Russell L. Sohn
Russell L. Sohn, Lt. Col (retired), formerly of Elgin, IL died Sunday, June 29 at home.
He was born in Elgin on May 29, 1932 to Harry and Hazel (Anderson) Sohn, grew up in Elgin and graduated ECC in 1952. He then went to the University of Illinois and graduated Law School in 1956. He was a Bronze Tablet Scholar. His marriage to R. Wylene Kelly took place on December 22, 1956 and he was employed as a corporate attorney in the oil and gas industry, retiring in 1988. He served in the Judge Advocates Office of the United States Army and in the Army Reserve. He was honored by the U.S. Army on May 3, 2003 for his contribution as a volunteer sponsor of foreign officers and their families at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
Surviving him are his daughter, Regeana S. Shelton of Tulsa, OK; his grandson, James Harmon; great-grandson, Jesse Harmon, both of Norman, OK; his brother, Robert H. Sohn, Park Falls, WI; also nieces, nephews, cousins and friends throughout the country.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2000 and his parents in 1983.
Burial will be at a later date in El Dorendo, Georgia.
Norma J. Carl
Norma J. Carl, 66, of Carpentersville died Monday, July 12, 2004 at her home. She was born in Elgin on December 30, 1937, the daughter of Frank and Emily (nee Scheer) Lange. Norma was a life long resident of the Elgin-Carpentersville areas. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Elgin and was a former 12 year employee of Senior Flexonics of Bartlett.
She is survived by her daughters, Randi Carl and Wendy (Joseph Sr.) Lucente both of Carpentersville; six grandchildren, Joseph Jr., Stephanie, Carissa, Joseph, Nicholas and Christopher; her sister, Phyllis Todd of Elgin; and her brother, Marvin (Betty) Lang of Deland, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin Carl in 2000; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Melissa; a brother, Manley Lange; and a sister, Arlene Sziegti.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 10 AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee with the Rev. Thomas Niermann officiating. Burial will follow in the Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 9 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee.
J. Robert "Bob" Edwards
J. Robert "Bob" Edwards, 66, of Elgin passed away Saturday, July 10, 2004 in his home. He was born November 19, 1937 in Elgin and was the son of Ray and Lucy Edwards. He had been a resident of Elgin all his life and was a graduate of Elgin High School with the Class of 1955. He had owned Pride Paving Co. in Elgin for many years. He was presently a salesman for Northern Illinois Brick & Supply Co. He had been a coach and Past President of the Continental Little League in Elgin, a coach and Past President of the Pop Warner Football Association, past Midwest Regional Director of the Pop Warner Football Association, Past President of the Larkin High School Booster Club, he had coached Sophomore football at St. Edward High School and he had served on the Elgin Parks and Recreation Board for many years. He was Past Vice-President of Brady Ready Mix. He was instrumental in helping many children through sports.
Surviving are his wife, Judy, whom he married
on September 17, 1960; a daughter, Kris Marshall and her significant other, Peter Raymond of Saukville, Wisconsin; a son, Boomer Edwards and his significant other, Maria of Elgin; three grandchildren, Tiffany, Keith and Kelli Marshall; three sisters, Lucille (Lawrence) Pribbenow of Alaska, Shirley (Lawrence) Krueger of Crystal Lake, IL and Doreen (Harold) Liepitz of Elgin; and a brother, Jim (Yasuko) Edwards of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Vernon, Virgil and Donald "Gunner" Edwards.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin, IL with Rev. Charles Vitel officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 9 PM.
Albert P. Elvin
Albert P. Elvin, 87, of Elgin passed away Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Rosewood Care Center. He was born June 18, 1917 in Elgin, the son of Charles and Anna Lorang Elvin. A life long resident of Elgin, he was employed by the Elgin National Watch Co. for 14 years and the Elgin Post Office for 29 years. He started his career with the Post Office as a substitute carrier in January 1949 and held various positions including Foreman of Delivery and Collection, Superintendent of Delivery and Collection, Manager of Mail Processing and Manager of Customer Services. He received a Special Achievement Award for outstanding service in the delivery operation of the post office before retiring July 15, 1977. He was an avid sports fan and enthusiastic bowler and golfer. A life long traveler, he visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and traveled overseas. In 1977, he began traveling to California each winter and for ten years, was a volunteer for the National Park Service in Death Valley, California, a place that held a special fascination for him. He was beloved by his extended family and will be dearly missed.
