Master Diane C. Williams
Diane C. Williams, 60, of East Dundee, IL died August 1, 2003 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin, IL from a three year fight with ovarian cancer and a lifelong battle with Type One (juvenile) diabetes. Diane was born in Chicago on Novembe 6, 1943, the daughter of Mike and Helen Saliga. For the last thirteen years Diane was employed by the Kane County Sheriff's Department as a court security officer, a job that she enjoyed very much.
Diane was one of few women in the U.S. to ever earn the rent of fifth degree black belt, or Master rank, in Tae Kwon Do. Her home is full of awards and trophies. Diane was a black belt instructor at Kim's Academy in Elgin and for fifteen years ran the Huntley Park District's martial arts program, taking it from four students to now over 100 students, creating many new Black Belt graduates. Diane also ran a woman's self defense program at the Huntley Park District, teaching ordinary women how to avoid physical attack. Diane was known for her "indomitable spirit", one of the tenets of martial arts.
Diane earned an Associate Degree in accounting from the Center for Degree Studies and was working toward her Bachelors degree from Western Illinois University. Diane earned an amateur radio license, N9MUW and enjoyed using her two meter radio around Elgin.
Her brother Ken and father Mike of Tinley Park, IL, survive Diane. Diane leaves her significant other of 23 years, Tim Skoning, of Dundee, IL.
At Diane's request, she was cremated and a memorial service, celebrating Diane's life, being organized by her many fellow martial artist friends, will be held later this year. E-mail: WriteTim@USA.net for more information on Diane's memorial service.
Donations may be made in Diane's name to Assisi Animal Foundation, P.O. Box 143, Crystal Lake, IL 60039-0143. This is a no-kill animal shelter where her visits to help the homeless dogs and cats always deeply touched Diane's heart.
