Mary M. Hayes
Mary M. Hayes, 83, of Elgin passed away Thursday, May 31, 2001 in her home.
She was born June 24, 1917 in Grand Chain, Ill., the daughter of John and Gertrude Henson.
Mary was employed with Chicago Rawhide for many years prior to her retirement. She then worked at Larkin High School in the Cafeteria. She was a member of the Larkin Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Clara M. Wahl of Elgin and Helen (Robert) Williams of Byron, Ill.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, George (Carol) Henson of Indiana; and two sisters, Dortha Pemberton of Indiana and Ruth Bates of Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Hayes in 1997; and three grandchildren, Mary Heckman in 1993, Harold Wahl in 1993 and H. Paul Lalley in 1990.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Richard Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Sunday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Larkin Avenue Baptist Church.
Ben S. Johnson
Ben S. Johnson, 76, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, May 24 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born August 12, 1924 in Oshkosh, WI and was the son of Benjamin and Mae Johnson. Ben graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1942. He was a Veteran, having served with the 20th Air Force in Japan during WWII. He was in Professional Boy Scouts after leaving the service. Ben was a Regional Manager for Globemaster Tool in Elk Grove Village, IL. He retired from RCS, where he was a Production Manager in St. Charles. Ben also worked part time for Zieglers Ace Hardware. He was a member of the PBOE Elks Lodge 737.
Survivors include his three daughters, Nancy (Paul) Thomsen and Vicki (Don) Blanken, both of Elgin, and Barbara (Tom) Katchmer of Fox Lake, IL; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and his sister, Karen Johnson of Oshkosh, WI.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia in 1999; a son in infancy and a brother, Chris Johnson of Aurora, IL.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 9 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 PM until the time of services in the funeral home.
Matha "Aunt Bea" Krehmke
Matha "Aunt Bea" Krehmke, 93, of Elgin died Friday, June 1, 2001 in Sherman Hospital.
She was born August 5, 1907 in Virgil, IL, the daughter of Herman and Minnie Rabe.
She had been a resident of Elgin most of her life. She was an avid gardener and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Elgin.
Surviving are a brother, Raymond Rabe of Madison, Wisconsin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry in 1988; a sister, Edna Weir; and a brother, Bernard Rabe.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 10 AM in the Laird Funeral Home in Elgin with Rev. Hannibal Frederich officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park and friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 9 AM until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Cancer Unit at Sherman Hospital.
Sadie A. Oglesby
Sadie A. Oglesby, 93, of Huntley, passed away Friday, June 1, 2001 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
She was born May 17, 1908 in Kingston, IL, the daughter of James and Alice (Baker) Ball. Sadie was a lifelong resident of Huntley and was married
to Leslie A. Oglesby.
Mrs. Oglesby was a member of the First Congregational Church of Huntley and retired from the Union Specialty Corp. in Huntley.
Surviving are her son, Clayton C. (Gwendoline) Peterson of Chicago; two daughters, Kathryn (John) Bost of Brooksville, FL and Elaine (Bruce) Jensen of Algoma, WI; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two sisters, Viola Knaak and Edna Harting both of Huntley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie on February 1, 1980; a son, Gordon Lovejoy; and six brothers and a sister.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at the First Congregational Church, 11628 E. Main St., Huntley with the Rev. Bette J. Zattau officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM at the church Tuesday at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley and at the church on Wednesday prior to Services from 10 to 11 AM.
Memorials in her name may be directed to the First Congregational Church of Huntley.
Edward Patrick Oszuscik
Edward Patrick Oszuscik, infant son of Dennis and Jessica (nee Fitzsimmons) Oszuscik died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Dannette at home; his paternal grandparents, Claude and Lois Oszuscik of California; maternal grandmother, Jennifer Crowley of Rockford; maternal grandfather, Dean Fitzsimmons of Elgin; paternal great-grandmother, Estelle Oszuscik of Arlington Heights; and maternal great-grandparents, Terance and GloriaCrowley of Wisconsin.
Memorial Services will be 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Chapel, the Rev. Joseph Noonan of St. Francis Borgia Church officiating.
Friends may call on Tuesday between 4-5 p.m. until the time of services in the chapel.
Mary Lynn Sanders
Mary Lynn Sanders, Age 55, of Elgin, formerly of Olney, IL passed away on Monday, May 31, 2004 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Mary Lynn was born on August 23, 1948 in Vincennes, IN to Donald W. & Lorine (Adams) Giese. She married
Charles Sanders on November 19, 1967. She was a Teacher's Aide for the U-46 School District in Elgin, IL. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Sanders of Elgin, IL; her sons, Tony (Ann) Sanders of Haubstadt, IN, and Mark (Sherry) Sanders of Baldwin, MO; her grandchildren, Grant and Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin sisters; and one sister, Donna Sue Bemount.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney, IL with Reverend Gary B. Ryden officiating. Interment will be at Haven Hill cemetery in Olney. Visitation will be Friday, 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Theresa Leone Starr
Theresa Leone Starr, of Carpentersville passed away Saturday, June 1, 2001 at her daughter's residence.
