Evelyn M. Metzger
Evelyn M. Metzger, 83, of Green Bay, Wisc., formerly of Elgin, passed away Monday, June 9, 2003, at Parkview Manor, Green Bay. She was born January 1, 1920, in Chicago, the daughter of George and Ragna Brown Simonson.
She had been a resident of Elgin for 50 years and had been a resident of Green Bay for the past two years. Evelyn and her husband John Metzger were instrumental in developing the Sherwood Oaks Subdivision in Elgin.
Surviving are one daughter, Susan (Bob) Reifsnyder of Silverthorne, Colo.; one son, George (Mary) Metzger of Green Bay; four grandchildren, Karen (Joe) Galler of Chanhassen, Minn., Paula (Robert) Leland of Eau Claire, Wisc., Anne Metzger of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Alex Ryan of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Russell (Myra) Simonson of Chicago and one brother-in-law, Jack Cross of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Gwen Cross and one brother, Charles Simonson.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 30, 2003, from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private in Elmwood cemetery, River Grove.

Roy Gunnar Nyman
Roy Gunnar Nyman, 61, of Elgin, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at his home. He was born May 15, 1942, in Elgin, the son of Gunnar and Anna Sandbloom Nyman.
He had been employed as a truck driver by Alumax for 38 years, Cardinal Freight for two years and Meyers Motors for two years. He enjoyed going to the Blackhawk Campground in Wisconsin on weekends for the past 23 years, wood working and working on cars.
Surviving are his wife, Suzanna Rybak Nyman, whom he married
on June 21, 1986; three children, Laurie (Kendall) Hall, Tina (David) Sell and Timothy Nyman; six grandchildren, Brandi Hall, Tamara Sell and Dustin Sell, Michael Latimer, Sheila Schaub and Kevin Shaub; step-children, Virginia (Kenneth) Lalonda, Ronald (Michelle) Shaub and Cynthia (David) Latimer; one sister, Mary Ellen (Dale) Pelton and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill and Bob Nyman.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 28, at 12 noon at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Elgin with Rev. Darlis Swan officiating. Burial will be in Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services in the church.

Jean E. Schwarzwalder
Jean E. Schwarzwalder, 83 of Elgin passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2003 in her home. She was born May 29, 1920 in Tilden, Nebraska the daughter of Fred and Ida Schroeder Ruegge. She had been a resident of Elgin for the past 60 years. She met her husband Roger J. Schwarzwalder at the Elgin National Watch Co. and they were married
in 1942.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Elgin.
Surviving are two daughters, Diane (Robert) Moline of Bellevue, WA, Linda Zupek of Elgin; one son, Steven (Paula) Schwarzwalder of Wellsboro, PA; six grandchildren, Melissa (Michael) Thornton, Megan (Jeff) Turner, Scott Zupek, Julie (Artures) Hernandez, Brian and Ellen Schwarzwalder; five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Alec, Kaitlin, Emily and Ashley; one brother, Earl (Hazel) Ruegge of Elgin; one sister-in-law, Jean Scott of Brandon, FL; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years, Roger in 1990; four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services in the church.
Michael A. Smith
Michael A. Smith, 47 of Island Lake, formerly of South Elgin and Carpentersville, passed away June 19, 2003 at the home of his brother, Paul.
He was the loving son of Marion Smith of Sommerville, SC and Jack Smith of Chicago, IL; fond brother of Jack (Juline), Mark (Rachel), Paul (Melody); fond uncle of Gregory Smith of Carpentersville, Catherine Smith of Chicago. He is also survived by James (Barbara) Moss, Ethel O'Dell, Betty Livingston, Dorothy Youll, Linda Baumgart, Irene (Wally) Odzana, Lee (Ann) Carter, Wayne Carter and Warren Carter, cousins and many friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 27 at 11:00 a.m. at 3002 W. Rt. 120, McHenry. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice Center of Northeastern Illinois.
Richard "Rick" L. Blanken
Richard "Rick" L. Blanken, 49, of Crystal Lake died Tuesday, June 26, 2001 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
He was born Nov. 14, 1951 in Elgin, the son of Del and Arlene (Piper) Blanken.
He was a graduate of Crystal Lake Central High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1971-1972.
Survivors include two sons, Deric and Micheal Blanken, both of Crystal Lake; his mother, Arlene Blanken of Crystal Lake; three sisters, Barbara Blanken of Crystal Lake, Joan (Michael) Bentley of Spring Grove and Jane Blanken of Crystal Lake; and a nephew, Travis Blanken of Crystal Lake.
He was preceded in death by his father, Del on Sept. 8, 1994.
Funeral Services will be 8 p.m., Friday in the Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, the Rev. Paul Schuth officiating. Interment will be 10 a.m., Saturday in the Union cemetery, Crystal Lake.
Visitation will be 5 p.m., Friday until the time of services in the funeral home.

