Paula M. (Wiedemann) Hodgson
Paula M. (Wiedemann) Hodgson, 57, of Naperville, died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at home after a long and courageous battle against Huntington's Disease.
An RN, she was born in Elgin, Illinois, and was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter T. Wiedemann and her brother, Charlie Wiedemann.
Paula is survived by her devoted husband of 30 years, Dave Hodgson, and she was a loving, caring mother to John, Kate, Sarah, and Emily Hodgson, also of Naperville. She was the sister of Jessie (Steve) Wiedemann-Diaz of Ottumwa, Iowa and James and Joseph (Sallie) Wiedemann. She was an aunt to several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 27, 2004, at St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, 3910 Highland Ave., Downers Grove, IL at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name be directed to The Huntington's Disease Society of America- Illinois Chapter, P.O. Box 8383, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008.
Thomas P. Keaty, Sr.
Thomas P. Keaty, Sr., 62, of Carpentersville died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was born on April 28, 1942 in Chicago. He was the son of Terry and Alice (nee Witcher) Keaty. He was a resident of Carpentersville for the past 34 years.
Mr. Keaty was employed by School District #300 where he worked as Head Custodian at the deLacey Center Carpentersville. He was an active member of St. Monica Church in Carpentersville. He was a former Eucharistic Minister for 18 years and former many year Co-Ordinator of the Middle School C.C.D. Program.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lenore A. (nee Panico) Keaty, whom he married
on June 15, 1963; their eight children, Thomas P., Jr. (Valerie) fo Crystal Lake, Patrick (Cheryl) of South Elgin, Tina (Steven) Roesslein of Carpentersville, Mary (David) Cotton of Genoa, Robert (Pamela) of Huntley, Steven of Mount Prospect, Kathleen of Carpentersville, and Elizabeth of Carpentersville; thirteen grandchildren, Amanda, Anthony, Olivia, Tommy, Juliana, Nicholas, Billy, Patrick, Chloe, Natalie, Camille, Benjamin, and Alexander; his brother, Richard; his sisters, Susan (Steven) Waters, Mary (Richard Fowler) Keaty and Janet (Dan) Deutmeyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 8:45 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee to St. Monica Church, Carpentersville for Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Dundee Twp. East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be on Friday frm 5-9 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Please omit flowers, masses would be appreciated or memorials to the deLacey Center of Carpentersville.
Mark Douglas McRoberts
Mark Douglas McRoberts, 41, of Grayslake, formerly of Elign, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2004 from ALS. He was born January 18, 1963 in Elgin, IL and was the son of Glen (Barbara) McRoberts and Marilyn Lamberton (Shine). He was in the graduating class of Chaska High School in 1981 in Chaska, MN. Mark spent his final days peacefully watching NASCAR on TV every Sunday. He was able to see his favorite driver, Rusty Wallace, win very recently.
Survivors include his brother, Michael; four half brothers, Terry (Diane) Jerry, Ryan, and Glen; five half sisters, Sally (Jerry), Wendy (Bill), Drusilla, Gail, and Jennifer; his niece, Rayanna; his daughter, Debbie; his son, Kevin.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Bertha Shine; his paternal grandmother, Gladys Berke (Webb); his uncle, Dennis (Mary Ellen) Shine.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, 1735 W. Highland Ave., Elgin, IL 60123. Helen Busse-Andrew
Helen Busse-Andrew, 84, a resident of Fond du Lac, Wis. and Marco Island, Fla., passed away Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Nazareth Court, Fond du Lac.
She was born Nov. 20, 1916 in Merrillan, Wis., the daughter of the late Roy and Lyla Wing Biggar.
Helen was a member of the Jr. Service Board and the Garden Club of Elgin. She was the last surviving Lifetime Member of the Elgin Country Club and was a member of the Marco Island Art League.
Survivors include her husband, George Andrew and his daughter, Patty (Peter) Popp of Fond du Lac; her children, Stuart C. (Camille) Busse of Northville, Mich., Kathleen (Richard) Busse-Schmeling of Whitefish Bay, Wis. and John P. Busse of Elgin; her grandchildren, Aimee, Claire, Andrew and Michael Busse, John (Erin) Schmeling, Krista (Doug) Schmeling-Campbell, David Schmeling, Keri Schmeling, Erin (Ray) Busse-Rijkse and Sean Busse; and her great-grandchildren, Taylor, Miles, R.J., Jacob, Will, Liam, Tyler and Ashley.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Stuart Clayton Busse; and a sister, Dorothy Hesse.
A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at the St. Francis Home Chapel, Fond du Lac. Cremation has taken place and burial of the cremains will be in the Udina cemetery, Udina.
The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour prior to the services.

