Dorothy J. Miner
Dorothy J. Miner, 75, of Elgin passed away Friday, January 31, 2003 in her home.
She was born December 28, 1927 in Manheim, PA, and was the daughter of Ralph and Esther Arehart.
A resident of Elgin since 1952. She had been employed at Elgin Mental Health Center for two years and then at McDonald's for 20 years before retiring. She was active with the Camp Fire Girls and Boy Scouts. She was a member of the Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are her husband, Elmer; three sons, Blaine (Nancy) Miner, James Miner and Ralph Miner all of Elgin; two grandchildren, Cori and Grant; five sisters; and a brother.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2003 at 2 PM in the Highland Avenue Church of The Brethren. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1 PM until the time of Memorial Service only.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Highland Avenue Church of The Brethren.
Laird Funeral Home in Elgin is in charge of services.
Joseph Richmond
Joseph Richmond, 74, of Elgin, passed away Monday February 3, 2003 at Asta Health Care Center in Elgin. He was born September 1, 1928 in Elgin. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at River Hills cemetery, Batavia. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Madison Funeral Home.
Jerome "Jerry" Roth
Jerome "Jerry" Roth, age 92, of Elgin passed away Monday at his home. He was born May 23, 1910 in Chicago, the son of William and Hannah Goldstein. He moved to Elgin at age 5 and considered himself a lifelong resident. He married
Lillian (Seigle) on January 24, 1937. He founded Elgin Salvage and Supply Co. in 1938 and was the owner of the Elgin Salvage Clothing Store in Elgin. He was formerly to co-owner of Elgin Lumber and Supply Co. He was a member of Congregation Knesreth Israel, B'nai B'rith, United Jewish Fund/Appeal and Israel Bond Driver Supper, Green Acres County Club in Northbrook for 40 years, Covenant Club in Chicago, and funded the Roth Scholarship at Elgin Community College.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy (Dr. Gary) Ries of Wisconsin and a son, Gordon (Madeline) Roth of Geneva, three grandsons, Alex Roth of Geneva, Joshua Ries of Massachusetts and David Ries of Massachusetts and one granddaughter, Jill Ries of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, his parents and one brother, Irving Gould.
Funeral will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Congregation Kneseth Israel in Elgin. Burial will take place at Bluff City cemetery in Elgin. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Congregation Kneseth Israel in Elgin or Temple Beth in Madison, WI. Arrangements by Madison Funeral Home in Elgin.
Rose F. Seyller
Rose F. Seyller, 98, of Elgin passed away Sunday, February 2, 2003 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
She was born February 21, 1904 in Genoa Township, IL and was the daughter of Henry and Rose (Berna) Factly.
She was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church and served on the Altar & Rosary Guild for many years.
Survivors include five children, Guyla (Bob) Kramer, Lowell (Marie) Seyller, Klea Honert, Wanda Doherty and Vesta Schofield all of Elgin; 18 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Seyller.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry F. Seyller in 1973; two sons, Dale James in infancy and Kenneth Seyller in 1972; two grandsons, Daniel Honert and Robert Kramer; a sister; and two brothers.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 with Prayers at 9:45 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, to St. Laurence Catholic Church for Mass at 10 AM with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Masses would be appreciated.
Catherine A. Wiskirchen
Catherine A. Wiskirchen, 42, of Elgin went to be with her Lord and Savior after a long and courageous battle with cancer February 2, 2006 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. She was born May 15, 1963 in Milwaukee, WI and was the daughter of Russell and Doris Conrad Wiskirchen. Catherine graduated from Burlington Central High School in 1981, and Northern Illinois University. She achieved her Masters Degree from Aurora University. Catherine started her teaching career at Streater School District, and had been teaching at Central High School in Elgin for the last 20 years where she made an enormous and positive impact on both the academic and personal lives of many of her students and fellow co-workers. Cathie was a well loved and respected member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Elgin. In addition to the church, she volunteered many hours to the school where her daughter Michaela attends. In honor of Cathie, St. John's School will close on Monday so both the staff and families may attend her services.
Survivors include her daughter, Michaela, whom Cathie was totally devoted to; five loving brothers and their families, Michael (Beth), Anthony (Rebecca), Andrew (Vickie), Richard (Donna) and Charles (Tracy) Wiskirchen; nine nephews; and many very good friends who meant so much to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 6, 2006 at 11 AM in the St. John's Lutheran Church, 101 N. Spring St., Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on Sunday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin from 3 to 7 PM and on Monday at the church from 10 AM until the time of services. Memorials may made to the church.
Arthur Bauman
Arthur Bauman, 94, of Elgin died Saturday, February 2, 2002 in his home.
