Robert Raymond Boldwyn
Robert Raymond Boldwyn, 63, of Elgin passed away Saturday, August 14, 2004 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb, IL. He was born December 23, 1940 in Elgin and graduated from St. Charles High School and Elgin Community College. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and was an Elgin Police Officer before working in retail management. Affectionately known as "Bobbo" to many and "Paw Paw" to his loving grandchildren. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #799. He was the official score keeper for various softball teams. Robert was also an avid sports fan, billiards player, pilot, reader and builder of model railroads.
He is survived by his sister, MaryLou (David) Aurand; two sons, William (Cathi Scales) Boldwyn and Robert (Peggy) Boldwyn; two daughters, Julie (John) Kengott and Susan (Lasse) Ingebretsen; five grandchildren, Jacob and Ryan Kengott; Emma and Audrey Boldwyn; and baby Ingebretsen due in November; and a friend and mother of his children, Patty Boldwyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Maudine (nee McCoy) Boldwyn; a wife, Carol (nee Leatherman); two brothers, Ronnie and William; and one sister, Ruth.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with a prayer service recited at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Ruth F. Doss
Ruth F. Doss, age 87, of St. Charles, formerly of Glen Ellyn and Carpentersville, died Tuesday, August 17,2004 at Delnor Glen Assisted Living, where she had been the first resident since it opened in 1998. She was born December 8, 1916 in Chicago, IL.
Before her retirement, Ruth was a nurse at Sherman Hospital in Elgin for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie (Bryan Salvage) Doss of Wheaton; one son, James Frederick Doss of Carpentersville; two grandchildren, Jamie Dunn of Itasca and Jeffrey Dunn of Wheaton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick in 1991. Also a sister, Vida Dickerman; and a brother, Benjamin La Verne Deetjen.
Memorial services will be held 10:45 AM Saturday, August 21, 2004 at the Delnor Glen Assisted Living, 975 N. Fifth Ave., St. Charles. There is no visitation. Contributions may be made to Delnor Glen Assisted Living.

Violet E. Land
Violet E. Land, age 85, of Elgin passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at Rosewood Care Center in Elgin. She was born May 27, 1919, the daughter of the late Victor and Gerda (Erickson) Hedgren.
She is survived by a son, Michael (Pamela) Land of Barrington; six grandchildren, Aaron Land of Naperville, Melissa (David) Maynard of Woodland Hills, CA, Mikael, Miranda, Mariya, and Paige Land all of Barrington; one sister, Margaret Wright of Elgin.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harry A. Land, in 1976.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m Friday, August 20, 2004 at River Valley Memorial Park in West Dundee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elgin Salvation Army. Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee is in charge of arrangements. (847)426-3436.
Paul Landrum
Paul Landrum, 81, of Elgin died Saturday, August 14, 2004 at his home.
Paul was a proud volunteer fireman for Village of Bloomingdale, IL for ten years, and he was the proprietor of Northwest Welding and Blacksmithing, also of Bloomingdale. Paul was a Veteran of the Navy, having served in W.W.II.
Paul is survived by three daughters, Susan (John) Wiley of Roselle, Sandra Landrum of Elgin, and Penny (Sam) Olive of Springfield, MO; two sons, Jeffery (Cathy) of Lake in the Hills and Scott Landrum of Carpentersville; six grandchildren, Thad and Torry Tobolt, Victoria and Kyle Wiley, Alexander and Samantha Olive; one great-grandson, Nicholas Tobolt; two brothers, Herold and Gene Landrum of Missouri.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Delores.

