Anne Filipek
Anne Filipek, 88, of Bartlett, formerly of Elgin passed away May 17, 2004. She was born on May 15, 1916 in Floriff, PN and was the daughter of Casimir and Anna Bukrajewski.
She was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church of Elgin.
There are no immediate survivors.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Louis in 1993.
Funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 24, 2004 in the St. Laurence Catholic Church of Elgin at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection cemetery, Justice, IL. Visitation will be on Monday in the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Laird Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Vivian J. Jacobs
Vivian J. Jacobs, 85, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004 in her home in the presence of her husband and children. She was born in Elgin on February 5, 1919, the daughter of Ernest and Marguerite Clarke Benz. Except for a few years during World War II, where she lived with her husband stationed in Nevada, she lived in Elgin all her life.
Although she had several jobs in Elgin, including working at the Elgin National Watch Company, she was a stay-at-home mother until most of her children were grown. In 1967, she started working at Larkin High School as the secretary to the Athletic Director. She remained at this job until she retired in 1982.
Vivian was an active member of the Methodist church all of her life. She had been a member of the Cornerstone Methodist Church since its inception.
Survivors include her husband, B. Frank Jacobs, whom she married
on April 11, 1942; four children, Gary (Donna) Jacobs of Gaithersburg, MD, Tom (Sue) Jacobs of Elgin, Kathy (George) Wyner of Studio City, CA, and Julie (Mark) Hosfield of Wilmette, IL; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents (both life-long Elgin residents); and one sister, Lucille Sund.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon in the Cornerstone Methodist Church, Plato Center, IL with Rev. Paul Meyers officiating. Burial will be private in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services in the church. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Methodist Church or to Provena St. Joseph Hospice of Elgin or the Fox Valley Hospice in Geneva, IL. Laird Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Christopher E. Richter
Christopher E. Richter, age 54, of Belvidere, Illinois, died Thursday evening, May 20, 2004 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after a sudden illness. Christ was born June 18, 1949 in Chicago, IL, the son of Elmer C. and Norma (Rose) Richter.
Chris was the first person from Crown High School to be inducted into the Football Hall of Fame. Chris graduated from Northern Illinois University, where he played football, earned a teaching degree and then a carpenter.
Chris and Patricia A. Pryor have been married
for 34 years. Chris was a member of Local 2087 and was a carpenter for G.W. Theil.
Survivors include his wife, Pat of Belvidere; daughters, Elizabeth Richter of Madison, WI, Rhea (Paul Hallerud) Richter of Hebron, IL, Tera (Jack) Virgin of Belvidere, Brandy (Terry) Pauley of McHenry, IL; grandchildren, Emily, Jack, Chris Virgin, Bethany, Ali Eaton, Cadie Hallerud, T.J., Tryston Pauley; brothers and sisters, Gail (Bub) Caraway, Sharon (Bob) Tramblay, Buddy (Jeanne) Richter, John (Dianna) Richter, Mary (Bill) Gordon, Megan Richter, Heidi (Mario) DosSantos, Kevin (Lisa) Richter; 22 nieces; ten nephews.
Chris was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 24, 2004 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere with Rev. Daryl Bendorf officiating. Visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Monday at the funeral home.
Nancy J. Swendsen
Nancy J. Swendsen, 63, a 37 year resident of Hanover Park died Thursday, May 20, 2004 at her home. She was born in Chicago on January 25, 1941. Nancy was raised in Algonquin and was a 1959 graduate of Dundee Community High School. She was a 1959 graduate of Dundee Community High School. She was a baptized and confirmed member of St. John Lutheran Church in Algonquin.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Gerald R. Swendsen, they married
on April 22, 1961; their children, Julie and Scott, both of Hanover Park and Erik (fiance Alicia Jordan) of Carol Stream; her mother, Georgia Davis of Algonquin.
She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil C. Davis and a sister, Sharon.
Funeral services will be on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Algonquin cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 12 noon until time of service in the funeral home.
