Michael T. Rayner
Michael T. Rayner, 35, of Elgin passed away Friday, September 3, 2004 in his home. He was born in Elgin on July 11, 1969, the son of Jesse and Gloria (Broadnax) Rayner.
Michael was a graduate of Elgin High School and was employed by Bluff City Materials. Michael was a loving son, father, uncle, and brother. He will be missed by many.
Survivors include his parents; his loving daughter, Cierra C. Rayner of Robinson, IL; a stepson, Adam Young of Robinson, IL; six sisters, Alma Kerrent of TN, Margaret Cozart of TN, Jacqueline (Wallace) Bell of Detroit, MI, Janice (Mahdi) Robleh of Detroit, MI, Erica (Oliver) Houston of Elgin, Lea Hodge of Elgin; four brothers, Lance Hodge of Elgin, Phillip (Vickie) Hodge of Elgin, Perry Hodge of Elgin, Jeffrey Blarak of Detroit, MI; a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, two brothers, and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. in the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services, Elgin Chapel, 51 Center St. Interment will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Arve I. Fransen
Arve I. Fransen, 74, of Carpentersville died Sunday, September 9, 2001 at his home.
He was born in East Dundee on December 21, 1926, the son of Ivar and Lennea (nee Svendsen) Fransen.
He was a life long resident of the Dundee-Elgin areas. Co-owner of the Bittersweet Tap in Carpentersville. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Carpentersville, a World War II Navy veteran having served on LST #70, a member of the Carpentersville VFW #5915, Carpentersville Moose #1958 and Carpentersville Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, June (nee Condill) Fransen. They married
on December 31, 1948; four daughters, Kay (Kurt) Fabrycy of Carpentersville, Kristine (Richard) Benson of East Dundee, Karen (Richard) Geeve of Egg Harbor, Wisconsin and Kelly (John) Kordat of Fox River Grove; grandfather of nine; great grandfather of four; a brother, Donald (Lorraine) Fransen of California; two sisters, Blanche (Robert) Harvey of California and Charlotte Shaw of Belvidere. Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Christopher J. Benson; a brother, Herbert Fransen; and a sister, Myrtle Wells.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at 11 AM in the Faith Lutheran Church, Carpentersville with the Rev. Bruce Meissner officiating. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 to 9 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Wednesday in the church from 10 AM until time of Service.
Please omit flowers, memorials may be made either to the Faith Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
Bonnie Martin
Bonnie Martin, 78, of Marion, Illinois, formerly of Elgin, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2001 at Marion Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 19, 1923 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, the daughter of Milton and Lillian (Isacs) Payne.
Survivors include two children, William "Gary" (Peggy) Martin of Sanford, Florida and Dave (Diane) Martin of South Elgin; three grandchildren, Rodney Martin, Stacy (Craig) Hildebrandt and Natalie Martin; a great grandchild, Jeremy Hildebrandt; three brothers, George Payne, Art Payne and Jim (Jackie) Payne; and two sisters, Christine Davey and March (Donald) Rich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elbert "Bill" in 1978; a son, Rodney Martin in 1968; a brother, William Glenn "Pete: Payne; and a sister, Oma Tillmann.
Funeral Services will be private. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
There will be no visitation.

Jack "Duke" Morris
Jack "Duke" Morris, 74, of South Elgin, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2001 in his home after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born June 30, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Jack and Margaret (Fishbach) Morris.
He had been a resident of South Elgin for the past 37 years. He was employed by the Elgin Mental Health Center for 40 years and then the Elgin Daily Courier News for 11 years before retiring. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Jack enjoyed fishing, softball and his grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church in Elgin; a member of VFW Post 1307 of Elgin; and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 799 of Elgin.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura (George) Hankins and Lisa (Edward) Schmitt, both of South Elgin; three sons, John (Sharon) Morris, Joe Morris and Jeff (Alyson) Morris, all of South Elgin; 12 grandchildren, Jonathon (Elena) Morris, Randy Houston, Kristine Houston, Jack Weber, Shawna Hankins, Megan Blanchette, Jason Morris, David Morris, Emily Morris, Holden Morris, Tyler Schmitt and Ryan Schmitt; two great-grandchildren, Adrian and Jonathon Morris; and a brother, William (Darlene) Morris of Wilmot, Wis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred in 1992; a daughter, Linda Morris in 1970; and a sister, Mildred Morris.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Antioch, Ill. (557 W. Lake St.). Burial will be in Mt. Carmel cemetery, Antioch.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Monday at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
Kathryn B. Simonsen
Kathryn B. Simonsen, 88, of East Dundee passed away Friday, September 7, 2001 in Provena Pineview Care Center, St. Charles.
She was born March 13, 1913 in Woodstock, IL, the daughter of Robert and Margaret Wakeley.
She had been a resident of East Dundee for most of her life. She had been employed by Haeger Potteries, East Dundee before retiring. She was a member of First Congregational Church of West Dundee.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Jason Simonsen, Julie Simonsen and Jessica Simonsen, all of St. Charles, IL; three nieces, Judith (Ben) Naccarato of Rathdrum, Idaho, Nancy (Philip) Tharp of Outlook, Wash and Ruth Wakeley of Spokane, Wash; and several great and great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Simonsen; a son, David Simonsen; and two brothers, William and Chick Wakeley.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 11 AM to 12 Noon in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St. (corner of S. Third and Oregon), West Dundee. Graveside Services will follow in Dundee Township East cemetery with Rev. Pam Pendexter officiating.
Memorials may be given to the First Congregational Church, West Dundee.
