Kurn F. Fierke
Kurn F. Fierke, age 103, of Elgin died Monday, August 30, 2004 in Rosewood Nursing Center, Elgin. He was born om Carpentersville, IL on August 5, 1901, the son of Charles and Alvina (Witt) Fierke.
On June 6, 1923 he was married
to Lorena Drendel.
He was employed as a machinist at Elgin National Watch Company for many years. He was a member of the fraternal Order of Eagles of Elgin. He was an avid bowler, and for many years bowled with the senior mixed league and the senior men's league in Elgin until he reached 100 years old.
Surviving are two daughters, Arlene Netzbandt of Bloomington, IL and Doloris Rahn of Elgin, IL; four grandchildren, Karen (Danny) Rogman of West Dundee, Joan Netzbandt (Robert Darner) of Bloomington, IL, Sherri Peabody and Sheila (Ronald) Ballack both of Elgin, IL; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorena; two brothers; two sisters; and two sons-in-law, Ronald Netzbandt and Earl Rahn.
Mass for the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel, 55 Center St., Elgin.
Betty M. Richard
Funeral services for Betty M. Richard, 75 of Elgin, will be held Friday, September 3, 2004 at 11:00 AM from Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral and Cremation Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin.
She was born August 29, 1929 in Sikeston, MO, the daughter of Frank and Beulah (Thurston) Minton. She married
John H. Richard. She had been employed as an inspector for Elgin Molded Plastics.
Survivors include one son, Jack of Carpentersville; and one daughter, Balinda (Juan) Porras of Elgin; one brother, Frank Minton of Dexter, MO; and one sister, Dorothy Galloway of Sevierville, TN; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John on July 31, 1987; one son, John Michael Richard; and one grandson.
Visitation is at time of services, only.
Elois "Buddy" Smith
Elois "Buddy" Smith, 84, of Elgin passed away Monday, August 30, 2004 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born on March 19, 1920 in Aurora, IL. Buddy has lived in Elgin for the last 45 years, while enjoying her winters in Ft. Myers, FL. She enjoyed playing golf and cards, socializing with her many friends, gardening, and following the Cubs were her favorite pastimes.
She was a member of Christ the Lord Lutheran Church of Elgin, and the Ladies of the Elks' of Elgin.
Survivors include her son, Richard (Barbara) Douglas of Elgin; two grandchildren, Leanne (Todd) Brockmeyer of Bartlett, IL and Darin Douglas of Elgin; and one great-grandchild on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman Smith in 1991; one sister, Dorothy Morey; and one brother, Louis Sass.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Steve Srock officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the church.
Donna M. Carlson
Donna M. Carlson, age 62, of Elgin passed away Thursday, August 30, 2001 in her home.
She was born April 30, 1939 in Elgin the daughter of Maurice and Florence Mueller Schabert. She had been a resident of Elgin all of her life. She was a graduate of Elgin High School Class of 1957. She was employed by School District U-46 as a Health Secretary at Abbott Middle School and Larkin High School before retiring. She was a member of the Elgin Evangelical Free Church and the Saturday Morning Breakfast Club.
Surviving are husband, Keith I. Carlson whom she married
on June 25, 1960; two sons, Kevin (Wendy) Carlson of Elgin, IL, and Kurtis Carlson of Quincy, IL; three grandchildren, Chelsey, Kody and Zachary; one brother Dennis (Penny) Schabert of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Douglas Schabert.
Funeral services will be held Sunday 2 PM in the Elgin Evangelical Free Church, 1900 Big Timber Rd, Elgin with Rev. Terry Ronan officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held Saturday from 4 PM to 8 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Memorials may be given to Elgin Evangelical Free Church.
Rosemarie B. Akers Johnson
Rosemarie B. Akers Johnson, 69, of Elgin passed away Thursday, August 30, 2001.
She was born February 23, 1932 in Chicago, the daughter of Robert and Anne Kabes Frelack.
She had been a resident of Elgin for the past ten years. She was employed part-time at Summit School as a teachers aide.
Surviving are her husband of two months, James Johnson; a daughter, Sue (Scott) Johnson of Elgin; a son, Douglas (Kerry) Akers of East Dundee; six grandchildren, Erika (Jeremy) Weber, Paul Akers, Laura Akers, Daniel Akers, Rebecca Akers and Carolyn Akers; a great granddaughter, Tyler Colin; a sister, Marilyn Rose of Berwyn; and two brothers, Robert Frelack of Berwyn and James (Christine) Frelack of Texas
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, Harold Akers in 1991.
Private Services will be held in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Summit School Summer School Program.
