Carmen Melendez
Carmen Melendez, 80, of Elgin, formerly of St. Charles passed away Monday at her home. Daughter of Gillis and Mary Collins. She was born September 23, 1921 in Millstone, KY.
She lived in Ladysmith, WI before coming to Elgin in 1940. She was a dedicated worker and caregiver retired from Oak Crest Residence and Elgin Mental Health Care Center.
Survived by two sisters, Beatrice Herman and Gertrude (Owen) Williams both of Elgin and many nieces and nephews.

Private services were held Wednesday at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin. Interment Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Memorials may be made to Vitas Hospice, Lombard or Heritage Manor, Elgin.
Larry Pagni
Larry Peter Pagni, 49, of Paradise Valley, AZ has found peace on August 8, 2002. Born in Chicago on November 29, 1952. He moved to Arizona 17 years ago from Prospect Heights, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Gian Paul (17) and Gian Marco (14); his mother, Lillian T.; brother, Raymond L. Pagni; sisters, Lucille F. Miller and Nora L. Weiler; father-in-law, Donald Bedroske.
Preceded by his father, Lawrence R. Pagni.

Daniel L. Wochnick
Funeral services for Daniel L. Wochnick will be at the Salerno Rosedale Funeral Home, 450 W. Lake St., Roselle, IL. Friday, August 16, 9:30 a.m. Chapel service 10:30. Visitation Thursday 3-9. Interment Lakewood cemetery.
Dan departed this life Saturday, August 10, 2002 in his home at the age of 76 years. He was born January 3, 1926 in Brockway Township, Stearns County, MN to Anton and Mary (Symanietz) Wochnick. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of W.W. II. Dan worked in Minnesota, N. Dakota and Wisconsin before coming to Illinois where at the Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad he served a four year apprecticeship, receiving his Machinist card July 10, 1955. He joined the Operating Engineers Local 150 in 1956 and was a mechanic and welder on heavy equipment. He was the Benoto man. Dan had his own "General Welding" business part time, retiring in 1991.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Rita Dzieglewicz (Steven) of South Elgin; son, David Wochnick of Bartlett; two grandsons, Dale Wochnick of Kalispell, Montana, Specialist Kenneth Wochnick in the U.S. Army at Ft. Carson, Ft. Carson, Colorado; two brothers, Felix Wochnick (Bonnie) of Owatonna, Minnesota and Victor Wochnick of Bloomington, MN; sister-in-law, Christine Wochnick of Holdingford, MN and many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Stanley A. Goscinski
Stanley Alexius Goscinski, 92, of Elgin passed away at home Wednesday, August 13, 2003. He was born February 7, 1911 in Wilsonville, Illinois and was the son of Stanley and Anna Goscinski.
Surviving are one son, Dale (Diane) Goscinski of Elgin; one granddaughter, Abbey Goscinski; two nephews, Robert (Diane) Lloyd and William Lloyd; one niece, Sandra (Boyce) Hurley.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Fedora Goscinski; his sister, Ann Lloyd; his brother, George (Agnes) Goscinski and his parents.
Stanley served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad for over 40 years. Above all, Stanley dedicated his life to family.
Private services will be held in the Laird Funeral Home in Elgin. Private burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. There will be no visitation.
Bill Hamilton
Bill Hamilton, age 65, of Elgin died Saturday, August 9, 2003 at his home in Elgin. He was born October 22, 1937 in Hamlet, North Carolina to Clay and Mary Hamilton.
Bill was a dedicated fisherman, fishing the Fox River every day with his fishing buddies of whom he thought so much of and valued their friendship.
Survivors include his ex-wife and lifelong friend Kathy (Heimann) Hamilton; Opal Heimann; two sisters, Louse Koch and Pricilla Melton; four half brothers; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clay and a brother, Nelson.
Funeral services will take place Friday, August 15 at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro, North Carolina.
Jeffrey R. Klein
Jeffrey R. Klein, age 19 of Carpentersville died August 13, 2003.
He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Judith Klein; his brother, Nathaniel; his sister, Samantha; his paternal grandparents, Irwin and Lois Klein; his maternal grandmother, Beatrice Cameron.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 14 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Community Funeral Home, located on Rt. 25, between Rts. 72 and 68, East Dundee. Services will be Friday, August 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Community Funeral Home.
Earnest "Larry" Lawrence Murphy
Earnest "Larry" Lawrence Murphy, 71, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, August 12 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born March 12, 1932 in Creal Springs, IL and was the son of James and Mary Roth Murphy.
He was an Air Force Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. Larry had worked as a machininst for all of his life prior to his retirement. Larry was an avid outdoorsman enjoying: hunting, fishing, boating and tending to his roses.
