Margaret M. Berghorn
Margaret M. Berghorn, 87, of Harvard, formerly of Huntley, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2002 in Woodstock, IL.
She was born May 11, 1915 in Crystal Lake, the daughter of James and Margrethe (Bathum) Boyer. Margaret was a 1933 graduate of Crystal Lake High School. She married Melvin H. Berghorn on December 20, 1939 in Crystal Lake. They farmed near Crystal Lake before moving to the Huntley area in 1958.
Margaret was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Huntley and the CELAS organization. She will long be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Surviving are her son, William (Shirley) Berghorn of Crystal Lake; daughters, Mary (Basil) Periman of Harvard, Marilyn (Larry) Storm of Cary and adopted daughter Betsy Hartmann of Mendota; caregiver Leila Merino; eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Jim) Meyer of Huntley, Kerry (Kim) Perman of Springfield, Kevin (Katrina) Periman of New Berlin, IL, Rebecca (Rich) Coduto of Lake in the Hills, Shannon (Neil) Dunham of Waukesha, WI, Heidi (Edward) D'Ambrosia of Marengo, Brett (Heather) Berghorn of Walworth, WI, Lisa (David) Fink of Philo, IL and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin on May 14, 1983; her son, Wayne Berghorn on December 3, 1996; a daughter in law, Charlene Berghorn in 1980; a sister, Anna and five brothers, Arthur, Elmer, Floyd, Roy and Arnold Boyer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 22, 2002 at the First Congregational Church, 461 Pierson St., Crystal Lake with the Rev. Keith Haemmelmann and the Rev. Ronald Woodruff officiating. Burial will be in the McHenry Co. Memorial Park in Woodstock.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the James O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley and at the church on Saturday prior to services from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M.

Carolyn Deanna Cook
Carolyn Deanna Cook, 62, of Peoria, AZ, formerly of Elgin, passed away Friday, June 14, 2002 at Boswell Hospital, Sun City, AZ. She was born November 6, 1939 in Tamms, IL.
She had been a resident of Elgin for several years before moving to AZ in 1987.
Surviving are her daughters: Tammy S. Weldon of Apopka, FL and Vicky L. Marshall of Peoria, AZ; three grandchildren; her mother, Eulah O. Sitton of Carbondale, IL; sister, Elaine Hileman of South Elgin; brother, Rodney Sitton of Jonesboro, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor D. Cook on, June 4, 1986.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, at 1:30PM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Friday, from 12:00 NOON until the time of Services.

Dorothy "Dottie" Denzler
Dorothy "Dottie" Denzler, age 77, of Elgin passed away Monday, June 17, 2002 in her home. She was born June 27, 1924 in Chicago, the daughter of Clyde and Mae Schoen Gillies. She had been a resident of Elgin since 1970. She served in World War II as a WAVE and was stationed in Southern California.
Surviving are two sons, Richard B. Denzler of Milford, CT and Matthew S. Denzler of Elgin; two sisters, Florence Mae Vrettos of Hoffman Estates and Bonnie Denham of Spring Grove, IL; also a brother, Clyde (Marcia) Gillies of Carpentersville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard W. Denzler in 1983; two brothers, John Neal Gillies in 1945 in World War II and Thomas Hugh Gillies in 1994.
The family and close friends will have a gathering in her memory on Saturday, June 22, 2002 at 11:30 A.M. at Floyd's Restaurant, Carpentersville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Provena St. Joseph Hospital Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.

Ralph W. Peterson
Ralph W. Peterson 86, of Carpentersville died Tuesday at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born in Carpentersville on October 8, 1915. He was the son of Herman & Zula (nee Hendrickson) Peterson. He was a life long resident of the area and a life long member of the First Congregational Church of Carpentersville. He was a Operating Engineer by trade and a member of Operating Engineers Local #150. He was a supporter and active in Boy Scout Troop #32 for over 50 years. He was a W.W. II Veteran having served in the United States Army, a member of the I.O.O.F. Century Lodge #492 of Carpentersville for over 60 years, and a 19 year trustee of the Dundee Township Cemeteries. He is survived by his wife of 61 years: Mildred "Millie" (nee Halliday) Peterson. They married on December 31, 1940. (1) Son: James R. (Anne) Peterson of Sleepy Hollow (1) Daughter: Sue (William) Palumbo of Plymouth, Indiana. (3) Grandchildren: Mia Palumbo, Ryan Peterson and Pamela (Sergio) Castro. He was preceded in death by his parents, (1) sister: Frances J. Peterson (1) brother: Clarence Peterson. Private Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at the Dundee Townshop West cemetery, West Dundee. The Rev. Robert Tripp will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday from 6-8pm in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop #32.

Harold S. Barnett
Harold S. Barnett, 83, of South Elgin, IL, formerly of Galatia area, died June 16, 2003 at 3:12 p.m. in Pontiac, IL. He was born in Carterville, IL on March 12, 1920, the son of Albert Barnett and Fern (Clark) Barnett. He married Virginia (Medlin) Barnett. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a veteran of the 101st Airborne in Europe. He was a member of the American Legion Post #57 of South Elgin and was retired from Illinois Tool Works Shake Proof.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary (Parris) Hanson of Eau Claire, WI, three sisters, Vivian Stark of Manteno, IL, Wanda Doxie of TN, Dorothy Simons of CA, three grandchildren, Gayle Hanson, Peggy (David) Staehling and Jon Hanson and fiancee Gretchen Kinney, two great grandchildren: Mikayla and Morgan Staehling, two sisters-in-law, Marie (Medlin) Smothers and Bonnie Wiseman both of Galatia, family and friends.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Sloan Funeral Home. Interment at Ebenezer cemetery in Rileyville with Rev. Hubert Bradley officiating. Visitation 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003 at Sloan Funeral Home.

