Dorothy Galloway, 73, of DeKalb, formerly of Elgin, passed away Monday in the Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva, IL. She was born August 2, 1930 in Chicago, IL, and was the daughter of Emil and Loretta Gilson.
She is survived by seven children, Dianna (William) Kunkle of Houtzdale, PA, Kenneth (Elva) Zierk of Carpentersville, IL, Donna (Lewis) Corzine of St. Charles, IL, Lester Zierk of Batavia, IL, Helen Bittner of Lake in the Hills, IL, Bonnie Santana of Lantana, FL and Carol (Jon) Vallo of Hinckley, IL, 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one sister, Esther (Buck) Plummer of West Dundee, IL.
preceded in death by her parents, her husband David Galloway in 2000 and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 1 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Paul Hammar officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice.
Claudia J. Hines
Claudia J. Hines, 56, of Elgin passed away Thursday in her home. She was born January 20, 1947 in Elgin, the daughter of Claude and Ermalee Bledsoe. Claudia had worked at Joseph Spiess Co. and Safety Kleen in Elgin. Member of St. Laurence Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Donald "Toby" Hines of Elgin, one daughter, Megan Hines of Elgin, her father, Claude (Lillian) Bledsoe, her sister, Cindy (Ken) Bornstedt of Mississippi, her brother, Jim Bledsoe of South Elgin, two nieces, Brandi (Jon) Roche and Paige (Jeff) Haymons, one nephew, Joe Hines, one great niece, Taylor Roche, her care giver and special friend, Laima Butkute.
preceded in death by her mother Ermalee Bledsoe.
Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 10 a.m. in St. Laurence Catholic Church, Elgin with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, and on Thursday in the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be made to the St. Laurence Building Fund.
Lewis Johnson, Jr.
Lewis Johnson, Jr., 62, of Cairo, IL, formerly of Elgin, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2003 in St. Francis Hospital, Cape Girardeau, MO.
Lewis was born to Lewis and Ida Mae Johnson on February 28, 1941 in Cairo, IL. Lewis was a 1959 graduate of Sumner High School in Cairo, IL. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1964. He moved to Elgin in 1965. He retired from Illinois Tools Work-Shakeproof Division in 1999 after working there for 34 years.
He is survived by his sons, Lewis Johnson III of Atlanta, GA and Donny Johnson of San Diego, CA; a daughter, Cotina Johnson of South Elgin; grandchildren Chrystian Johnson and Kenya Johnson of Gold Hill, OR; a brother, George (Thomasine) Johnson of Elgin; four sisters, Ella (Everett) Woods of Elgin, Ruthie Tye of Sandusky, OH, Geraldine Patton of Cairo, IL, Carolyn (Marvin) Edwards of Wayne, IL; many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.
His parents and one brother, Glenn Johnson, preceded him in death.

Arlene A. Reiser
Arlene A. Reiser, 87, of Burlington, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2003 at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore.
She was born February 4, 1916 in Woodstock, the daughter of George and Isabelle (Johnson) Bernhardt. She was a 1933 graduate of Woodstock High School. Arlene married
William C. Reiser on June 22, 1939 in Elgin and they lived in Burlington all their married
life.
Mrs. Reiser had been employed by V.J. Plastics of Burlington for over ten years and assisted her husband in the operation of Reiser Trucking of Burlington. Arlene retired in 1997 after 18 years as Burlington Twp. Clerk and served as sexton of the Burlington Twp. Cemeteries for over 15 years. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Burlington, the Ladies Aid Society, and the Quiltors Group of the church.
Surviving are her son William C. (Betty) Reiser Jr. of Burlington, stepdaughter Irene (Larry) Dodd in California, two granddaughters Deborah (Tim) Young of Union, IL, Diane (Bob) Bokar of Batavia, two great-grandchildren Brock and Ashley Young, and a sister Margery Piska of Woodstock.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill on April 6, 1964, and a brother Walter Bernhardt.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30, at the St. John Lutheran Church, 13N535 French Rd., Burlington with Pastor Howard J. Gleason officiating. Burial will be in the Burlington cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 29 at the St. John Lutheran Church and on Saturday prior to services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. service time.

Malinda L. "Linda" Stadie
Malinda L. "Linda" Stadie, 89, of Hampshire, formerly of Elgin, passed away Monday, August 25, 2003 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
She was born April 22, 1914 in Schaumburg, IL, the daughter of August and Claire (Fasse) Lichthardt. Linda married
Richard A. Stadie on December 27, 1951 in Elgin and they resided there for over 45 years before moving to Hampshire in 1997. They enjoyed bowling and playing cards.
Mrs. Stadie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Burlington and formerly of St. John Lutheran Church of Elgin.
Surviving are her son Dwain (Laura) Stadie of Hampshire; three grandchildren Matthew, Nicole and Carly; sisters Betty Harz of Arlington Heights, Henrietta Werner of Elgin, Bertha Struck of Hampshire, and a brother Arnold (Luella) Lichthardt of rural Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard in 1998, brother August Lichthardt and sisters Erna Hunnerberg, Adella Lichthardt, and Florence Dickeau.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 29, at the St. John Lutheran Church, 13N535 French Rd., Burlington with Pastor Howard J. Gleason officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin.

