William E. Vant
William E. Vant, 97 of Batavia, formerly of Elgin and Chicago, died July 20, 2003 in the Michaelson Health Center, Batavia. He was born December 7, 1905 in Chicago.
He was a former member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Chicago and Saint Thomas More in Elgin. Before his retirement he was employed by Sears-owned Warwick Electronics in Niles, IL.
Survivors include nephews, Walter G. Mattocks, Jr. of Elgin, Bart Raidiger, Jr. of Twin Falls, ID, Henning Vent and Joachim Vent of Washington, D.C.; nieces, Nancy Shevchenko, Citrus Heights, CA, Johanna & Astrid of Maryland, and Olivia of New York and their dear mother Henrietta Vent of Chevy Chase, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William P. and Louise Hutzler Vent; two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Gale) Mattocks of Elgin, Mrs. Bart (Fay) Raidinger of Santa Maria, CA; a niece, Joan; his brother, Myron H. Vent of Chevy Chase, MD. The brothers co-authored a history of South Manitou Island, Michigan, published by the National Park Service.
Visitation will be held at O'Connor & Homeier Funeral Home, 364 Division St., Elgin, 3:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003. Funeral service will be officiated by chaplin Larry Dieckman on Friday, July 25, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at Bluff City cemetery. Donations can be made to S.N.S. Richard W. Florczak
Richard W. Florczak, age 52 of Kingston, IL, passed away Wednesday, July 21, at his home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 25, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. in Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel, 51 Center St. Elgin. Rev. Ralph McFadden will officiate.
He was born June 28, 1952, in Germany, the son of Taduez and Barbara (Blachowicz) Florczak. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was employed as a machine operator for the Union Pacific Railroad. On September 6, 2002 he was married
to Sherri Lynn Danner.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Theresa Lee Morrison of Charlotte, N.C. Three sisters, Delphine (Tony) Locascio of Lake in the Hills, IL, Wesline (Rondo) Noller of Carpentersville, IL, Elizabeth Engelhart of McHenry. His mother of Rochelle, IL. Three grandchildren, Cory, Kayla and Faith.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 26, in Bluff City cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Edward Allen Moe
Edward Allen Moe, age 88, of Carmel, CA, passed away July 11, 2004 at Community Hospital in Monterey, CA.
Born January 15, 1916 in Rhinelander, WI, Mr. Moe was a graduate of Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, a retired U.S. Naval Commander and a Veteran of World War II. In addition, he was a retired salesman from the Elgin Illinois Foundry, after over 35 years of service. After retiring to Carmel over 25 years ago, he was an avid golfer at the Pacific Grove Municipal golf Course, and a Marshall at the AT&T; Pro-Am Golf Tournament held at Pebble Beach each year. Mr. Moe was also a member of BPOE, and the American Legion, both of Elgin, IL.
Mr. Moe is survived by his loving companion Eleanor Hanson of Carmel, devoted children, David (Nancy) Moe of Batavia, IL, Robert (Susan) Moe of Elgin, IL, Christine (Fred) Seely of Walnut Creek, CA, and Barbara (Stuart) Hulke of Basking Ridge, NJadoring grandchildren, Braden and Blake Seely, Eric and Allison Moe, Stephanie and Stuart Holke, Robert Moe, and many loving and dear friends.
Mr. Moe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jayne in 1992.

Velma L. Schumann
Velma L. Schumann, 81 of Elgin passed away Wednesday, July 21 at her home. She was born December 9, 1922 in Springfield, Illinois the daughter of Beulah Gott and Charles B. Marshall. She had been a resident of Elgin for most of her life. She was employed by Illinois Tool Works and was a crossing guard at Bluff City Blvd. and S. Liberty St. before retiring. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Elgin.
Surviving are her daughter, Pamela Keisler of Evansville, Wis; four sons, Michael Schumann of Elgin, Scott (Maryann) Schumann of South Elgin. Jeffrey (Cecelia) Schumann of South Elgin, Timmy (Christine) Schumann of San Diego, Cal; 11 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Husband-Harold in 2002, son in law-David Keisler in 1992.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 26 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Elgin with Rev. Olin Sletto officiating. Entombment will be in Dundee Township East cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Monday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services in the church. Memorials may be given to Provena St. Joseph Hospice or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Lawrence Edward "Larry" Teter
Lawrence Edward "Larry" Teter, 71, of Holly Springs, MS, formerly of Elgin, died July 1 in his home.
Larry was a High Performance Engine Specialist, and an NHRA National Champion. He was the Founder of Teter Automotive and Auto Marine Engines. He was a member of the Elgin Elks, the Torquers, and the Cold Ducks. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Larry is survived by his wife, Peggy; three daughters, Terri (Byron) Dalton, Tracy Teter, and Lynn (Alex) Luna; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Finis "Mike" and Grace Teter and a grandson, Brent Austin Loss.

