William "Bill" Francis Brady
William "Bill" Francis Brady, 71, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2005.
He was born January 14, 1934 in Belvidere and grew up in Harvard, IL. He was a resident of Elgin for 48 years.
Bill served in the U.S. Army, post Korean War, in the 99th Field Artillery Battalion, Hokkaido, Japan. He was a past member of the VFW, Moose Lodge and Eagles Club. He was a member of the Meat-cutters Union retiring after 30 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie (Cavin) Brady; three brothers, Joseph, Jack, and Tom; and one sister, Ann Brady.
He is survived by one brother, Daniel (Polly) of Monroe, Louisiana; three children, Faith (Richard) Thomas of Elgin, Shawn (Tina Werbicky) Brady of Geneva, and Matthew (Kelli McElyea) Brady of Elgin; four grandchildren, Clayton, Sarah and Jillian Thomas, and Matthew Brady, all of Elgin.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2005 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the O'Connor - Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Andrew Plesa of St. Thomas More Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow at River Valley Memorial Gardens cemetery, West Dundee. Memorials may be made in Bill's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Jeanette A. Brownfield
Jeanette A. Brownfield, 80 of Elgin, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
She was born January 9, 1925 in Elgin the daughter of Harry and Marie Henning Zimmerman. She had been a resident of Elgin all of her life and had been employed at LeeWards in Elgin and Provena St. Joseph Hospital as a CNA for 11 years before retiring in 1989.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Elgin.
Surviving are her daughter, Debra (David) Hofbauer of Elgin; grandson, David Louis Hofbauer II of Elgin; brother, Harry (Eleanor) Zimmerman of Elgin; sister-in-law, Dolores Zimmerman of Elgin; brother-in-law, Robert Hollsted of Ohio; six nieces; two nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ronald Zimmerman; and sister, Dolores Hollsted.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 27, 2005 at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Home & Cremation Services Chapel, Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American heart Association.

Alan J. Coulson
Alan J. Coulson was born February 22, 1936, in Glasgow, Scotland. He came to the United States shortly after the Second World War with his parents, David and Catherine F. Coulson, living first in Chicago for a couple of years and then in Elgin where he resided until recently moving to Genoa, Illinois. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1953 and later attended Elgin Community College, Chicago Tech and the University of Wisconsin. After being drafted into the U.S. Army, he served with the 101st Airborne in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. "Al was a fun-loving man who cared about his family and took special pride in having built a successful business and in his long-time hobby of flying planes," said his wife Carol of 47 years.
After returning from military service, Mr. Coulson started as a surveying and engineering assistant in Meadowdale, one of the first tract housing developments in the Chicago suburbs for G.I.s who served in the Korean War, during which time he surveyed and engineered the Meadowdale Shopping Mall which was the first of its kind in the Chicago area and the Meadowdale Race Track where some of the early NASCAR drivers got their start. Mr. Coulson's professional love was land surveying in which he pursued his education until qualified to take the state exam. After becoming licensed in Illinois and Wisconsin, he then founded Alan J. Coulson Land Surveyors in West Dundee, Illinois, in 1974. His company surveyed hundreds of tracts of land for developers, lawyers and cities throughout the Chicago suburban area and continues to thrive as a leader in land surveying.
Mr. Coulson was a member of the Illinois Land Surveyors Association, the Wisconsin Land Surveyors Association, the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was an avid pilot qualified in single and multi engine aircraft and was a member of the Airline Pilots and Owners Association. Mr. Coulson loved to fish, play golf and spend time at this family's lake home in northwestern Wisconsin.
Mr. Coulson had served as President of the Elgin Jaycees and was deemed a life member of the U.S. Jaycees Senate. He was also a former President of the Cardunal Kiwanis in West Dundee and a member of the Elgin Elks. In addition to his community work with the Jaycees, Mr. Coulson had served on the Board of Directors of the Elgin Area Family Service Association and the Elgin Land Use Board.
Mr. Coulson passed away May 21, 2005, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago with his loving family beside him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife, Carol and his son, David (Jeannie) and daughters Jeanne and Georgia (Adam) Ojdyla and grandchildren Sheena, Alan, Jessica and Mathew. He is also survived by his sister, Catherine Goldschmidt of Westport, Connecticut and brother David H. Coulson of Irving, California.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 28, 2005 in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St. (Corner of Third and Oregon) West Dundee, Illinois 60118. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services in the funeral home.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Elk's Crippled Childrens Fund c/o Laird Funeral Home.

