Gertrude Vaughn Knief
Gertrude Vaughn Knief, 98, of Fort Lauderdale, formerly of Burlington, passed away Friday, July 4, 2003 in her home.
She was born February 10, 1905 in Hinckley, IL the daughter of Warren and Ida (Reimensnider) Landers. She graduated from Elgin Business College and married
Bryon A. Knief on June 11, 1930 in her parents' home in Lily Lake. Mrs. Knief lived in Burlington until moving to Fort Lauderdale in 1975.
She enjoyed reading and keeping current on world affairs. She was an avid bridge player, an enthusiastic Miami Hurricane football fan, and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are her children, Lowell (Marita) Knief of Burlington, Bryon (Rebecca Robertson) Knief of New York City, and Patricia Adams of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Mark Knief of Manila, The Philippines, Ashley (Emmanuel) Javoque of Miami Beach, FL, Thomas (Beth) Knief of Burlington, IL, Alexis (Timothy) Olyphant of Los Angeles, CA, Alyssa (Bernard) Mosconi of Hollywood, CA, Brigitte Adams of Miami, FL, Robert (Annette) Knief of Olathe, KS, Alexandra Brooke Adams of Ft. Lauderdale, Bryon Lucius "Luke" Knief of New York City; great grandchildren, Bianca and Melody Javoque, Grace, Henry and Vivian Olyphant, Justin Mosconi, Ryan Knief, and Kelly Vaughn Knief; sisters, Hazel Swanberg and Virginia Hoyt of DeKalb, IL; sister-in-law, Norda Landers of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bryon A. in 1965, granddaughter Jennifer Adams in infancy; brother, Wayne Landers; and brothers-in-law, Everett Swanberg and Robert Hoyt.
Funeral services will beheld at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at St. John Lutheran Church, 13N535 French Rd., Burlington with Pastor Howard Gleason officiating. Burial will be in the Burlington TWP. Union cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the St. John Lutheran Church in Burlington and prior to services on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Ruth Radloff
Ruth Radloff, 52, of South Elgin passed away Saturday, July 5, 2003 in Sherman Hospital. She was born April 21, 1951 in Elgin and was the daughter of William and Hazel Wolf. She was a pre-school teacher at Learning Tree West in Elgin. She was a devoted wife, mother and she lived her life for her grandchildren. Member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Elgin and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are her husband, Fredrick "Rick" Radloff, three daughters, Laurie (Michael) Van Bogaert of South Elgin, Meredith (Clint) Hartigan of Rockford, IL and Dawn (Jason) Andrews of Bath, ME, one son, Fredrick "Ricky" (Roxanne) Radloff Jr. of Carpentersville, IL, six grandchildren, Ryan, Angelee, Jessica, Brandon, Dylan, Christian, two sisters, Kay Wolf of Elgin, Linda (Eugene) Banke of Elgin.
Preceded by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with Rev. Thomas O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in Union cemetery, Union, IL. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Cancer Research Hospital for Children.
LeRoy C. "Lee" Williamson
LeRoy C. "Lee" Williamson, 82 of Elgin passed away Friday, July 4, 2003 at his home. He was born April 28, 1921 in Elgin the son of Carl O. and Esther M. Johnson Williamson. He had been a resident of Elgin for most of his life. He had been employed by United Airlines as a pilot for 43 years before retiring. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corp. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Elgin.

July 16, 1944, two daughters, Judith (Joseph) Lambert of Chicago and Sharon Williamson of Elgin, one son, Robert (Cynthia) Williamson of Hoffman Estates, three grandchildren, Joseph Lambert Jr. (Elizabeth Ciolino), Jessica Lambert and Jason (Tamela) Lambert, two great grandchildren, Ashwin and Nathan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister in infancy.
Private Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Olin Sletto officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
James Franklin Carter, Sr.
James Franklin Carter, Sr., 67, of Harrisburg, IL, formerly of Elgin, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2004 at his home. He was born November 29, 1936 in Paulsboro, New Jersey, son of Raymond and Blanche (Reynolds) Carter.
