Rev. Merrill Spangler Tope
Rev. Merrill Spangler Tope, 101, of Elgin passed away Saturday, June 21, 2003 in Rosewood Care Center.
He was born July 30, 1901 in Bloomfield, Ohio and was the son of Rev. William Henderson and Hattie Spangler Tope.
He had been a resident of Elgin since 1967. He served in the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church for 38 years before retiring in 1967. He was Pastor of Riverside United Methodist Church for 19 years. He attended Grace United Methodist Church of Elgin.
Surviving are a daughter, Marilyn (Gary) Doolen of Los Alamos, New Mexico; two grand daughters, Jane Doolen of Arizona and Connie (David) Sholl of Pittsburg, PA.; two great grandsons, Kevin and Martin Sholl; a great grand daughter, Rachel Sholl; and a sister, Ruth Tope of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Miller Tope; and his parents.
Memorial services will be held Monday, July 28, 2003 at 2 PM in the Grace United Methodist Church in Elgin. Private burial was held in Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Riverside United Methodist Church, Riverside, IL. Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St, Elgin is in charge of services.
Joseph F. Faber
Joseph F. Faber, 92, of Maple Park passed away Monday afternoon, June 21, 2004 after several months of declining health. He was born August 29, 1911 in Virgil, IL, the son of Andrew and Mary (Berkes) Faber. Joe grew up in Virgil where he attended SS. Peter & Paul Schools.
Joe was the oldest of nine children and barely a teenager when his mother died. As was the custom, Joe left school to help his father shoulder the responsibility of the family. In addition to helping his father, Joe also hired out to help other farmers and family friends.
One of a fading generation of farmers, Joe needed nothing more to make life worthwhile than to farm his fields and love his family. Quiet but determined, strong but kind, Joe had both strength of spirit and depth of heart.
Joe was a member of St. Gall Church, Elburn and a life member of the Elburn Lion's Club as well as the Kane County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by three children, Marjorie (Robert) Spellmeyer of Hampshire, IL, Glenn (Jane Schwartz) Faber of Milford, OH and Raymond (Lola Lehmann) Faber of Houston, MN; and a daughter-in-law, Helen Faber of Asheville, NC; nine grandchildren, Grant (Sarah) and Neal (Grace) Spellmeyer, Keith Faber, Sarah Faber Epplen, Daniel (Janine) Faber, Lance (Meta) Faber, Ellen, Andrea and Joseph Faber; seven great grandchildren, Gavin, Brennan and Quinlyn Spellmeyer, Avery Spellmeyer, Laken Faber, Darcy Faber and Adria Epplen; a brother, Lawrence "Tuffy" (Pauline) Faber; two sisters, Theresa Herrmann of Sycamore, IL and Mary Johnson of Kaneville, IL; a sister-in-law, Mary Faber of Virgil, IL; as well as many nieces and nephews and a community of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anne (2003); a son, Frederick (2003); two brothers, Anthony (2004) and Henry; and three sisters, Margaret Faber, Rose Bertrum and Madeline Sibley.
Friends may call at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL, Friday, June 25, 2004 from 4 to 8 PM. Liturgical Wake Service will be held at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue Saturday morning at church from 9:30 AM until time of Mass. His Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 26, 23004 at St. Gall Church, Elburn, IL at 10:30 AM. The Rev. Fr. Karl Ganss will officiate and interment will follow at South Burlington cemetery, Burlington Township.
Memorials in his memory may be made either to Masses or to the charity of your choice.

Gabriel James Guastaferri, infant, of Elgin. Our angel so small and sweet has returned home to heaven, he will always be an Eternal Light in our hearts.
He is survived by his parents, Rosemary "Chevy" Cobb and Anthony "Tony" Guastaferri both of Elgin; brothers and sisters, William Jr., Paige, Dylan and Michael of Elgin; God parents, James Grocke and Sarra Doose of Elgin; grandparents, Mary Ann Guastaferri of Elgin, Michael (Stacy) Guastaferri of Ohio, Brian "BK" (Sherry) Hansen of South Elgin and James (Cynthia) Littledale of Elgin; his aunt and uncle, David (Chrissy) Hansen of Schaumburg, IL; and aunt and uncle, Ben and Cadelyn of Ohio.
