Frances Odell Leschke
Frances Odell Leschke, 83, of Urbana, formerly of the Chicago suburb area, passed away August 11 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL. She was born June 13, 1921 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Harry and Della (Matters) Wright.
Frances was employed at Motorola Communications, Schaumburg for 25 years in the crystal department. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Frances was an avid bowler and golfer. She enjoyed playing Bingo.
Suvivors include her son, Donald (Eileen) Leschke of Elgin; four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Harry (Eileen) Wright of Delavan, WI.
She was preceded in death by her son, Larry; her parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Wright; and one sister, Merrilles Wacker.
Funeral services and burial will be private. There is no visitation. Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Kanies, 82, of Elgin passed away Tuesday at Sherman Hospital. She was born April 22, 1920 in Chicago, daughter of Charles and Myrtle Suhr Bauman. She was a member of Ladies Aid and Mission Society of St. Jonh's Lutherans church. Former employee of Cook's Publishing Co., and former employee of Spiess.
Survivors include her husband Conrad, 2 sons; Reid (Vicki) Kanies of St. Charles and Grant Kanies of Elgin, TX. 2 grand-daughters; Kelsey and Colleen Kanies of St. Charles, one sister; Elaine Wiltshire-Shellgrove of Texas.

Barbara J. Koch
Barbara J. Koch, 41, of Elgin, died Wednesday, August 14, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born January 13, 1961, in Elgin, to Joseph and Helen (Real) Koch.
A lifetime resident of Elgin, Barb was a 1979 graduate of Larkin High School.
She was employed by the Elgin Police Department for more than 20 years and was a member of the Owls Club.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elgin.
Barb was known for the joy she took in life, for her sense of humor, the warmth she shared with friends and the love she gave all in her family. She was an organizer of family gatherings and vacations and a loving, generous aunt to her nieces and nephews, taking them on far-away trips and close-to-home adventures. She took delight in giving great gifts on Christmas and birthdays - and for no reason at all.
Barb is survived by her mother, Helen; two brothers, Thomas (Debbie) Koch of Elgin and William (Inger) Koch of DeKalb; four sisters, Kathy (John) Russell of Aurora, Peggy Koch of Elgin, Ginny (Ron) Horan of Elgin and Mary (Tony) Edwards of Rockford; six nieces and five nephews, Erin, RJ and Maureen Horan, Stacie and Hollie Edwards, Jennifer and Maggie Koch, Theron Koch and Jay, Ted and Michael Russell; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph, on February 1, 1973 and a brother, Joseph in infancy.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 15 at the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Home, 51 Center St., Elgin. Please omit flowers.
The funeral will be at noon, Friday, August 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elgin. The Rev. David Huber will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Celia Agnes Kirstein
Celia Agnes Kirstein, 87, of Elgin, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at the Rosewood Care Center in Elgin. Born in Chicago on November 22, 1915 to Max and Harriett (nee Mika).
She is survived by her sister, Sister Rosemary Kirstein, OP; her brother-in-law, William Ozga; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Kirsten; and many fond nieces and nephews.
Celia is preceded in death by her siblings, Therese Ozga, Eleanor Tomzack, Frank, Anthony, Walter and George Kirstein.
Family and friends will meet for Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 16, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 397 Fulton St., Elgin. Ruth K. Banakis
Ruth K. Banakis, 85, of Elgin died Thursday, August 12, 2004 at her home. She was born on January 19, 1919 in Thisted, Denmark, the daughter of Niels and Margaret (nee Kibsgaard) Riis. Ruth was a former 45 years resident of Carpentersville.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy (Paul) Rathjen of Green Valley, Arizona, Christina Kennedy of Elgin and Susan (Scott) Prinke of Elgin; five grandchildren, David (Stacy) Kennedy, Peter (Brenda) Rathjen, Sara Kennedy, Amanda Prinke and Michael Prinke; and great grandson, Jacob Kennedy; her care-giver and companion, Margaret Leszczuk; her brother, Paul (Maria) Riis of Flippin, AR; close friend, Michael Kennedy of Dundee; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Manuel Banakis on June 14, 1999 whom she married
November 28, 1942.

