Bernice Marie Miller

Bernice Marie Miller, 87, of Elgin, died Thursday, July 26, 2001 in her home.
She was born March 16, 1914, the daughter of Burnace John and Barbara Marie Asay.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church almost all her life and was a current active member of St. Mary's Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia (Michael) Stamer of Elgin; a son, Lawrence (Anita) Miller of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Keith Michael (Kimberly) Stamer of Elgin and Michelle Marie (Timothy) Kalish of Bloomingdale; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Allan James Miller.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.
Visitation will be 9 a.m., Wednesday until the time of Mass in the church.
O'Connor and Homeier Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.

Obid Russell "Russ" Rea

Obid Russell "Russ" Rea, 88, of Pennsylvania, died Monday, July 30, 2001 in southeastern Pennsylvania where he lived with his son and daughter-in-law, for the past three and one-half years.
He was born July 16, 1913 in Maywood, Ill. Mr. Rea lived most of his adult life in Elgin.
He was a life-long learner with wide-ranging interests. He loved music; singing in the choir of "old" Epworth Church in Elgin, supporting the Elgin Symphony and attending performances of the Philadelphia Orchestra until about four years ago. He also enjoyed live theatre, having worked behind the scenes in community theatre in Elgin. He attended plays at regional theatres in Fontana, Wis. and throughout the Elgin area, as well as in Boston. He was a season ticket holder for several years in the mid 1990's at the historic Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. He read extensively, enjoying good mysteries and many branches of science and technology. He had been an avid amateur photographer, astronomer, short-wave radio operator, and fan of rail transport. When he traveled, he frequently sought out local museums catering to trolley, light rail and steam transport.
Mr. Rea spent his childhood in a variety of small towns in northern Illinois; southern and central Wisconsin. He graduated from high school in Fond du Lac, Wisc. In his teens and early twenties, Russ worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps. planting replacement trees in areas of Wisconsin where clear-cutting had occurred. Mr. Rea worked as an Industrial Electrician until his retirement in 1983, serving in that capacity at the Elgin Foundry, Geneva Steel Products and General Mills, W. Chicago.
Survivors include his daughter, Margaret and her children, John and Melissa; a son, Michael and grandson, Joshua; his dearest friend, Mary O'Connell; two sisters, Iola Caldwell of San Jose, Calif. and Lorraine Meuser of Union, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Alice (Benn) Rea.
Memorial Services will be at a future date to be determined by the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution in Mr. Rea's memory to your favorite charity.

Arturo Rivera Salazar

Arturo Rivera Salazar, 54, of Elgin passed away Saturday, July 28, 2001 in his home.
He was born July 2, 1947, the son of Jesus and Margarita Salazar.
Survivors include his parents of Corpus Christie, Texas; a daughter, Stephanie (Carlos) Vazquez of Elgin; two sons,Arturo Jr. (Betsy) Salazar and Zachary Cincenelli, both of Elgin; four grandchildren; a sister, Sylvia (Tom) Wetzel of Elgin; two brothers, Oscar Salazar and Robert Salazar, both of Elgin; and seven nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rene Salazar.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 6 PM, Wednesday, Aug. 1 in the O'Connor and Homeier Funeral Home, Elgin.

James (Morris) Wagman

James (Morris) Wagman of Crystal Lake died Sun. July 29, 2001, at his home. He was born on 1/17/24 in Chicago, IL to Isadore and Blanche Wagman. A veteran of the US Navy during W.W.II, serving as an aerial gunner. He married (Elizabeth) Betty A. Bresette on 4/14/56 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Red Cliff (Bayfield) Wisconsin.
Survived by his wife, their seven children and (15 grandchildren): Kenneth (Tracy) Wagman, Hampshire, IL-(Christopher, Kendra and Adam Wagman); Theresa (Wagman)(Herbert) Hanson, Crystal Lake, IL-son-in-law Mark Massman-(Janet, Kimberly & Robert Massman); David Wagman-Crystal Lake; Bryan Wagman-St. Petersburg, FL-daughter-in-law Virginia-(Bryan Jr., Benjamin & Brendon Wagman); Elise (Wagman) Weber-Cary, IL-son-in-law Gary Weber Sr.-(Gary Jr., Stacy & Tara Weber); Donald (Donna) Wagman-(Alexis Wagman, Renee & Kelsey Jumper) & Robert Wagman. -Sister Bella Solomon, niece Eileen and nephew Bruce (Bonnie, Linda and Carol).
preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dr. Arthur Wagman and sister Marianne.
Visitation will be Wednesday August 1st from 4:00pm until 9:00pm at the Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, with a Christian Wake service at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass and burial will be Saturday August 4th in Red Cliff, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois and/or St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Crystal Lake.

