Phyllis R. Scholes
Phyllis R. Scholes, 75, of Aurora, formerly of East Dundee passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001 at Provena McAuley Manor.
She was born Sept. 15, 1925 in Elgin, the daughter of the late Edward andHulda (Rahn) Mertens.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas Scholes of North Aurora, Gary (Carrie) Scholes of Batavia and David Scholes of North Aurora; four grandchildren, Jason Scholes, Leigh, Jodi (Jason) Merkel and Mark Scholes; a great-grandchild, Sarah Merkel; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; a brother, Edward Mertens; and her step-father, Victor Berna.
Private graveside services were held at Lincoln Memorial Park.

Raymond W. Vlazny
Raymond W. Vlazny, 88, of Elgin passed away Friday, July 6, 2001 in the Heritage Manor, Elgin.
He was born August 12, 1912 in Chicago, the son of James and Mary Vlazny.
He had been a resident of Elgin since 1925 and had been employed by Williams Manufacturing in Elgin before retiring.
Surviving are his two sisters, Dorothy Polashek of Elgin and Sylvia Vlazny of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James Vlazny.
Private Graveside Services will be held Tuesday in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. There will be no visitation.

Curt Johnson
"The Captain"
"The Captain" Curt Johnson, 48 years of Antioch, IL passed away Sunday, July 6, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin, IL after a valiant fight with medullary thyroid cancer. He was born December 23, 1954 in Chicago, the son of Walter and Alice (Hellberg) Johnson. He had been a life long resident of Antioch where he graduated from Grass Lake Grade School and was a 1973 graduate of Antioch Community High School. He owned Roundabout Records from 1977 to 1983, was a sales manager for Sound & Video Unlimited, then worked for Thelen Sand and Gravel from 1985 to 1997, and currently was the owner of Captain Curt's Pub and Grill since 1997. Curt was a member of the Tavern Owners Association, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #525 of Antioch, the Antioch & Lake Villa Pool League and had been on the ski patrol at Wilmot Mountain in the 1980's and 1990's.
He is survived by his daughter, Courtney Johnson of Antioch; his father, Walter (Lenora) Johnson of Zapata, TX, his mother, Alice Huehl of Elgin, IL; two sisters, Christine (Richard )Kumler of Elgin and Karin Kovell of Fox Lake.
A funeral celebration will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, July 10, 2003 at The STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83). Visitation will be held from 4 until 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to the Medullary Cancer Research Fund c/o ThyCa Survivors Association Research Fund, P.O. Box 1545 New York, NY 10159-1545 in his memory.
Margarett Ann Kennedy
Margarett Ann Kennedy, 88, of Elgin, IL died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
She was born February 24, 1915 in Boulder, IL to Franklin Marion and Emma (King) Cole. Margarett retired in 1982 from Hoffer Plastics in S. Elgin. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elgin. She and her husband, Clifford owned and operated the "Karry-Out Restaurant" for some 15 years.
She is survived by her son, Cary (Coleen) Kennedy of Elgin; her daughters, Barbara Kennedy and Carolyn (Robert) Brackett both of Elgin; six grandchildren, Kari (Thom) Gippert of Woodstock, Michele Brackett of Chicago, Megan Kennedy of Elgin, Petty Officer 3rd Class Aaron Kennedy - US Navy, Matthew Rosenkrans of Elgin, Erin (Bryan) Sanders of Mesa, AZ; a great-grandson, Andrew Gippert of Woodstock and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford L. Kennedy whom she married
in 1942 and who preceded in death her in 1965; a brother, George Cole; and two sisters, Cleo Dickman and Flossie Meek.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 10 at 10 a.m. at Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Chapel. Rev. Larry Pickens of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment at Bluff City cemetery. Visitation on Wednesday, July 9 between 4 and 8 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials in her name may be made to First United Methodist Church Radio Ministry.
