Anne Filipek
Anne Filipek, 88, of Bartlett, formerly of Elgin passed away May 17, 2004. She was born on May 15, 1916 in Floriff, PN and was the daughter of Casimir and Anna Bukrajewski.
She was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church of Elgin.
There are no immediate survivors.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Louis in 1993.
Funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 24, 2004 in the St. Laurence Catholic Church of Elgin at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection cemetery, Justice, IL. Visitation will be on Monday in the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Laird Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Frederic F. Inden, Sr.
Frederic F. Inden, Sr., 82, of Elgin, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Hoffman Estates.
Fred loved his family, friends and his country. He met his wife, Lois in Chicago in 1947, where they sang duets together with the Chicago Park District Opera and Operetta Company. Fred was a veteran of World War II a member of American Legion Elgin Post #57, and a lifetime member of the VFW in Arlington Heights. He has many eclectic hobbies including stamp/rock collecting and reading. Fred worked for Harper College for 19 years in Administration and Recreation.
Fred was preceded in death by one grandson.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Lois of 55 years; three children, Frederic, Jr. (Rhonda) of Rockford; Ronald (Debra) of Amboy, IL and Cindi of Elgin; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy (Stanley) Gwynn of Chicago.
A memorial service will be held at the American Legion Hall, Post 57, 820 North Liberty, Elgin, Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. O'Connor - Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin in charge of arrangements. Delores J. McDonald (nee Opperman)
Delores J. McDonald (nee Opperman), 74, of Batavia, formerly of Carpentersville, passed away peacefully Friday, May 21, 2004 at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva. She was born October 19, 1929 in Geneva, the daughter of the late Leo and Margaret (nee Tyson) Opperman Sr. Delores was employed for many years at Haeger Pottery of East Dundee.
She is survived by her one daughter, Sharon (James) Carrigan of Elgin; a son, Mark (Maria) McDonald of Aurora; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Maxine Lewis of Batavia; a sister-in-law, Mary (Bernard) Blasing of Aurora; a brother-in-law, Robert (Mary) McDonald of Oswego; dear cousin, Laurie Carlson of Geneva; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, I.F. "Red" McDonald in 1988; and a brother, Leo Opperman Jr.
visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave (Route 31 and Main St.), Batavia, IL.

Christopher E. Richter
Christopher E. Richter, age 54, of Belvidere, Illinois, died Thursday evening, May 20, 2004 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after a sudden illness. Christ was born June 18, 1949 in Chicago, IL, the son of Elmer C. and Norma (Rose) Richter.
Chris was the first person from Crown High School to be inducted into the Football Hall of Fame. Chris graduated from Northern Illinois University, where he played football, earned a teaching degree and then a carpenter.
Chris and Patricia A. Pryor have been married
for 34 years. Chris was a member of Local 2087 and was a carpenter for G.W. Theil.
Survivors include his wife, Pat of Belvidere; daughters, Elizabeth Richter of Madison, WI, Rhea (Paul Hallerud) Richter of Hebron, IL, Tera (Jack) Virgin of Belvidere, Brandy (Terry) Pauley of McHenry, IL; grandchildren, Emily, Jack, Chris Virgin, Bethany, Ali Eaton, Cadie Hallerud, T.J., Tryston Pauley; brothers and sisters, Gail (Bub) Caraway, Sharon (Bob) Tramblay, Buddy (Jeanne) Richter, John (Dianna) Richter, Mary (Bill) Gordon, Megan Richter, Heidi (Mario) DosSantos, Kevin (Lisa) Richter; 22 nieces; ten nephews.
Chris was predeceased by his parents.

C. Douglas Willigman
C. Douglas Willigman, 50, of Elgin passed away May 21, 2004 in his home. He was born on May 19, 1954 in Elgin, the son of Chester and Viola Perrin Willigman. Douglas was a graduate of Larkin High School in 1972, and has worked as a carpenter in the area for many years. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union Local #363 and of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #799.
He is survived by his two sons, Matthew and Jonathan (Elizabeth) Willigman both of South Elgin; a grandchild, Ava Willigman; and his mother, Viola Willigman of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Willigman; and his brother, David Michael Willigman.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 2 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1 PM until time of services in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Laurence Catholic Church or Zion Lutheran Church, both of Elgin.
James "Rooster" Rowlen
1949-2005
On Sunday morning, May 15, James, aka, "Rooster" Rowlen passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loved ones. Rooster was a proud American and Vietnam Veteran who loved his country.
