Bill began his career in banking at the Elgin National Bank after moving from CO to Elgin in 1964. He was the co-owner and president of the bank from 1979-1981. Following his banking career, Bill devoted full time to his lifelong hobby and avocation, constructing frames for and building hot rods. He named his business "The Roadster Shop" and referred to it as a special touch of California in Elgin, IL. It grew from his garage to its present location on North Grove Ave., Elgin. Bill's interest in hot rods began at age nine when an uncle gave him a copy of the first issue of Hot Rod Magazine. By the time he was old enough to get a driver's license, he had already built and driven several rods. One of his most recent creations was a complete reconstruction of a 1932 Ford Roadster he first built in 1984. That "Porsche Indian" red open-wheel "Deuce" was featured on the cover of the April 2004 issue of Rod and Custom Magazine. In 1970, the Model T Ford Club of America named Bill's restoration of a 1914 Model T touring car the best of that year. Scores of Roadster Shop satisfied customers will attest to the fact the attention to detail Bill and his crew gave to every project they undertook was the reason the shop earned so many accolades.