Although his light shined for a short time, it encompassed many many friends and family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 9 PM in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the parents.
Mary Leffler
Mary Leffler, 64, of Elgin passed away Monday, June 21, 2004 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born September 6, 1939 in Romania, the daughter of John and Anna Manulak. She had been a resident of Elgin since 1975 and was employed as a waitress at Elgin Country Club for 20 years, the Blue Moon for 21 years and was presently waitress/bartender at Our Place in South Elgin. She was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church of Elgin and a member of the Women of the Moose.
Surviving are three children, Arden Del Leffler of Elgin, Kathryn (Michael) Cheperka of Elgin and John Charles Leffler of Crystal Lake; five grandchildren, Michele (Eric) Blanken, Michael (Kyle Beth) Cheperka, Scott Cheperka, Brian Cheperka and Christopher Leffler; a great grandson, Aidan Cheperka; her significant other, Robert "Mitch" Mitchell; a sister, Stephanie (Jack) Sherwood of Nebraska; two brothers, Steve Manulak of Nebraska and Otto (Sherry) Manulak of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean Arden Leffler in 1983; and a brother, James Manulak.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 26, 2004 at 9 AM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held Friday from 3 to 9 PM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Memorials may be given to VFW Post #1307, Elgin.
Joanne McNamee (nee Mulvey)
Joanne McNamee, age 76, member of the Order of the Carmelites Discalced Secular, was received into the loving arms of Our Lord on June 22, 2004. Joanne was born in Chicago in 1927 and was a current resident of Bradenton, FL and former resident of Carpentersville, IL.
Joanne is the beautiful and loving mother of Mari Beth, Thomas, Sheila (David) Petges, Dennis, David, Phillip (Debbi), Terrence, Maureen (Bruce) Johnson, Eileen (Jeff) Miulli, Gerard and the late Timothy and David; devoted grandmother of 16 and great-grandmother of three; dear sister of Phillip (Betty) Mulvey and Mary Alice (the late Richard) Davis; cherished daughter of the late Elizabeth, (nee O'Hare) and Phillip Mulvey, I.
Joanne graduated Loyola University with a Bachelors Degree in Math and a Masters Degree in Student Counseling. A dedicated teacher of 35 years and teaching Math for 20 years in the Elgin School District and retiring in 1989.
Joanne volunteered in many organizations including Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Religious Education, Crisis Pregnancy Centers, and also, tutoring English as a second language. Joanne was adventurous, camping with her 11 children from Mexico to Alaska.

Jane E. Moseley
Jane E. Moseley, 70, of Elgin passed away Monday, June 21, 2004 in her home. She was born December 4, 1933 in Russellville, Arkansas and was the daughter of Hillard and Annis Skidmore. She had been a resident of Elgin since 1964. She graduated from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago with a Master Degree in Piano Performance. She was a piano teacher serving students and adults in Northeast Illinois, played organ at Westminster Presbyterian Church for a number of years and was a substitute organist at other area churches.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a member of numerous musical associations, including the Music Teachers National Association, North West Suburban Music Teachers Association, Fox Hills Music Teachers Association, American College of Musicians, and the American Guild of Organists. She was also a member of Dalcroze Society of America.
Surviving are her husband, Robert C. Moseley; one daughter, Dr. Elizabeth (Werner) Gerber of Switzerland; one son, Robin C. (Kimberly) Moseley of Elgin; six grandchildren, Nicole, Rebecca, Benjamin and Sarah "Sally" Moseley, and Bronwen and Meredith Gerber.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Jill Elizabeth Moseley; one grandson, Llewelyn Emile Gerber.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ewan Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and then at the church until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Westminster Presbyterian Church or to the church school.
Duane Dale Ohl
Duane Dale Ohl, born August 8, 1928 in West Branch, Iowa passed away Monday, June 21, 2004 at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. Formerly of Elgin.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
Duane was a graduate of Northern Iowa University, formerly Iowa State Teacher's College. He later received his Masters degree. Duane spent a large majority of his 35 year teaching career at Elgin High School where he taught Science and later became Divisional Chairman of Math and Science.
