandchildren, Jeremy, Stephanie and Mikiyo; and a brother, James Johnson of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jane Johnson; and a daughter, Dobbie.
Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, February 12 at 11 AM at St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Church, 36W957 Highland, Elgin. John will be buried in his family's ancestral plot at the Oak Lawn cemetery, Wilmington, IL.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 11 from 5 to 8 PM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 Hager Ave, Barrington, IL, 60010.

William Gary Martin
William Gary Martin, age 55, of Longwood, FL passed away Thursday, February 7, 2002. He was born in Santa Monica, CA and moved to Elgin, IL in 1993.
He was employed for the Highway Maintenance, Department of Transportation, Illinois. He was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Longwood, FL. He was also a member of the Elgin Choral Union, Elgin, Illinois and was an Accomplished Singer.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Martin of Longwood, FL; one daughter Natalie Martin of Longwood, FL and one son David Martin of South Elgin, IL.

Richard H. Miller, Sr.
Richard H. Miller, Sr., 90, of Elgin passed away Thursday, February 7, 2002 in Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. He was born October 6, 1911 in Dayton, OH and was the son of Lusious and Margaret (Kneisley) Miller.
Richard was employed with the Morris Paper Co. of Morris, IL and Bates Packaging Co., of Chicago, IL for many years prior to his retirement. He resided in Morris, IL, Palatine, IL and retired to Sun City, AZ. Richard returned to the Midwest in 1999. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Elgin.
He is survived by two children, Richard H. (Joanna) Miller, Jr. of Aurora, CO, William (Carol) Miller of Elgin, IL; three step-children, John (Sydney) Vivian of Gilbert, AZ, Joanne (Jerry) Mugavero of Harwinton, CT and Jean Ledford of Littleton, CO; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two brothers, Bill and Robert Miller; and one sister, Dorothy Durdan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Helen DeVanny Miller in 1972, his second wife Mary Vivian Miller in 1993 and one brother Jack Miller.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 11, 2002 at 11:30 am, in the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Elgin with Rev. Edward Seisser officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-8:00 pm in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, and on Monday starting at 11:00 am until the time of services in the church. Marilise Helene Zak
Marilise Helene Zak, age 91 of Elgin passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at Heritage Manor, Elgin. She was born October 14, 1910 in Elgin the daughter of Karel J. and Ellen Rigoulott Zak.
Marilise had been a resident of Elgin all of her life. She was a graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in Journalism. She received a Master's in Education from Northern Illinois University. She taught French for many years in the Palatine school district before retiring. She was a great lover of animals and supported many animal charities. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elgin. Her father was head of the art department at Cook Publishing Co. in Elgin and was an accomplished painter and illustrator. Her mother was a native of France.
She is survived by her dear friends: Dorothy Johnson of Huntley and Oscar Gonzales of Brownsville, Texas and many others.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a dear friend Helen Casson.
Memorial Services will be held Monday, February 11, at 10:00 am at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Tim Chinn officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Anderson Animal Shelter, South Elgin.

William C. Krueger
William C. Krueger, 83, of Elgin passed away Saturday, February 8, 2003 at ManorCare Health Services, Elgin.
He was born August 11, 1919 in Chicago, the son of William and Anna Sokolowski Krueger.
He had been a resident of Elgin since 1985. He was employed by Borden Chemical Co. for 30 years before retiring. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church of Elgin.
Surviving are his daughter, Carol (Edmund) Ronan of Gilberts; his son, William (Sirinda) Krueger of Redmond, Washington; two grandchildren, Sean (Rebecca) Ronan of Washington, NJ and Edmond Ronan of Gilberts; and two great grandchildren, Seamus Joseph and Evan Kay.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Caroline in 1991; and a sister, Dorothy Sahs.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Tuesday at St. Laurence Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 PM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass at the church.

