Beth S. Henseler
Beth S. Henseler, 30, of West Dundee passed away Sunday, May 27, 2001 from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
She was born March 2, 1971 in Urbana, IL, the daughter of John and Janet Spoonamore.
Beth taught ice skating at Santa's Village Polar Dome, Crystal Lake, Barrington and Rolling Meadows Ice Arenas. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She was a member of the International Skating Association.
Survivors include her loving and caring husband, Anthony "Tony" of West Dundee, formerly of Minneapolis, Minn., whom she married
April 17, 1999; her parents of Washington D.C.; a brother, Dr. Mark Spoonamore of California; a sister, Ellen (Scott) Brasington of North Carolina; and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and her uncle while on duty during WWII in the Army Air Corps.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St., West Dundee, the Rev. Steve Srock officiating. Burial will be in Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday and on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of services in the funeral home.
Ben S. Johnson
Ben S. Johnson, 76, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, May 24 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born August 12, 1924 in Oshkosh, WI and was the son of Benjamin and Mae Johnson. Ben graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1942. He was a Veteran, having served with the 20th Air Force in Japan during WWII. He was in Professional Boy Scouts after leaving the service. Ben was a Regional Manager for Globemaster Tool in Elk Grove Village, IL. He retired from RCS, where he was a Production Manager in St. Charles. Ben also worked part time for Zieglers Ace Hardware. He was a member of the PBOE Elks Lodge 737.
Survivors include his three daughters, Nancy (Paul) Thomsen and Vicki (Don) Blanken, both of Elgin, and Barbara (Tom) Katchmer of Fox Lake, IL; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and his sister, Karen Johnson of Oshkosh, WI.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia in 1999; a son in infancy and a brother, Chris Johnson of Aurora, IL.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 9 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 PM until the time of services in the funeral home.
Leslie Marie Lance
Leslie Marie Lance, 41, of South Elgin passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
She was born Aug. 7, 1959 in St. Charles, the daughter of Marshall and Sandra (Clark) Lance.
Leslie was employed as Vice-President of Administration for Geneva Manufacturing in South Elgin.
Survivors include her son, GarrettGirard and his father, Garry; her parents, Marshall Lance of Elburn and Sandra Lance of South Elgin; her sister Amy (Wei) Bounsy of Massachusett; her brother, Marshall Lance Jr. of Geneva; nieces and nephews, Quintin, Travis and Isobelle Bounsy and Jack Lance; her paternal grandmother, Martha Lance of Geneva; maternal grandparents, Russell and Marie Clark of South Elgin; aunts and uncles, Tina and Dave Ekstrom of Geneva, Pat and Tom Drever of Colorado and Dick and Ginnie Lance of Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Jess Lance; and her uncle, Allan Clark.
Memorial Services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2001 in St. Charles Episcopal Church, 994 N. 5th Ave. (Rt. 25), St. Charles, the Rev. William Nesbitt officiating. Burial will be private.
There will be no visitation. Malone Funeral Home, Geneva is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leslie Lance Memorial Fund, c/o American National Bank of Elgin, 24 E. Chicago St., Elgin, IL. 60120 or any Bank One Facility these funds will be used to purchase a book collection in her name for the newly expanded Elgin Library.
Gary Pethoud
Age 47, formerly of Elgin, died suddenly Sunday, May 27 in his home in Temecula, CA.
He was preceded in death my his mother, Geraldine in 1981 and his father, Russell in 1990.
A former businessman in Elgin, Gary is survived by his wife, Rhonda; his daughter, Rachel both of Temecula; and by his brother, Michael of Lodi, CA.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 2 at Hilgenfeld Mortuary in Anaheim with burial on Tuesday, June 5 at GlenOaks cemetery in Chico, CA. Arrangements in Chico made by Brusie Funeral Home.
Ruth L. Lawther
Ruth L. Lawther, 95, of Huntley, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2003 in her home.
She was born March 22, 1908 in Butler, PA, the daughter of Harry and Maude (Dickey) Winger. Ruth married
Theodore R. Lawther Sr. on June 28, 1925 in Butler. She has been a Huntley resident since 1947 and a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Huntley. She was a homemaker known for her baking.
Surviving are her loving family, son Theodore "Ted" Lawther Jr. of St. Louis, MO, devoted granddaughter Pamela Lawther and former daughter-in-law Jeanne Krueger both with Ruth at home in Huntley, step-granddaughter Susan (John) Lamb of Warson Woods, MO, step-great-granddaughters Maggie and Chrissy Lamb, caregiver Kathy Escobar of Woodstock, and many very dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted on November 18, 1993, sister Ethel Gregg, and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Lawther.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley with the Rev. Norman Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the Huntley cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Humane Society, Huntley Rescue Squad or to St. John Lutheran Church of Union.
Alyce Weber
Alyce Weber, 91, of Elgin, formerly of St. Charles, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2003 at Heritage Manor, Elgin.
She was born September 25, 1911 in Crainville, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Iva Wiley.
