Irene H. Sperry
Irene H. Sperry, 88, of Elgin passed away Friday, May 28, 2004 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. She was born January 31, 1916 in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Hazel Beck Younie. She had been a resident of Elgin since 1943.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews; and grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erwin Sperry in 1990; and two brothers, Lloyd L. and Paul A. Younie.
Private graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of one's choice. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
Beth S. Henseler
Beth S. Henseler, 30, of West Dundee passed away Sunday, May 27, 2001 from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
She was born March 2, 1971 in Urbana, IL, the daughter of John and Janet Spoonamore.
Beth taught ice skating at Santa's Village Polar Dome, Crystal Lake, Barrington and Rolling Meadows Ice Arenas. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She was a member of the International Skating Association.
Survivors include her loving and caring husband, Anthony "Tony" of West Dundee, formerly of Minneapolis, Minn., whom she married
April 17, 1999; her parents of Washington D.C.; a brother, Dr. Mark Spoonamore of California; a sister, Ellen (Scott) Brasington of North Carolina; and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and her uncle while on duty during WWII in the Army Air Corps.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St., West Dundee, the Rev. Steve Srock officiating. Burial will be in Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday and on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of services in the funeral home.
Clifford L. Hill
Clifford L. Hill, 81, of South Elgin, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2001 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital,Elgin.
He was born Nov. 16, 1919 in Hopkins Park, Ill., the son of George and Elizabeth Hill.
Clifford was a Veteran and served in the US Army during WWII. He worked as a Spinner with the Madison Company for 43 years prior to his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, whom he married
in 1947; two children, Clifford J. (Noreen) Hill and Debra Hill, both of Elgin; a granddaughter, Emily Hill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Hill.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Friday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be held on Friday starting at 9 a.m. until the time of services in the funeral home.
Margaret Irene Hood
Margaret Irene Hood, 86, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Elgin, died Friday, May 25, 2001 at Odyssey Hospice in Peoria, Arizona.
She was born March 29, 1915, in Elgin, the daughter of William and Irene Bowen Tweedie. After living her entire life in and around Elgin, Margaret moved to Phoenix in 1999. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1999 and spent her remaining years enjoying life with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of Elgin High School and retired from Illinois Tool Works, Inc. after 30 plus years of service. Margaret participated in many charitable and service efforts in Elgin. She especially treasured her time with the Ladies of the Elks, Elgin, BPOE Lodge # 737.
Her parents, her husband, Clyde Lowell Hood, and her daughter, Clydell Jean Hood Boncoskey preceded her in death.
Surviving are her brother, Edward (Carol) Tweedie of Naples, Florida; her granddaughter, Kimberly Boncoskey of McHenry; her grandson Timothy (Laura) Boncoskey; and three great-grandchildren, Scott, Sean and Caroline Boncoskey of Phoenix, AZ.
Burial services will be Saturday, June 2, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Omission of flowers is requested. Memorials may be made to the Chapel Fund of St. Joseph Hospital.
Ben S. Johnson
Ben S. Johnson, 76, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, May 24 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born August 12, 1924 in Oshkosh, WI and was the son of Benjamin and Mae Johnson. Ben graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1942. He was a Veteran, having served with the 20th Air Force in Japan during WWII. He was in Professional Boy Scouts after leaving the service. Ben was a Regional Manager for Globemaster Tool in Elk Grove Village, IL. He retired from RCS, where he was a Production Manager in St. Charles. Ben also worked part time for Zieglers Ace Hardware. He was a member of the PBOE Elks Lodge 737.
Survivors include his three daughters, Nancy (Paul) Thomsen and Vicki (Don) Blanken, both of Elgin, and Barbara (Tom) Katchmer of Fox Lake, IL; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and his sister, Karen Johnson of Oshkosh, WI.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia in 1999; a son in infancy and a brother, Chris Johnson of Aurora, IL.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 9 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 PM until the time of services in the funeral home.
Leslie Marie Lance
Leslie Marie Lance, 41, of South Elgin passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
She was born Aug. 7, 1959 in St. Charles, the daughter of Marshall and Sandra (Clark) Lance.
Leslie was employed as Vice-President of Administration for Geneva Manufacturing in South Elgin.
