Sylvia M. Wesemann
Sylvia M. Wesemann, 93, of Elgin passed away Friday, August 30, 2002 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
She was born September 12, 1908 in Elgin, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Mathias) Dohle.
She was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1924. She had been employed as a seamstress for Singer's Style Shop and by the Elgin Case Factory. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, the Ladies Auxiliary of the church, Elgin Women of the Moose #610 and Ladies "Pieces of Eight" Club in Elgin.
Survivors include her son, Gerald C. (Claudia) Boundy of Scottsdale, AZ; her daughter, Bonita Claire "Bonnie" (Richard) Beu of Elgin; grandchildren, David Boundy, Marlese (Rob) MacLaughlin, Cherylee (Rich) Mills, Jason Beu and Joshua (Amber) Beu.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Clarence Earl Boundy whom she married on August 26, 1926 and who preceded her on May 5, 1960; and Carl Frederic Wesemann, whom she married on July 10, 1966 and who died May 10, 2000; and a brother, Edwin Mathias Dohle.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 5, 2002 at 11 AM in the Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Robert Kasper of St. Paul's United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Sylvia's name to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Elgin, Illinois.

Carl E. Arians Jr.
Carl E. Arians Jr., age 80, of Plato Township, died Sunday, August 31, 2003 at his home.
He was born December 9, 1922 in Elgin, IL, the son of Carl Sr. and Nettie Arians.
He was employed by Tash Inc. of Des Plaines, IL from 1962 until 1988. During that time he became Vice President/General Sales Manager. After his retirement, he continued with the company as a consultant and later worked part time for Crest Photo Lab in Elgin.
Mr. Arians attended Elgin Public school. Carl enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater during World War II. He participated at Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and VE Day. His memberships included the Kiwanis Golden K. Club in Elgin, the Elgin Elks Club, the Golf League of Elks, St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pingree Grove, IL and was formerly a member of the Central High School Sports Boosters Club. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching professional sports, and spending time at his summer cottage on Lake Somo in Tomahawk, WI.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Alice; two sons, Michael (June) of Oregon, IL and Eric (Kelli) of Plato Township, IL; two sisters, Lois (Robert) Deuchler of Dundee, IL and Maxine Pleasant of Mission Viejo, CA; two grandchildren, Amy D. Bumsted of Algonquin, IL and Nathan Arians of Plato Township and two great-grandchildren, Bradley Paul Bumsted, Jr. and Emily Sue Bumsted. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-son, Creighton C. Webb, his brother, Richard and his sister, Viola Latina.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, September 4 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pingree Grove, IL. Rev. Lauren Krout will officiate. Burial will be in Plato cemetery, Plato Center, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main Street, St. Charles. Joseph John Castro
Joseph John Castro, 46, of St. Charles died suddenly at his home on Sunday, August 31, 2003. He was born July 30, 1957, in Elgin, the son of Severo and Petra (Martinez) Castro.
A graduate of St. Charles High School, John continued his studies and graduated from the Washburne School of Culinary Arts in Chicago. He worked as a chef at Mill Race Inn in Geneva, the Hideaway Lodge Restaurant in St. Charles and the Tally Ho Restaurant in Carol Stream. He served in the United States Army. John was the devoted caregiver to both of his parents for several years. He was a much loved uncle to many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
John is survived by his brothers and sisters, Alejo (Elaine) Castro of Bernie, Missouri, Juanita (Thomas) Benavidez of St. Charles, Severo Castro, Jr. of South Elgin, David Castro of Woodstock, Regina (Mark) Morgan of St. Charles, Carol (Charles) Walker of South Elgin, Belen (Larry) Hood of St. Charles, Patsy Castro of South Elgin, and a dear sister-in-law, Linda Castro of St. Charles; many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Petra and Severo Castro.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 5, 2003, at the Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third Street, St. Charles, with Captain Todd Thielke officiating. Burial will be in River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2003, at the Norris Funeral Home.

