Edith V. Douglas
Edith V. Douglas, 84, of Elgin passed away Monday, June 25, 2001 in Sherman West Court, Elgin.
She was born Feb. 11, 1917 in Maple Park, the daughter of Harry and Mattie Nelson Freeland.
She had been a resident of Elgin since 1952.
Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy (Chelsie) Williams of Kentucky, Joyce (Robert) Leatherby and Cynthia (Mark) Knapp, both of Elgin; six grandchildren, Peggy (Dennis) Fetting, Connie (Michael) Norton, Michael (Jennifer) Leatherby, Julie Leatherby, Scott and Stephen Knapp; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; three sisters; and two brothers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward E. on May 5, 1988; and a brother.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m., Wednesday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
Visitation will be 4 p.m., Wednesday until the time of services in the funeral home.

Lloyd Heine
Lloyd Heine, 69, of Eagle, Wis., formerly of Hampshire died Saturday, June 23, 2001.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 28 in Mealy's Funeral Home, Eagle, Wis.
Visitation will be Wednesday.
Joyce Amy Johnson
Joyce Amy Johnson, 71, of Elgin, died Friday, June 22, 2001 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital. She had been in declining health for the past year due to the complications of Diabetes.
She was born October 25, 1929 in the Mennonite Community of Mountain Lake, MN, the daughter of Jacob R. Dick and Justina (Heier) Dick.
Educated in the Mountain Lake School System, she graduated from high school in 1947 and attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis for two years. Her marriage August 9, 1953 to Robert D. Johnson of Red Wing, MN was celebrated in Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake.
Prior to her marriage she worked in cost accounting at Minneapolis Honeywell. She and her family moved several times in the early years from Minneapolis to Fergus Falls, MN, then Menomonee Falls, WI and finally settled in Elgin in 1971.
In Elgin, Joyce was very active in Christ The Lord Lutheran Church and it's educational and women's organizations. She was the volunteer delivery teams coordinator for Meals on Wheels in Elgin for over 20 years. Her passion for gardening was reflected in her participation with the Elgin Better Garden Club in which she was a Past President. She devoted her life to her family of which she was most proud.
Survivors include her husband, Robert D. Johnson of Elgin; six daughters, Barbara Bond (Jeffrey) of Rockford, MI, Mary Kasper (Robert) of Sycamore, IL, Carol Rybarski (Joseph) of Colleyville, TX, Patricia Crowley (John) of Lone Tree, CO, Susan Johnson (Walid Cheikho) of Denver, CO and Cathy Morrissey (William) of New Boston, NH; ten grandsons; four granddaughters; her sister, Mrs. Lucille Franklin of Fergus Falls, MN; and a brother, Donald G. Dick of Prior Lake, MN.
Her parents; and a brother, James R. Dick preceded her in death.
Funeral Services will be at Christ The Lord Lutheran Church at 11 AM Wednesday. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday evening and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery, Red Wing, MN.

Gordon E. "Gordy" Volkman
Gordon E. "Gordy" Volkman, 70, of Aurora, IL passed away Saturday, June 23, 2001 at Provena Mercy Center. He was born November 18, 1930 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Gordon was on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Tollway Authority. He was a former Treasurer of Kane County and a former Vice-President of Aurora National Bank. He was a member of the Optimist Club, Tiger Club, Turner Club and the Aurora Moose Lodge #400. Gordy is the President of the Aurora Pony League and a Vice-President of the World Boxing Organization (W.B.O.). He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife Dee of Aurora; a son, Jeffrey (Geralyn) Volkman of Aurora and their children, Gregory and Matthew; a daughter, Nancy (George) Gladis of Batavia, and their children, Michael, Ashley and Amy; brothers, Thomas (Jan) Volkman of Oshkosh, WI and Harold (Mary Ann) McLaughlin of St. Louis, MO; a sister-in-law, Joanne Volkman of Fond du Lac, WI; mother-in-law, Sylvia Sullivan of Aurora; and several nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Christi Ann (Montanye) Volkman; and brothers, Walter and Gerald Volkman.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 26, 2001 from 2 to 8 PM at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora, IL, 60506. A Liturgical Wake Service will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at 10 AM from St. Mary's Catholic Church, 430 E. Downer Place, Aurora, IL. Gordon will by lying in state from 9 AM until the funeral hour at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Janet L. Zange
Janet L. Zange, 61, of Algonquin, IL passed away on Monday, June 25, 2001 at Loyola University Medical Center.
She leaves behind her most devoted and beloved husband, James R. Zange; three daughters, Kelly (James) Saelens of Aberdeen, Ohio, Karen (Michael) Ells of Lombard, Illinois and Kristy (David) Huddleston of Algonquin, Illinois; a step daughter, Beth Zange of Denver, Colorado; five beloved grandchildren, Madison (the gymnast), Riley (MJ) Saelens, Cassady (toddler) Ells, Brandon (hockey player) and Alec (the swimmer) Huddleston; her mother, Anna Rozzi Ruther of Crystal Lake, Illinois; and a sister, Bernadine Molson who live in Canada.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hubert Ruther, who passed away in 1994.
Mrs. Zange graduated from St. Patrick's Academy and Momence Community High School. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University and taught in the Illinois school system for ten years. She later retired after working 20 years for an Engineering firm in Elgin, Illinois.
Since retirement, Mrs. Zange has been a volunteer at the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry and with the 'Lend A Heart' service group of St. Margaret Mary Church also in Algonquin, Illinois of which she has been a member of for 29 years. She was also a member of the church choir. She has been a member of the Algonquin Women's Club and the Friends and Neighbors Club.
Jan, as called by her friends, always told her friends not to wait until they retired to do the things they had always wanted to do. She told them to do them while they were young enough to be able to do and enjoy them. She also said to love your family with all your heart and to let them know that you love them.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 9 PM at the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Parlor in Algonquin. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 28, 2001 at 10 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Algonquin with Father Michael Tierney officiating.