Caroline A. Childers
Caroline A. Childers, 50, of Plato Center passed away Friday, May 20, 2005 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
She was born September 3, 1954 in Elgin, the daughter of Frederick and Lorraine (Walters) Ermel. Caroline was a 1972 graduate of Burlington Central High School and married
Frank W. Childers on May 19, 1973 at the Plato Center Methodist Church. Caroline was a devoted mom and grandma and delighted in caring for her family.
Surviving are her husband, Frank; her mother, Lorraine Ermel of Burlington; her children, Frank (Angela) Childers Jr., Nicholas C. (Jenny Pigg) Childers and Angie May (Carl Vuorenmaa) Childers, all of Plato Center; three grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua and Nicholas Jr.; her brother, Frederick (Donna) Ermel of Lexington, SC; and her mother-in-law, Ida Jane Childers of Plato Center.
She was preceded in death by her father, Fred on February 13, 2002; and an infant sister, Susan Marie Ermel.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at the Cornerstone Methodist Church, 41W170 Russell Rd., Plato Center with Rev. Calvin Culpepper officiating. Burial will be in the Plato Center cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Monday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire and at the church on Tuesday prior to services from 10 to 11 AM.

Gertrude G. Eineke
Gertrude G. Eineke, 86, of Elgin, ended a year of struggle with cancer to go rest with her Lord on May 18, 2005.
She was born October 16, 1918 in Hillsdale, MI, the daughter of James and Esther (Hinkle) Gittings. After graduation from Hillsdale High School in 1938, she moved to Elgin. She entered St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in August, 1940. November 29, 1941 she married
Herbert F. Eineke at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Plato. She remained an active member of the church, working tirelessly with Women's Missionary League, Ladies Aide, Altar Guild, taught Sunday School, and maintained the Cradle Roll from 1942 until her death.
She and her husband farmed for many years near Plato Center while raising five children. In addition to her church work, she was involved with her children's schools through PTA, Band Mothers, and chaperoning various school functions. In 1970, she returned to her profession of Nursing. At the age of 59, she accomplished a lifelong dream by graduating with Bachelor of Science from College of St. Francis College, Joliet in December 1977. Following retirement from Sherman Hospital, she provided child care for her grandchildren, enjoyed travel, camping and Bible study, and continued as an avid fan of Chicago sports teams, especially soccer.
Surviving are her five children, Lee (Patricia) Eineke of Sugar Grove, Glenn (Gloria) Eineke of Bartlett, Paul Eineke of Wheeling, Rita (James) Miller of South Elgin and Alvina Eineke of Elgin; five grandchildren, Robert Eineke, Lisa (Ian) Engberg, Jeffrey (Debra) Eineke, Robert Miller and Jennifer Miller; two great-grandchildren, Darrian and Casey Engberg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years on January 3, 1971; her parents; three brothers, Clifford, Edward and Lee Gittings; four sisters, Bertha Keller, Ruth Merritt, and Wilhamina and Violetta Gittings (both during infancy).
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Plato, with burial to follow in North Plato cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Laird
Funeral Home, Elgin, and on Monday morning in the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
Sarah Elizabeth Fleming
Sarah Elizabeth Fleming, 84, of Woodstock, passed away on May 19. Sarah ended her worldly journey to join her husband in Heaven.
She was born January 16, 1921 in Calleo, MO the daughter of Luther and Sue Bessie Malone Cross. Sarah was #11 of 13 children. On February 3, 1941 she married
Frank J. Fleming. She lived most of her life in Elgin. She retired from ITW Shakeproof after 33 years of employment.
Sarah is survived by her three children, Paul E. Fleming (Anne) of Wonder Lake, IL; Peggy Ballew of Joliet, Larry D. (Karen) Fleming of Crystal Lake; six grandchildren; four great-grandsons; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

L.W. "Will" Williams
L.W. "Will" Williams, 67, of Jonesboro, AK, formerly of Elgin passed away Thursday, May 19, 2005 in rural Poplar Grove. He was born August 10, 1937 in Jonesboro, AK, the son of Leonard and Mary (Lynn) Williams.
L.W. served in the United States Army as a cryptologist from 1955 until 1963. He retired from Illinois Bell in 1992 after 25 years of service.
