Kurt D. Butcher
Kurt D. Butcher, 52 of Dundee Township, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004 at his home surrounded by his family, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Elgin on February 24, 1952.
Kurt was a lifelong resident of the Dundee area, and a 1970 graduate of Dundee Community High School. He was an Associated Press award winning photographer. Kurt was a 15 year employee of the Pioneer Press Newspapers. He was a former many year photographer for the Elgin Daily Courier News. He was an avid fly fisherman and a member of Trout Unlimited.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Donna S. Kinney Butcher. They married
on November 21, 1981. Their sons, Brent and Jay, both of Dundee Township; his mother, Margaret Reko Butcher of West Dundee; his brothers, Brad (Barbara) Butcher of Carpentersville and Steve Butcher of West Dundee; his sisters-in-law, Nancy L. (David Ellinger) Kinney of Crystal Lake and Carol A. Munson of West Dundee; his nephews, Aaron and Justin and his niece, Karlee. He is also survived by aunts, many cousins and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn G. Butcher and his mother and father-in-law, Robert F. and Marilyn C. Kinney.
Funeral services will be on Monday at 11:00 AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-6 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee.
Please omit flowers. Memorials may be made either to the Fox Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Because Kurt touched so many lives over the years, his family will be compiling a memory book. Friends and family who will be coming on Sunday and Monday are encouraged to bring a photo or to be prepared to write a memory for this book.
Mary Jane Hirschey
Mary Jane Hirschey, 87, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004 in the Apostolic Christian Rest Haven Nursing Home. She was born March 11, 1917 in Malone, New York and was the daughter of George and Grace Crosbie Snyder. She had been a resident of Elgin since 1979.
She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Elgin.
Surviving are two daughters, Louise (Phillip) Beyer of Castorland, New York and Susan (Eugene) Braun of Elgin; one son, Christopher (Wanda) Hirschey of Syracuse, New York; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arthur Hirschey, in 1978.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with the Apostolic Christian Church ministers officiating. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church cemetery in Croghan, New York on August 7, 2004. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Apostolic Christian Rest Haven Nursing Home, 2750 W. Highland Ave., Elgin, IL 60123.
Martha A. Martinez
Martha A. Martinez, 40 of Elgin passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004 in her home. She was born October 1, 1963 in Mexico, the daughter of Martin and Paula Huitron Martinez. She had been a resident of Elgin for most of her life. Martha was a member of El Mesias United Methodist Church of Elgin.
Her survivors are three children, Martin Martinez of Austin, TX, Brenda J. Nevarez of Elgin, Martha Alexandria Sanchez of Elgin; her parents of Austin, TX; four sisters, Sandra Martinez of Elgin, Gloria (Jose) Calleros of Elgin, Sylvia (Eric) Martinez-Johnson of Chicago, Paula (Rodrigo) Villegas of Elgin; one brother, Jesse (Kim) Martinez of Carpentersville; her paternal grandmother, Simona Martinez of Eagle Pass, TX; and many close nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 10:00 AM at El Mesias United Methodist Church, 651 Lillie St., Elgin, with Rev. Enrique Gonzalez, officiating. Burial will be in Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be held Friday, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the church. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
Lawrence Edward "Larry" Teter
Lawrence Edward "Larry" Teter, 71, of Holly Springs, MS, formerly of Elgin, died July 1 in his home.
Larry was a High Performance Engine Specialist, and an NHRA National Champion. He was the Founder of Teter Automotive and Auto Marine Engines. He was a member of the Elgin Elks, the Torquers, and the Cold Ducks. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Larry is survived by his wife, Peggy; three daughters, Terri (Byron) Dalton, Tracy Teter, and Lynn (Alex) Luna; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Finis "Mike" and Grace Teter and a grandson, Brent Austin Loss.