William "Buffalo" Eggen
William "Buffalo" Eggen, 53, of Schaumburg passed away Monday, June 25, 2001 in his home.
He was born July 2, 1947 in Elgin, the son of Floyd and Virginia WasingerEggen.
He served in the US Army during Vietnam.
Survivors include his parents; his wife, Mary; little faithful companion "Gretchen"; and a sister, Mary Kay (Ken) Blumenstock of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and a brother, Terry.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Friday in the Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin, the Rev. Thomas Niermannofficiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m., Thursday in the funeral home.

Jerry R. Hayward
Jerry R. Hayward, 91, of Elgin passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2001 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born September 3, 1909 in Fennimore, WI, the son of William and Nellie Mae Oleson Hayward.
He had been a resident of the Elgin and Geneva areas since 1914. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army as an instructor at the Armored Replacement Training Center, Ft. Knox, KY.
Jerry and his wife, Gladys, were the co-owners of the Original Geneva Industries in Geneva. They were then associated with the Late Robert Alexander, a major housing developer, managing the sales of over 2700 new homes in Streamwood. Hayward Avenue in Streamwood is named for Jerry and Gladys. He was a member of American Legion Post 57 in Elgin and he was an avid expert fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Ehrp Hayward, whom he married
on October 5, 1935; a son, William E. (Elizabeth) Hayward of Portland, Oregon; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Heather; a brother, Virgil A. (Mabel) Hayward of Elgin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen Mae Hayward, Vera Hayward Schutte and Dorothy Hayward Rover; and a brother, Charles W. Hayward.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, June 29, 2001 at 11 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Sung Ja Moon officiating. Burial will be private in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will be at the time of services only.
William E. Holtz
William E. Holtz, 92 of West Dundee died Tuesday, June 26, 2001 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born in East Dundee on Feb. 24, 1909, the son of Charles and Minnie (nee Kroeplin) Holtz.
Mr. Holtz was a lifelong resident of Dundee, a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of East Dundee; a member of the Lutheran Laymens League; the Immanuel Men's Club; a former member of the finance committee serving as a offering teller. He was a former 24 year employee of Flexonics and retired in 1974.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ella M. (nee Schumacher), whom he married
on May 7, 1931; a son, James(Dolores) Holtz of Elgin; a daughter, Mary (the late Phil) Eickhoff of Carol Stream; a granddaughter, Susan (Patrick) Bosse of Glendale Heights; three grandsons,Jeffery (Pam) Holtz of Hampshire, David (Jill) Holtz of Elgin and Gary (Raelynn) Eickhoff of Bolingbrook; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jessica & Jamie Bosse, Sophie and Garrett Holtz; a sister, Marion (Donald) Blank of East Dundee; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Phil Eickhoff; three sisters, Martha Bentley, Hilda Holtz and Henrietta Hanson; and four brothers, Henry, Walter, Otto and Charles, Jr.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Friday in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, the Rev. Scott Seidler officiating. Burial will be in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m., Thursday in the funeral home.

Alice M. McKenzie
Alice M. McKenzie, 82. died June 26, 2001 at Phoenix, Arizona.
She was a long time resident of the Dundee/Elgin area, an elementary school teacher for 29 years at Sunny Hill School in Carpentersville, until her retirement in 1986 when she moved to Phoenix, Arizona. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Elgin.
Mrs. McKenzie is survived by a daughter Lynda Barras of Chino Valley, Az.; two sons, Larry McKenzie of Hampshire, IL. and Roger McKenzie of Dundee. One sister, Louise Trout of Paxton, IL. Six grandchildren & seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, James McKenzie of Bali, Indonesia.
Funeral service will be at 4:00 P.M., Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until time of service. Memorial preferred to the American Heart Association.
Interment, Woodlawn cemetery, Indianola, Illinois.
Evelyn Cavanaugh Balkey
Evelyn Cavanaugh Balkey of Elgin, formerly of Arlington Heights died June 26, 2002 at Sherman Hospital. Born August 31, 1920 in Palatine, IL.
She enjoyed golfing, knitting and reading. preceded in death by her husband, Regis.
Survived by her children, Janet (James) Schumacher of Cave Creek, AZ and Beverly (Ken) Valentine of Wheaton, IL; grandchildren, Robert, Barbara, Judith, Deborah, Janie, Richard and Jeffrey; 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; siblings, Jeanne (Warren) Schild of West Yellowstone, Montana and Charles (Norma) Rasmusen of Albuquerqe, NM.
Visitation will be Saturday June 29, 2002 at 11 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 noon at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Rd. (at Stearns Rd.), Bartlett, IL.