Walter C. Hickman
Walter C. Hickman, 70, of Naperville, Illinois died after a courageous battle with cancer June 9, 2001 at a Green Bay assisted living facility.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on September 8, 1930 he is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hickman. Walter was a career Air Force pilot for 20 years and the was employed most recently by the West Chicago Police Department until retirement. He was an avid reader and photographer.
He is survived by: three sons and one daughter-in-law: Brian Hickman and fiancee Sarah Frank of Green Bay; Chris and Angela Hickman of Lake in the Hills, Illinois; David Hickman of Streamwood, Illinois; one grandson: Chase Hickman of Lake in the Hills, Illinois; one sister and brother-in-law: Jacqueline and Ron Burmeister of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother and sister-in-law: Richard and Coleen Hickman of Glen Allen, Alaska; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Elvira Kelly
Elvira Kelly, 80, of Elgin, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2001 in her home.
She was born April 12, 1921 in Caledonia, Ill., the daughter of Fred and Annabel (Wallace) Smith.
A resident of Elgin, Elvira was the longtime Secretary for the First Presbyterian Church of Elgin prior to her retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elgin and was active in many church groups.
Survivors include two sons, Charles (Barbara) Kelly of Elgin and James Kelly of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren,Kevin, Patrick, Scott and Allison; a sister, Josephine Homuth of Elgin; and two brothers, Fred Smith of Elgin and Bill Smith of Owenton, Ky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jared Smith; and two sisters, Margle Welstead and Vashti Yerke.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Burial will be private.

Wilhelmina D. "Wilma" Knight
Wilhelmina D. "Wilma" Knight, 87, of South Elgin, formerly of Huntley and Genoa, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2001 at the Alderwood Healthcare Center in South Elgin.
She was born Sept. 26, 1913 in Forest Park, the daughter of William and Anna (Iden) Meyer.
Wilma married
Sidney M. Knight on Aug. 4, 1931 in Bloomingdale and they farmed for several years. They were the former owners of the Henpeck Tavern in Hampshire and then the Harmony Tap in Harmony which they operated until 1969. Mrs. Knight was also employed by Wabash Tape of Huntley for over 10 years retiring in 1984. She had been a member of St. John's United Church of Christ of Harmony and very much enjoyed quilting. Mrs. Knight has been a resident of Alderwood since 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Elmira (Robert) Kammes of Belleville, Wis.; a son, Wayne (Mary) Knight of Mountain Grove, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney on Feb. 19, 1967; two daughters, Elaine VanAcker and Geraldine in infancy; twin grandchildren; and four brothers.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 13 at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley, Rev. Dan Hinckley of St. John's United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Wednesday in the funeral home.

Arnie Powell
Arnie Powell, 88, of Elgin died Friday, June 8, 2001 in Rosewood Care Center.
He was born January 24, 1913 in Tiptonville, TN, the son of Willie and Minnie Powell.
He has been a resident of Elgin since 1945.
Surviving are two daughters, Juanita (Walter) Spann, Sr. of Schaumburg, IL and Jacquelyn Powell of Elgin; three step daughters, Josephine Washington of Chicago Heights, IL, Ruth (Ronald) Cowles of Chicago Heights, IL and Sally Evans of Chicago Heights, IL; a step son, Fred (Joleen) Evans of Park Forest, IL; five grandchildren, Michael (Sharlet) Spann, Walter Spann, Jr., Christopher Spann, Ricardo Spann and Tonya (Steve) Hames; four great grandchildren, Traci Spann, Christian Spann, Sarah Spann and Ceczar Spann; a sister, Pearl Powell of Paducah, Kentucky; an aunt, Sylvester Clemons of Tiptonville, TN; a special sister, Laverne Johnson of Elgin; and many step grand and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fannie in 1987; and a grandson, Robert David Spann.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11 AM in the Second Baptist Church with Rev. Shirley Hare officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery.
Friends may call at the Second Baptist Church in Elgin on Wednesday from 9 AM until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Salvation Army.

Dr. Steven James Rakow
Dr. Steven James Rakow, 48, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2001 after a long and courageous battle following a bicycling accident.
Steven was born in Elgin on Feb. 1, 1953 and graduated from Elgin High School in 1971.
Steve received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Illinois State University and his Master of Arts in Education from the College of St. Thomas. Steve was awarded his PhD in Science Education from the University of Minnesota in 1984. Since receiving his PhD, Dr. Rakow has touched the lives of many teachers with his work at the University of Houston Clear Lake. Steven became a full Professor at UHCL in 1998. He was active in science education throughout his career having served as President of both the Science Teachers Association of Texas and the National Science Teachers Association. Dr. Rakow worked with many area schools, as well as others across our nation and in other countries. With his work with the Houston Children's Museum, he helped bring a love of science to countless children. In addition to his many contributions in science education, Steven was blessed with a beautiful tenor voice and worked with several church choirs. Steve loved Broadway music both as an audience member and as a performer. For the last 19 years he had composed an original Christmas carol to share with his friends and loved ones.
Survivors include his life partner of 16 years, Terry Brandhorst; a sister, Diane Rakow of Long Beach, Calif.; his mother, Lois Rakow of Elgin; his father, James Rakow of Algonquin; and devoted friend, Linda Robinson of Alvin, Texas.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held at Bering Memorial United Methodist Church, (1440 Harold St.; www.beringumc.org; 713-526-1017) on Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at 10 a.m.
The family will receive visitors following the service at the church.