Dorothy Jones
Dorothy Jones, 73, of South Elgin, formerly of Bartlett, passed away Friday in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
She was born October 15, 1927 in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy Simmons.
Survivors include two children, Donna (John) Kranig of Hanover Park, IL and Jeffrey (Meredith) Jones of Crystal Lake, IL
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Jones in 1999; a son, Kenneth Jones in 1987; and a daughter, Deborah Jones in 1957.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2001 in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin from 4 to 8 PM. Burial and Services will be private.
Ronald E. Lange
Ronald E. Lange, 75, of Sun City-Huntley, formerly of Elgin passed away Thursday, August 30, 2001 in St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
He was born September 15, 1925 in Elgin, the son of Erdmon and Anna Range Lange.
He had been a resident of Elgin most of his life, moving to Sun City in 1999. He was a graduate of Huntley High School. He was employed as Supervisor with The Milwaukee Road Railroad before retiring. He was formerly a Justice of The Peace with Hanover Township and was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Elgin, VFW Post 1307 of Elgin and the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 799 of Elgin.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Kampmeyer Lange; a son, Ron (Katie) Lange of Elgin; two grandchildren, Tony and Cullen Lange; two step children, Donald (Debbie) Grex of Genoa and Debby (Garrett) Garofolo of Gurnee; two step grandchildren, Brittany and Nicholas; a sister, Dorothy Gough of Arkansas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia Fisher Lange; two sisters, Grace Kimball and Evelyn Lange; and three brothers, David, LeRoy and Waldemar Lange.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 AM in Wesley United Methodist Church, Elgin with Rev. Sung Ja-Lee Moon officiating. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 9 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
Memorials may be given to Wesley United Methodist Church.
Richard C. Sinnett, Sr.
Richard C. Sinnett, Sr., 87, of Elgin passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2001in his home.
He was born December 28, 1913 in Elgin, the son of Percy and Ann (Wagner) Sinnett.
Richard had worked for Lamp Construction until 1963 when he formed Sinnett Builders and was the Owner/Operator until his retirement. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He was Past President of the Fox Valley General Contractors Association and Past President of the Elgin Country Club.
Survivors include three sons, Richard (Karen) and David (Ann) Sinnett both of Elgin and Dennis (Rosie) Sinnett of Fort Collins, CO; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen (Ford) Sinnett in November of 1994; and his sister, Lenore Dalieden.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at 6:30 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Thomas O'Connor officiating. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be on Wednesday starting at 4 PM until the time of Services in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fox Valley Hospice or Hospice of Provena St. Joseph Hospital.
Louis C. Hodel
Louis C. Hodel, 88, of Elgin passed away Saturday, August 31, 2002 in the Apostolic Christian Resthaven, Elgin.
He was born April 28, 1914 in Chicago, IL and was the son of William and Johanna Hodel.
A resident of Elgin for many years, he owned and operated Hodel Upholstery in Elgin, and then had been employed by North American Van Lines before retiring. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Elgin, where he had served on the Church Council and a member of the Challengers. He was a member of the Elgin Marine Club.
Survivors include his wife, Marie, whom he married
on April 11, 1941; two daughters, Bonnie (Dave) Starr and Betty (Lyle) Dolan both of Elgin; two grandchildren, Kim (Steve) Wascher and Matt (Stephanie) Starr; three great grandchildren, Ryan Englehardt, Evan Starr and Jacob Wascher; three sisters, Rose Hodel of Naperville, IL, Irma (Richard) MacFagen of Waterman, IL and Barb (Jack) Grahovec of Naperville, IL; three brothers, Otto (Karen) Hodel of WI, Arnold (Kaye) Hodel of AR and Fred Hodel of Naperville, IL.
He was preceded by his parents; and two brothers.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at 11:30 AM in the St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Elgin with Rev. Dr. Robert Kasper officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, and on Wednesday in the church from 11 AM until the time of Services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Apostolic Christian Resthaven or St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
Hilda Mascote
Hilda Mascote, 30, of Kingston, formerly Elgin, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2002 at home after a long illness.
She was born September 5, 1971 the daughter of Francisco and Maria (Angeles) Mascote.
she is survived by her parents, Francisco and Maria Mascote; seven brothers and sisters, Balhine (Juan) Cruz, Francisco (Jill) Mascote, Cataline (Alejandro) Paramo, Jose Noe, Raul Mascote, Jose Antonio Mascote and Elizabeth Mascote; paternal grandparents, Antonio and Leonar Mascote; many aunts and uncles; and 12 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Isreal Mascote.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at 10 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elgin, IL with Fr. Hector Mareno officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 PM Tuesday, September 3, 2002 in the O'Connor and Homeier Funeral Home.