Sylvia Vlazny
Sylvia Vlazny, 98, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2004 in Heritage Manor. She was born July 20, 1906 in Chicago, and was the daughter of James and Mary Vlazny. She had been employed by Continental National Insurance Co. before retiring. She had been a resident of Elgin since 1980.
She is survived by a sister, Dorothy Polashek of Elgin.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James and Raymond Vlazny.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:30 A.M. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St, ELgin, with Rev. Charles Vitel officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services.
Richard C. Clavey
Richard C. Clavey, 63, of Huntley, passed away after a brief battle with lung cancer.
He was born Nov. 10, 1937 in Des Plaines, the son of Richard and Claire Clavey.
He retired from Illinois Bell after 38 years of service and started his own business, "The Right Connection".
His passion and love of harness horses led him to become a breeder and owner. He reached the highest achievement when his 2 year old colt, "Arrogant Rich" won the prestigious "Orange & Blue" in 1993. Dick was a member of the United States Trotting Association, The Illinois Harness Horsemen's Association and a member of I.B.E.W. Local 21.
He also served in the Army National Guard in the Nike Missile Division for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Diane (Hannibal) Clavey, whom he married
on Feb. 2, 1957; three children,Cindy Swanson, Douglas (Heather) Clavey and Rick (Amy) Clavey, all of Huntley; and three grandchildren, Rebecca, Adam and Derek.
A Memorial Service will be held in the First Congregational Church, located at the corner of Main & Church Sts., Huntley at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2001.
Dick loved the art of landscaping, therefore a tree will be planted at the Huntley Park District in his memory.

Florence B. Jacobsen
Florence B. Jacobsen, age 73, of Elgin passed away Thursday, July 19, 2001 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
She was born February 26, 1928 in Elgin, the daughter of Edgar and ClaraZimmerman Schmoldt.
She had been a resident of Elgin all of her life. She had been employed by George M. O'Neil Corp. in Elgin before retiring.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Elgin, an active volunteer with the Elgin Symphony and a member of Altrussa Club of Elgin.
Surviving are her husband, Edwin G. Jacobsen whom she married
on July 19, 1947; two daughters, Nancy O'Claire of San Jose, Calif. and Peggy (Gary) Martin of Longwood, Fla.; two sons, Roger(Kristine) Jacobsen of Elgin and Edwin Jacobsen of Rockford; six grandchildren; two great grandsons; and a sister,Dorothy (Ralph) Schufft of Eldridge, Mo.
She was preceded by her parents.
Private services will be held in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Elgin Symphony.
Edward A. Kicinski
Edward A. Kicinski, 74, of South Elgin, formerly of Chicago, passed away Monday, July 23, 2001 in the Alderwood Health Care Center.
He was born April 28, 1927 in Detroit, Mich., the son of Stephan and Apolonia Kicinski.
He was member of St. Laurence Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia, whom he married
on April 25, 1953; four children, Holly (Gary) Mika of Greenwood, Ind., Deborah (Ken) Lindgren of Carpentersville, Joseph Kicinski of South Elgin and Karen (Bruno) Mika of Darien, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Crystal and Heather Lindgren, Jeremy andKristen Mika; a great-grandchild, Taylor Lindgren; a brother, Tony Kicinski of Burbank, Ill. and a sister, GenevieveKuklinski of Europe.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be Thursday starting with Prayers at 9:40 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin to St. Laurence Catholic Church for 10 a.m. Mass. Burial will be in St. Adalbert cemetery, Niles.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m., Wednesday in the funeral home.
Emil Emerick Mayer
Emil Emerick Mayer, 87, of Elgin, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001 in Rosewood Care Center, Elgin.
He was born in Elgin on May 27, 1914, the son of Emerick and Julia (Balogh) Mayer.
A lifelong Elgin resident he was owner and president of Beck's Office Supplies.
He was a veteran of WW II, having served in the Army Air Force and the 78th Infantry Division in Germany. Among the military honors he was awarded the Bronze Star.
Emil was a member of the American Legion Post 57; the Kiwanis Club of Elgin; the Elgin area Historical Society; the Downtown Neighborhood Association and a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board.
He was active in Boy Scouts in the 20's & 30's (Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster) and in Downtown Promotional Activities in the 60's and 70's. He served as Chairman of the Downtown Organization in 1964 while also serving as a member of the Red Cross.
Survivors include a sister, Irene (Carl) Wegmann of Elgin; a sister-in-law,Florence (Ernest) Mayer of Soquel, Calif.; five nieces, Janet Hopkins and Susan Mayer of Bartlett, Cheryl Glover of Capitola, Calif., Nancy Mayer of Freeland, Wash. and Kim Reed of Carol Stream; and five nephews, Donald Mayer of Soquel, Calif., David (Suzanne) Erickson of Decatur, Ga., John (Linda) Erickson of Kansas City, Mo., Gary Wegmann of Elgin, and Robert Mayer of Burlington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Erickson; and two brothers, Emerick J. Mayer II and Ernest Mayer.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Ralph McFadden officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the American Red Cross.