Judith Jane (Bergan) Brown
Judith Jane (Bergan) Brown, 58, life-long resident of Elgin, lost her battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. She was born on January 3, 1946 in Franklin, Indiana, the daughter of William J. and June H. Bergan. She was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1963, Knox College in 1967 and received a Masters of Business Administration from Northern Illinois University in 1995. She was an avid gardener and loved to cook. Known for her sharp wit and leadership skills, she was respected by many in her position as Director, Business Partner Management-Selling at Sears Roebuck & Co. since 1986. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elgin and the Elgin Junior Service Board.
Surviving are a daughter, Carrie (Joel) Freehling of Chicago; a son, Scott (Susanna) Brown of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two grandchildren, Jamison Brown and Alexander Freehling; her parents, William J. and June Bergan of Huntley, formerly of Elgin; a sister, Barbara (Hank) Holz of Elgin; nephews, Jeff (Mary) Holz and Kurt Holz; and many other family members and friends. She was a doting grandmother and the greatest aunt in the world.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St, Elgin with Deacon John De La Garza officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 9 PM. Contributions may be made in her memory to Fox Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Helen I. Schartow
Helen I. Schartow, 97, of Carpentersville died Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at her home. She was born in Elgin on July 6, 1907. She was the daughter of Harold and Anna (nee Nelson) Halldin.
Helen was a life long resident of the Carpentersville-Elgin areas. For over 30 years, she owned and operated Tommy's Tavern located in Old Town Carpentersville. She was a former longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Carpentersville.
She is survived by her four children, Neil (Marilyn) Schartow of East Dundee, Glenda (William) Christie of Carpentersville, Ronald (Barbara) Schartow of California and Carolyn Springob of West Dundee; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; two sisters, Sigrid Paul and Margaret Ebeling. Private burial will be in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. There will be no visitation. Please omit flowers, memorials may be made to the Vitas Hospice. The Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, IL is in charge of arrangements.
Betty Lou Hunter
Betty Lou Hunter, 74, of Elgin, passed away Friday, August 24, 2001 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
She was born June 12, 1927 in Perks, Illinois, the daughter of Arnie and Coretta Corzine Adams.
She had been a resident of Elgin for the past 35 years. She was employed at the Elgin Mental Health Care Center for 35 years before retiring.
Surviving are a daughter, Debbie Helin of Elgin; a grandson, James (Gloria) Helin of Genoa, IL; and a special friend, Joanna Osman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Robert Hunter in 1963.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Steve Srock officiating. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday in Elmwood cemetery, Manteno.
Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 9 PM in the funeral home.
Lucile Sweet
Lucile Sweet, 83, of South Elgin passed away Saturday, August 25, 2001 at her home.
She was born November 29, 1917 in Perry, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Erlene (Fulhart) Furguson-Nadlehoffer.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Elgin. She also attended the First United Methodist Church in West Dundee.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Ann (Charles) Wiese of West Dundee, IL and Marsha (Darrell) Hileman of Alverado, Texas; two sons, Ken (Gloria) Sweet of Elgin and John (Carol) Sweet of South Elgin; two sisters, Arnetta Odom and Pat (Otis) Feaster; a brother, Herbert Ferguson; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kendall in 1988; her parents; a sister, Viva; and two brothers, Elsworth and Bob.
Memorial Services will be held at 4 PM Wednesday, August 29, 2001 in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Interment will be in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
Visitation will be at the time of services only.

Judith K. Childers
Judith K. Childers, 62, of Elgin, passed away Tuesday in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born October 20, 1940 in Elgin, IL and was the daughter of Clayton and Elizabeth (Kenyon) Metzger. Judith had worked at the ASCS for the Department of Agriculture of St. Charles for Dupage and Kane County for nine years, and from 1995 until today she had worked as the office manager at Childers Tool Sales in Elgin. Judith loved sewing, quilting, singing in the church choir, playing handbells and playing golf. She will be missed by all who knew her. Member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Carpentersville from 1969 until the present.
Survivors include her husband Donald, whom she married
on August 6, 1960, two children, Dawn Marie (William J.) Chisholm of Elgin and Melissa Kay (James Elischer) Childers of Elgin, three grandchildren, Savannah Marie Collier, Brianne and Zachary Chisholm, four sisters, Terri (Jim) Belcher of AZ, Kathy (Phil) Miller of WI, Mary (Mike) Popilek of Carpentersville, IL and Debbie (Larry) Sluis of Algonquin, IL and many nieces and nephews.

Clifford W. Edwards, Sr.
Clifford W. Edwards, Sr., 85 of Arizona passed away August 22, 2003 in Arizona. He was born February 26, 1918 in Chicago, the son of Richard and Edna Fandre Edwards.
He was a retired truck driver.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Edith; three sons, Clifford Jr. (Donna) of Phoenix, Ronald (Shirley) of Elgin, and James (Barbara Drews) of Peoria, AZ; five grandchildren, Darrell (Shiela) Edwards, Cheryl Frazer, Debra Edwards, Scott (Andrea) Edwards, Keri (Steve) Jones; assumed granddaughter, Christine Prochnau; brother, Gaynor of Wauconda; five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Fred Edwards; his parents, Richard and Edna; a sister, Valera Dunser; a brother, Russel.