William Carl Bird, Sr.
William Carl Bird, Sr., 86, of Jonesboro, IL, died Monday, July 30, 2001 at the Union County Hospital in Anna.
He was born in the Wayside Community in Union County, IL on October 6, 1914, the son of Ira and Myrtle (Hoyle) Bird.
He married
Lulu Fox on March 4, 1939. She preceded him in death on July 4, 1982. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elgin, IL. He was a retired Baptist minister serving in Texas, Illinois, Arkansas, Missouri and Ohio and he retired as an educator from the Elgin Mental Health Center. He enjoyed travelling.
He is survived by two sons, William C. (Carolyn) Bird, Jr. of Jonesboro and George Wallace Bird of Elgin, IL; a daughter, Lulu Anne Roessler of Elgin, IL; six grandchildren, Sonya Suzanne (Joe) Jaquet of Jonesboro, IL, Jeremy W. (Gina) Bird of Jonesboro, IL, Del (Becky) Roessler of Elgin, IL, Jeff Roessler of Bartlett, IL, Mandy Roessler of Glendale Heights, IL and Edward Roessler of Elgin, IL; three great grandchildren, Cody Ryan Hand and Kayla Christina Hand both of Jonesboro, IL and Anne Michelle Roessler of Elgin, IL; a brother, Lloyd Bird of Anna, IL; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant daughter, Kathleen Bird; two sisters, Genevieve Bird and Velma Gibbs; and three brothers, Roy Bird, Troy Bird and an infant brother.
Funeral Services for William Carl Bird, Sr. will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Joe Hankla officiating. Interment will be in the Anna cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2001 from 5 to 8 PM at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna.
Donald S. Chance
Donald S. Chance, 76, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Sleepy Hollow, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2001.
He served with the Marine Raiders in the South Pacific in WWII where he received two Purple Hearts. After relocating to Phoenix, Ariz., he became an independent distributor for Holsum Bakery until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; and two daughters, Cheryl Chance of California and Donna (Larry) Schwartz of Peoria, Ariz.

Elaine W. Heidemann
Elaine W. Heidemann, 80, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 in Bonita Springs, Fla.
She was born April 27, 1921 in Elgin and moved to Florida 11 years ago from St. Charles.
Survivors include two children, William J. (Sharon) Heidemann of Sidney, Ohio and Linda K. (James) Heath of Naples, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Heidemann; and a daughter, Sally A. Bond.
Funeral Services will be held in Illinois at a later date.

Raymond Jeskie, 84, of Geneva passed away Monday, July 30, 2001 at Rosewood Care Center in St. Charles.

John J. Kypuros
John J. Kypuros age 82 of Willow Lake Estates, Elgin, passed away Sunday July 29, 2001 in his home. He was born December 7, 1918 in Chicago the son of James and Mary Kypuros.
He had been a resident of Elgin since 1988. He had been employed by American Drapery Co. in Chicago before retiring. He was a veteran having served in the Army Air Corp. with the 8th Bomber Group.
He was a member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church of Elgin.
Surviving are his daughter, Marianne Norris of East Dundee; son, James John (Stephanie) Kypuros of Crete, IL; four grandchildren, Jonathan and Tiffany Kypuros, Brandon and Steven Norris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diane in 1996; son-in-law, William Norris in 1997; sister, Helen Beller, and brother Leo Kypuros.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church Elgin with Fr. Peter Balkas officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, Elgin.
Kae Yong Lee
Kae Yong Lee, 66, of Elgin passed away Sunday, July 29, 2001 in St. Alexius Medical Center, Hoffman Estates.
He was born July 13, 1935 in South Korea, the son of Jae Yun Lee and Kap Sook Kim Lee.
He had been a resident of Elgin since 1978. He was employed by Sherman Hospital, Elgin as Manager of the Bio-Medical Dept. before retiring.
Survivors include his wife, Kyung Lan Lee; a daughter, Hae Sook Lee of Elgin; two sons, Haeyung Lee and Soong Yup Lee, both of Elgin; and a sister, Yong Oun Lee of South Korea.
Private Funeral Services will be Wednesday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Cremation will follow in River Hills Crematory, Batavia.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m., Tuesday in the funeral home.