Robert Walter Brossard
Robert Walter Brossard, 75, of Safety Harbor, FL, formerly of Streamwood, IL for 44 years, passed away Monday, June 24, 2002, at Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, FL. He was born August 30, 1926, in Chicago.
He was a member of the Streamwood VFW and served on S.S. New York during World War II.

Jean Gotlibowski
Jean Gotlibowski age 75 of Antioch passed away Monday, June 24, 2002 at Condell Medical Center, Libertyville. She was born June 28, 1926 in Chicago. She had been a resident of Antioch for over 10 years. She was employed by White Cap in Chicago for many years before retiring.
Surviving are her husband, Lenoard Gotlibowski; five children, Walter (Gail) Stanula of Fox Lake, Leonard (Anne) Gotlibowski of Roselle, James (Rose) Gotlibowski of West Dundee, Carol (Les) Olszynski of Sleepy Hollow, Greg (Debbie) Gotlibowski of Roselle; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Frances Kowalczyk; two brothers, Edward and Theodore Myslewliec.
Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 27, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 845 W. Main St., West Dundee. Entombment will be in St. Adalbert cemetery, Niles. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral home, 120 S. Third St. (corner of S. Third and Oregon) West Dundee and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass in the church.
Jeri Rakow Helgren
Jeri Rakow Helgren devoted mother, loyal friend and consummate hostess died June 22, 2002 after battling lung disease.
She was born March 2, 1932 in Elgin, IL, the only daughter of Len A. and Erma K. Rakow. She graduated from Elgin Academy in Illinois and attended University of Colorado in Boulder. She married
Norman Richard Helgren on April 19, 1952.
Jeri was a remarkable woman who could sew her children's clothes, do bodywork on the family station wagon, and write children's books, all while gardening and redecorating her home. But, most of all, she loved being around people. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and immediately become his or her friend. She loved to entertain and could effortlessly make dinner for 6 or 60.
Jeri had a successful twenty-year career in real estate, most recently as an agent for Prudential Real Estate of Utah. Earlier, she was involved in television production and direction at KUED and KSL in Salt Lake and WTTW in Chicago. She also helped establish Squnch House in Park City, the first day care center for skiers. Jeri was also involved with many charitable and civic organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce of Barrington, IL, Junior League, Assistance League of Salt Lake City, Women's Board of Westminster College, Ballet West, PEO and The Town Club.
Jeri is survived by her mother, Erma Rakow; brother, Craig (Donna) Rakow and five children, Jeni (George) Huhta of Palatine, IL, Mindy (James) Fransen of Barrington, IL, Peter (Debbie) Helgren of Salt Lake City, Utah, Holly (Jeff) Scheid of West Linn, Oregon, Todd (Dana) Helgren of Sandy, Utah and 12 grandchildren.
Her Husband, Father and Brother, Eugene Rakow preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 417 West Main Street, West Dundee. Interment will be at Dundee Township cemetery in East Dundee, IL.

Alfred B. Herstrum
Alfred B. Herstrum, 87, formerly of Burlington, IL passed away at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio on June 23, 2002.
Mr. Herstrum was a long time resident of Burlington, IL and taught vocational agriculture for 38 years, 25 of those years were spent in the Central High School District 301. After retiring from teaching, he worked as a hail adjuster for Country Company.
He was a member of the Genoa Masonic Lodge #288 and a Master Mason for 57 years. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa, a member of long standing with the Sycamore/DeKalb Commandery Knights Templar and a member of the Burlington Methodist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Herstrum also received an Honorary American Farmer Degree award from the Future Farmers of America.
He was the beloved husband of Emma (nee Walters) for 64 years. He is also survived by his son, Alan W. (Diane) of Rocky River, OH. He was the grandfather of Cynthia H. Clark of Woodbury, Minn. and Clay Herstrum of Arlington, WA. His sister, Gladys Chapman of River Falls, WI and two great-grandsons, John and Tommy Clark also survive him.
Preceding him in death were a son, Dean and a granddaughter, Melissa.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at the Burlington Methodist Church, Main St., Burlington, with the Rev. Soon Sun Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Burlington Twp. Union cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday prior to service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Church.
