Rudolf "Rudy" Deimer
Rudolf "Rudy" Deimer, 72, of East Dundee died Sunday, September 5, 2004 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was born on July 11, 1932 in Trostberg, Germany. Rudy was a 43-year resident of the East Dundee area. He was a member of the German American Police Association, the DANK, and a member of Rheinische Verein.
He is survived by his wife of 48-years, Inge (nee Funk) Deimer. They married
on March 3, 1956; their children, Thomas (Rhonda), of Arvada, CO, Terry (George) Harris, of Fox River Grove; four grandchildren, Brett and Jonathon, of Arvada, CO, Christina and Alexandra Harris, of Fox River Grove; one brother, Kurt (Maria) Michl, of West Chicago; several brothers and sisters in Germany.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private family funeral services will be held. There will be no visitation. Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Elijah Jayvon Quentin Ferguson
Elijah Jayvon Quentin Ferguson, Baby Boy, of Elgin passed away Friday, September 3, 2004 at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. He was born August 5, 2004 in Elgin, the son of Rudell Ferguson and Karen Bottorff.
Survivors include his parents; twin brother, Rudell Ferguson Jr.; brother, Joseph Bottorff; sister, Abigail Ferguson; grandparents, Larry and Sue Kowalski of Carpentersville, Illinois and Quentin and Donetta Bottorff of Springfield, Illinois; an aunt, Patricia Kowalski; an uncle, Benjamin Bottorff; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 10, 2004 at 1 PM in the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Elgin Chapel, 51 Center St. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the time of services in the funeral home.
Virginia Keller
Virginia Keller, 86, of Burlington passed away Monday, September 6, 2004 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. She was born October 21, 1917 in Burlington, the daughter of George and Josephine (Seisser) Herrmann. Virginia married
Albert G. "Al" Keller Jr. on November 9, 1938 at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire. They operated a dairy farm in Burlington for 30 years. She had also been employed at Standard Pharmaceutical in Elgin and Playskook Mfg. in Hampshire.
Mrs. Keller was a life long member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved flowers and her gardens were showplaces.
Surviving are five children, Albert III "Skip" (Joan) Keller of Boscobel, WI, Marcia (David) Dieckman of Ladysmith, WI, Karla (Roger) Thrun of Elgin, Roger (Donna) Keller of Crystal Lake and Donna (Mike) Block of Burlington; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren; four sisters, Catherine Haderer of rural Sycamore, Dolores Andersen of Burlington, Isabelle Stadler of Hampshire and Charlotte (Robert) Seyller of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Al on March 21, 2002; son-in-law, Omar Dieckman; brothers, George, Albert and Carl Herrmann; and a sister, Antoinette "Bud" Seyller.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 9, at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 297 E. Jefferson St., Hampshire with Fr. Joseph Nicolosi officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles Borromeo cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire with Rosary at 3:45 PM.

Iris N. Pritchard
Iris N. Pritchard, 87, of Elgin, died Monday, September 6, 2004. She was born in Elgin, the daughter of Arthur and Nellie Bruckner.
Surviving are two sons, Larry (Dee) and Robert; a daughter, Susan MacKinney; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mary "Jerry" Piane.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Irma Bruckner; her brothers, Robert and Richard, and her husband, H. Logan Pritchard.
She will be deeply missed by her family, her special friends from the neighborhood and her coworkers from the Joseph Spiess Co. where she worked for more than 25 years as the buyer of clothing for women.
Services will be private.

Michael T. Rayner
Michael T. Rayner, 35, of Elgin passed away Friday, September 3, 2004 in his home. He was born in Elgin on July 11, 1969, the son of Jesse and Gloria (Broadnax) Rayner.
Michael was a graduate of Elgin High School and was employed by Bluff City Materials. Michael was a loving son, father, uncle, and brother. He will be missed by many.
Survivors include his parents; his loving daughter, Cierra C. Rayner of Robinson, IL; a stepson, Adam Young of Robinson, IL; six sisters, Alma Kerrent of TN, Margaret Cozart of TN, Jacqueline (Wallace) Bell of Detroit, MI, Janice (Mahdi) Robleh of Detroit, MI, Erica (Oliver) Houston of Elgin, Lea Hodge of Elgin; four brothers, Lance Hodge of Elgin, Phillip (Vickie) Hodge of Elgin, Perry Hodge of Elgin, Jeffrey Blarak of Detroit, MI; a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, two brothers, and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. in the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services, Elgin Chapel, 51 Center St. Interment will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Jack "Duke" Morris
Jack "Duke" Morris, 74, of South Elgin, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2001 in his home after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born June 30, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Jack and Margaret (Fishbach) Morris.
He had been a resident of South Elgin for the past 37 years. He was employed by the Elgin Mental Health Center for 40 years and then the Elgin Daily Courier News for 11 years before retiring. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Jack enjoyed fishing, softball and his grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church in Elgin; a member of VFW Post 1307 of Elgin; and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 799 of Elgin.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura (George) Hankins and Lisa (Edward) Schmitt, both of South Elgin; three sons, John (Sharon) Morris, Joe Morris and Jeff (Alyson) Morris, all of South Elgin; 12 grandchildren, Jonathon (Elena) Morris, Randy Houston, Kristine Houston, Jack Weber, Shawna Hankins, MeganBlanchette, Jason Morris, David Morris, Emily Morris, Holden Morris, Tyler Schmitt and Ryan Schmitt; two great-grandchildren, Adrian and JonathonMorris; and a brother, William (Darlene) Morris of Wilmot, Wis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred in 1992; a daughter, Linda Morris in 1970; and a sister, Mildred Morris.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Antioch, Ill. (557 W. Lake St.). Burial will be in Mt. Carmel cemetery, Antioch.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Monday at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
Laverne Edward Newsome
Laverne Edward Newsome, 95, of Indianapolis, Ind. passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2001 in Indiana.
He was born Oct. 21, 1907 on Hill Ave. in Elgin, the son of Edward and Cora Lee Elizabeth (Spurlark) Newsome.
Mr. Newsome graduated from Elgin High School in 1925, he received his Bachelor's Degree from Northwestern University School of Music in 1929, a Master's Degree in 1947. He taught music at Taladega College, Alabama from 1929 to 1937 leaving to teach music at Crispus Attucks High School, Indianapolis from 1937 to 1974 with time out for military service in Italy during World War II, serving as a Sergeant in the 371st Infantry Regiment, 92nd "Buffalo" Division from 1942 to 1945. He was the Assistant Band Director for the Regiment in 1944. After the war he returned to Elgin where he gave free violin recitals at his father's home on Orange St. He relocated to Indianapolis, Ind. He became 2nd Violin for the Indianapolis Philharmonic Orchestra from 1947 to 1992 devoting much of his spare time teaching children the violin. He received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Wabash College, Ind. May 13, 2001. He also received more than a dozen additional awards. He was involved in the Black Music Caucus Conference April, 1988 where he received an award for his efforts and contributions.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Maenell Hamlin Newsome, whom he married
on June 15, 1940; a niece, Judith Casey; and a great-nephew, Allen Casey.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian and Helen.
Funeral Services were held Aug. 29, 2001 at the Light of the World Church in Indianapolis.
His friends, relatives and students will mourn the passing of this kind and talented man.
James Hubbard
James Hubbard, 55, of Itasca, formerly of Elgin, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2003, in St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, IL. He was born February 27, 1948, in Evanston, IL, the son of Gene and Virginia Winandy Hubbard.
Survivors include one brother, Gary (Christy) Hubbard of Elgin; and two sisters, Linda (Christopher) Ferrara of Hebron and Laren (Ben) Root of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William in 1989.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 11, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-9 P.M. at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin.

