Harry A. Westlake
Harry A. Westlake, 82 of Elgin passed away Sunday, July 13, 2003 in his home. He was born February 2, 1921 in Minnesota, the son of Jeanette Westlake.
He was a Veteran serving in the Navy during W.W.II. He was a lifelong resident of Elgin having served on the Elgin Police Force for 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the Police Benevolent Association and the Elgin American Legion Post #57.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine of 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Private services will be held in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private and there will be no visitation.
Bereneice A. Menard
Bereneice A. Menard, 91, of Elgin, formerly of Chicago, passed away Monday, July 12, 2004 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born January 4, 1913 in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Kotwila. She had been a resident of Elgin for the past seven years.
Surviving are three daughters, Rhoda Salvatore of Chicago, Connie Riddell of Chicago and Pam (Eugene) Binek of Elgin; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles J. Menard in 1997; two brothers, Joseph and Edmund Kotwila; and two sisters, Sally Duncan and Helen Perrone.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 AM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held Thursday from 3 to 9 PM in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Parkinson's Foundation.
Robert E. Richards
Our Loving Brother and Uncle
Robert E. Richards, age 76, passed away at Sherman Hospital on June 22. He recently moved to Elgin in the year 2000 after moving from Memphis, TN.
He was born in Eligin on February 19, 1928 to Newton and Clara Richards.
He entered into the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. After serving, he entered Art College in Chicago. He retired from Schering-Plough as an Art Director and Designer in 1990. He received a Clio Award for one of his designs in 1984.
He studied singing with Charlotte Bohl and had the opportunity to sing one time with the Chicago Opera. He enjoyed going to the Elgin Symphony.
Bob is survived by his sister, Hester Wiley and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Newton and Clara; a brother, Lester Richards; and two sisters, Dorothy Svendsen and Ruth Bowers.
Memorial will be held July 17 at the Randall Oakes Country Club in West Dundee from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please omit flowers. Memorials can be made to the Elgin Symphony.

Irene Maher
Irene Maher, 93, of West Dundee died Sunday at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
She was born in Chicago on November 17, 1907, the daughter of Joseph and Julianna (nee Weiss) Tenzer.
She was a 28 year resident of West Dundee, and a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, West Dundee. She was a former 25 year employee of Sears.
She is survived by four children, Thomas (Dolores) Maher of Torrence, California and Gregory (Santa Rae) Maher of Chicago, Irene (Thomas) Mullen and Arlene Alitto both of West Dundee; grandmother of 19; great grandmother of 32; a brother, William Tenzer of West Dundee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gregory J. on September 27, 1979; and a brother, Henry Tenzer.
Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday at 10 AM in the St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee with the Rev. Richard Rosinski officiating. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 to 9 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Wednesday from 9 AM in the church prior to Mass.
Please omit flowers, memorials made to St. Catherine of Siena Church Building Fund, Little City or Masses would be appreciated.
Virginia P. Howerton
Virginia P. Howerton, 86, died 1:20 A.M., Sunday, July 14, 2002 at the Benton Healthcare Center in Benton, Illinois.
Graveside services will be 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at Maplewood cemetery with Rev. Victor Long officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Tuesday.
Virginia was born July 2, 1916 in Marion to John B. and Nell (Barth) Pillow.
Virginia moved to Elgin, Illinois in 1954. She was an executive secretary at the McGraw-Edison Company in Elgin and retired in 1980. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Marion. She enjoyed spending free time with her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Annetta Mae "Ann" (Jim) Marquis of Benton; two sons, James "Lynn" (Donna) Howerton of Mt. Vernon, IL and William "Mae" (Sharen) Howerton of Spring, TX; seven grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Harrison of Belvidere, IL; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Nina Chamberlain
Nina Chamberlain, 51, of Pingree Grove, IL passed away Sunday, July 14, 2002 at her home. She was born September 3, 1950 in Brazil, South America to Nick and Lida (nee Letkmann) Tactaul. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, William E. Chamberlain, whom she married
September 16, 1990; two sons, Errol Keene of Pingree Grove and Charles Keene of South Elgin; her mother, Lida Tactaul of South Elgin; a brother, Victor Tactaul of Texas; four sisters, Anna Goossen of Brazil, Lida Da Rocha of Hoffman Estates, Elizabeth Tactaul of South Elgin and Clara Shikany of South Elgin; four grandchildren, Adam, Miranda, Craig and Amber.

William B. Crane
William B. Crane, 84, of Hampshire passed away Saturday, July 13, 2002 at his home.
He was born January 11, 1918 on the family farm in Hampshire Township, the son of Emerson and Lucy (Scholer) Crane.
He was a life long Hampshire resident and graduated in 1935 from Hampshire High school. Bill married
Leona B. Holze on September 9, 1939 in Hampshire. He farmed in Hampshire until he "retired" in 1983. He continued his farming "career" along with gardening until his death.