Rooster was a character and that's putting it mildly. He was a friend to many and loved by all. Rooster was so funny and always had a smile on his face and never had a cross word to say. Going to see Rooster was always an event. You knew you would be greeted with a big smile and a kind word and a great time. Rooster had a boisterous laugh that was contagious. It will never be duplicated. Rooster loved deep sea fishing, cooking on the grill and hanging out with his many friends at "Old Starks". "You can't beat Rooster's meat!"
Ride Free our Brother. May the wind forever carry you as you ride your Harley through the sky. We will look for you in the clouds. We love and miss you Rooster and we will never forget you.
Rooster is survived by his two beautiful children; daughter, Rebecca and son, Corey; and three grandchildren; former spouses, Erin and Lori and his two sisters, Carol and Nancy.
A memorial gathering will be held May 28, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at "Old Starks Tavern" 1/4 mile west on Rt. 72 from intersection of 47 and 20/72 west.
Elna Catherine Willis
Elna Catherine Willis, 97, of Elgin passed away Friday, May 20, 2005 at Sherman West Court, Elgin. She had lived in Elgin since 2001. Elna was born on August 19, 1907 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Arthur V. Fray, M.D. and Isabelle Cole Fray. On February 20, 1925, she married
Donald Reiter Willis and during their 50 years together, they lived in Maywood, IL and Detroit, MI, retiring to Fayetteville, AR in 1957.
During World War II, Elna became a volunteer patient-feeder at Hines Hospital and later helped in the Red Cross as a Gray Lady at Great Lakes Naval Hospital. When Fayetteville, AR opened a school to graduate LPN's, she enrolled and graduated in 1959. She loved nursing, and her career covered nearly 20 years, often as a private-duty nurse. Elna was a charter member of the local LPN association, and a local Phi Sigma Alpha Chapter, a five year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #495, and an active volunteer in Girl Scouting, serving on the Oak Park, IL, Three Rivers Council.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeannine Burger of Elgin, IL; granddaughters, Suzanne (James) Campbell of Woodstock, IL, Christine (Gary) Rice of Sutton, MA and Nancy Smith of San Clemente, CA; and her grandchildren, Sarah and Andrew Rice and Christopher Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on September 3, 1975; her daughter, MaryEllen (James E.) Gibson of Fayetteville, AR on February 17, 2003; and her son-in-law, Dr. George V. Burger of Elgin on August 4, 1998.
Burial will be at National cemetery, Fayetteville, AR, where her husband is interred. Graveside services will be held there at a latter date, led by the United Central Methodist Church of Fayetteville, AR. Laird Funeral Homes, are in charge of arrangements.
Nora M. DePew
Nora M. DePew, age 80, of South Elgin passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2002 in her home. She was born November 4, 1921 in Burlington, IL, the daughter of Elvis and Margaret Peplow Allen. She was a graduate of Burlington High School. She had been a resident of South Elgin since 1946.
She was a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Elgin. She loved to sew and read.
Surviving are three daughters, Kathleen (Fredrick) Kramer of South Elgin, Maribeth (Dean) Sloggett of Batavia and Faith (Russell) Patterson of South Elgin; a son, Allen (Charlene) DePew of Hayward, WI; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; also a sister, Audrey Hardt of DeKalb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; also her husband, Donald A. DePew on April 17, 2001.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 25, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in South Elgin cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Vitas Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Percy Herman Geelhart
Percy Herman Geelhart, age 89, of Elgin, IL and formerly of Savanna, IL, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at the Carrinton Care Home, South Elgin, IL.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery, Mt. Carroll, IL. Friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Percy's name to the Special Olympics.
Percy was born on January 25, 1913 in Roundup, MT to Herman and Laura (Wills) Geelhart. He graduated from high school there and went on to college at Montana State College in Bozeman, MT, graduating in 1937 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married
Mary Ellen Coates on August 10, 1940 in Savanna, IL. She predeceased him on March 15, 1971.
Percy worked for the Milwaukee railroad from 1937 until retiring in February 1978. He also worked there summers while in college for a span of more than forty years. Survivors include his son, William Geelhart and his wife Karen, two daughters, Nancy Benjamin and her husband Jim of Vermont and Patricia Buban and her husband Bill of Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Chris, Ted, Katie, and Shane Geelhart, Debra Crook, Karen Magnon, Susan Scarano, Stephan, Jeffrey, and Timothy Benjamin and Shannon Buban; six great-grandchildren, Sarianna, Carl, and Sean Crook and Shannon, Thomas, and Maria Magnon; and a sister, Wanda Hoag of Montana; and several nieces and nephews.
