Emil W. Arps
Emil W. Arps, 75, of Elgin, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004 in his home. He was born March 23, 1929 in Elgin the son of August and Amanda Arps. He had been a resident of Elgin all of his life and was a graduate of Elgin High School. He was a self-employed carpenter before retiring. He was a Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church of Elgin, VFW Post #1307 of Elgin, American Legion Post #57 of Elgin and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #799 of Elgin.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Winters Arps; three sons, Craig (Sharon) Arps of Algonquin, Brian (Jan) Arps of Riverside, CA and Dr. Alan Arps of Elgin; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy (William) Buckheister of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Anne Fairchild.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Chaplain Richard Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Richard W. Florczak
Richard W. Florczak, age 52 of Kingston, IL, passed away Wednesday, July 21, at his home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 25, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. in Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel, 51 Center St. Elgin. Rev. Ralph McFadden will officiate.
He was born June 28, 1952, in Germany, the son of Wesley and Barbara (Blachowicz) Florczak. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was employed as a machine operator for the Union Pacific Railroad. On September 6, 2002 he was married
to Sherri Lynn Danner.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Theresa Lee Morrison of Charlotte, N.C. Three sisters, Delphine (Tony) Locascio of Lake in the Hills, IL, Wesline (Rondo) Noller of Carpentersville, IL, Elizabeth Engelhart of McHenry. His mother of Rochelle, IL. Three grandchildren, Cory, Kayla and Faith.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 26, in Bluff City cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Velma L. Schumann
Velma L. Schumann, 81 of Elgin passed away Wednesday, July 21 at her home. She was born December 9, 1922 in Springfield, Illinois the daughter of Beulah Gott and Charles B. Marshall. She had been a resident of Elgin for most of her life. She was employed by Illinois Tool Works and was a crossing guard at Bluff City Blvd. and S. Liberty St. before retiring. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Elgin.
Surviving are her daughter-Pamela Keisler of Evansville, Ind. 4 sons-Michael Schumann of Elgin. Scott (Mary Ann) Schumann of South Elgin. Jeffrey (Cecelia) Schumann of South Elgin. Timmy (Christine) Schumann of San Diego, Cal. 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Husband-Harold in 2002, son in law-David Keisler in 1992.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 26 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Elgin with Rev. Olin Sletto officiating. Entombment will be in Dundee Township East cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Monday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services in the church. Memorials may be given to Provena St. Joseph Hospice or Holly Trinity Lutheran Church.
Edward Earl VanDusen
Edward Earl VanDusen of Burlington, IL died April 16, 2004, in Apache Junction, AZ. He was 77.
Mr. VanDusen lived in Burlington most of his married
life after growing up in the DeKalb area. A World War II veteran, Mr. VanDusen worked as a truck driver for Elliott & Wood of DeKalb and retired from Burren Transfer of Elgin after 27 years of service. Mr. VanDusen was a life long member of Country Evangelical Covenant Church of Elgin, an active member of the Burlington Fire Department, the Burlington Ambulance Service and the Lions Club.
His parents, William Earl and Alice Stout VanDusen preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen; three daughters, Ben (Jim) Claywell, Jessie Schramer and Mary (Dennis) Lombardo; a son, William (Bev) VanDusen; seven grandchildren, Scott Schramer, Cristin Odom, Jennelle and Matthew Lombardo, Heather and David VanDusen and James Claywell. Two sisters, Jennie Scott of DeKalb and Margaret Seyller-Freeman of Elgin also survive him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 24, at 1:00 p.m. at the Country Covenant Church located at Rt. 47 and McDonald Road. Burial will be in Burlington cemetery.
Florence B. Jacobsen
Florence B. Jacobsen, age 73, of Elgin passed away Thursday, July 19, 2001 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
She was born February 26, 1928 in Elgin, the daughter of Edgar and ClaraZimmerman Schmoldt.
She had been a resident of Elgin all of her life. She had been employed by George M. O'Neil Corp. in Elgin before retiring.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Elgin, an active volunteer with the Elgin Symphony and a member of Altrussa Club of Elgin.
Surviving are her husband, Edwin G. Jacobsen whom she married
on July 19, 1947; two daughters, Nancy O'Claire of San Jose, Calif. and Peggy (Gary) Martin of Longwood, Fla.; two sons, Roger(Kristine) Jacobsen of Elgin and Edwin Jacobsen of Rockford; six grandchildren; two great grandsons; and a sister,Dorothy (Ralph) Schufft of Eldridge, Mo.
She was preceded by her parents.
Private services will be held in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Elgin Symphony.
Hope E. Moller
Hope E. Moller, 36, of Dixon died Sunday, July 22, 2001 at her residence.
Mrs. Moller was born October 27, 1964 in Chicago, the daughter of Martin and Darlene (Klecka) Fox. She married
Robert Moller on May 22, 1992 in St. Charles, Illinois.
She worked as a receptionist for Cain Millwork in Rochelle, Illinois.