Survivors include six children, Norma Boyette, Catherine Schulten, Michael (Carolyn) Williams and Anthony Williams, all of Elgin, Liane (Joel) Ratliff of Poplar Grove and Lawrence Williams of Belvidere; 14 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and ex-wife, Norma Seaman of Carpentersville.

Thomas D. Bowes Sr.
Thomas D. Bowes, Sr., 82, of Willow Lakes Estates, Elgin died Sunday May 16, 2004 at the Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. He was born in Oak Park, IL on May 26, 1921. He was the son of Thomas and Mary (nee Thomas) Bowes. Mr. Bowes was an entrepreneur. He owned and operated the Bowes Retirement and Nursing Homes in West Dundee and Elgin for 58 years. He was a former Police Office with the San Diego California Police Department and earned the rank of Sargent. He was a W. W. II Marine Corp Veteran.
He is survived by his children: Thomas D. (Nadine) Bowes, Jr. and Gerald (Herta) Bowes both of Florida, Mary Ann (Kurt) Becker of Sleepy Hollow and John Bowes of San Diego, California. (5) Grandsons: Brad, Nathan, Matthew, Ryan and Logan. His sister; Margaret (Louis) Osterberg of Sycamore. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dora A. in 1964, his brother, James, and a sister; Marjorie Eadler.
Private Family Funeral Mass was held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee. The Rev. David Austin, Associate Pastor officiated. Burial with military honors followed in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.

Roman Gabriel Cano
Roman Gabriel Cano, 27, of Elgin passed away Friday, May 21, 2004 in his home. He was born on August 28, 1972 in Elgin, the son of Jesse and Simona Chapa Cano. Roman was a graduate of Barrington High School, where he participated in numerous sports and yearbook. He was currently a student at Elgin Community College and was a former member of the St. Monica's Catholic Church of Carpentersville, IL.
He is survived by his mother, Simona (Daniel) Rhodes of Manitowoc, WI; his father, Jesse (Mary) Cano of Elgin, IL; his daughter, Naomi Danielle Cano of TX; his sisters, Andrea of Deerfield, IL, Virginia, Sarah and Elisabeth Cano all of Elgin; two step sisters, Margarete and Yvette Cano; maternal grandparents, Leopoldo and Rosa Chapa of Sheboygan, WI; paternal grandparents, Jesus and Tomasita Cano of TX; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 24, 2004 at 11 AM in the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Elgin with Rev. Edward Siesser officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on Sunday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin form 4 to 8 PM and on Monday in the church from 10 AM until the time of services. Margaret K. "Marg" Driscoll
Margaret K. "Marg" Driscoll, 93, of Gilberts, passed away Friday, May 21, 2004 at Lakeland Hospital in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. She was born February 21, 1911 in Gilberts, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Hogan) Meagher. Margaret graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Elgin in 1931. On August 21, 1940 in Gilberts, she married
Charles O. Driscoll. She continued her nursing career in the Elgin area for over 40 years and spent the last 20 years as the Head Nurse of the T.B. section at the State Hospital in Elgin.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gilberts, St. Joseph's Hospital Nurse's Alumni Association, the Huntley Lioness Club, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Catholic Daughter's of America and the Huntley Senior Citizens.
She is survived by two children, Patrick C. Driscoll of Gilberts and Rosalynn (Thomas) Edwards of Fontana, WI; three grandchildren, Kellie (Thomas) Quinn, Keith Edwards and Shawn (Jennifer) Driscoll; five great grandchildren, Sean, Ryan and Bradley Quinn and Wyatt and Cookie Driscoll; two brothers, Pierer Meagher of Kansas City, MO and Joseph (Barbara) Meagher of Aurora, OH; a sister, Alice Kelly of Bartlett; a sister-in-law, Margaret Meagher of Elgin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles on January 4, 1949; two brothers, John and Edward Meagher; and her sister, Mary Little.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Tuesday, May 25, at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Gilberts with Father Richard Rosinski officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's cemetery in Gilberts.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 PM Monday at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley.