James married
the former Barbria Bell on October 25, 1958. James served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Gayles Memorial Baptist Church in Aurora and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, whether alone or with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Barbria Carter of Harrisburg, IL; his children, Carol Thomas of Aurora, IL, Gary Carter of Tucson, AZ and James Carter Jr. of Harrisburg, Anita Carter and Lorinda Carter both of Elgin, IL; grandchildren, Seandell Bristo and Nathan Carter both of Aurora, Raymond Hartmann of Milwaukee, WI, Christopher Carter of Tucson, AZ, Kevin Thomas of Aurora, IL, Gregory Echols Jr. and Lawrence Echols both of Elgin, IL, Stephanie Carter of Tucson, AZ, Samantha Carter of Harrisburg, IL, Nina Thomas of Aurora, IL, Kamri Veal, Kayla Veal and Barbria Echols all of Elgin, IL; a sister, Virginia Warren of Camden, NJ; a brother, John Clifton of Philadelphia, PA; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Diondre Ticer; a son Donnell Carter; a brother, John Clifton; and a sister, Alberta Carter.

Jay William Goedert
Jay William Goedert, 44, of Elgin passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004 in his home. He was born on May 9, 1960 in Elgin and was the son of George H. and Ruth Urie Goedert. He was married
to Susan Hyser of Elgin.
Jay was a graduate of Elgin High School and North Central College. Early in his career, he served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Elgin Community College and Elgin High High School. Jay was an assistant men's basketball coach at Northern Illinois University. For ten years, he served as an assistant men's coach at DePaul University. Jay was also Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel for the Magic City Snowbears, a semi-pro basketball team in Minot, ND. Since 1998, he has been employed as Director of Marketing for DrugCard, Inc. in Naperville.
He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Elgin.
He is survived by his wife, best friend and soul mate of 20 years, Susan; his dear mother, Ruth Goedert; his cousins, Lawrence (Delores) Kaptain of Columbus, GA and Drew (Kathy) Kaptain of Hamden, CT; two brothers-in-laws, Dr. Matthew (Sonia) Hyser of Deerfield and Chris Hyser of Long Beach, CA; his father-in-law, Nicholas Hyser of Elgin; two nephews, Emiliano and Diego Kaptain; three nieces, Elise and Jennifer Hyser, and Sierra Kaptain; and his god-daughter, Mara Kupelian.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Goedert, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4-9 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Friday in the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be made to the Elgin Historical Society or a charity of one's choice.
Susan Heinking
Susan Heinking, 88, of Wausau, WI died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at Wausau Hospital. She was born December 10, 1915 in Elgin, IL to the late James and Marion (Jensen) Allen. On April 3, 1937, Susan married
Forrest Heinking at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Chicago. After living a number of years in Maywood, IL, they retired as owners of Home Sweet Home Resort in Rhinelander, WI. Forrest preceded her in death on February 11, 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Wayne) Ellison of Oswego, IL; two sons, James (Nelva) Heinking of Hanover Park, IL and Kevin (Marie) Heinking of Wausau; a daughter-in-law, Gail Heinking of Mt. Prospect, IL; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Allen of Elgin, IL; and a sister-in-law, Cecelia Keil of Barrington, IL.
Funeral services will be Noon Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Conboy Funeral Home, Westchester, IL. Interment will be in Glen Oak cemetery, Hillside, IL. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 AM until the time of services.

Frances E. Leetzow
Frances E. Leetzow, 88 of Elgin passed away Monday, July 5, 2004 at Rosewood Care Center, St. Charles. She was born October 31, 1915 in Elgin, the daughter of William Edna Rahn Lee.
She had been a resident of Elgin for all of her life, except from 1956 until 1975, when she had lived in St. Charles. She had been employed by the Elgin National Watch Company for 33 years and then DuKane Corp. in St. Charles, until retiring in 1977.
Surviving are her daughter, Virginia (Jean) Theissing of St. Charles; four grandchildren, Brett Theissing of Gurnee, Corinn (Lee) Hilbert of Algonquin, Eric (Mary) Theissing of Cortland, IL and Marcus Theissing of St. Charles; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lawrence (Mary) Lee of Montana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil; grandson, Jean Theissing; and a sister, Alice Groover.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 9 at 1:45 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Friday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services, Elgin.