Felicia Diane Perry
Felicia Diane Perry, 27 of Elgin passed away with her loving family by her side at her home. She was born February 15, 1976 to Burke Lake and Barbra Perry in Elgin.
Survivors include her parents; one sister, Heather Lake; seven children, Desmond, Domineek, Deleshia, Darius, Mirical Perry, Latisha & Tacuma Evans; Grandparents, Precious Lake of AL and Onealia & Samuel Smith of MS; a host of cousins, aunts & uncles, nieces and nephews; Special Loving Friend Tacuma Evans; best friend Rocelle Wilder.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Latisha Lake; one grandfather, Henry Lake; one aunt, Lena Smith; two uncles, Robert and Samuel Smith.
Services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at BETHESDA CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST, 454 Hickory Place, Elgin, 60120. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. when services begin.

Ruth Radloff
Ruth Radloff, 52, of South Elgin passed away Saturday, July 5, 2003 in Sherman Hospital. She was born April 21, 1951 in Elgin and was the daughter of William and Hazel Wolf. She was a pre-school teacher at Learning Tree West in Elgin. She was a devoted wife, mother and she lived her life for her grandchildren. Member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Elgin and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are her husband, Fredrick "Rick" Radloff, three daughters, Laurie (Michael) Van Bogaert of South Elgin, Meredith (Clint) Hartigan of Rockford, IL and Dawn (Jason) Andrews of Bath, ME, one son, Fredrick "Ricky" (Roxanne) Radloff Jr. of Carpentersville, IL, six grandchildren, Ryan, Angelee, Jessica, Brandon, Dylan, Christian, two sisters, Kay Wolf of Elgin, Linda (Eugene) Banke of Elgin.
Preceded by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with Rev. Thomas O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in Union cemetery, Union, IL. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Cancer Research Hospital for Children.
LeRoy C. "Lee" Williamson
LeRoy C. "Lee" Williamson, 82 of Elgin passed away Friday, July 4, 2003 at his home. He was born April 28, 1921 in Elgin the son of Carl O. and Esther M. Johnson Williamson. He had been a resident of Elgin for most of his life. He had been employed by United Airlines as a pilot for 43 years before retiring. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corp. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Elgin.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Johnson Williamson whom he married
July 16, 1944, two daughters, Judith (Joseph) Lambert of Chicago and Sharon Williamson of Elgin, one son, Robert (Cynthia) Williamson of Hoffman Estates, three grandchildren, Joseph Lambert Jr. (Elizabeth Ciolino), Jessica Lambert and Jason (Tamela) Lambert, two great grandchildren, Ashwin and Nathan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister in infancy.
Private Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Olin Sletto officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Helen Wilmes
Helen Wilmes, 86 of Elgin, formerly of Long Grove, IL, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2003 in the Apostolic Christian Rest Haven Nursing Home in Elgin. She was born September 2, 1916 in Chicago and was the daughter of John and Hazel Earle.
She had been a resident of Long Grove for many years and a resident of Elgin for the past 12 years.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Hospital Aux. where she volunteered for 35 years in the Catchpenny Shop.
Surviving are one son, Dick (Liz) Wilmes of Elgin; one daughter, Judith Wilmes of Readstown, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Eric and Greg; two sisters, Corky Normann of Huntington Beach, California and Pat (David) Pamp of Olympia, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arthur.
Private family services were held. Laird Funeral Home in Elgin was in charge of services.
Knud-Erik Andersen
Knud-Erik Andersen, 83 of Lake Geneva, WI, formerly of Elgin passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2004 in the Provena St. Joseph Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 4, 1920 in Aarhus, Denmark and was the son of Knud and Pauline (Nielsen) Andersen.
Knud-Erik married
LaVerne (Jessien) on March 1, 1947 in Aarhus, Denmark and they spent their honeymoon aboard the SS Batory en route to America, and settled in Elgin.
He was employed by Modern Dairy Company of Elgin and Burgess Norton of Geneva, IL. After raising four daughters, Knud-Erik and LaVerne moved to Mountain Home, AR for 17 years, where he worked for Fisher Scientific Company. Upon his retirement, they returned to reside in Lake Geneva, WI.