He was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Plato Center and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #799 of Elgin.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Broeker Elvin; two daughters, Patricia Ann Elvin of Elgin and Linda Elvin (Douglas Kelley) of San Jose, California; two grandchildren, Brett and Kyla Kelley; and a sister, Iris Garrelts of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert in infancy and LeRoy Elvin.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at 4 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with Pastors Paul Meyers and Calvin Culpepper officiating. Visitation is at the funeral home beginning at 3 PM the same day. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 41W170 Russell Rd., Plato Center, IL, 60170.
Herbert Joseph Hummelberg
Herbert Joseph Hummelberg, 83, of Bartlett passed away July 10, 2004 in Bartlett. He was born April 21, 1921 in Chicago, IL.
Mr. Hummelberg was a W.W.II Navy Veteran, serving as a pilot. He worked for Western Electric for 45 years.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 60 years, Alvina (nee Botheroyd) Hummelberg; two loving daughters, Alice Vuorenmaa and K. Beth Hummelberg; three grandsons, Casey (Mary), Mark, and Carl Vuorenmaa; and two great-grandchildren, Christian and Ramsey Vuorenmaa.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Rd., Bartlett. Cremation will be private at Countryside cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald J. Kroll
Donald J. Kroll, 69, of Elgin passed away Saturday, July 10, 2004 in his home. He was born May 17, 1935 in Chicago and was the son of Joseph and Ethel Kroll. He had been a resident of Elgin since 1974 and owned Elgin Spring Co. in Elgin. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Elgin and of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #737 of Elgin.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Kim Kroll of Elgin, Donna (Robert) Gardner of Elgin and Lynda (Brian) Harney of South Elgin; five great grandchildren, Sheila, Annastasia, Nicholas, Joseph and Kristi; two great grandchildren, Scotti and Jakob; and his mother, Ethel Minkalis of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a granddaughter, Samantha.
Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 10 AM in St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin on Wednesday from 5 to 9 PM and then on Thursday from 9 to 9:30 AM also in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Provena St. Joseph Hospice or to Provena St. Joseph Hospital Cancer Care Center.
E. Beverly Rowe
E. Beverly Rowe, 96, of Elgin, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2004 in Sherman Hospital. She was born February 13, 1908 in Anna, IL and was the daughter of William and Caroline Brading. She was a graduate of Anna High School. The day after graduation she started working for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. as a telephone operator and retired from Illinois Bell as a Division Manager. After retirement she worked at Elgin Community College. She loved to travel and made trips to Hawaii and Egypt. She was an Icon to her family and will be greatly missed.
Member of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin, Telephone Pioneers, Elgin Chapter #212, Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include one nephew, Paul D. Brading of Grants Pass, OR; two grand nieces, Paulette K. Brading of Tualatin, OR and Colleen B. Rugh of Portland, OR; one grand nephew, John S. Brading of Fox, AK; one great grand niece, Rachael Vorberg-Rugh of Portland, OR.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jack in 1962; two sisters, Ruby Alexander and Myrtle Toler; four brothers, Sumral Brading, John Brading, Bon Brading and Everett Brading.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 14 at 2:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin, with Rev. Mona Walker officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Elgin.
Patricia Ann "Patti" Garrett
Patricia Ann "Patti" Warner Garrett, R.N., 40, of Algonquin died Wednesday, July 11, 2001 in the Northwestern Memorial Medical Center in Chicago.
She was born in Berwyn on April 29, 1961.