Joan M. Zierer

Joan M. Zierer, 63, of Hampshire passed away suddenly Sunday, July 29, 2001 in her home.
She was born September 26, 1937 in Schaumburg, the daughter of Edmund and Dora (Krunfus) Sunderlage.
She was a 1954 graduate of Hampshire High School and married Fredrick J. Zierer on February 5, 1956 in Hampshire. They farmed all their married life in Hampshire Township and after Fred's death on April 20, 1993, she continued its operation. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ of Harmony, active as a 4H leader for the Hampshire Junior Farmers, a member of the Illinois EMU Association and worked as a real estate agent on behalf of Country Oaks in Hampshire and the former Brill Realty of Huntley.
Surviving are four children, Deborah (Michael) Beard of Hampshire, Doreen Zierer of Bemidji, MN, Dean Zierer of Hampshire and Denise Zierer of Hampshire; three grandsons, Damion Rylko, Brandon and Alec Zierer; six brothers, James (Dolores) Sunderlage of Woodstock, Jerry Sunderlage of Genoa, Dr. Jon (Pat) Sunderlage of Dundee, Douglas (Pat) Sunderlage of Adams, WI, Dennis Sunderlage of Hampshire and Rev. Richard (Marcia) Sunderlage of Baraboo, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Fred.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at the St. John's United Church of Christ, (Rte. 20), Harmony with Pastor Dan Hinckley officiating. Burial will be in Hampshire Center cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire and at the church on Wednesday prior to services from 10 to 11 AM.

Marion R. Buck

Marion R. Buck 82 of Elgin passed away Friday, July 30, 2004 in her home after fighting Aplastic Anemia. She was born June 12, 1922 in Elgin the daughter of William and Minnie Otte. She grew up in Elgin where she lived her entire life except for 5 years in Skokie. She married Robert D. Buck on January 16, 1943 after he returned from service in Europe during W.W. II. She was a homemaker who dedicated her life to the welfare of her family. During her last months of her life she was sustained by many kind souls, especially her friend, Carol Thies Pearson, her daughter-in-law, Karen and her caregiver Angie Tan.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Elgin.
Surviving are her husband, Robert D. Buck; her family of 3 sons, James (Karen) Buck of Sycamore, John Debbie) Buck of Geneva and Jeff (Amy) Buck of Davis, California; 5 grandchildren, Lisa (Jimmy) Halterman, Trisha, Evan and Justin Buck and Kathy (Tim) Beasley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Irene Shinberger and 3 brothers, Clarence, Harold and Irvin Otte.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, Aug. 2 at 11:00 A.M. at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services, Elgin Chapel, with Rev. Hannibal Frederick officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Monday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Provena St. Joseph Hospice 77 N. Airlite St., Elgin who gave their care and support during Marion's last days.

Kurt D. Butcher

Kurt D. Butcher, 52 of Dundee Township, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004 at his home surrounded by his family, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Elgin on February 24, 1952.
Kurt was a lifelong resident of the Dundee area, and a 1970 graduate of Dundee Community High School. He was an Associated Press award winning photographer. Kurt was a 15 year employee of the Pioneer Press Newspapers. He was a former many year photographer for the Elgin Daily Courier News. He was an avid fly fisherman and a member of Trout Unlimited.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Donna S. Kinney Butcher. They married on November 21, 1981. Their sons, Brent and Jay, both of Dundee Township; his mother, Margaret Reko Butcher of West Dundee; his brothers, Brad (Barbara) Butcher of Carpentersville and Steve Butcher of West Dundee; his sisters-in-law, Nancy L. (David Ellinger) Kinney of Crystal Lake and Carol A. Munson of West Dundee; his nephews, Aaron and Justin and his niece, Karlee. He is also survived by aunts, many cousins and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn G. Butcher and his mother and father-in-law, Robert F. and Marilyn C. Kinney.
Funeral services will be on Monday at 11:00 AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-6 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee.
Please omit flowers. Memorials may be made either to the Fox Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Because Kurt touched so many lives over the years, his family will be compiling a memory book. Friends and family who will be coming on Sunday and Monday are encouraged to bring a photo or to be prepared to write a memory for this book.

Marie J. Floto

Marie J. Floto, 97 of Elgin passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. She was born July 4, 1907 in Gilberts the daughter of John and Mary Genz Mc Mahon. She had been a resident of the Elgin area all of her life and was a graduate of Elgin High School Class of 1925. She married Elmer L. Floto on May 8, 1927. She was Corporation Secretary and Treasurer of H.L. Pierce Motor Sales Inc. and Harry L. Pierce Motor Sales where she was affiliated for over 50 years.
She was a Charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Elgin. She was a Charter member of Zonta Club of Elgin.
Surviving are a cousin-Mrs. Frank(Cese) Gannon of Elgin formerly of Hampshire.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Elmer L. Floto, 2 brothers-William J. and Clarence J. McMahon.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 10:30 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Elgin with Revs. Roger Pollock, Martin Balzer and her Godson Rev. Donald E. Bendewald officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services in the church. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran School or Oak Crest Residence, Elgin. Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