Melford "Mel" Dahl
Melford "Mel" Dahl, 71, of Elgin passed away Friday, August 13, 2004. He was born March 7, 1933 in St. Paul, MN and was the son of Silhim and Sophie Fritschie Dahl. He had been a resident of Elgin since 1973. He had been employed by the City of Elgin as City Engineer and Director of Public Works before retiring. He was a Veteran, having served in the Korean War in the Army.
He was a member of First Congregational Church of Elgin, the Monitor-Lansbury Lodge No. 522 A.F. and A.M., and the American Public Works Association.
Surviving are his wife, Linda; one daughter, Kimberly Dahl of Champaign, IL; one son, Randal (Doris) Dahl of Champaign, IL; two grandchildren, Alex and Elizabeth Dahl; three sisters, Marlene (Larry) Misiak of Sauk Village, IL, Katherine Dahl of Chicago, IL, and Mary (James) Bunde of St. Paul, MN; one brother, Edward (Ona) Olsen of White Bear Lake, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Nancy, in 1988.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the First Congregational Churhc with Rev. Paris Donehoo officiating. Private burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will be in Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and then at the church at time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Elgin Food Pantry or to the Crisis Center or Salvation Army.
George T. Murphy
George T. Murphy, 81, of Elburn, formerly of Elgin, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2004 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. He was born May 19, 1923 in Kankakee County, the son of Leonard and Margaret Hayes Murphy. He had been a resident of Elgin for 20 years before moving to Elburn where he had lived for the past two years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was self employed as a truck driver before retiring.
Surviving are five children, Michael (Debra) Murphy of St. Charles, Linda (Pat) Cahoon of Elgin, Patricia (Greg) Traverso of Johnsburg, Keith Murphy of McHenry and Kevin (Jannea) Murphy of Elgin; six grandchildren, Stefanie, Bill, Alexandra, Gary, Kathy and Clarissa; and a sister, Irene Leinen of Kankakee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Jean Murphy in 2002; two sisters, Margaret Searcy and Kay Cook; and a brother, Leonard Murphy.
Funeral Services will be Monday, August 16, 2004 at 7 PM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM in St. Peter's cemetery, Clifton, Illinois. Visitation will be held Monday from 3 to 8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Lung Association or Provena St. Joseph Hospice.
Donald E. Ott
Donald E. Ott, 74, of Batavia, IL, formerly of Elgin, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born July 3, 1930 in Elgin and was the son of Percy and Agnes Ott. He was a graduate of St. Edward High School. He had been employed by Elgin Sweeper Co. for 32 years and then for Flender Corporation for 10 more years before retiring. He moved to Winter Garden, Florida in 1994 and he worked part time for Walt Disney Animal Kingdom. He then moved to Batavia, IL in 2004. He was a veteran, having served in the Army in Korea. He attended St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Elgin, was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #799 of Elgin, the American Legion Post #57 of Elgin and was an avid bowler.
Surviving are his wife, Joan; five sons, Jay D. Ott and Jeff (Mary) Ott both of Elgin, Jody Ott of Hampshire, IL, Mike (Terri) Mayotte of Geneva, IL and Tim (Jeanna) Mayotte of Batavia, IL; 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois Anderson; and two grandchildren, Timothy and Christopher Mayotte.
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 10:30 AM in St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will be private in Union cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin on Monday from 5 to 9 PM and then on Tuesday at the church from 10 AM until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
Wavie Simmons
Wavie Simmons, 97 of Carpentersville passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004 in Manor Care Health Services in Elgin. She was born April 20, 1907 in Rock Creek, West Virginia and was the daughter of Thomas and Florence Scarbro. She had been a resident of Carpentersville since 1993.
Surviving are a daughter, Jo Ann (Tim) Cline of Carpentersville, IL; three grandchildren, Michael and Mark Atha and Thomas Cooper; four great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; a sister, Mary Cole of Naoma, West Virginia; and a brother, Speed Scarbro of Masseyville, West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Joseph Flynn; second husband, Nolen Simmons; a daughter, Selma Grismer; and seven sisters and brothers.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 7 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St., West Dundee. Burial will be private in Berry, Alabama. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home on Monday from 4 PM until time of services.

Ruth C. Bedwell, 90, of Elgin, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
She was born June 18, 1911 in Elgin, the daughter of William and Amanda Brammer Rakow.
She had been employed at Elgin National Watch Co. and later at David C. Cook Publishing retiring in 1976. She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampshire.
Survivors include a step-daughter,Janet Medernach of N. Aurora; two step-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor M. Mains of Burlington; six nieces, Teri (Harlan) Cork of Elgin, Penny (Mike) Otte, Kathy (Larry) Johnson, Judy (Martin) Benjamin, Joanne (Mack) Bolton and Joy Sperry; four nephews, John (Pam) Mains, Joel (Diane) Mains, Don (Sandra) Rakow and Dan (Selene) Rakow; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Bedwell, whom she married
on Nov. 22, 1951 and who preceded her on Jan. 21, 1991; and three brothers, Melvin H.,Donald C. and William H. Rakow.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday in the Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Chapel, the Rev. James Hughes of Trinity Lutheran Church of Hampshire officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.

Abraham Blankenship, 66, of Omro, Wis., formerly of Lake in the Hills, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001.
He was a retired plant supervisor at Knaack Manufacturing.
Survivors include his eight children, Janice, Maggie (George) Moss of Baltimore, Ohio, Abe (Dora) Blankenship Jr. of Merritt Island, Fla., Alvie (Deb) Blankenship of Lancaster, Ohio, Anita (Lee) Wiseman of Lancaster, Ohio, John (Raejean) McCoy of Rushville, Ohio, Tessie (John) Mills of Allen, Texas, James (Brenda) Mason of Lancaster, Ohio and Darline (Jerry) Herron of Amanda, Ohio; step-children, Chuck (Deb) Cork of Elgin, Polly (Steve) Seyller of Belvidere, Mary (Steve) Parsek of Woodstock, and Janelle (Scott) Hensley of Genoa; a sister, Jean McCoy of Logan, Ohio; 28 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his fiancee, Joyce Parsons of Oshkosh, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; a brother; and two wives, Marge and Janet.
A Viewing will be Friday, Aug. 17, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. in the Windridge Memorial Park. Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Windridge Memorial Park.