She was a 1978 graduate of Dundee Community High School and a 1980 graduate of Elgin Community College School of Nursing. She was a former 15 year employee of Sherman Hospital, Elgin, where she worked as a Registered Nurse. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Carpentersville. Patti was active in Boy Scout Troop #63 where she served as Troop Treasurer.
Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Terry L., whom she married
on May 5, 1979; a son, Scott L.; a daughter, Kelly A., both at home; her mother, June A. Warner of East Dundee; a sister,Sherri (Dave) Vanvlierbergen of Algonquin; a brother, Dan Warner of Mountain Home, Ark.; her father and mother-in-law, James and Kathryn Garrett of Las Vegas, Nev.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter G. Warner in 1995.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Monday in the Trinity United Methodist Church, Carpentersville, the Rev. Robert Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be 12-7 p.m., Sunday in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and Monday in the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
John W. Kutzleb, Jr.
John W. Kutzleb Jr., 60, of South Elgin, died Thursday, July 12, 2001 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
He was born May 24, 1941 in Elgin.
Mr. Kutzleb was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church, St. Charles and a former member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Elgin and Immanuel Lutheran Church of Dundee.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria; and a sister, Lucille Harz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lydia Kutzleb; and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Monday at Hosanna Lutheran Church, Randall & Crane Rds., St. Charles. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m., Sunday at the Yurs Funeral Home, St. Charles.

Mabel Elizabeth Bondeson Lloyd
Mabel Elizabeth Bondeson Lloyd, 84, of Elgin passed away Friday, July 13, 2001 in her home. She was born February 7, 1917 in Virginia, Minnesota and was the daughter of Peter August and Anna Birgitta Johansen Bondeson. Mabel came to the Chicago area in 1938 where she met Clifford Earl Lloyd at the Moody Memorial Church in Chicago and married
on August 23, 1941. Mabel had been a resident of Northlake for 31 years prior to moving to Elgin in 1978.
She was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church of Elgin, Covenant Woman and Dorcas Society.
She is survived by five children, Ronald (Eileen) Lloyd of Westboro, MA, Susan (Cornelius) Dirkx of Harvard, IL, Kathleen (Wayne) Personius of Hoffman Estates, IL, Bruce (Janice) Lloyd of Villa Park, IL and Gregory (RuthAnn) Lloyd of Wauconda, IL; grandchildren, Robyn (James) Cerny of St. Charles, IL, Jeremy (Erin) Miller of Lake in the Hills, IL, David (Jodi) Dirkx of Rockton, IL, Hilary and Erin Lloyd of Westboro, MA and Daniel Lloyd of Wauconda, IL; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah and James Cerny of St. Charles, IL; and also a brother, Paul Bondeson of Duluth, MN.
She is preceded by her parents; her husband, Clifford Earl Lloyd in June of 1988; brothers, Louis, Wilhelm, Abraham and David and two sisters, Hazel and Edna.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. in the Evangelical Covenant Church, 1565 Larkin Ave., Elgin, with Rev. Herbert Hedstrom officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-8:00 P.M. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St. (Rt. 31), Elgin, and on Monday starting at 9:30 A.M. at the church until the time of services. Memorials may be made to the Evangelical Covenant Church of Elgin.
Linda S. Mika
Linda S. Mika, 38, of West Dundee died Monday, July 9, 2001 in her home.
She was born in Elgin on Jan. 3, 1963 and was a lifelong resident of the Dundee area.
She was a 1981 graduate of Dundee Community High School. Linda was employed by Mac Automation Concepts in Woodstock where she worked as a Supervisor of Assembly.
Survivors include her father, Henry "Mike" Mika of Genoa, Wis.; a sister, Laura (Jim) Benton of Sleepy Hollow; an aunt, Lillian (Mel) Gehrke of Crystal Lake. Linda is also survived by many dear loved ones, especially the Richard Schuring family and all her friends at River Lee's.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy J. Newcomer Mika.
Memorial Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday in the First Congregational Church of West Dundee, the Rev. Greg Lucas officiating. Burial will be private.
There will be no visitation. Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee is in charge of arrangements.
