Joan Hansen
Joan Hansen, 69, of Elgin passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Manor Care Center, Elgin. She was born July 31, 1934 in Lanberton, IA, the daughter of Joseph and Luella Anderson Reising. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Elgin.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Trae) Clark and Nancy (Michael) Schmidt; a son, Vincent Hansen Jr. all of Elgin; seven grandchildren, Rachel, Bryan, Michael, Tracy, David, Lindsey and Vincent III; a sister; and a step daughter, Sandra (Joe) Brookes of CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Vincent in 1991.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 7 PM in the Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin. Burial will be in Little Falls, WI. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Elgin. 847-741-1128.
Duane H. Miller
Duane H. Miller, 73, of Elgin, formerly of Bellwood, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Sherman Hospital. He was born October 15, 1930 in Neenah, WI, the son of Henry and Genevieve Trehey Miller. He owned Gen Products in Villa Park before retiring. He had been a resident of Bellwood for many years and had been a resident of Elgin for the past five years. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Marian Nottelmann Miller whom he married
on November 29, 1959; three sons, Robert Miller of Belvidere, John (Gina) Miller of Plainfield and William Miller of Elgin; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Jeane Stallings of Carol Stream and Delores Summerville of Melrose Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gordon Miller.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 27 at 8:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Virginia M. Spellmeyer
Virginia M. Spellmeyer, 90, of Elgin, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004 in her home. She was born April 10, 1914 in Evanston, IL, the daughter of Marshall and Mabel Austin Knox. She had been a resident of Elgin most of her life and attended schools in Elgin and Evanston.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Elgin for over 60 years where she had served as Deacon and a member of the Martha Circle and Christian Service Class. She enjoyed painting and artwork.
Surviving are two daughters, Audrey (Edward) Harman of Elgin and Barbara Peters of Trenton, OH; a son, Robert (Marjorie) Spellmeyer of Hampshire; nine grandchildren, Robin (Scott) Kolar of Naperville, Ellen (Dennis) Heineman of Bartlett, Jill (Donald) Connor of Auburn, WA, Sara (Michael) Sitter of Elgin, Theodore (Stephanie) Harman of Glen Ellyn, Grant (Sarah) Spellmeyer of Madison, WI, Joseph (Coleen) Peters of Elgin, Neal (Grace) Spellmeyer of Arlington, MA and Jason Peters of Elgin; and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Spellmeyer in 1985; sister, Gertrude Knox and brother, Edwin Knox.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 27 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Elgin with Rev. Peter Boeve officiating. Burial will be private in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church.
Melvin E. Stotler
Melvin E. Stotler, 87, of Crystal Lake, passed away July 22, 2004 at Crystal Pines, Crystal Lake. He was the son of Isaac and Mary Ursula (Stotler) Stotler. He was born March 28, 1917 in Campgrove, IL.
He was a farmer most of his life in Southern Illinois. Retiring from Wells Mfg. In Woodstock in March of 1984. He then worked part-time as a mechanic at Larry Liles in Woodstock.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Viola Poole, whom he married
in 1939; parents, Isaac and Mary Ursula (Stotler) Stotler; nine brothers, Frank, Louie, Orla, Clyde (Smokey), George, Robert, Harold, two infants, Kenneth and James. Also two sisters, Rose Ryan and Luella Stotler.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia (Roewer) Stotler; one sister, Alice Storey of NC and his children, Kay (Henry) Daufenbach of Elgin, Judy Murison of Carpentersville, James (Lois) Matz of Rockford, Chris Gibson of Crystal Lake, Dan (Lori) Koura of AZ, Lolly (Wayne) Elam of Woodstock, Jan (Sham) Bisram of Crystal Lake and Mitzi (Bill) Bickley of VA; 25 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Querhammer Funeral Home in Crystal Lake, IL with Pastor Jim Campbell officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and a private wake for the immediate family one hour before the service. Beryl A. Berglund
Beryl A. Berglund, 87, of Willow Lakes Estates, Elgin, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2001 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
She was born Oct. 10, 1913 in Chicago, the daughter of Fred and EdnaAbendrodf.
She had been a resident of Willow Lakes Estates for the past 12 years.
Survivors include a son, Glenn A.Berglund of Elgin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Berglund; and a brother, HaroldAbendrodf.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m., Saturday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Private burial will be in Montrose cemetery,Chicago.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Richard C. Clavey
Richard C. Clavey, 63, of Huntley, passed away after a brief battle with lung cancer.
He was born Nov. 10, 1937 in Des Plaines, the son of Richard and Claire Clavey.
He retired from Illinois Bell after 38 years of service and started his own business, "The Right Connection".
His passion and love of harness horses led him to become a breeder and owner. He reached the highest achievement when his 2 year old colt, "Arrogant Rich" won the prestigious "Orange & Blue" in 1993. Dick was a member of the United States Trotting Association, The Illinois Harness Horsemen's Association and a member of I.B.E.W. Local 21.
He also served in the Army National Guard in the Nike Missile Division for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Diane (Hannibal) Clavey, whom he married
on Feb. 2, 1957; three children,Cindy Swanson, Douglas (Heather) Clavey and Rick (Amy) Clavey, all of Huntley; and three grandchildren, Rebecca, Adam and Derek.
A Memorial Service will be held in the First Congregational Church, located at the corner of Main & Church Sts., Huntley at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2001.
Dick loved the art of landscaping, therefore a tree will be planted at the Huntley Park District in his memory.