After retiring from District U-46 and the death of his wife, Myrna, Duane remarried
and moved to a farm in Henderson, Tennessee where he enjoyed his menagerie of animals. This past year, Duane moved back to Illinois and resided in Sycamore with his wife, Janice. Duane will forever be remembered as a humorous, gentle man who always had a smile on his face, and never spoke a harsh word. He was a truly loving husband, father, grandfather and.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Dorothy Ohl; brother, Arden Ohl; and wife, Myrna L. Ohl.
Survivors include his loving wife, Janice Maier Ohl; two daughters, Lauri (Robert) Shultz of Casenovia, Wisconsin and Gretchen Ohl of Elgin; two sons, Scott (Kim) Ohl of Seymour, IL and Steffan (Kim) Ohl of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Julian, Torreson, Elizabeth, Katie, David, Kevan, Veronica and Valerie; step son, Clint Krusie of Batavia, IL; and step daughter, Emily (Keith) Salis of Clare, IL; and six step grandchildren.
Douglas J. Roepke
Douglas J. Roepke, 57, of Elgin passed away Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born September 10, 1946 in Elgin, the son of Melvin Walter Herbert and Evelyn Elizabeth Bird. He was a graduate of Dundee High School and was employed by Verizon Wireless before retiring. He had been a resident of Tampa, Florida and had recently moved to Elgin.
Surviving are his daughter, Robin (Kurt) Stirnkorb of Chicago; a son, Randall Roepke of Greensboro, NC; and a sister, Barbara Fredrickson of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Melvin Roepke, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services, Elgin with Rev. Scott Seidler officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Dorothy Hayward Rover
Dorothy Hayward Rover, 86, formerly of West Dundee, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2001.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Helen Hughes and Barbara (Jean) Patton; as well as six grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Rover.

Gordon E. "Gordy" Volkman
Gordon E. "Gordy" Volkman, 70, of Aurora, IL passed away Saturday, June 23, 2001 at Provena Mercy Center. He was born November 18, 1930 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Gordon was on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Tollway Authority. He was a former Treasurer of Kane County and a former Vice-President of Aurora National Bank. He was a member of the Optimist Club, Tiger Club, Turner Club and the Aurora Moose Lodge #400. Gordy is the President of the Aurora Pony League and a Vice-President of the World Boxing Organization (W.B.O.). He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife Dee of Aurora; a son, Jeffrey (Geralyn) Volkman of Aurora and their children, Gregory and Matthew; a daughter, Nancy (George) Gladis of Batavia, and their children, Michael, Ashley and Amy; brothers, Thomas (Jan) Volkman of Oshkosh, WI and Harold (Mary Ann) McLaughlin of St. Louis, MO; a sister-in-law, Joanne Volkman of Fond du Lac, WI; mother-in-law, Sylvia Sullivan of Aurora; and several nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Christi Ann (Montanye) Volkman; and brothers, Walter and Gerald Volkman.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 26, 2001 from 2 to 8 PM at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora, IL, 60506. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at 10 AM from St. Mary's Catholic Church, 430 E. Downer Place, Aurora, IL. Gordon will by lying in state from 9 AM until the funeral hour at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Michael "Mickey" Dudash
Michael "Mickey" Dudash, 92, of Carpentersville passed away Sunday, June 22, 2003 at Bloomingdale Pavilion Nursing Home.
He was born August 9, 1910 to Frank and Julia (Bonczak] Dudash.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, owner of the Elgin Shoe Shine Parlor from 1966-2002, and a member of Carpentersville VFW Lodge 5915. On October 4, 1941, he married
Elsie Martlick in Chicago.
Survivors include his son, Michael "Mickey" Dudash; two sisters, Frances Trait and Sophie Genovese; a brother, John "Jack" Dudash; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie in 1992; five sisters, Ann, Katherine, Agnes, Theresa and Mary; and a brother, Steve.
Services for the family will be private.