Lucille Lucas
Lucille Lucas, 92, of Elgin passed away Friday, July 2, 2004 in her home. She was born on December 22, 1911 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of John and Catherine Lubinski Bolka. Lucille had been a resident of Elgin since 1976 and had been employed with Danielson Accounting of Oakland, CA prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church of Elgin, Catholic Daughters, a member and Past President of the Woodlawn Post #175 American Legion Auxiliary in Chicago, IL and the Ladies of the Elks Lodge #737 of Elgin.
Survivors include three children, Mary Kathleen (Stuart) Eckhaus, William (Nancy) Lucas Jr. and James Lucas all of Elgin; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William R. Lucas Sr.; two sisters, Eleanor Bolka and Irene Somogye; and two brothers, Joseph and Edward Bolka.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at 12 Noon in the St. Laurence Catholic Church (corner of Jewett and Standish Sts.), Elgin with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Rita Penca-Marshall
Rita Penca-Marshall, 58, of Crystal Lake passed away Saturday, July 3, 2004 in Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, WI. She was born on February 8, 1946 in Waukegan, IL and was the daughter of Frank and Valeria Penca. Along with her husband, she was the owner and operator of the Celebration Center in West Dundee, IL. Rita will be missed for her loving and caring ways.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon Marshall, with whom she was a partner in business and in life; her mother, Valeria Penca of Algonquin, IL; four sisters, Patricia (Vern) Gaugush of Wausau, WI, Barbara Sanofsky of Roscoe, IL, Fran (James) Cash of Tacoma, WA and Nancy Penca of Waterloo, IA; her mother-in-law, Mae Marshall of St. Charles, IL; sister-in-law, Mary (Gary) Zalay of Hoffman Estates, IL; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Forrest W. Owen
Forrest W. Owen passed away July 3, 2004. He was born in Watertown, WI on January 21, 1911, the son of Wallace W. Owen and Elizabeth Iffland.
He resided in Elgin, IL from 1930 to 1991. During this time, he was employed by the Illinois Division of Highways, Elgin District Office. Mr. Owen served in the Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. In 1991, He moved to West Bend.
He is a member of St. James Episcopal Church, West Bend; Elks Lodge #57 of Fond du Lac; Circus Fans Association of America; American Legion, West Bend; Circus World Museum, Baraboo; and Milwaukee Road Historical Society.
Several nieces and nephews, and his very special friend and companion, Grace, survive Mr. Owen.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Florence Walt Owen in 1989; his parents; and two sisters, Myrtle Sabel of Fond du Lac and Doris Bartsch of San Diego.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at St. James Episcopal Church with the Rev. Russell Arnett officiating. Gathering will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be later in the week at Oak Hill cemetery, Watertown, WI. Phillip Funeral Home and Cremation Services of West Bend assisting the family.
Vernette L. Reuss
Vernette L. Reuss, 84, of Algonquin passed away Monday, July 5, 2004 at her home. She was born April 14, 1920 to the late August and Clara Grever in Ela Township, Illinois. She married
the late Omer E. Reuss on August 21, 1942. She was employed by the Jewel Tea Company in Barrington, IL for 25 years, was a member of the Algonquin Senior Center and was an active member of the Congregational Church of Algonquin.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynn (Frederick) Semkiu of East Dundee; a son, David (Geri) Reuss of Huntingwood, MI; sisters, Hermine (late William) Sloan of Glendora, CA and Frances Prow of Salem, OR; grandchildren, Nathan Reuss, Marisa Semkiu, and Nadia (Kelly) Komp; and great grandson, Noah Semkiu.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Albert, Henry, Walter, Edward, August Jr., Alfred and Barth Sheehan; sisters, Emma and Virginia Grever; and step sister, Luella Springinsguth.
Visitation will be Friday, July 9, 2004 9 AM until the time of Funeral services at 11 AM at the Congregational Church of Algonquin, 109 Washington St., Algonquin.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, Hospice of Northeastern Illinois or the Congregational Church of Algonquin.