As a young man in Denmark, he enjoyed playing soccer on the National Soccer Team. Prior to his battles with emphysema and Alzheimer's, he loved camping, sailing, tennis, and ping-pong. He was also a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lake Geneva, WI.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, LaVerne; four daughters, Christine of Elgin, Paula Jo (Chuck) Tyburk of Lake Geneva, WI, Jessie (Mike) Stephens of Elgin and Lisa (Scott) Klingberg of Elgin; five grandchildren, Johanne and Erik Stephens, Zachary, Drew and Troy Klingberg; two sisters, Vibeke Caspersen and Ida Bredal, both of Denmark; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held on July 10, 2004 at 11:00 AM in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1229 Park Row, Lake Geneva, WI 53147. The Family will receive people from 10:00 AM until the time of services in the church. A luncheon will follow. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
James Franklin Carter, Sr.
James Franklin Carter, Sr., 67, of Harrisburg, IL, formerly of Elgin, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2004 at his home. He was born November 29, 1936 in Paulsboro, New Jersey, son of Raymond and Blanche (Reynolds) Carter.
James married
the former Barbria Bell on October 25, 1958. James served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Gayles Memorial Baptist Church in Aurora and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, whether alone or with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Barbria Carter of Harrisburg, IL; his children, Carol Thomas of Aurora, IL, Gary Carter of Tucson, AZ and James Carter Jr. of Harrisburg, Anita Carter and Lorinda Carter both of Elgin, IL; grandchildren, Seandell Bristo and Nathan (Nicole Shaw) Carter all of Aurora, Raymond Hartmann of Milwaukee, WI, Christopher Carter of Tucson, AZ, Kevin Thomas of Aurora, IL, Gregory Echols Jr. and Lawrence Echols both of Elgin, IL, Stephanie Carter of Tucson, AZ, Samantha Carter of Harrisburg, IL, Nina Thomas of Aurora, IL, Kamri Veal, Kayla Veal and Barbria Echols all of Elgin, IL; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Warren of Camden, NJ; a brother, John Clifton of Philadelphia, PA; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Diondre Ticer; a son Donnell Carter; a brother, William Clifton; and a sister, Alberta Carter.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2004 at 11 AM from Gayles Memorial Baptist Church, 730 Gillette Ave., Aurora, IL with Rev. George Marshall presiding. Visitation will be on Friday from 10 AM until the service hour at the church. Interment will be at Riverside cemetery.

Jay William Goedert
Jay William Goedert, 44, of Elgin passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004 in his home. He was born on May 9, 1960 in Elgin and was the son of George H. and Ruth Urie Goedert. He was married
to Susan Hyser of Elgin.
Jay was a graduate of Elgin High School and North Central College. Early in his career, he served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Elgin Community College and Elgin High High School. Jay was an assistant men's basketball coach at Northern Illinois University. For ten years, he served as an assistant men's coach at DePaul University. Jay was also Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel for the Magic City Snowbears, a semi-pro basketball team in Minot, ND. Since 1998, he has been employed as Director of Marketing for DrugCard, Inc. in Naperville.
He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Elgin.
He is survived by his wife, best friend and soul mate of 20 years, Susan; his dear mother, Ruth Goedert; his cousins, Laurence (Dolores) Kaptain of Columbus, GA and Drew (Kathy) Kaptain of Hamden, CT; two brothers-in-laws, Dr. Matthew (Sonia) Hyser of Deerfield and Chris Hyser of Long Beach, CA; his father-in-law, Nicholas (Carolyn) Hyser of Elgin; two nephews, Emiliano and Diego Kaptain; three nieces, Elise and Jennifer Hyser, and Sierra Kaptain; and his god-daughter, Mara Kupelian.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Goedert, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will follow in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4-9 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Friday in the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be made to the Elgin Historical Society or a charity of one's choice.