Loretta C. Foley
Loretta C. Foley, 93 of Marengo, formerly of St. Charles, died Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Biltmore Care Center in Belvidere.
She was born in St. Charles on March 20, 1910 to James and Marianne (Walshe) Foley. She was an elementary school teacher. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Retired Teachers Association, Catholic Daughters and had been a Pink Lady at St. Joseph Hospital in Belvidere.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Devona A. Foley of Marengo and Bernice Foley of Lena.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Margaret Foley, Rita Winkler, Rosemary Glick and Mary Agnes Boetsch; and three brothers, Emmett, James and Francis Foley.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 Friday, June 20, 2003 at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy, Marengo. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N. Taylor St. in Marengo. Fr. Richard Russo will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. William Lee Haggard
William Lee Haggard, 70, of Elgin, IL, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born February 23, 1933 in Winner, SD to Elmer C. and Verna L. (Stolenberg) Haggard.
William had served in the Navy, as a fighter pilot, serving on the aircraft carriers, USS Ticonderaga and the USS Bennington, William then joined United Airlines serving then as a 747 Captain retiring after 33 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra (Levar) Haggard; three sons, Scott (Nancy), Eric and Paul (Diane) all of Elgin; two daughters, Gale (Rod) Glover of California, Karen Haggard of Elgin; two brothers, Marvin and Tom Haggard both of California both of California. 15 grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his grandson, Ryan Haggard.
Memorial service was held on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at 7 PM at the Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Chapel with Rev. Edward Seisser officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to the Leukenia Research Foundation, 820 Davis Street, Evanston, IL, 60201.

Steven Charles Kleiser
Steven Charles, son of William and Helen Kleiser, (formerly of Elgin), passed away on May 24, 2003. He has resided New York City for the past 15 years. He was born in Elgin on January 15, 1960 and graduated from Saint Edwards High School in 1972. He attended college in Chapmaign-Urbana before moving to New York. He is survieved by his sister, Connie; and brother, William. A memorial Service will be held in New York City on July.

James "Jim" H. Schulz
James "Jim" H. Schulz, 57, of Genoa, Illinois died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at his home. He was born March 22, 1946 in Aurora, Illinois the son of William R. and Evelyn E. (Christenson) Schulz. He married Joyce A. Williams on August 22, 1964 in Aurora. He was a stationary engineer at Shedd's Foods for eighteen years then was a maintenance engineer for Nehring Electric. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Schulz of Genoa; a son, Brian Schulz of Genoa; five grandchildren, Jeromy, Jason, Nick, Bradley, Kathleen; two sisters, Joanne (Dale) Jackman of Florida, Mary (Art) Slaber of Naperville; a brother, Mike (Archie Fritsch) Shulz of Aurora; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Schulz.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21 at Cooper-Quiram Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St. in Genoa. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lincoln cemetery in Aurora. Information (815)784-2518 or www.quiram.com.

Joyce Mae Sholes
Joyce Mae Sholes, 84, of Elgin, died Thursday, May 29 at Sherman West Court. The daughter of Oral D. and Lucy (Volkening) Sholes, she had lived in Elgin for almost all of her life. She worked for many years at Anderson Insurance Company and then worked for the Elgin Mental Health Center until her retirement. She was an avid gardener, a passionate reader, and a faithful friend to her animals.
She is survived by nieces, Cathy Yant, Cynthia Thompson, Janine (Reid) Lewis, Melinda Sleight, Dianne (Mike) Dudek; nephews Steve Mills, Larry Mills, John Van Vleet, Gordon (Joyce) Van Vleet, James Van Vleet; and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ernest C. Sholes; and two sisters, Betty Mills and Leone Van Vleet.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 at Madison Funeral Home.

William R. Valentine
Willam R. Valentine, 79, of Elgin, formerly of Mt. Prospect, IL, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at Kindred Hospital, Sycamore. He ws born August 7, 1923 in Akron, Ohio and was the son of Edward and Maude Valentine. William was a Veteran and served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. He was a widely recognized commercial designer.
Surviving are his wife, Esther Parsons Valentine, whom he married February 28, 1952; four children, Edward (Kathleen) Valentine of Elgin, Jeff (Kathleen) Valentine of Elk Grove Village, IL, Rick (Cindy) Valentine of Elgin, Lisa (Thomas) Askren of Schaumburg, IL; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 22 at 2:30 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private.

Malene Anderson
Malene Anderson, 96, of Elgin went to be with her heavenly father on Friday, June 18, 2004. She was born October 2, 1907 in Hollandale, Wisconsin. she came to Elgin to enroll in the Sherman Hospital School of Nursing and graduated with the first Sherman nursing class in 1929. In 1933, Malene was united in marriage to Harry G. Anderson of Elgin. They recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Surviving are her husband, Harry G. Anderson; six nieces; and a nephew.
preceded in death by her parents, Gunder and Judith Nygard.
Private graveside services will be held Monday at 2 PM in Bluff City cemetery. There will be no visitation. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Anderson Animal Shelter.