John I. "Jack" Murphy
John I. "Jack" Murphy, 87 of Des Plaines, formerly of Willow Lake Estates, Elgin died Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the Oakton Pavilion, Des Plaines. He was born on October 30, 1916 in Chicago. He was the son of James J. and Loretta (nee Tierney) Murphy.
Jack was a former resident of Willow Lake Estates, Elgin for over 25 years. He was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee and a longtime choir member. He was a United States Army Veteran. Jack was an avid Opera Buff and supporter of the Chicago Lyric Opera.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Anne E. (nee Breun) Murphy, whom he married
on July 28 1972; his brother, Thomas (Carol) Murphy of Elmhurst; three stepdaughters, Patricia Dore of Wheeling, Kathleen Boyce of Ashland, OR and Mary Beth (Jerry) Rakoczy of Downers Grove; four stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-granddaughter. Many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Catherine Bradley; his sister, Loretta Hagemann; his brothers, William and James Murphy.
Funeral Mass will be on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee. The Rev. David Austin will officiate. Burial will follow in the Queen of Heaven cemetery, Hillside. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Thursday in the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Benny Joe Murphy Jr.
Benny Joe Murphy Jr., 24, of Freeman Spur, IL, formerly of Elgin, IL passed away Monday, August 16, 2004 at Alderwood Care Center, South Elgin from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Southern Illinois. He was born March 18, 1980 in Elgin, the son of Benny Joe Murphy Sr. and Julie Jarka. He had been a resident of Elgin for 16 years before moving to Freeman Spur. He was an avid sportsman and loved to fish and hunt.
Surviving are four children, Benny Joe III, Amber, Peyton and Gerald and their mother, Danette Raudenbusch; his mother and step father, Julie (David) Richardson; his father and step mother, Benny Joe (Caroline Murphy Sr.; two brothers, Cory and Jason Murphy; two step brothers, Timmy and Jimmy Phillips; two step sisters, RaeAnne and Kaeley Phillips; maternal grandmother, Dolly Jarka of Elgin; step grandparents, Judy Richardson of Elgin, Roger and Ruth Thomas of Marion, IL; step great grandparents, James and Caroline Bailey of Marion, IL and George and Betty Kawa of Elgin; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 20, 2004 at 1 PM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 4 to 9 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
Robert F. Paulus
Robert F. Paulus, 71. pf Elgin passed away Sunday, August 15, 2004 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital after an extended illness. He was born June 10, 1933 in Northfield, IL, the son of Robert W. and Viola (nee Laseman) Paulus.
A resident of Elgin for over 60 years, Bob was a graduate of Elgin High School Class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer. Bob was a member of the Elgin Elks Lodge 737 B.P.O.E., and a charter member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church. A carpenter by trade, Bob was also a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 14 for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, JoAnn B. (nee Markovich); his two sons, Douglas F. of Elgin, and Thomas (Sherry) of Platteville, WI; two grandsons, Tristan A. and Andrew J. "A.J.", both of Platteville, WI; and his sister, Helen (Charles) Larson of Mishawaka, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sgt. Sandria L. Paulus, USMC.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 17 at Laird Funeral Home in Elgin from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, August 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Plato Center, with services to follow at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cornerstone United Methodist Church (Al's Fund) or the Rosecrance Foundation, Rockford, IL.
Robert "Bob" Steinmetz
Robert "Bob" Steinmetz, 79, of Elgin died Monday, August 16, 2004 at Sherman Hospital. Bob was born December 19, 1924 in Chicago, the son of Frank and Marge (Brynhoff) Steinmetz. He graduated from Chicago's Steinmetz High School in 1943.
Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army 9th Air Force ETO. He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge #57, member of the York Rite Nobles, and past Master of the Monitor Lounsbury Lodge #522 of Elgin. He was also a member of Tebala Shrine Temple of Rockford, a member and past President of the Elgin Shrine Club, and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth; a son, GySgt. Bruce Steinmetz USMC Ret. of Marysville, Washington; a daughter, Dr. Gail (David) Martin of College Station, Texas; three grandsons, Adam and Miles Martin and Steven Steinmetz.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 20, 2004 from 4 to 9 PM at the O'Connor-Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin with a Masonic Service to be held at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 10 AM with Pastor Olin Sletto officiating. Burial will be private. Robert L. Zirk, Sr.
Robert L. Zirk, Sr., 79, of Huntley, was called to his eternal home on Monday, August 16, 2004 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
He was born December 2, 1924 in Elgin, the son of Albert and Etta (Bartelt) Zirk. Bob served in the Army during World War II with service in both Germany and Japan. Following his service, Bob married
Betty Boncosky on September 16, 1949 at the First Congregational Church in Huntley.
Mr. Zirk was a longtime electrical engineer, beginning his career maintaining equipment for area radio stations in Dundee, DeKalb, and Rockford. He then operated Zirk's Service in Huntley for several years and was known as Huntley's TV repairman. Bob retired from Illinois Tool Works in Elgin where he worked in research and development, which resulted in several patents.
Bob was very involved in the Huntley community, serving on the Huntley School Board and as Post Commander and Chaplain for the Huntley Americn Legion Post #673. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and Elder for many years at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Huntley.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Betty; four children, Robert (Rose) Zirk Jr. of Gilberts, Kathy (Chuck) Yerke of Huntley, Nancy (Frank) Oliver of Elgin, and Vicki (Russ) Wilson of Huntley; seven grandchildren, Lisa and Stephanie Zirk, Andrea (Scot) Hastings, Amanda Yerke, Frank Oliver III, Daniel and Carli Wilson; two great-grandchildren, Dallas and Austin Hastings; a brother, Ronald (Joanne) Zirk of Georgetown, TX; a sister, Bonnie Zirk of Mount Morris; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Shirley Zirk and Melba Jean Hoffman; and a brother, Albert C. Zirk.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 11005 N. Church St., Huntley with the Rev. Charles W. Kittel officiating. Burial will be in the Huntley cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church and prior to services on Friday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Huntley.

Leona Marie Gleason
Leona Marie Gleason, 95, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at Heritage Manor, Elgin.
She was born July 26, 1907. She had been a resident of Elgin for many years and had been employed by the Elgin National Watch Co. and Union National Bank before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands and a son, Ralph.
Private Services were at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Memorials may be given to Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
Frank H. Kasper
Frank H. Kasper, 88, of Willow Lake Estates, Elgin died Saturday, August 17, 2002 at the ASTA Care Center of Elgin.
He was born in Chicago on October 25, 1913, the son of Stanley and Cecelia (nee Holewski) Kasper.
He was a 23 year resident of the Willow Lake Estates area, a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee and a member of the Elgin Moose #799.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Estelle J. (nee Ryczek). They married
on September 28, 1934; two sons, Raymond (Joanne) of Marengo and Robert (Arja) of Hoffman Estates; six grandchildren, Edward, Raymond (Sue), Joseph, Kristin (Chris) Evert, Kimberly and Kari (Scott) Verdonck; great grandpa of Steven, Brandon, Sierra, Matthew, Kyle and Trent; a sister, Florence Scalice of Highland Park; two brothers, Leonard (Josephine) of Streamwood and Ronald of Grayslake; a brother-in-law, Edward Ryczek of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Raymond.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM in the St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Dundee with the Rev. Richard A. Rosinski, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
Visitation will be on Monday from 3 to 9 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Tuesday in the church from 9 AM until time of Mass.
