May T. Rakow, 89, of Elgin, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001 at Oak Crest Residence in Elgin.
She was born July 5, 1911 in Wayne, Ill., the daughter of Hugh and Thora (Lindahl) Stewart.
She had been a resident of Elgin all of her life and was a graduate of Elgin High School and Ellis Business College. She had been employed by Williams Manufacturing from 1930-1942 and by IHC Group (Illinois Hydraulic Construction Co.) from 1972-1998 serving as president from 1972-1980. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Elgin; Messiah Lutheran Church of Twin Lakes, Wis. and Martin Luther Chapel of Marathon, Fla. She was active at the Larkin Center in Elgin and served as board president. She was a member of the Elgin Cosmo Pals, the GD Chapter of P.E.O., and Sherman Hospital Auxillary.
Survivors include a son, Thomas(Susan) Rakow of Elgin; five grandchildren, David (Jean) Rietz, Ellen Rietz,Stephanie (Paul) Doran, Jennifer Rakow and Amanda (Ryan) VanLue; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin "Pete" Rakow; a daughter, Barbara; and a sister, Ann.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001 in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Thomas Niermann officiating. Burial will be private.
Friends may call on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001 from 2-3 p.m.

David M. Sipple
David M. Sipple, 60, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of South Elgin, passed away Jan. 9, 2001.
He was born July 5, 1940.
A memorial luncheon will be 1 p.m., Sunday at the South Elgin Lions Club, 500 Fulton St., South Elgin. Burial is in Tucson, Ariz.

William S. Sobotka
William S. Sobotka, 65, of Elgin, IL, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at Central DuPage Hospital.
He was born October 28, 1935, the son of Stanley and Frances (nee Petersen) Sobotka. He married
Kathleen S. Lamas on May 15, 1975 in Geneva, IL. Served in the US Army. He was a truck driver and dispatcher for the Elgin Courier News until his retirement last year.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Elgin; brother, Richard Sobotka of Maple Park; niece, Lisa (Alan) Welter of Maple Park; nephew, Paul (Sandra) Sobotka of Dixon; and brothers-in-law, Michael, George and Christopher Lamas of Chicago.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Lenore Sobotka.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2001 at 11 AM at the O'Connor & Homeier Funeral Home. Fr. Richard M. Russo officiating. Interment Dundee Township cemetery East. Visitation Saturday, February 3 from 9 AM until 11 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated. O'Connor & Homeier Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Edward F. Zehnle
Edward F. Zehnle, 73, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at Glenbrook Hospital, Glenview.
He was born in Quincy, Ill., Ed was a long time resident of Northbrook. He was a WWII veteran and a lifetime member of VFW Post #642 of Eagle Grove, Iowa. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and for his love of fishing and camping. Ed was retired after 25 years with Starline Express and also over 10 years with Illinois County Detective Agency.
Survivors include his wife, Dee; his children, Karen (Bud) Kendall, Tonda (Barry) Fulton, Paula (Bill) Yoest, Stacie (Carlos) Serratos, David Hunter and Megan Hunter; his grandchildren, Farrah, Buddy, Tom, John and Dolores; his great-grandchildren, Christopher, Dylan and Elizabeth Rose; his nephew, Del Waters; his close friend, Armando Velazquez; and many other nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley who passed away in 1992; his brothers, Marion, Walden and Tully; and his great-grandchild, Shawn.
Chapel prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Norbert Church, Northbrook. Interment will follow at All Saints cemetery, Des Plaines.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m., Friday in the Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave. (2 blks. south of Dundee), Wheeling.

Elayne E. Bradkowski
Elayne E. Bradkowski, 78, of Gilbertsville, Kentucky. Former 32 year resident of Carpentersville. died Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at the Marshall County Hospital, Benton, Kentucky. She was born in Chicago on September 9, 1923. She was the daughter of Elmer and Florence (nee Hill) Kuffer. Elayne was a former many year employee of General Kinematics of Barrington where she worked in the accounting department. She was a former many year member of St. Monica Church, Carpentersville. She was a member of the Kentucky Homemakers Association.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard G., whom she married
on June 8, 1946; a daughter, Mary Anne LaShure of Carpentersville; a granddaughter, Faith N. LaShure (fiance Chris Marston) of Carpentersville and a brother, Owen (LaVergne) Kuffer of Schiller Park.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy, Richard G. Bradkowski, Jr. in 1948; a grandson, Brian B. LaShure on August 13, 1986; a brother, Robert Kuffer.
Funeral services will be on Monday, February 4, 2002 at 9:15 A.M. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee to St. Monica Church of Carpentersville for Mass at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 3, 2002 from 1-5 P.M. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Ellen Marquis
Ellen Marquis, 91, of Elgin passed away Thursday in Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. She was born March 13, 1910 in Broughton, IL and was the daughter of Fred and Margaret (Allen) Schrieber. Resident of Elgin for many years, Ellen had worked for Pearsall's Manufacturing in Elgin prior to her retirement.
She attended Immanuel Baptist Church of Elgin and the Home League of the Salvation Army in Elgin.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Marquis of Elgin; two grandchildren, Rebecca (David) Umberger and James (Amanda) Hudgens, Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Laura, Brian, Michael and Evan; three sisters, Vackel Hood of Elgin, Ruby Stone and Mary Kells, both of Denver, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
preceded in death by her parents; husband, Perry Marquis in 1969; her son, James Hudgens, Sr. and a child in infancy; two brothers, Frank Schrieber and Charles Schrieber; also a sister, Fern Dier.