Harold V. Letheby
Harold V. Letheby, 88, of Hampshire, passed away Friday, February 7, 2003 at Rosewood Care Center in Elgin.
He was born January 17, 1915 in Pittwood, IL, the son of Earl and Amanda (Reinhard) Letheby. Harold married Lorena C. Schiesher on June 22, 1940 in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire. Mr. Letheby had been employed at the Hampshire Milk Plant for 23 years and was a member of Teamsters Local 330.
Harold was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire and a former member of the Elgin Moose Lodge. He and his wife enjoyed many evenings of dancing, traveling together and his hobby of collecting model trains.
Surviving are two sons, James (Rose) Letheby of Hampshire, Gordon (Mary) Letheby of Monroe, WI; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Letheby and Penny (Eugene) Powell, both of Monroe, WI, Paul (Mary) Letheby and Corey (Marci) Letheby, both of Algonquin, Doug Letheby and Susan (Steve) Dalby, both of Hampshire, Rebecca (Keith) Penkaty of Tucson, AZ, Shari (Shawn) McAlpin of Hampshire; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; a brother, David (JoAnn) Walker of Hampshire, a sister, Phyllis (Ken) Bicknese of Genoa, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Hugh Walker and his wife, Lorena on October 23, 1995.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 297 E. Jefferson St., Hampshire with the Rev. Joseph P. Nicolosi officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles Borromeo cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Frederick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire with Rosary at 3:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Harold V. Letheby Memorial Fund, c/o Frederick Funeral Home, P.O. Box 445, Hampshire, IL 60140.

Steven D. Zars
Steven D. Zars, 47, of East Dundee died Friday at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born in Elmhurst on December 8, 1955. Steve was a resident of the Dundee area for 25 years. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Stout in 1978. Steve was a former educator in School District #300. Following his teaching career, Steve was currently an employee of SBC/Ameritech.
Steve was a kind and loving friend to many. He crowded a lot of living into his short life and brought a lot of happiness to many people. He will be truly missed.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Aubrey, his loving parents, Raymond E. and Lois J. Zars, one sister, Cherie (Jim) Belknap and one brother, Ken (Maureen) Zars. Steve was the proud uncle of Kyle, Dan, Brandi, Kristi, Jimmy, Zach and Taylor. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral Services will be on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-9 p.m. in the funeral home. Please omit flowers. A memorial has been established in Steve's memory in care of the funeral home.

Pamela S. Mengler Burgess
Pamela S. Mengler Burgess, 42, of Crystal Lake passed away Thursday, February 5, 2004 in her home. She was born September 30, 1961 in Elgin, the daughter of David and Patricia Junod Mengler. She had been a resident of Crystal Lake since 1988. She was formerly employed by Northwest Mill and Supply Co. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Elgin.
Surviving are her parents, David and Patricia Mengler of Algonquin; a brother, Randall (Judy) Mengler of Corbin, KY; a niece and nephew, Melissa and Adam Mengler; two aunts; and an uncle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jon R. Burgess; her grandparents, Harold and Mary Mengler and Raoul and Dorothy Junod.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 10, 1004 at 12 Noon at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Dr. Robert Kasper officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the charity of one's choice.

Roland John Ehorn
Roland John Ehorn died Sunday, February 8, 2004 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Roland was born January 25, 1921 in Elgin, IL, to Arthur J. and Florence Schroeder Ehorn.
Roland was in the excavating business in Hampshire, IL and farmed in the Dundee area for many years. He was a Director of the Kane County Farm Bureau and a member of the Vestry of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Elgin, IL and Christ Episcopal Church in Mena, Arkansas. Roland was a 1939 graduate of Elgin High School and Ellis Business College. He served in the United States Navy as a member of V. S. Scouting Squadron in the South Pacific during World War II and on the U.S.S. Wolverine Aircraft Carrier on Lake Michigan after his overseas duty. Roland was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Hot Springs. In 1972, the Erhorn's moved to Cherry Hill, (Mena) AR, where he was a rancher. For the past 14 years, he resided in Hot Springs, AR.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys Schmidt Ehorn; five children, Paul (Kathy) Ehorn of Elgin, IL, Cliff (Judy) Ehorn of Willow Hill, IL, Jan (Bob) De Queen of AR, Clark (Robin) Ehorn of Powder Springs, GA, and Doug (Steffanie) Ehorn of Benton, AR; ten grandchildren, Stacey (Don) Snow of Elgin, IL, Shane (Misty) Ehorn of Vinden, IL, Clayton Ehorn of Willow Hill, IL, Piper (Keith) Groppel of Greenwood, IN, Anna and Forrest Lowery of De Queen, AR, Sarah, Jodie and Logan Ehorn of Powder Springs, GA and Sydnee Grace Ehorn of Benton, AR; and five great grandchildren. Roland is also survived by his brother, Kenneth (Carolyn) Ehorn of Elgin, IL.
Roland was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Michaela Elizabeth Ehorn; his parents; and a brother, Merle Ehorn.
Roland will always be remembered for his wonderful smile and his honesty with all friends and associates.
Services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home in Hot Springs with Rev. Dr. Larry Williams officiating. Cremation will follow services. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.
