Wanda Hundley
Wanda Hundley, 95, of Kissimmee, Fla., formerly of Elgin, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001 in her home.
She was a retired outpatient counselor for Elgin State Hospital and was a member of the New Burnside Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Surilda Hanks of St. Cloud, Fla. and Shirley Hundley of West Paducah, Ky.; three sons, Dion Hundley of Kissimmee, Fla., Monty Hundley of Windermere, Fla. and Charles Hundley of Kissimmee, Fla.; a sister, Vera Webster of Jacksonville, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Eugene and Luanna Lingle Cook; her husband, Winfield Hundley; a sister; and a brother.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 7, 2001 in New Burnside Baptist Church, New Burnside, Ill., the Rev. Brian James officiating. Burial was in the Wise-Robinson cemetery, New Burnside.
Memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 146 S. Friendship Rd., Paducah, Ky. 42003.

L. Winifred O'Connor
L. Winifred O'Connor, 97, of Elgin passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001 in Sherman West Court, Elgin.
She was born on June 22, 1904, the daughter of Lewis and Engelina Querhammer.
Winifred was a longtime member of the Elgin Woman's Club. She was also very active in Politics, served as a Republican Poll Judge for many years as well as serving on local and national committees. Along with her varied interest, Winifred enjoyed traveling in the United States, as well as Europe and Asia.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl B. O'Connor, whom she married on Aug. 7, 1941; and two brothers, Benjamin and Alvin Querhammer.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Algonquin cemetery, Algonquin.
Visitation will be 10 a.m., Wednesday in the funeral home.

Lela Fern Barth
Lela Fern Barth, 86, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away August 31, 2002. Born August 12, 1916 in Mable, Minnesota, she moved to Florida in June of 2002. She was a member of the Women's Guild and a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in West Dundee, Illinois.
Lela is survived by her husband, Howard; two sons, Roland Barth of Port Charlotte, FL., and Gerald Barth of South Elgin, IL.; a sister, June Oakes of Mable, MN.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and she was preceded in death by her grandson, Randy.
A Memorial Service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in West Dundee, IL., at 10:30 AM Friday, September 13, 2002. Burial will be at River Valley Memorial Gardens in W. Dundee at 11:30 AM. Luncheon will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in West Dundee, IL.

Daniel H. Hupe
Daniel H. Hupe 34, of Algonquin, formerly of Elgin, passed away Monday, September 9, 2002 in Aurora from injuries sustained in a work related accident. He was born October 2, 1967 in St. Charles, the son of Franklin and Barbara Whitaker Hupe.
He was a graduate of Burlington High School in 1986 and a graduate of the University of Illinois. He was employed by Alliance Contractors Inc. of Woodstock. He enjoyed all sports and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Anna Castoro Hupe; two children, Ryan and Justin; his father and step-mother, Franklin (Martha) Hupe of Elgin; one brother, David; three sisters, Jenny, Shauna and Sheila; step-brother, Michael (Jana) Mitzel of Waterman, IL.; and step-sister, Tamara Smith of Morris, IL.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 13, 2002 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be in Prairie cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will be held Thursday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to the Hupe Children's Education Fund.

Glenn G. Koehring
Glenn G. Koehring, 73, of South Elgin, passed away Monday, September 9, 2002 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. Glenn was born June 25, 1929 in Dundee, the son of George and Carrie Graffelman Koehring.
Glenn was a graduate Of Elgin High School and had been a longtime resident of South Elgin and was an active member of the community. He served as scout leader for Pack 44 in South Elgin, helped establish little league teams in South Elgin in the 1960's and coached for 7 years. He was a member of the South Elgin Lion's Club, serving as president in 1970-71. Glenn was a retired painter of 26 years from Local Painters Union 154, where he had served as Treasurer and he also had worked for C.E. Jakes Decorating.
Glenn was a U.S. Army veteran, where he served as Master Sergeant in the 196th field artillery in Korea from 1949-52.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Elgin.
He will always be remembered by his family, friends and anyone he met for the loving, caring person he was.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Mang Koehring; three sons, Edward (Rebecca) Koehring of Elgin, Scott (Barbara) Koehring of Elgin and Greg (Christine) Koehring of Elgin; five grandchildren, Eric, Ryan, Jennifer, Michelle and Matthew; one sister, Verna Gamble of Carpentersville; and one brother, Martin Koehring of Sandwich, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Marlin, Oland and Norman; and three sisters, Vera, Lela and Helen.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 13, 2002 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elgin with Rev. Edward Seisser officiating. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Friday from 10:30 AM until the time of Mass at the church.
Memorials may be given to the South Elgin Lions Club.

Elmer F. Mensching
Elmer F. Mensching, Loving husband of Eleanor (nee Jensen), beloved father of Donald (Karen), proud grandfather of Jonathan (Carolyn), Bethany, Peter and the late Kathryn, dear son of the late Martin and Clara Mensching, fond brother of Mabel (the late Martin) Rosenwinkel, and the late Dorothy (the late Edward) Hoppensteadt.
Served on the Itasca Fire Dept. for 28 years. Served as Itasca Fire Chief for 18 years.
Lying in state Friday, September 13, 2002 from 9:30 AM until the time of service at 10:30 AM at The Lutheran Church of St. Luke, 410 S. Rush St., Itasca, IL. Interment Elm Lawn cemetery, Elmhurst, IL. Visitation will be Thursday 3-9 PM at the Geils Funeral Home, 260 W. Irving Park Rd., Wood Dale, IL.