Survivors include her son, GarrettGirard and his father, Garry; her parents, Marshall Lance of Elburn and Sandra Lance of South Elgin; her sister Amy (Wei) Bounsy of Massachusett; her brother, Marshall Lance Jr. of Geneva; nieces and nephews, Quintin, Travis and Isobelle Bounsy and Jack Lance; her paternal grandmother, Martha Lance of Geneva; maternal grandparents, Russell and Marie Clark of South Elgin; aunts and uncles, Tina and Dave Ekstrom of Geneva, Pat and Tom Drever of Colorado and Dick and Ginnie Lance of Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Jess Lance; and her uncle, Allan Clark.
Memorial Services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2001 in St. Charles Episcopal Church, 994 N. 5th Ave. (Rt. 25), St. Charles, the Rev. William Nesbitt officiating. Burial will be private.
There will be no visitation. Malone Funeral Home, Geneva is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leslie Lance Memorial Fund, c/o American National Bank of Elgin, 24 E. Chicago St., Elgin, IL. 60120 or any Bank One Facility these funds will be used to purchase a book collection in her name for the newly expanded Elgin Library.
David B. Thomas
David B. Thomas, 55, of Elgin passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2001 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
He was born Sept. 2, 1945 in Elgin, the son of Noel and Lillian Petschow Thomas.
He had been a resident of Elgin all of his life. He had been employed by School District U-46 for many years before retiring. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elgin.
Survivors include a brother, Dale (Coleen) Thomas of Elgin; seven nieces and nephews, Shawn (Linda) Thomas of Yorkville, Wendy (Jim) Schmitt of Elmhurst, Eric (Denise) Thomas of Tigard, Ore., Rebecca, Keely and Jeremy Paulus and Seth Thomas, all of Elgin; and eight great nieces and nephews, Kelsey and Lauren Schmitt, Blake and JacquieHanauer, Jara, Jaime, Justin and Brett Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Noel in 1978; and his mother, Lillian in 2000.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Jim E. Lovett
Jim E. Lovett, 67, of East Dundee died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was born on October 5, 1936 in Oneida, TN. He was the son of Everett and Zama (nee Wright) Lovett.
Jim was a 36 year resident of the Dundee Area. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Carpentersville. He was a United States Navy Veteran and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Dundee VFW #2298.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judith L "Judy"; five children, Tami (Tim) Topcu of Lombard, Scott(Sandy) Horcher of Carpentersville, Linda (Brian) Muscat of Dundee Township, Lt William (Joslin) Horcher, stationed with the United States Navy in Japan, and Jody (Joe) Gurney of Carpentersville; 18 grandchildren; three sisters, Ella (Paul) Garritt, Mary Sexton and Betty Lovett; a grandson, Jason S. Horcher; and two brothers, Cecil and Curt Lovett.
Funeral services will be on Friday, June 4, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Faith Lutheran Church of Carpentersville. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 3, 2004 from 5-9 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Friday in church from 10 a.m. until time of services. Please omit flowers. A memorial has been established in his name in care of the family.
Anna E. Smith
Anna E. Smith, 90 of Elgin, formerly of Jump River, WI, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2004 in her daughter's home. She was born March 8, 1914 in Soldier's Grove, WI, the daughter of Henry and Dorothea (Kramer) Kalkopf.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene (Gerald) Hurley of Elgin, Dorothy (George) Staley of Akron, OH; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother (Vi) Kalkopf, Townsend, WI.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herald L. Smith; a daughter, Joan Marthe; a son, Glen Smith; three sisters, Elizabeth Figge, Marie Kalkopf, and Dorothy Fillmore; and two brothers, Ardene Kalkopf and Henry Kalkopf.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 7,2004 at 11 a.m. in the Hannibal Presbyterian Church, Hannibal, WI, with the Rev. Brad Carloss, officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Nebo cemetery, Jump River, WI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 6th from 4-8 p.m.at the Gilman Funeral Home, West Riverside Dr., Gilman, WI. Local arrangements are being handled by the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
Mary M. Hayes
Mary M. Hayes, 83, of Elgin passed away Thursday, May 31, 2001 in her home.
She was born June 24, 1917 in Grand Chain, Ill., the daughter of John and Gertrude Henson.
Mary was employed with Chicago Rawhide for many years prior to her retirement. She then worked at Larkin High School in the Cafeteria. She was a member of the Larkin Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Clara M. Wahl of Elgin and Helen (Robert) Williams of Byron, Ill.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, George (Carol) Henson of Indiana; and two sisters, Dortha Pemberton of Indiana and Ruth Bates of Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Hayes in 1997; and three grandchildren, Mary Heckman in 1993, Harold Wahl in 1993 and H. Paul Lalley in 1990.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Richard Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Sunday in the funeral home.