Merle S. Nesbit
Merle S. Nesbit, 100, of Little Rock, Arkansas, formerly of Dundee, IL, died at home Thursday, May 19, 2005. He was born July 22, 1904 in Biggsville, IL, the son of Mary Grace Jameson and Allen Nesbit.
He attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL, where he then went to work as a salesman for the Irwin Paper Company. In 1937 he married Priscilla "Peg" Swan of Pittsfield, IL. In 1947 he and his brother-in-law, William F. Oatman, started the Midwest Dried Milk Company in Pittsfield, IL. The company offices were moved to Dundee, IL in 1949. In 1951 they expanded their business to include Milk Specialties, Inc. While in Dundee, Mr. Nesbit served several terms on the Board of Directors of the First National Band and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Dundee. Residents of Dundee for 49 years, Mr. and Mrs. Nesbit moved to Little Rock, AR in 1998 to live with their daughter, Priscilla.
His wife of 68 years, Priscilla Swan Nesbit, his daughter, Lynn Nesbit of New York, NY and his daughter, Priscilla Green of Little Rock, AR survive him. He also leaves behind two granddaughters, Priscilla Nesbit Gilman (Prud'homme) and Claire Swan Gilman of New York, NY; a step-grandson, Nicholas Gilman of Mexico City; and two great-grandsons, Benjamin Gilman Prud'homme and James Nesbit Prud'homme. In addition he is survived by his niece, Marianna Nesbit Seitz of Galesburg, IL; his nephew, J. David Oatman of Dundee, IL; and nieces, Rachel Oatman Johansen of Santa Barbara, CA and Laurel Miller Fronek of Benicia, CA; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Illinois at a later date. Memorials may be made to Macular Degeneration Research, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., Clarksburg, Maryland 20871.

Wayne R. Sees
Wayne R. Sees, age 66, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 in Peoria, AZ. He was born September 23, 1938 and was raised in Elgin, IL.

Fred Arthur Engers
Fred Arthur Engers, age 61, of Elgin died Thursday, May 22, 2003 at Louis A. Weiss Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
He was born November 16, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to Fred R. and Lucy M. Engers.
With a career spanning many years in the Tool & Die and Injection Molding Industries, Mr. Engers was employed at Hoffer Plastics Corporation since 1973. He was also a member of St. Laurence Church, where he served on school boards including St. Edward Catholic High School. Mr. Engers was an avid car enthusiast and an active member in the Pontiac Oakland Club International (P.O.C.I).
Mr. Engers is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joanne M.; his mother, Lucy M. of Orlando, Florida; three children, Erika M. Engers of Geneva, Tamara L. (Robert) Prentiss of Geneva and Michael G. of Hermosa Beach, California; four grandchildren, Caitlin, Collin, Corey and Casey Prentiss; a brother, Thomas A. (dear friend, Barbara Leister) of Silver Spring, Maryland and a sister, Joan (Joseph) Burns of North Glenn, Colorado; four sisters-in-law, Martha Donlan of Plainfield, Illinois, Kathleen (William) Arenz of Lomband, Marcella (Robert Nordhaus) Hollmann of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and Mary Hollmann of Leawood, Kansas; two brothers-in-law, Thomas (Jann) Hollmann of Villa Park, Illinois and Thomas McSweeney of Inverness, Illinois; a niece, Rachel Engers of Silver Spring, Maryland and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred R. and a sister, Mary Kay Thyfault; four brothers-in-law, Louis W. Hollmann, John L. Hollmann, Garet Petersen and Kevin Donlan; and a sister-in-law, Rosemarie McSweeney.
Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 27 at St. Laurence Catholic Church, corner of Jewett and Standish, Elgin, Illinois. Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be at Queen of Heaven cemetery, Hillside, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday, from 3-9:00 p.m. at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, St. Charles, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Patrick Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville, Illinois 60563, Attention Development Department; to Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 South LaFox Road, South Elgin, Illinois 60177; or to Elgin Crisis Center, P.O. Box 1390, Elgin, Illinois 60121.

Edward Graf
Edward Graf, 89, of Elgin, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2003 in the Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. He was born April 8, 1914 in Wayne, IL and was the son of William and Pauline (Deihs) Graf. Edward was a resident of the area for all of his life, and had worked at the Howell CO for 38 years prior to his retirement. Attended the Apostolic Christian Church of Elgin.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Graf, whom he married on June 4, 1938, two children, Gary (Karen) Graf of Elgin and Jane (Robert) Robison of Clarksville, TN, four grandchildren, Deborah (Robert) Montavon of Elgin, Jennifer (Michael) Corcoran of Wintersprings, FL, Edward (Ashley) and Andrew Robison of Clarksville, TN, eight great grandchildren, two sisters, Julia Graf and Nina Willaert, both of Elgin, two brothers, Robert and Walter (Helen) Graf both of Elgin, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and family.
Preceded by his parents, six sisters, Louis Schifferer, Elsie Newberry, Rose Haumiller, Sarah Levey, Marie Kimball, and Martha Loehner; six brothers, David, Charles, William, Samuel, Benjamin and Frank Graf.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Apostolic Christian Church of Elgin.