George Kastner
George Kastner, 81, of Elgin passed away Saturday, September 6, 2003 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born November 19, 1921 in Friendship, WI and was the son of Frank and Anna (Novy) Kastner. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1940 and joined the USMC that same year. He served from June 19, 1940 until March 1, 1965 and retired with the rank of GYSGT. He was a USMC survivor from the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown when it was sunk during the battle of Midway during World War II. After leaving the Marine Corps., he worked as a Metropolitan Life Insurance representative until retirement. He was an avid sportsman with golf being his favorite pastime. He was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church and was past council president. He was past Commandant of the Elgin Marine League. He was past president of the Elgin Life Underwriters Association.
Surviving are two sons, Craig "Red" (Stacey) Kastner of Ft. Pierce, FL and Mark Kastner of Elgin, one daughter, Susan Porter of Northbrook, IL, grandchildren Jessie, Kristin, Will and Sarah, one sister, Blanche McCue of Jackson, MI.
He was preceded by his parents, twin brother Milo at age 4 and one son, Michael.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Patricia Hewitt officiating. Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood, IL. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Annette Null
Annette Null, 55, of Carpentersville passed away in Kentucky from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. She was born January 22, 1948 in Chicago, the daughter of Constantine "Gus" and Eileen Leta Nakis. She had been a resident of Carpentersville since 1978 and had been employed by Grayhill, Inc. for 25 years.
Surviving are her two sons, William E. (Julie) Null of Algonquin and John M. Null of Lake in the Hills, her fiance, Leonard Urban of Carpentersville, two grandchildren, William and Mya, her mother, Eileen Nakis of Chicago, her brother, John (Rosemary) Nakis of Park Ridge, two step sons, Jeff Urban of Carpentersville and Anthony (Lea) Urban of Wisconsin; two nephews, Michael and Joseph Nakis; and her former husband, William Null of Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 9 at 8 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St., West Dundee. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of services in the funeral home.
Robert E. Smith
Robert E. Smith, 78, of Cecil, Wisconsin, formerly a resident of Illinois, died Saturday, September 6, 2003, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born December 26, 1924 to Carl and Selma Smith in Blytheville, Arkansas.
Robert is a Veteran of World War II and a former Police Officer for the Kane County Sheriff's Department. He also owned and operated Smith Construction.
Survivors include his wife, Joan C. Smith of Belvidere, IL; two daughters, Cynthia J. VanWambeke of West Dundee, IL. and Connie L. (John) Cavalzani of Rockford, IL; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Selma Smith; one daughter, Marcy Lee Smith formerly of Elgin, IL; and one son, Robert B. Smith formerly of Huntley, IL.
In accordance with Robert's wishes, there will be a private memorial for family members only.
Donations can be made in his memory to the American Lung Association.
Fern L. Felke
Fern L. Felke, 79, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of West Dundee died Friday, September 3, 2004 in the Regal Assisted Living Center in Phoenix. She was born in Chicago, IL on September 19, 1924.
Fern was the daughter of William and Hilmira (nee Christensen) Knudsen. She was a former 27 year resident of West Dundee and a member of the Dundee VFW Ladies Auxiliary #2298.
She is survived by her three daughters, Holly (Alan R.) Ferrarini of Huntley, Cheryl (Tim) Covey of Maple Grove, MN and Robin (David) Lewis of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Lori, David, Trevor, Ryan, Jason, Heather, Courtney and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Max, Zachary, Madeline, Brice, Kaitlyn and Tanner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years, Robert E. Felke on March 8, 1995. They married
on January 18, 1947; four brothers, Willard, Robert, Bernard and James.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at 10:00 AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. The Rev. Jerome Diers will officiate.