She had been a resident of St. Charles for many years before moving to Elgin. She had been employed by Delnor Hospital, St. Charles before retiring.
Surviving are her daughter, Beverly Overbey of South Elgin; three sons, Philip (Rose) Weber of Wisconsin, Michael (Janet) Weber of Clearwater, FL and David (Marilyn) Weber of Savanna, IL; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a great great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren; and a sister, Juanita Williams.
Private funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery.

Glen Elwin Cluts
Glen Elwin Cluts, 94, of Elgin passed away Saturday, May 22, 2004 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. He was born December 11, 1909 in Nachusa, Illinois, the son of Maurice and Anna May (Thomas) Cluts. Glen was a member of the Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren, where he worked and also retired from after many years. he was a resident of Elgin since 1946.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeannine (Everett) Hallenbeck; a son, Doyle Cluts; grandson, Jeffrey (Anna) Allen; great grandson, Taylor; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Florence (Ziegler) Cluts.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 4, 2004 at 11:30 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with the Rev. Joel Kline officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3, from 4 to 8 PM in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Highland Ave. Church of the Brethren.
Teresa Krogsrud
Teresa Krogsrud, 95, of Elgin died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at Heritage Manor. She was born February 22, 1909 in Winamac, IN the daughter of Andrew and Josephine Nufer. She was a resident of South Elgin/Elgin for the past 60 years. She was a seamstress for Saks 5th Avenue before marrying Ralph Krogsrud and moving to Elgin in 1944. After moving to Elgin, she worked as a seamstress for Lee Wards for 20 years before retiring in 1973. Her hobbies were sewing, crafts and gardening. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a member of St. Mary's Women's Club, Niam and Vasa Swedish Organization.
Teresa is survived by one daughter, Susan Ballard of Elgin; three sons, John Krogsrud of South Elgin, Andre (Joyce) Krogsrud of St. Charles and Charles (Cindy) Krogsrud of New Mexico; five grandchildren, Michael Martin, Brian (Julie) Martin, Troy Martin, Kevin (Kim) Krogsrud and Lisa (Todd) Birckelbaw; four great grandchildren, Cody, Yasmine, Chase and Dion; and many nieces and nephews.
Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 32 years, Ralph; four brothers, Karl, Joe, John and Andy; and three sisters, Mary, Martha and Margaret.
Visitation will be Friday, June 4, 2004 at the O'Connor-Leetz Funeral Home, 364 Division Street, Elgin, IL from 4 to 9 PM with a Prayer Service at 8 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elgin at 10 AM. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery. Memorials may be made in Teresa's memory to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Jim E. Lovett
Jim E. Lovett, 67, of East Dundee died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was born on October 5, 1936 in Oneida, TN. He was the son of Everett and Zama (nee Wright) Lovett.
Jim was a 36 year resident of the Dundee Area. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Carpentersville. He was a United States Navy Veteran and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Dundee VFW #2298.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judith L "Judy"; five children, Tami (Tim) Topcu of Lombard, Scott (Sandy) Horcher of Carpentersville, Linda (Brian) Muscat of Dundee Township, Lt William (Joslin) Horcher, stationed with the United States Navy in Japan, and Jody (Joe) Gurney of Carpentersville; 18 grandchildren; three sisters, Ella (Paul) Garritt, Mary Sexton and Betty Lovett all of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Timothy E. Lovett; a grandson, Jason S. Horcher; and two brothers, Cecil and Curt Lovett.
Funeral services will be on Friday, June 4, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Faith Lutheran Church of Carpentersville. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 3, 2004 from 5-9 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Friday in church from 10 a.m. until time of services. Please omit flowers. A memorial has been established in his name in care of the family.
Helen A. Gurke
Helen A. Gurke, 86, of Plato Township passed away Saturday, June 2, 2001 at Sherman West Court in Elgin.
She was born August 9, 1914 in Hampshire Township, the daughter of William and Emma (Martens) Tamms.
Helen married
Leslie F. Gurke on June 24, 1933 in Lena, IL and they farmed in Plato Township all of their married
life. She was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Harmony, the Women's Fellowship, and the Kane County Farm Bureau.
Surviving are her children, Barbara (Alvin) Markham of Elgin, David (Darlene) Gurke of Genoa and Dorothy Gurke of rural Elgin; five grandchildren, Darwin (Earlita) Markham of Sugar Grove, Beth (Damon) Cobb of Elgin, Ralph (Renee) Markham of Maple Park, Roger (Fiancee' Samantha) Markham of Elgin and Eric (Tammy) Gurke of Elgin; six great grandchildren; and a sister, Ocie Manser of Hampshire.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie on April 4, 1977; two brothers, Gerhard Tamms and Leonard in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at the St. John's United Church of Christ, Rte. 20, Harmony with Pastor Dan Hinckley officiating. Burial will be in the Harmony cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Monday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire and at the church on Tuesday prior to services from 10 to 11 AM.