Survivors include her husband of Dixon; her parents; a son, Joshua Moller of Dixon; a daughter, Meagan Moller of Dixon; a step-son, Kevin Moller of Elgin; a step-daughter, Megan Moller of Elgin; three brothers, Jeff Jones of Knox, IN, Keith (Ana) Fox of St. Louis, MO, Craig Fox of Streamwood; and a sister, Stormy Klecka-Urbaszewski of Mt. Prospect.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon with the Rev. Christine Stienstra, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amboy and chaplain of the Hospice of the Rock River Valley, officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded.
Visitation will be from 9-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the American Breast Cancer Society.
Marilyn Mickey Wehner
Marilyn Mickey Wehner, 63, of Lake in the Hills, formerly of Elgin, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2001 in Provena St.Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
She was born Oct. 5, 1937 in Kent, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Darlene Mickey.
Marilyn was a graduate of the University of Iowa, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She achieved her Masters degree from Northern Illinois University. Marilyn was a teacher in School District U-46 for 17 years at Wayne Elementary and Abbott Junior High Schools prior to her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph, whom she married
on April 5, 1957; two children, Debra (Mark) Hendricks and Jeff (Carrie) Wehner of Elgin; seven grandchildren, Becky, Ashley, Alissa, Aric, Mickenzie and Mitchell; and her sister, Margarite Minnick of Creston, Iowa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, George Minnick.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Wednesday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Creston, Iowa on Friday, July 27, 2001.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Provena St. Joseph Hospital.
Douglas R. Gough
Douglas R. Gough, age 71, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, WI. He was born on July 30, 1931 in Elgin, IL, a son of Clarence and Dorothy (Lange) Gough. He married
Betty Lou Vollman on May 16, 1953 in Elgin, IL. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Douglas is survived by three children, Rebecca Carlson of Elgin, IL, Linda Gough of Madison, WI, and Brian (Sandra) Gough of Cross Plains, WI; a grandson, Andrew Gough; his mother, Dorothy Gough of Forest City, AR; two sisters, Delores (Dennis) Sooby of Lawrence, KS and Judith (Joseph) Coleman of Forest City, AR; three brothers, James (Laura) Gough of Elgin, IL, Gary (Marcelene) Gough of McHenry, IL, and Richard (Jackie) Gough of Arkansas; many nieces and nephews.
Douglas was preceded in death by his wife, Betty and his father, Clarence.
Douglas had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. HE served from 1950-1954 and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had been employed as a maintenance worker for the Elgin, IL public school system for many years. He then moved to the Madison, WI area and worked in the maintenance department at the Madison Edgewood grade school. Douglas moved to the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, WI in July of 2001.
A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of The Living Christ, 110 N. Gammon Rd. in Madison, WI on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Daniel Kowert officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be in Madison. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated and can be directed to the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, WI in the name of Douglas R. Gough. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI assisted the family with arrangements. The family of Douglas R. Gough expresses a special thank you to the nursing staff of Stordock Hall and Ainsworth Hall at the Wisconsin Veterans Home for their special care for Doug while he was a resident of the Veterans Home.

Robert "Bob"/"Baggy" Graham
Robert "Bob"/"Baggy" Graham, 84 of Aurora, Colorado, formerly of Elgin passed away peacefully at his home on June 27, 2003. He had been a resident of Elgin for over 71 years before moving to Colorado. He had been employed by Shakeproof Division of Illinois Tool Works for 41 years before retiring.
Surviving are his daughter, Vicki (David) Lisman; his sons, Morgan (Shirley) Graham, Stephen (Linda) Graham, Brian (Kathy) Graham; nine grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 41 years, Harriette and his second wife, Miriam Seagren Graham.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 26 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 240 Standish St., Elgin. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of local arrangements.
Robert P. "Bob" Schultz
Robert P. Schultz, 84, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born May 4, 1919 in Elgin, the son of Louis and Melinda Heidemann Schultz. He had been a resident of Elgin for all of his life. He was a graduate of Elgin High School, Class of 1939. He had been employed as a truck driver by Air Products and Chemicals in Forest Park for 30 years before retiring in 1980. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army with the 32nd Battalion, Field Artillery, known as the "Big Red One" in North Africa, and he received the Purple Heart.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Elgin. He was a member of VFW Post 1307 of Elgin, where he served on the honor guard and served as a volunteer for the Salvation Army senior lunch program. He was a member of the American Legion Post 57 of Elgin. He was a member of the Owls Club of Elgin. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 330.
Surviving are: his wife, Alma Lueck Schultz, whom he married
on October 28, 1944; two daughters: Christine (Tom) Foster of South Elgin and Barb Schultz (Frank Lemke) of South Elgin; two grandchildren: Mike Flentge of North Aurora and Amy (Dan) Walden of South Elgin; two great-grandchildren: Eric and Rachael Walden; special friends, Jackie, Addie and Evan Olson of Coon Rapids, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Schultz; three sisters: Helen Schultz, Marge Collard, and Frances Turnquist.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Elgin, with Rev. Olin Sletto officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-8:30 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services in the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Roof Fund or Little Angels Nursing Home, Elgin.