Glen E. Hanson
Glen E. Hanson, 78, of Sleepy Hollow died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at the Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Crystal Lake.
He was born on March 24, 1925, the son of Edward O. and Agnes J. (nee Anderson) Hanson.
Mr. Hanson was a 38 year resident of Sleepy Hollow. He was a Commercial Airline Pilot and retired from Delta Airlines after 36 years of service. He was a pilot in the Army Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Eleanor M. (nee Mackey) Hanson. They married on September 6, 1947; a son, Roy (Nancy) Hanson of Algonquin; a granddaughter, Katrina; a grandson, Neal; and a brother, Hugh (Joan) Hanson of Delavan, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be on Friday at 10 AM in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, West Dundee with Mr. Frank Hewitt, DPM officiating. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens in West Dundee.
Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4 to 8 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Friday in church from 9 AM until time of services.
Memorials may be made to either the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, The Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association.

Geoffrey Allen Knights
Geoffrey Allen Knights, 53, of Homestead, Florida passed away Sunday, May 25, 2003 in Miami, Florida.
He was born April 16, 1950 in Elgin, Illinois.
Dear friend of Vicky Myers; loving father of John Enrique Knights and Katherine Emma Knights; dear brother of Kathleen Knights Mickey of Norwalk, CT; John Knights of Davenport, FL, Nora and Sara Whitlock of Elgin, IL;

Ethel B. Lundy
Ethel B. Lundy, 96, of Elgin, IL passed away in Florida on April 24, 2003. She was born August 9, 1906, in Dundee, IL, the daughter of Augusta (Schmidt) and George Young.
Resident of Elgin most of her life. Member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Elgin. She also did volunteer work with Sherman Hospital Auxilary for many years.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Perley) Nitz of Elgin and Lois (Robert) Nelson of Arizona; two sisters, Alyce (Robert) Fairchild of Michigan and Ruth (Delmont) Bruening of Carpentersville; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1973 and one brother, Glenn Young.
Memorial services will be held at the First Congregational Church on May 29, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the church chapel.
Family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Congregational Church.

Donald Bernard "Snuffy" Smith
Donald Bernard "Snuffy" Smith, lived 82 years of his wonderful life in the Dundee area. Born in his mother's home in Elgin on May 3, 1921, he entered the Kingdom of Heaven on May 22, 2003, surrounded by his loving family. He blessed the lives of everyone he met.
Son of Phineas and Alice Stanson Smith, Don enjoyed his childhood in Frog Hollow with his brothers, sisters and neighborhood pals. He attended Elgin High School and proudly served his country for four years in World War II as a member of the 38th Air Engineering Squadron of the 13th Army Air Force, and remained lifelong friends with his Army brothers.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Parrott, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage; sons Donald (Mary Lou) Smith of Hampshire, David of Milford, Ohio, Richard (Debra Demotto) of Carpentersville; daughters Peggy (Roy) DeSousa of Poplar Grove, Beth Miller (Doug Yarbrough) of Dundee; grandchildren Gabrielle (Dan Kesner) and Joshua (Valerie Baker) De Sousa, Keri and Ashley Miller, Rachel and Ryan Smith; sister Jane (Leonard) Blakesley of Marina del Rey, California; sister-in-law Mary Smith; many nieces, nephews, friends, and his dog, Smitty.
Gone before him are his parents, brothers Stanson (Jim), David, Richard (Pug); sisters Marion (Toots) Goode and Katherine (Tink) Dauel.
Don was owner of Nehls Transfer of East Dundee for over 40 years, and was a friend to all. He served four years as a commissioner on the Dundee Township Park District Board, and was deeply committed to "Save Open Space". Don was a member of the Monday Night Golf League at Bonnie Dundee Golf Course. He loved his town and was proud to serve his community. He was a "prince of a guy".
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. The Rev. Jerry Otahal will officiate. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens in West Dundee. Visitation will be on Monday from 3-8 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Please omit flowers. Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation, 600 S. Federal St. #201, Chicago, IL 60605.
