Edwin W. Becker
Edwin W. Becker, 80, of South Elgin passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2001 in the Firwood Health Care Center, Batavia.
He was born December 19, 1920 in Genoa, IL, the son of William and Mary Beurer Becker.
He had been a resident of South Elgin since 1988. He had farmed in the Burlington area for 20 years and was employed by the Hampshire and St. Charles Post Office as a rural letter carrier before retiring. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Elgin where he had served as Elder. He was a member of American Legion Post #57 of Elgin and was a member of the V.F.W. Post in South Elgin and was Past District Commander of District 5.
Surviving are his wife, Edna Kamholz Becker, whom he married on November 3, 1940; four daughters, Barbara (John) Kiehl of Elgin, Dorothy (Frank) Heinz of Rock Falls, IL, Lynn (Steve) Robertson of Sleepy Hollow and Karen (Dan) Adams of Shell Knob, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Wallace Johnson, Jr, Mark Johnson, Tracy (Gary) Walton, Pam (Mike) Jimenez, Brian Heinz, Tamara (Dean) Lanham, Kim Robertson, Michael and Nathan Feldmann; seven great grandchildren; and a sister, Alma Wittmus of Palmyra, Missouri,
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Victoria Scherer; and three brothers, Ralph and Alvin Becker and a brother in infancy.
Funeral Services will be Friday at 11 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Roger Pollock officiating. Burial will be in Hampshire Center cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Hour.

Duane N. "Dewey" Clute
Duane N. "Dewey" Clute, 62, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born February 18, 1939 in Elgin, the son of Nelson and Emily Munch Clute.
He had been a resident of Elgin all of his life. He was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1957 and was a graduate of Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa. He had been very active in the Theatre for many years, and had been employed by Munch's Home Health Care for several years and had been employed by School District U-46 for the past two years as a bus driver. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 57 of Elgin, the Owls Club of Elgin and the Delta Phi Rho Fraternity.
Surviving are three sisters, Marilyn (Sam) Ciaccio of Elgin, Elaine Ostdick of South Elgin and Sandra Clute of Elgin; a brother, Richard (Barbara) Clute of Englewood, FL; and 19 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, James Ostdick; a niece, Jennifer Clute-Jones; a great niece, Kateland Steurer; and a great nephew, Jacob Steurer.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 11 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Paul Meyers officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 PM.
Memorials may be given to American Legion Post 57 of The Building Fund at Cornerstone United Methodist Church.

Nancy Emmitt
Nancy Emmitt, age 63, of Elgin, IL and of Hayward, WI died Thursday, July 5, 2001 at her home in Elgin.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2001 at the Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home in Hayward with Rev. Chet Hoversten officiating. Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral homes. Interment will be in the Greenwood cemetery in Hayward.

Doris L. Hill
Doris L. Hill, 89, of Elgin died Tuesday, July 3, 2001 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
She was born May 7, 1912 in Elgin, the daughter of Charles and Hilda Hill.
She had been a resident of Elgin all her life. She had been a resident of Elgin all her life. She had been employed by the State of Illinois for many years before retiring. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Hill of Marengo; two nieces, Cheri (Fred) Moloznik of Lake in the Hills and Marilyn (Bob) Jahraus of Northbrook; two nephews, Charles (Barb) Hill of Fontana, Wis. and Bob (Renee) Hill of Marengo; and great-nieces and nephews, Amy, Jeff, John, Rob, Jessica and Chris.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Dolby; and two brothers, Walter and Herbert Hill.
Memorial Services will be 5 p.m., Sunday, July 8 in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the Rev. Scott Chinburg officiating. Private burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be at the time of services only. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Tod W. Hopphan
Tod W. Hopphan, 37, of Aurora passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 30, 2001.
He was born November 24, 1963 in Aurora, the son of Carl and the late Norma Hopphan.
Tod was a 1981 graduate of West Aurora High School. He then attained a degree in Turf Management from the University of Illinois in 1986. He worked as a Golf Superintendent for the Aurora Country Club, Evanston Country Club, Eaglebrook Country Club and was currently employed at the Elgin Country Club. Tod had recently achieved his professional certified Golf Superintendent status. He was also a devoted member of Blackberry Creek Community Church in Aurora.
Survivors include his wife, Debra (Terrazas) Hopphan of Aurora; three children, Chad, Jenna and Claire Hopphan of Aurora; his father, Carl Hopphan of Elmwood Park, IL.; a brother, John (Robin) Sunleaf of Yorkville; a sister, Sue (Howie) Taekman of California; as well as an uncle, Hans Hopphan of Aurora.
Tod was preceded in death by his mother, Norma in 1983.
A Memorial Service will be 11:00A.M. on Saturday, July 7, 2001 at Morningstar Community Church, corner of Barnes Rd. & Prairie St., Aurora with Rev. Eric Van Der Ploeg officiating. A reception will take place at the church following the service. Interment will be private.