Mr. Crane was a life member of the Hampshire FFA Alumni, served on the Kane County Farm Bureau Board for six years, the Pure Milk Association Board for several years, Assistant Livestock Superintendent for the Kane County Fair for four years and assisted Township officials in the distribution of government sponsored food programs.
Surviving are his wife, Leona; son, William H. (Mary Alyce) Crane of Elgin; daughter, Eileen (David) Williams of South Elgin; three grandchildren, Wade (Jacki) Merritt of Crystal Lake, Tammy (Phillip) Hartman of Tomah, WI and Christopher Crane of Elgin; five great grandchildren, Steven, Nicole, Danielle, Joey and Cody; and two sisters, Alice Henke of Chicago and Dorothy (Charles) Renard of Naples, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alfred; and a sister, Florence Lorenz.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire with the Rev. Martin Balzer and the Rev. Steve Srock officiating. Burial will be in the Doty cemetery in Hampshire.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Hampshire Rescue Squad.
Barbara Jean Lucas
Barbara Jean Lucas, 53, of South Elgin, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2002 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born October 17, 1948 in Elgin, the daughter of Richard and Evelyn Steinmann Lamprecht. She was a graduate of St. John Lutheran Grade School, Elgin and A.C. Flora High School, Columbia, South Carolina. She attended the University of South Carolina. She had been employed with Sunbeam Electric in South Carolina and Chicago for 12 years and First Card in Elgin for 15 years.
Surviving are her husband, William S. Lucas, whom she married
on July 5, 1986; a son, Richard (Claudia) McCombs of South Elgin; a daughter, Melanie McCombs of South Elgin; five grandchildren, Steve, Jacob, Kennedy, Kyle and Samantha; her parents of Elgin; two sisters, Nancy (Kevin) Cooke of Carpentersville and Wendy (John) Parsons of Algonquin; a brother, Robert Lamprecht of Fitchburg, MA; maternal grandmother, Bernice Steinmann of Elgin; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; also loved and missed by so many others.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Thomas Niermann officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Elgin.
Fedora Rita Goscinski
Fedora Rita Goscinski, 85, of Elgin passed away peacefully Thursday, July 10, 2003. She was born April 14, 1918 near Lucca, Italy and was the daughter of Primo and Ottavia Giometti.
She is survived by her husband Stanley; one son, Dale (Diane) Goscinski of Elgin; one granddaughter, Abbey Goscinski; two sisters, Terry (Ted) Milo of Florida and Lee Carter of Texas; one niece, Sandra (Boyce) Hurley; two nephews, Robert (Diane) Lloyd and William Lloyd.
Fedora was a volunteer at Sherman Hospital for over ten years. She was a caring friend and loving soul to all that knew her.
Private services will be held in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. Private burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. There will be no Public Visitation.
Dorothea A. Rozak
Dorothea A. Rozak, 80, formerly of North Plato and Genoa, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at the Oak Crest Residence in Elgin.
She was born November 18, 1922 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Henry and Alma (Sieving) Hartwig. Dorothea married
the Rev. Kenneth H. Rozak on August 9, 1941 in St. Louis. Together they served the St. Peter Lutheran Church of North Plato and Pingree Grove for 38 years retiring in 1982 when they moved to Genoa. She was dedicated to her church and family.
Mrs. Rozak was a member of the Ladies Aid, the LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League), Morning Ladies Bible Class, Monday Morning Quilters, a volunteer for the Bethesda Thrift Shop in Crystal Lake, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also served as secretary to the Superintendent of the Burlington Central School District 301 from 1968 to 1982.
Surviving are a son David (Sandra) Rozak of Fort Meade, FL and daughter Nancy (Clifford) Miller of Plato Center; five grandchildren, Keith Rozak of Ft. Mead, Karen (John) Kewn of Jackson, NJ, Scott (Michelle) Miller of Genoa, Rebecca (Michael) Jarvis and Sarah Trapani both of Elgin; a step-grandson, Chris (Michelle) Rose of Bartow, FL; 10 great-grandchildren, Bailey Rozak, Christina and Colby Straub, Jami, Ashley, Luke and Zachary Miller, Austin, Alexis and Jake Jarvis; step-great-grandchildren, Jordan and Chase Rose and a sister, Audrey (Charles) Telle of St. Louis, MO and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs Rozak was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 48 years, Rev. Kenneth H. Rozak on November 22, 1989, her son, Paul on June 9, 1997, and a brother, Donald G. Hartwig in 1993.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. July 18, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43W301 Plank Rd., North Plato with the Rev. Harold Schmidt officiating.. Burial will be in the North Plato cemetery.
Visitation will be held form 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church and prior to services on Friday at the church from 9 to 10 a.m.