Dorothy M. DeWitte
Dorothy M. DeWitte, 76, of St. Charles, died Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at Rosewood Care Center in St. Charles.
She was born January 14, 1927, in Herrin, Illinois, in the family home where her father also was born in 1901. She was the only child of Clyde and Helen (Bell) Hunter and the only grandchild of her paternal grandparents, William T. and Ora (McCormick) Hunter. When she was eight years, Dorothy and her parents moved to Manteno, where she graduated from the local schools. She then attended St. Mary Hospital School of nursing in Kankakee and subsequently moved to St. Charles where she worked as office assistant for the late Donald E. Dick, M.D.
In 1948, Dorothy and Alphonse D. DeWitte of St. Charles were married at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Always one to enjoy a challenge, it was while she was at home raising her three sons that she became interested in writing and politics, two interests she pursued throughout an active life.
She was for many years an active member of the St. Charles Township Republican Central Committee, and secretary of the Kane County Republican Central Committee. In 1986, she was appointed as one of five members of the St. Charles Township Senior Services Committee during Walter Sava's tenure as Township Chairman.
She was a past-president of St. Charles American Legion Auxiliary 342. She also served a term as president of the Hotel Baker Living Center, a senior citizen residence. Her interest in writing led to the publication of numerous children's stories and poetry in reading textbooks published by Science Research Associates, and articles and stories published in The Rotarian, Family Digest, Teen Magazine, and Eucharist, a Catholic religious publications.
When her three sons were old enough to attend school, Dorothy became a freelance news and feature writer for the Elgin Daily Courier, the Aurora Beacon, and the St. Charles Chronicle. She later joined the staff at the St. Charles Chronicle as a reporter and columnist, reporting on local issues and events in her weekly column "Dottie's Diggins." She eventually became news editor, managing editor, and then associate editor. In 1971, she was accepted into Sigma Delta Chi, Professional Journalistic Society, Northern Illinois Chapter, by invitation.
Dorothy later became Kane County Legislative Assistant to the late U.S. Congressman Robert McClory (R-Lake Bluff) managing his offices in Elgin, and later, Carpentersville. When he resigned after 20 years in Washington, Dorothy became legislative assistant to Illinois State Senator Doris C. Karpiel (R-Carol Stream) for four years. In later years, she returned to freelance writing with the St. Charles Republican.
Dorothy is survived by her three sons, Alan (Gail) of Elburn, Donald (Diane) of St. Charles and John of Chicago; three grandsons, Joseph (Chamberlin) of Maple Park, Patrick Hunter DeWitte and Michael James DeWitte of St. Charles and a maternal aunt, Mrs. Kenneth (Lillian) Proffit of Herrin.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Alphonse, who before his death in 1995, was a 24-year member of the St. Charles City Council and a past commander of American Legion Post #342.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2003, at St. Patrick Church, 408 Cedar Street, St. Charles, with Monsignor Joseph B. Linster celebrant. Burial will be in Union cemetery, St. Charles.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m., on Friday, September 5, 2003, at the Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third Street, St. Charles, with a liturgical service at 7:30 p.m. Dorothy's family would like to acknowledge Fox Valley Family Physicians, Delnor Community Hospital, Rosewood Care Center, and Vitas Hospice for their care and compassion during the last months of Dorothy's life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. 6th Avenue, St. Charles, IL, or Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 S. LaFox, South Elgin, IL 60177.

Monica M. Keisler
Monica M. Keisler, 77, of Elgin Township passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at her home. She was born March 19, 1926 in Burlington, IL, the daughter of Chris and Loretta (Haderer) Axelsen.
Monica was united in marriage to Lloyd A. Keisler on August 28, 1943 and they spent the next 60 happy years together. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
Mrs. Keisler was a long time member of Zion United Methodist Church of Hampshire, IL.
She is survived by her husband Lloyde, her son Dwayne of Elgin, her sister Norma (Howard) Crawford of Elburn, daughter-in-law Linda Keisler of Clifton, IL, brother-in-law Laverne (Alice) Keisler of Elgin, Kenneth Greve of WI, sister-in-law Dodie Keisler of Dundee, IL, eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Ruth Ann Park, her son Dale, a sister-in-law Aelene Greve, daughter-in-law Vi Keisler, two brothers-in-law Donald Keisler and Maune Jensen and her father and mother-in-law August and Christine Keisler.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 5, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Madison Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dundee Township cemetery, East. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Anderson Animal Shelter or Hospice of Northeastern Illinois.