George T. "Tom" DoerrGeorge T. "Tom" Doerr, 48, of N. Kingsville, Ohio, died Tuesday evening , July 24, 2001 at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital of Conneaut, Ohio.
He was born February 12, 1953 in New Castle, PA, the son of George and Jacquline (Cearafoss) Doerr.
Mr. Doerr has been a resident of N. Kingsville, Ohio for the past several years coming from the Illinois area. He was employed for several years by Andover Industries, Andover, Ohio and his hobbies included fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his father, George Doerr of New Castle, PA; three children, Thomas and Corrine Doerr of Illinois, Jeffery Doerr of N. Kingsville; one granddaughter, Halley; three brothers, Roland Doerr of Pierpont Twp., Ohio, Jeffery Doerr of Illinois, David Doerr of New Castle PA; and one sister, Celia Pozel of Dundee, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jacquline; and one brother, Robert Glenn in infancy.
Calling hours will be held Friday, July 27, 2001 from 5-7P.M. in the Childs & Williams Funeral Home, 96 St. Rt. 7, Pierpont Twp., Ohio. Graveside services with burial of ashes will be held in Illinois at the convenience of the family.

Herbert Henry Gathman
Herbert Henry Gathman, 91, of Elgin, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2001 in his home.
He was born Feb. 1, 1910 in Elgin, the son of Frank and Lillie Gathman.
He did Florist work for Hatches Floral Shop in Elmhurst for several years and then worked for Kenyon Farms, where he lived in the old Kenyon farmhouse for 18 years and then he was employed by School District U46 before retiring.
He was a life member of Faith United Methodist Church until he joined the Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Elgin.
Survivors include his loving wife,Marion Ione Gathman, whom he was married
to for 65 years on June 6, 2001; two sons, Robert (Carolyn) Gathman and David (Nancy) Gathman, both of Elgin; four grandsons, Jeffrey (Angie) Gathman of Lake in the Hills, Michael (Cindy) Gathman of Genoa, Scott (Michelle) Gathman of Hinckley and Donald (Jana) Gathman of Boise, Idaho; ten great-grandchildren, Blaine, Lucia, Hayden, Kelby, Bryan, Laura, Rachel, Heather, Alexi andMacey; and a brother, Edward F. Gathman of Cerritos, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Friday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and on Friday until the time of services.

John Anthony Gorenz
John Anthony Gorenz, 78, of Burlington passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at Kindred Hospital, Sycamore.
He was born Aug. 29, 1922 in Burlington, the son of Frank and Antonia Grahut Gorenz.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Virgil.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby "Betty"; his daughters, Constance (Martin) Swiderski, Karen (William) John and Kathryn Gorenz; two grandchildren, Daniel and Alyssa John; and his brother, August M. Gorenz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Antoniette Gorenz and Mary Ann Ahasic; and four brothers, Frank, Elmer, Harold andRobert.
Services and interment will be private in Saints Peter and Paul Catholiccemetery.

Roy L. Larson
Roy L. Larson, beloved husband, father and grandfather, 75, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2001 in his summer home on Lake Vermilion in Cook, Minn.
He was born Aug. 20, 1925 in Ericksburg, Minn., the son of Oscar T. and Alma (nee Nelson) Larson.
He was a 1944 graduate of Cook High School where he was known for his basketball playing for the Cook Little Gophers. He was employed at the Cook Cooperative until 1947 when he moved to Elgin. He resided in Elgin and South Elgin for 54 years. He was the co-owner of the Lawrence Avenue Grocery in Elgin and later was employed for 35 years as a meat cutter and meat market manager at Gromer's Supermarkets in the Elgin area. He was an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 44 of South Elgin.
Survivors include his wife, Viola C. (nee Reuter) Larson, whom he married
on June 26, 1948 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Elgin; his son, Steven (Susan) Larson of Libertyville; his daughter, Sally (Steven) Sargent of Glenview; two beloved grandchildren, David and Daniel Sargent of Glenview; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Fred in 1997; two brothers, Carl and Fred; and four sisters, Ellen Erickson, FlorenceJacobson, Pearl Schabert and Fern Gardner.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 220 Division St., Elgin. Burial will follow in South Elgin cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m., Friday in the Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Funeral Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin and from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday in the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 220 Division St., Elgin, IL. 60120.