Gladys Jean Larson
Gladys Jean Larson, 84, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, formerly of Elgin passed away Friday, September 5, 2003. She was born April 7, 1919 in Lake City, IL and was the daughter of Adam B. and Sadie Pearl Brown Alexander. She had been a resident of Elgin most of her life, and was employed by Copley Newspaper's Daily Courier News for 37 years, retiring in 1984.
She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin, the Elgin Womans Club, Ladies of the Elks, Elgin Women's Republican Club, Women of the Moose, Elgin Historical Society, Larkin Center Auxiliary and served as coordinator of the V.I.P. Senior Citizen program for ten years. Most recently she was a member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Janis G. Vogt of Broken Arrow; her granddaughter, Rise & Stephen Burton; her grandson, Tod K. and Candace Vogt; four great-grandchildren, Emily and Seth Burton, Hannah and Lucas Vogt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theodore O. Larson; two great-granddaughters, Abigail Elizabeth Burton and Claire Louise Vogt; one sister, Grace Kelley; two brothers, Forrest M. Alexander and Gerald W. Alexander.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Laird Funeral Home in Elgin is in charge of services.
Nancy R. Miller
Nancy R. Miller, 69, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2003 in her home. She was born June 15, 1934 in Indiana. Nancy was a graduate of Cottey College in Iowa. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Elgin, a member and past president of the Sherman Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter GD.
Survivors include two sons, Karl (Barb) Clausen of Elk Grove Village, IL and Paul Miller of New York, one daughter, Ellen (Doug) Krause of Waukegan, IL, four grandchildren, Anne Dabrowski, Andrew, Ashley Ann and Taylor Krause, and two brothers, Paul and Don Rush of Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, David C. Miller in 1995.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 40 Center St., with the Rev. Laura Truby officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St. (Rt. 31), Elgin, and on Thursday in the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Prudence Charlotte Shirvis
Prudence Charlotte Shirvis, 94, of Elgin, passed away Monday, September 8, 2003 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born May 3, 1909 in Elgin, and was the daughter of Oscar and Gertie E. (Kenyon) Gronlun. Prudence was raised in Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School in 1927. She then attended and graduated from Iowa State University in 1931 holding a Bachelor degree in Home Economics and Dietetics.
Prudence worked as a Manager of food services at Carson Pirie Scott department store in Chicago, IL, Lawrence College in Appleton, WI, and Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL. She was a member of the Elgin Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution since 1976, and also served as Chapter Chaplain.
She also was a volunteer and member of the Board of Directors of the Elgin Day Care Center for 22 years, a member of the Eastern Star for 71 years, a member of the Elgin Delphians Society since 1979. Until recently she maintained a summer home in Manitowish Waters, WI. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia P. Shirvis of Elgin, IL and Carol J. Nesbitt of Largo, FL; her granddaughter, R. Carrie Nesbitt of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Prudence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Zenon Shirvis, whom she married
on October 8, 1939 in Burlington, IA; her sister, G. Arline Gronlun; two brothers, Donald William and Hubert Kenyon Gronlun.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Larry Pickens officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Elgin Day Care Center.
Hilma E. Schlenhardt
Hilma E. Schlenhardt, 65, of Sun City Huntley, formerly of West Dundee and Chicago, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2004 at her home, after a long battle with cancer. She was born July 29, 1939 in Germany, the daughter of Ludwig and Olga (Weide) Schroeder.
On June 21, 1958, she married
Martin Schlenhardt in Chicago, where they resided for 13 years, before moving to West Dundee in 1971. While living in West Dundee, Hilma owned and operated the North End Beauty Salon in Elgin, before moving to Sun City in Huntley in March of 2003. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Huntley, the American Aid Society, and the German Club of Sun City.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Martin; two daughters, Trudy (Mark) Brinkmann of Crystal Lake and Karin (Jim) Bouse of Evergreen Park; five grandchildren, Matthew and Eric Brinkmann, and Veronica, Maggie and Mitchel Bouse; two sisters, Clara (Frank) Link of Island Lake and Else Schmidt of Germany; one brother, Siegfried (Jayne) Schroeder of Rockford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Robert and Paul Schroeder.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 11, from 9:30 AM, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Rd. (Enter off Kreutzer Rd.) in Huntley, with Fr. Ronelo Meude, officiating. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois.
Troy R. "Ray" Fulbright
Troy R. "Ray" Fulbright, 72, of Burlington, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
He was born Nov. 11, 1928 in Parma, Mo., the son of Marshall and Marie (Rhodes) Fulbright.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Hampshire VFW Post 8043. Ray married
Marlene M. Herrmann on June 2, 1956 at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire.
Mr. Fulbright was retired from the British Petroleum Co. of St. Charles after 33 years of service. He was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the Elgin Moose.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene; sons, Steven (Kim) of Hampshire and Bill (Becky) of Wellsville, Kansas; daughters, Betty (Ron) Kusk of Hampshire and Darlene (Glen) Adams of Jasper, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Pearl Herrmann of Hampshire; and three brothers, Emery, Otis and Kenneth Fulbright.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Troy A. Fulbright on Jan. 20, 1983; two sisters, Roxie and Juanita; and a brother, Cliff.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 297 E. Jefferson St., Hampshire, the Rev. Joseph Nicolosi officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles Borromeo cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Tuesday in the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire with Rosary at 3:30 p.m.

Age 85, Sunday September 9, 2001 at Silver Cross Hospital. Late of Joliet.
Survived by four children, Edward (Sally) Hodges, Bette (Gordon) Swaback, Kenneth Hodges, Susan (James) Longmire; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; sister, Elsie Pierce; also survived by nieces and nephews.
Born in London. She was a lifelong Joliet/Elgin resident.