Richard E. Miller
Richard E. Miller, 65, of Elgin passed away Saturday, August 31, 2002 at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. He was born January 6, 1937 in Chicago, the son of Elmer and Margaret Christiansen Miller.
He had been a resident of the Elgin and Dundee area most of his life. He was employed by C.A.I. Corp. in Barrington before retiring.
Surviving are two children, Janet (Shawn) Tankersley of Barre, Mass. and Jason Miller of Elgin; two grandchildren, Shawna and Kyle; three brothers, Arvid (Cindy) Miller of Elgin, Arden (Karen) Miller of Union, IL. and David (Patricia) Miller of Grants Pass, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, September 13, 2002 at 10:00 AM at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Norman Meyer, Pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Union, officiating. Burial will be private in Acacia Park cemetery, Chicago. Visitation will be held Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Union.

Anne M. Westrand
Anne M. Westrand, 92, of Elgin passed away Monday in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born October 1, 1909 in Big Bend Twp., MN, and was the daughter of Anton and Karen (Heim) Gilbertson.
Anne had worked at the Elgin National Watch Factory for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Elgin.
Survivors include two brothers: Aliun Gilbertson of Montana and Leonard Gilbertson of North Dakota, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Melvin, Harry, Ray, and Walter Gilbertson; two sisters: Alida Budke and Sylvia Welter; and her husband, Fred Westrand.
Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.

John Paul Janicki
John Paul Janicki, 84, of Carpentersville died Tuesday at the Manor Care Rehab Center in Elgin. He was born in Cicero on November 14, 1918, the son of Anton and Mary (nee Vondracek) Janicki. Mr. Janicki was a 48 year resident of the Carpentersville area. He was a former 25 year employee of Hills McCanna in Carpentersville. He retired in 1982. He was a W.W.II Army Veteran and earned the rank of Sgt.
He was a life member of Dundee VFW #2298. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church of Carpentersville. Mr. Janicki was a volunteer for the FISH Food Pantry and the Botique Thrift Store. He was a past member of the Carpentersville Moose. He enjoyed dancing and was an avid fisherman. He also loved his little red Toyota Pick-Up truck.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Pauline (nee Berkes) Janicki, whom he married on May 2, 1959; three children, Michaeline Stewart of Alabama, Kevin (Jennifer) Janicki of Elgin and Ann Mary (John) Vessels of Carpentersville; six grandchildren, Lizabeth, Matthew, Jacob, Jess, John-John, and Debbie; one brother, Anton (Eileen) Janicki of Varna, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Evelyn Dusek.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee with prayers to St. Monica Church, Carpentersville for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Sts. Peter & Paul cemetery, Virgil. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-9 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Masses would be appreciated.

Sarah Caraker
Sarah Caraker, 91, of Elgin passed away September 4, 2004 at Alderwood Health Care, South Elgin. She was born on May 10, 1913 in Manchester, New Hampshire to Bartholomew and Sarah Dugas Lussier.
Survivors include two sons, Michael (Barbara) Caraker and Richard Caraker, both of Elgin; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be Monday at 6:00 p.m. at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin with Rev. Don Schmidt officiating. Burial will take place in Anna, IL.

Vera Swanson
Vera Swanson, 90, of the Huntley area, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2004 in her son's home in Lake in the Hills.
She was born March 18, 1914 in Genoa, the daughter of Frank and Anna (DuMoulin) Fischbach. Vera graduated in 1931 from Dundee High School. She married Harold A. Swanson on February 17, 1934 in Rockford and they farmed in the Huntley area for 30 years. She retired from Midwest Well in Huntley.
Mrs. Swanson was a member of the First Congregational Church of Huntley for nearly 50 years and a longtime member of the CELAS Women's Group. She was also a 50 year member of the McHenry Co. Home Bureau, a volunteer for the McHenry Co. Historical Society and for the Huntley Elementary School Library, and a member of the Huntley Senior Citizens. Vera loved quilting and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren cherish the quilts she lovingly made for them.
Surviving are her six sons, Charles (Beulah) Swanson of Gilberts, Richard "Dick" (Rosalie) Swanson of Lake in the Hills, Harold "Jake" (Dorthy) Swanson of Lake in the Hills, Douglas Swanson of Carpentersville, Stuart (Sharla) Swanson of Elgin, and Steven Swanson of Carpentersville; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph (Doris) Fischbach of Dundee and Elmer "Barney" (Shirley) Fischbach of Aiken, SC; and a sister, Lois Ann Egroff of Sun City, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold on March 9, 1975; a daughter, Kay Swanson on February 22, 2002; three brothers, Frank Jr. in infancy, Alvin and Floyd Fischbach; and two sisters, Erma Ream and Ione Wendt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 13, at the First Congregational Church, 11628 E. Main St., Huntley with Dr. Walter I. Thyng officiating. Burial will be in the Huntley cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley and prior to services on Monday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Pioneer Center in Woodstock or to the First Congregational Church of Huntley.

Ray R. Talbot
Ray R. Talbot, 82, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2004 in the Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. He was born on April 21, 1922 in Long Point, IL and was the son of Ernest and Grace Talbot. Ray was a Veteran and served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He had worked for over 35 years with the Montgomery Ward Co. prior to his retirement. Member of the Knoxville, TN Second Presbyterian Church. Active in the Homeless Shelter in Knoxville, TN.
Survivors include two children, Kirk (Linda) Talbot of Elgin, Ross (Sandra) Talbot of Chicago; eight grandchildren, Ross, Kevin, Kristin, Jessica, Samantha, Nathaniel, Benjamin, and Joshua; and many nieces and nephews.
preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary in 2003; two sons, Kent and Mark Talbot; a brother, Ross Talbot; and a sister, Marjorie Horn.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at 11:30 A.M. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local homeless shelter.