Robert H. Wauchope
Robert H. Wauchope, age 82, of Poplar Grove, IL, formerly of Elgin. passed away Thursday, January 31, 2002 in his home. He was born October 5, 1919 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Harvey and Mabel Wauchope. He had been a resident of Elgin for over 60 years. He was employed as a carpenter for many years before retiring. He was a veteran of W.W. II, serving in the U.S. Army where he served on the troop trains.
He was a member of Our Redeemer Free Methodist Church of Elgin where he served on many church boards and had recently attended Pine Grove Free Methodist Church, Rockford. He was a member of Carpenters Local 363. He was Treasurer for many years of the Elgin Rehabilitation Center Parent Group.
He is survived by three sons, Gary (Kathy) Wauchope of Glendale, AZ, Terry (Candy) Wauchope of Poplar Grove, IL and Bruce Wauchope of Poplar Grove, IL; seven grandchildren, Sherri (Ted) Collier of Henderson, NV, Robert E. (Cindy) Wauchope of Boise, ID, Cynthia (Kyle) Layne of Glendale, AZ, Kristene (Dean) Rankin of Kingston, MI; Timothy (Lisa) Wauchope of Elgin, Robert S. (Laura) Wauchope of Mitchell, SD and Andrew Wauchope of Indianapolis, IN; ten great-grandchildren, Brianna, Richard, Brooke, Terry, Hannah, Elizabeth, Tyler, Joel, Rose and Samuel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene Lamprecht Wauchope in 1997; a sister, Irene Strahl and two brothers, Roy and Clyde Wauchope.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12:00 NOON in Our Redeemer Free Methodist Church, 1323 Summit St., Elgin with Rev. Jeff Suits and Rev. Paul Bundschuh officiating. Mary M. Condill, 87, of Elgin passed away Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Sherman West Court, Elgin. She was born April 12, 1916 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Sophia Schaben Collins. Mary was a graduate of St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Fort Dodge in 1938. She was a Registered Nurse working private duty at Sherman Hospital and Provena St. Joseph Hospitals until retiring in 1982. She married
Arthur J. Condill on August 3, 1941 in Princeton, MO. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Elgin.
Surviving are her two daughters, JoAnn (Chuck) Page of Sutherlin, OR and Blanche (Jack) Freund of Huntley; a son, Arthur J. (Doris) Condill Jr. of Parkland, FL; nine grandchildren, Shelley (Paul) Leman of North Bend, OR, Dayna (Kent) Boekenhauer of Sycamore, Jackie (Mark) Gupta of Hinsdale, Chris (Sandy) Freund of Crystal Lake, Jenny (Nate) Moore of Huntley, Marcus, Stephen, Tody and Melanie Condill all of Florida; nine great grandchildren, Tyler, Danyelle, Justin, Nathan, Amanda, Michael, Abigail, Brandon and Reece; and three step great grandchildren, Audra, Kurt and Steve.

Greaglee J. Nichols, 81, of Elgin passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at Heritage Manor, Elgin. She was born June 27, 1922 in Sunny Hill, Louisiana, the daughter of Morris P. and Sarah Jenkins. She had been a resident of Elgin for the past 60 years.
Surviving are her three children, Paulette (Al) Olson of California, Jack C. (Cathy) Nichols Jr. of Elgin and Sue (Leland) Mullins of Texas; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Relie Passman of Louisiana; and a brother, Leroy Jenkins of Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack C. Nichols on May 24, 1988; four sisters; and two brothers.

William August Schmitz, Jr.
William August Schmitz, Jr., 80, of Elgin passed away Friday, January 30, 2004 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born August 5, 1923 in Elgin, the son of William A. and Eva Pilcher Schmitz Sr. He had been a resident of Elgin most of his life and for the last several years had spent the winters in Tucson, AZ. He was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1942 and was a member of the undefeated and unscored on football team. He worked with his father at Smitty's Tavern in Elgin until 1967 and then was employed at St. Charles Correctional Center as a Stationary Fireman until retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as an electrician's mate in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of American Legion Post 57 of Elgin and VFW Post 1307 of Elgin.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred "Cookie"; six children, William "Bill" (Sheila) Schmitz III of Lincolnton, Georgia, Joel (Shirley) Schmitz of South Elgin, Paul Schmitz of Wisconsin, Jon (Natalie) Schmitz of Georgia, Mari (David) Anderson of Elgin and Joni Hall of Scroggins, Texas; two step children, Janice (Richard) Struve of Arizona and Allan Johnson of Tucson, Arizona; 19 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Bette Monteith of Elgin; a sister-in-law, Arlene Schmitz of South Elgin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marlyn; a son, Craig; a daughter, Sue; and a brother, Carl Schmitz.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 1 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Chaplain Richard Gilbert officiating. Ruth A. Brown, 84, of Elgin, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2006 in Sherman Hospital. She was born April 19, 1921 in Dundee, IL, the daughter of William and Alma (Wollert) Lueck.
She had been a resident of Elgin for most of her life, working for Motorola for a brief time when she was younger. She enjoyed needle work and gardening. Ruth was a very active member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Elgin and belonged to the Christian Women's Club.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Brown of DeKalb; a daughter, Paulette Brown of Elgin; grandchildren, Anna, Liz and Katy Heine; sisters, Eleanore (Bill) Whitcomb of Elgin, Irene (Joe) Swierkosz of West Dundee, Marion Kozlowski of Barrington, Alma Schultz of Elgin, and Anna (Bill) Mitchell of Arizona; brothers, David (Betty) Lueck of Carpentersville, Charles (Katie) Lueck of Elgin; and many nieces and nephews.