Marcia L. Smith
Marcia L. Smith, 46, of Elgin and Thornfield, MO, died Sunday, August 31, 2003 in her sleep at home.
Marcia was born July 20, 1957, the daughter of Stuart and Joan Murray Smith in Waterloo, Iowa.
She was a very skilled semi dump truck driver and had her nickname, "the Martian", painted on the truck she operated. She also was the Office Manager for MEADOWS TRUCKING.
In the winter, she resided in Thornfield, MO, where she helped with the management and operation of a cattle ranch. She enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and fishing.
Survivors include her companion, George "Cy" Meadows of Elgin and Thornfield, MO.; her children, Melissa (Joshua) Lohrer of Stanwood, Iowa and Kelsey Boyle of Mansfield, MO.; her mother, Joan Crow; her stepmother, Wanda Smith; three grandchildren, Tyler, Tempest and Takoda Lohrer; a sister, Kriss (Jeff) Burkle; a brother, Jeff (Jan) Smith; a stepsister and stepbrother, Amy and Mike Menke; and many nieces and nephews. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Stuart Smith; a brother, Craig Smith; and her former husband, Theodore "Ted" Boyle.
Plans for a memorial service in Elgin are incomplete at this time. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2003 at Oak Hill cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Edlyn M. Webster-Giesen
Edlyn M. Webster-Giesen, 88, of Carpentersville, former many year resident of Des Plaines and Deerfield died Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Lexington Healthcare Center in Lake Zurich. She was born in Deerfield on April 7, 1915. She was a resident of the Carpentersville area for the past six years. She was a former active member of the Ladies of the Elks in Des Plaines.
Survivors include her daughter Kathy L. (Patrick) Shrum of Carpentersville, two grandsons: Jason of Lake In The Hills and Christopher of Carpentersville. Her sister Betty (Robert) Mitchell of Moscow, ID, her niece: Susan (Robert) Gallagher of Bettendorf, IA. Her great nephews and niece Robert, Kelley and Brian.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Burrell Webster and her grandson: Patrick M. Shrum.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will be private in the Memorial Park cemetery, Skokie. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the Rainbow Hospice, 444 N. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068.

Howard D. Zaeske
Howard D. Zaeske, age 82, a resident of the Holmstead in Batavia and formerly a resident of Wheaton, died Tuesday, September 2 at Michealsen Health Care Center at the Holmstead. He was born on November 6, 1920 in Aurora to Herbert and Myrtle Zaeske.
He was a longtime employee of East Texas Motor Freight and also worked for ABF. He was a member of the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church and had been a member of Claim Street Baptist Church in Aurora, where he played in the softball league.
Howard is survived by three children, Mike Zaeske of Tuscon, AZ, Pattie (JW) Johnson of Fredericktown, MO, and LuAnne Zaeske of Belleuve, WA; four grandchildren, Dan (Linda) Guyer, Jenny (Jim) Anderson, Susan (Darrell) Woodard, and Melanie Zaeske; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Chase of Montgomery; and four step-children.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Lila Mae Zaeske in 1976 and Doris B. Zaeske in 2001; his parents; one brother, Marvin Zaeske.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street in Wheaton.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt Rd. in Wheaton with Rev. Bruce Love officiating.
A graveside service will follow at Wheaton cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the church.

Carl DeFranco
Carl DeFranco, 81, of Elgin passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2004 in the Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. He was born on May 7, 1923 in Savanna, IL, and was the son of Epifanio and Concetta (Ogeneba) DeFranco.
Carl was a Veteran and served in the US Navy during WWII. He had worked as an Engineer for the Milwaukee Rail Road 35 years prior to his retirement. Carl was an avid gardener, and enjoyed growing tomatoes.
Member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, whom he married on July 11, 1942; a son, Jay (Kathleen) DeFranco of Olney, MD; two grandchildren, Nicole (Michael) Rich and Christopher DeFranco; three great grandchildren, Madison, Nicholas and Hunter Rae; two brothers, Michael (Jean) DeFranco of Chicago and Louis (Theresa) DeFranco of WA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and sisters.
Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at 1:00 PM in the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elgin. Entombment will follow in Mt. Hope cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8:00 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Saturday in the church from 12:30 PM until the time of services.