He was a member of the Elgin American Legion Post 57, Moose Lodge #799 and the Elgin Moose Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn whom he married
February 10, 1984; a daughter, Karen (Mike) Coleman of Des Plaines, IL; two grandchildren, Brian and Rebecca "Becki" Coleman; two brothers, Egbert (Darlene) Murphy and Alfred (Ruby) Murphy; a sister, Maxine (Jim) Hansen; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 23, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with the Rev. Olin Sletto officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin, IL. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Holy Trinity Radio Ministry or the Church roof fund.
Darlene Marie Straka
Darlene Marie Straka, 59 of Waukegan, formerly of Elgin passed away Monday, August 11, 2003 at St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan. She was born September 12, 1943 in Elgin, the daughter of Charles and Anna Darin Straka. She had attended the Elgin public school system.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Elgin.
Surviving are her mother, Anne Straka of South Elgin; her sister, Charmayne (Allen) Johnston of Belvidere; her brother, Charles (Sheila) Straka of South Elgin; five nephews; two nieces; and sixteen great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Private funeral services wil be held at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Private burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immanuel Baptist Church.
Dorothy Stuhrenberg
Dorothy Stuhrenberg, 92, of Elgin, died on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at the Manorcare in Elgin. Born on July 12, 1911 in Chicago, the daughter of William and Amolia (nee Beckman) Wahl. Dorothy was a resident of Willow Lake Estates for over 35 years and she was a former 35 year employee of Western Electric.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Stuhrenberg of Elgin.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. in 1989 and brother, William A. Wahl, Jr.
Memorial service will be on Friday, August 15, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gail Borden Library.
Ruth K. Banakis
Ruth K. Banakis, 85, of Elgin died Thursday, August 12, 2004 at her home. She was born on January 19, 1919 in Thisted, Denmark, the daughter of Niels and Margaret (nee Kibsgaard) Riis. Ruth was a former 45 years resident of Carpentersville.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy (Paul) Rathjen of Green Valley, Arizona, Christina Kennedy of Elgin and Susan (Scott) Prinke of Elgin; five grandchildren, David (Stacy) Kennedy, Peter (Brenda) Rathjen, Sara Kennedy, Amanda Prinke and Michael Prinke; and great grandson, Jacob Kennedy; her care-giver and companion, Margaret Leszczuk; her brother, Paul (Maria) Riis of Flippin, AR; close friend, Michael Kennedy of Dundee; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Manuel Banakis on June 14, 1999 whom she married
November 28, 1942.
Funeral Services will be private. Visitation will be in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, Sunday, August 15, 2004 from 1 to 4 PM.
Melford "Mel" Dahl
Melford "Mel" Dahl, 71, of Elgin passed away Friday, August 13, 2004. He was born March 7, 1933 in St. Paul, MN and was the son of Silhim and Sophie Fritschie Dahl. He had been a resident of Elgin since 1973. He had been employed by the City of Elgin as City Engineer and Director of Public Works before retiring. He was a Veteran, having served in the Korean War in the Army.
He was a member of First Congregational Church of Elgin, the Monitor-Lansbury Lodge No. 522 A.F. and A.M., and the American Public Works Association.
Surviving are his wife, Linda; one daughter, Kimberly Dahl of Champaign, IL; one son, Randal (Doris) Dahl of Champaign, IL; two grandchildren, Alex and Elizabeth Dahl; three sisters, Marlene (Larry) Misiak of Sauk Village, IL, Katherine Dahl of Chicago, IL, and Mary (James) Bunde of St. Paul, MN; one brother, Edward (Ona) Olsen of White Bear Lake, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Nancy, in 1988.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the First Congregational Churhc with Rev. Paris Donehoo officiating. Private burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will be in Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and then at the church at time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Elgin Food Pantry or to the Crisis Center or Salvation Army.
Marie Elizabeth Dorsey
Marie Elizabeth Dorsey, 70 of Elgin died Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at her home.
Marie was preceded in death by her father, Fred Carson; one son, LaGusta (Sonny) Carson; and one grandson, Lonnie Curry.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mitchell; and her mother, Mary Carson of Earle, AR; five sons, Fred (Mary) Dunigan, LA (Darlene) Dunigan, Alonzo Dorsey; Arthur Lee (Linda) Dorsey; and Michael Dorsey, All of Elgin; two daughters, Patsy Dunigan and Marie (Lloyd) Dorsey, both of Elgin; five brothers, Lonnie and Fred Carson, both of Florida, Charles and Morris Carson, both of St. Louis, MO; and L.C. Carson of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Maxine Carson and Bernadine Dorsey, both of St. Louis, and Catherine Williams of West Memphis, AR; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marie is also survived by her special first grandchild, Jean Bush, and a special "talking buddy", Billy Bush.
Visitation will be Friday, August 13, 2004 at the O'Connor - Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin from 4:00, until 9:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Bethesda Church of God in Christ, 454 Hickory Place, Elgin at 11:00 AM, with Elder Carl Clement, officiating. Burial will follow at Bluff City cemetery.