She was born August 28, 1918 in Sharpsburg, PA, the daughter of Joseph and Rose Pugliese Leone.
She was a longtime member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Carpentersville, where she served as a Deaconess and member of the Women's Fellowship. A member of the Fox River Rebekah Lodge for many years, known as "Grandma" to the members of the Imperial Scots Band from 1984 to 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane (Albert) Beelow of Elgin; grandmother of Deborah (Philip) Pierce, James (Mary) Beelow, Susan (Chad) Woodfall and Terry Beelow; great grandmother of five; also survived by five sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marshall in 1985; a son, James in 1953; and three brothers.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2001 in the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 30 N. Washington St., Carpentersville with Rev. Kris Hewitt officiating. Interment will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 PM Tuesday in the church.

Irene M. Bartels
Irene M. Bartels, 63 of Sun City, Huntley former 40 year resident of Carpentersville died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at her home. She was born in Chicago on August 11, 1939, the daughter of Ludwig and Francisca (nee Steinbuck) Geibel.
Mrs. Bartels was a former sales associate for 10 years at Sears at Springhill Mall. She was also a former Sales Representative for Avon Cosmetics and enjoyed being an "Avon Lady". She was a long time member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Elgin.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, John "Tom" Bartels. They married
on September 28, 1957. She is also survived by three children, Kim Bartels of West Dundee, Lisa (David) Bartels-Rabb of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Tina (David) Pfefferkorn of Kirkland; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Heather, Betsi, Jonathan, Matthias, Zora and Ian; one brother, Ralph Geibel of Lake Mills, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2700 W. Highland Ave., Elgin. The Rev. Dr. John Grauley will officiate. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services in the church. Please omit flowers; memorials may be made to Children's International, P.O. Martin Bussmann
Martin Bussmann, 83, of Elgin died Friday, May 30, 2003 at Provena St. Joseph's Hospital, Elgin.
He was born December 2, 1919 in Petrovo Polje, Yugoslavia, the son of Martin and Christine (Zorn) Bussmann.
In World War II, he was drafted into Germany's Merchant Marine and was stationed in the North Sea. After the war in 1945, as a displaced person, he emigrated to Schwanenstadt, Austria. There he settled and learned the trade of wood working and became a Master Cabinetmaker.
In 1955, he came to the United States with his young family. Through the years, he worked for several Elgin area firms, including Kienzle Brothers, Fawn Fabricating and Vecchio's. He retired from Elgin Macor in 1984.
He is survived by daughters, Trudi (Seppi) Mergili of Vienna, Austria, Brigitte Treonis of Elgin, IL, Betty (Gene) Shattuck of West Dundee, IL, Linda (Greg) Johnson of Elgin, IL and Barb Bussmann of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, Alex and Susanne Mergili, Amy and John Treonis, Rachel Shattuck, Katie and Paul Johnson; and his loving caregiver of two years, Halina Siuta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers and sisters in Germany.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 5, 2003 at 1 PM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Pam Pendexter officiating. Burial will be in Plato Center cemetery, Plato Center.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 12 Noon until the time of services.

John R. Horton
John R. Horton, 76 of Savanna, IL formerly of Elgin passed away Monday, June 2, 2003 in Elgin. He was born July 17, 1926 in Clay County, Indiana the son of William R. and Nellie E. Holmes Horton. He had been a resident of Elgin for most of his life and had lived in Savanna for the past 5 years. He was a carpenter for over 40 years before retiring. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Marines.
He was a member of Carpenters Local 363 in Elgin for over 40 years and served as trustee for more than 15 years, a member of American Legion Post 57 of Elgin, a member of VFW Post 1307 of Elgin, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 799 of Elgin and a member of the Elgin Riverside Club. He was an avid horse shoe pitcher and competed in many local leagues and tournaments.
Surviving are his wife, Winnie "Nan" Horton; three daughters, Lisa J. Horton of Charlotte, N.C., Jaqueline J. (Tony) Horton-White of Port St. Lucie, FL, Susan L. (Doug) Horton of Elgin; one son, John W. Horton of Elgin; five grandchildren, Justin M. (Katie) Horton of Huntley, Joshua R. Horton of Elgin, Nathan K. Horton of Champaign, Anthony P. White and Jessica W. White of Port St. Lucie; four sisters, Margaret Kelly of Negaunee, MI, Alice (Kenneth) Thurnau of Pinegree Grove, Phyllis Kelley of DeKalb and Ina (Ed) Ahrens of Dundee; two brothers, Eugene P. (Kathryn) Horton of Sloan, Iowa, Mel R. (Margaret) Horton of Algonquin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William W., Walter P., and Harold F. Horton; four children in infancy.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 5, 2003 from 4 PM to 8 PM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Juvenile Diabetes or the American Cancer Society.