Harriet J. Johnson
Harriet J. Johnson, 88, of Elgin, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 in the home of her son.
She was born Dec. 22, 1912 in Wayne, the daughter of Clarence and Harriet (nee Loucks) Trull.
She was a 1928 graduate of Elgin High School, was retired from Illinois Bell Telephone after 33 years as an operator-clerk, later working for Family Services of Elgin as a Friendly Visitor, was involved with Good News Club, Telephone Pioneers, Evangelical Covenant Church of Elgin and Covenant Church Groups.
Survivors include her son, Richard (Patricia) Johnson of Elmhurst; a daughter, Jane (Larry) Weber of New Platz, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold T. Johnson (a Survivor of the Titanic), whom she married on March 28, 1931 and who preceded her on April 10, 1968; and her brother, George Trull.
Funeral Services will be 9 a.m., Saturday, July 7 at Evangelical Covenant Church, 1565 Larkin Ave., Elgin, the Rev. Herbert Hedstrom officiating. Burial will be in Little Woods cemetery, Wayne.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m., Friday in the Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Chapel.
Memorials could be made to theAmerican Heart Association or to the Evangelical Covenant Church of Elgin.

Erwin F. Mueller III
Erwin F. Mueller III, 57, of Burlington, passed away suddenly Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
He was born March 6, 1944 in Chicago, the son of Erwin and Betty (Schrader) Mueller.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. "Erv" married Patricia A. Troxel on July 3, 1971 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin. Mr. Mueller was a construction Supervisor for several builders in the Chicago and suburban areas and a member of Carpenters Union Local #363. He was also Chairman of the Burlington Planning Commission and assisted in the operation of the Burlington Water Department. He was a member and Elder of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Burlington and loved participating in the Bell Choir. His favorite hobby was garden railroading with live steam and he headed the Midwest Garden Steamers Club.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia; four children, Nancy (Paul) Firby of California, James Geiser of Alaska, Rhonda "Sue" (Paul) Christensen of Genoa and Rebecca Kos of Burlington; his father of Sun City, AZ; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara (Tom) Wilson of Seattle, WA and Deborah (Phil) Kelly of Denver, CO.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty; and step mother, Diane Mueller.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 7, 2001 at the St. John's Lutheran Church, 13N535 French Rd, in Burlington with the Rev. Dr. Henry DeQuin officiating. Cremation will follow services.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Friday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire and at the church on Saturday prior to services from 10 to 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the St. John's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 85, Burlington, IL, 60109.

Gale H. Randall
Gale H. Randall, 71, of North Port, Fla., formerly of Bartlett died Wednesday, June 20, 2001 in Hospice House of Venice.
He was born July 22, 1929 in Elgin. He was a resident of Bartlett for 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara (nee Allen) Randall; three sons, Michael Randall of Tuscon, Ariz., Steve Randall of Hanover Park and Jim Randall of Lake in the Hills; a daughter, Sue (Dan)Putignano of Elgin; five grandchildren, Megan, Kim and Tyler Putignano of Elgin and Jeff and Michelle Randall of Tuscon, Ariz. and a brother, Arland (Marion) Randall of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Randall and his mother, Nina (nee Nesler) Randall.
Memorial Services will be 8 p.m., Friday, July 6 in Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 950 S. Bartlett Rd. (at Stearns Rd.), Bartlett.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, July 6 in the funeral home.

Douglas Schuring
Douglas Schuring, 32, of Huntley, passed away Thursday in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born October 14, 1968 in Elgin and was the son of Charles and Donna Schuring. Doug was employed with Illinois Brick. Doug was a loving husband and devoted father, and will be dearly missed by all. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elgin.
Survivors include his wife, Amy (Whalen), whom he married on July 29, 1995; two children, Nathaniel and Rachel, both at home; mother, Donna (Jack) Schuring Redmer of Dundee; two brothers, Rev. David (Rhonda) Schuring, of Toledo, OH; Paul (Maria) Schuring of Crystal Lake, IL; two sisters, Julie (Mike) Giardino and Lora Timmons both of Elgin; maternal grandmother, Margaret Root of East Dundee, IL; 12 nieces and nephews; mother and father in law, Scott and Judy Whalen of Elgin; two brothers in law, Stephen and Danny Whalen both of Elgin; sister in law, Christine Whalen of Elgin; grandmother in law, Phyllis Whalen of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Schuring.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church, Elgin with Rev. Michael Frantz officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the Church starting at 11:30 A.M. until the time of services. Omission of flowers is requested, with memorials made to the Children's Education Fund. Laird Funeral Home in Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