He was born July 7, 1907 in East Dundee, IL and was the son of Fred and Agusta Baumann.
A resident of Elgin most of his life and had been employed by Shedd Bartusch Foods before retiring. He was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church.
Surviving is a son, Jon Bauman of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera in 1979; an infant daughter; two sisters, Laura Jahnke and Alma Niemeyer; and three brothers, William, George and Elmer "Mike" Baumann.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 1 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Paul Meyers officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 12 Noon until time of services in the funeral home.
Elayne E. Bradkowski
Elayne E. Bradkowski, 78, of Gilbertsville, Kentucky. Former 32 year resident of Carpentersville. died Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at the Marshall County Hospital, Benton, Kentucky. She was born in Chicago on September 9, 1923. She was the daughter of Elmer and Florence (nee Hill) Kuffer. Elayne was a former many year employee of General Kinematics of Barrington where she worked in the accounting department. She was a former many year member of St. Monica Church, Carpentersville. She was a member of the Kentucky Homemakers Association.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard G., whom she married
on June 8, 1946; a daughter, Mary Anne LaShure of Carpentersville; a granddaughter, Faith N. LaShure (fiance Chris Marston) of Carpentersville and a brother, Owen (LaVergne) Kuffer of Schiller Park.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy, Richard G. Bradkowski, Jr. on December 25, 1949; a grandson, Brian B. LaShure on August 13, 1986; a brother, Robert Kuffer.
Funeral services will be on Monday, February 4, 2002 at 9:15 A.M. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee to St. Monica Church of Carpentersville for Mass at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 3, 2002 from 1-5 P.M. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Rodger J. Henderson
Rodger J. Henderson, 66, of South Elgin passed away Thursday, January 31, 2002 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born December 26, 1935 in Chicago, the son of Ralph and Gertrude Rydell Henderson.
He was a graduate of Barrington High School Class of 1953. He had been a resident of South Elgin for the past 35 years. He had been employed by Flex-weld in Bartlett for 22 years and then Hoffer Plastics in South Elgin for 23 years before retiring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in France.
Surviving are his wife, Julia Young Henderson whom he married
on March 19, 1960; three daughters, Jill (James) Altman of Keller, Texas, Carla (Jack) Keeney of Elgin and Rae Lynn (Patrick) Caskey of Elgin; four grandchildren, Janelle Oberg, Timothy Altman, Zachariah and Derek Caskey; two sisters, Lynda (Ronald) Rovelstad of South Elgin and Marcia (Gary) Kropuenske of Fairmont, Indiana; a brother, Kenneth (Janice) Henderson of Elgin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ralph J. Henderson.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2002 at 1 PM in Hosanna Lutheran Church, St. Charles (corner of Crane and Randall Rds) with Rev. Barry Scott officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hosanna Lutheran Church Building Fund. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
William Hawley Michael
William Hawley Michael, 78, of Elgin died Saturday, February 2, 2002 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital.
He was born October 16, 1923 in Elgin and was the son of William and Marjorie Michael.
A resident of Elgin all his life. He had owned Eby-Brown Co. before retiring. He was a veteran, having served in the Marines during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1307 of Elgin, the American Legion Post #57 of Elgin, member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #737 of Elgin, a former member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank and a member of the Elgin Country Club.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Maureen (Robert) Broitzman of Elgin and Anne Freeman of Elgin; a son, John (Rose) Michael of Elgin; seven grandchildren, Heather, Alison, Erinn, Matthew, Benjamin, Katherine and Jennifer; and two great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Michael.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Stephen.
Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 11 AM in St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Visitation will by in the Laird Funeral Home in Elgin on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM and then on Wednesday from 10:30 AM at the church until time of the Mass.
The omission of flowers is requested and memorials may be given to the Cancer Care Center at Provena St. Joseph Hospital or to St. Thomas More Catholic Grade School.
Chrisceda M. Amidon (nee Herrington)
Chrisceda M. Amidon (nee Herrington), 60, of Bartlett passed away Friday, January 31, 2003.
She was born July 30, 1942 in North Braddock, PA, the daughter of Bernadette (nee Coulter) and the late Herbert S. Herrington.
She is survived by her children, Tom (Patty) Amidon, Daniel Amidon and Douglas Amidon; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Michelle, Hunter and Taylor; a great grandchild; her mother; a sister, Bernadette E. (Larry) Palazzolo of Morris; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Claire Amidon; and a daughter, Brooke Amidon.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:15 AM Tuesday, February 4, 2003 to St. Peter Damian Church for Mass at 11 AM. Burial will be in Lakewood cemetery.