Percy was preceded in death by his wife, thee sisters, Leona Lumsdun, Vivian Ristow and Gladys Geelhart.
LeRoy G. Widmayer
LeRoy G. Widmayer, 87, of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, formerly of Hampshire, passed away Monday, May 20, 2002 in Lake Geneva. He was born January 7, 1915 in Hampshire Township, the son of Frank and Jennie (Grimes) Widmayer.
After graduating from Hampshire High School where he excelled in athletics, he married
Evelyn Treyer on March 6, 1948 in the Zion United Methodist Church in Hampshire. They farmed the family farm until 1957. Roy was employed at a custodian for 30 years at the Hampshire Elementary School. Following his retirement, he then worked part-time as custodian for the Hampshire VFW for 14 years. Mr. Widmayer was a life long member of the Zion United Methodist Church of Hampshire and was an avid White Sox fan who enjoyed the White Sox victories as much as the Cub losses.
He is survived by his children, Owen (Jeanne) Widmayer of Williams Bay, WI, Kevin (Sara) Widmayer of Eureka, CA and Darryl (Judy) Widmayer of Gladbrook, IA; grandchildren, Callie and Darcy Widmayer, Jennifer Diggs, and Kim Widmayer; one great-granddaughter, Ashland Diggs; brothers, Dale (Darlene) Widmayer of Core-de-lane, Idaho and Dave (Leola) Widmayer of Hampshire; sister, Janette (Ken) Menke of Elgin; also his sister-in-law, Shirley Treyer of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn on August 31, 2000; brothers, William and Harold "Hap" Widmayer; also his sister, Ida Koppen.

Roman Gabriel Cano
Roman Gabriel Cano, 27, of Elgin passed away Friday, May 21, 2004 in his home. He was born on August 28, 1972 in Elgin, the son of Jesse and Simona Chapa Cano. Roman was a graduate of Barrington High School, where he participated in numerous sports and yearbook. He was currently a student at Elgin Community College and was a former member of the St. Monica's Catholic Church of Carpentersville, IL.
He is survived by his mother, Simona (Daniel) Rhodes of Manitowoc, WI; his father, Jesse (Mary) Cano of Elgin, IL; his daughter, Naomi Danielle Cano of TX; his sisters, Andrea of Deerfield, IL, Virginia, Sarah and Elisabeth Cano all of Elgin; two step sisters, Margarete and Yvette Cano; maternal grandparents, Leopoldo and Rosa Chapa of Sheboygan, WI; paternal grandparents, Jesus and Tomasita Cano of TX; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 24, 2004 at 11 AM in the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Elgin with Rev. Edward Siesser officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on Sunday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin form 4 to 8 PM and on Monday in the church from 10 AM until the time of services. Memorials may be made to the Ecker Center of Elgin.
Edward Schneider
Edward Schneider, 91, of Elgin passed away Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Apostolic Christian Resthaven after a lingering illness. He was born September 30, 1912 in Freeport, IL, the son of William R. and Edith Dolby Schneider. He was a 58 year member of Epworth United Methodist Church and a 55 year member and Past President of the Elgin Lions Club. He was presented the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services in 1987. He married
Edith Pollitt on November 6, 1937 and lived in rural Elgin most of his life. He was founder and owner of Edward Schneider Sand & Gravel Co., Schneider Trucking Co., and Schneider Excavating Inc. from which he retired in 1978. He enjoyed playing many musical instruments and making home made candy for which he was known as "Candy Man".
Survivors include his wife, Edith; daughters, Jean (Jack) Hayes and Mary (Ron) Parkiser; four grandchildren, Steven (Elaine) Hayes, Kathleen (Kent) Brown, Kimberly (Kyle) Baker and Sarah (Ryan) Gettinger; seven great grandchildren; all of Elgin; two brothers, Reverend Robert (Doris) of Elgin and Stanley (Joan) of Lena, IL; and a sister, Bessie (late, Dan) of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank in infancy and Reverend William G. (Olive); and two sisters, Edith (Everett) Battin and Dorothy Johnson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 AM at Epworth United Methodist Church, Corner of Randall and Highland. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St.
